Chapter 1: Intro

Kagome felt like her heart was about to break apart. She tried as best as she could to keep her sobs from escaping her lips but it was no use, she couldn't help but let her tears fall. She didn't know what to do now, so Kagome just lowered her head letting her bangs cover her eyes. Tears quietly slid down her cheeks.

They had always been there for each other; all four of them, as long as she could remember. Kagome had known Sango since pre-school; she had been her first friend ever. Then they met Miroku in 1st grade and Inuyasha in 3rd; ever since then they had always been with each other. They had shared so many great moments, sad ones and happy ones. But now what? The foursome becoming a threesome? How would that work out? How could she stand not seeing him ever again?

“Plea….please tell me you're kidding. This can't be happening,” the words slipped from her lips.

Suddenly she was pulled into a warm embrace. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and berried her face in his chest. They had said nothing would come between them, so this would be the same, right?

“I promise you, if there was anything I could do I would do it Kagome,” Inuyasha said as he held her in his arms.

“But there has to be…..” She started but was cut off.

“I've done everything in my power. I even asked if I could stay with Miroku, but they won't hear of it. They……..they don't want to split the family apart,” Inuyasha spat out angrily.

Kagome laughed a little at this, “Well I can understand that. Why would your parents want to lose a son as great as you?”

There was a moment's pause but then Kagome continued.

“I guess I just never thought any of us would end up moving. I thought we'd always have each other. Silly me right?” Kagome looked down at her feet letting a few tears hit the ground.

“Hey don't say that,” Inuyasha whispered as he hooked one of his fingers under Kagome's chin and made her look at him then while wiping away the tears he added, “And stop crying, you shouldn't waste your tears on me.”

“Don't be stupid,” Kagome said a little angrily as she pushed away,” Why WOULDN'T I cry Inuyasha? I mean…..I mean you're moving to Tokyo, I might never see you again.”

She slowly start to move away from Inuyasha, heading towards the side of the hill they had been standing on. It was their place. The place Kagome and Inuyasha had first truly met, the place he had finally asked her out, the place he had first kissed her, and now……….the place where they were saying their good-byes. Kagome sat down on the side of the grassy hill that was over looked by a large tree and just stared at the ground. Inuyasha came and sat down by her.

“I bet Miroku and Sango didn't give you such a hard time when you told them about moving to Toyko,” Kagome laughed sadly.

“Maybe, but they don't care for me as much as you do. They won't ever miss me as much as you'll miss me,” Inuyasha smiled sadly.

“Well, I have a feeling this might turn out ok. I mean we can write each other and e-mail. I could even call you sometimes, and you can call me,” Kagome tried to sound kinda happy.

A very sad look took over Inuyasha's beautiful amber eyes. He slowly looked away from Kagome, afraid to look her in the eyes. A frown spread across Kagome's face. She now knew something was truly wrong, maybe even worst then Inuyasha moving to Tokyo.

“Inuyasha? Wha……what is it?” she asked quietly as a few tears returned to her eyes.

Inuyasha didn't answer; he just kept on looking the other way. He knew this part was going to come up soon, but he hadn't hoped THIS soon.

Kagome moved in front of him, her hands on his knees as she cried, “Inuyasha? What's wrong?

“I……..I don't think we can do that Kags,” his voice getting shaky.

“What do you mean? What can't we do?” asked Kagome confused

“The writing and e-mailing and……and calling,” Inuyasha answered softly.

“Why not?!” Kagome said getting even more confused.

“Damn it Kagome! I don't want to be one of those couples who write each other and then the calls and crap happen less and less and then they end up not e-mailing or calling at all,” Inuyasha shouted.

“Inuyasha! You know I don't like it when you curse………..wait, so you don't want to talk once you move,” Kagome looked Inuyasha straight in the eyes, “What are you saying? You….you want to break up?”

“Listen to me,” said Inuyasha and he leaned forward and held her shoulders tightly, “I love you more then anything else in this world Kagome. But….but a long distance relationship isn't going to work out.”

“………….Are you sure?” Kagome asked with new tears forming in her eyes.

“I am, but you have to know I love you with all my heart,” He whispered.

“I love you too,” She replied as the tears started to fall.

“I………I should get home. But before I go can I have…….one last kiss?” Kagome said in her most quiet voice ever.

Inuyasha helped Kagome to her feet. They both stared into each other's eyes for a moment before their lips met. Inuyasha's hands wrapped around Kagome small waist and pulled her in as close as she could get to him. In return Kagome's hands snaked around Inuyasha's neck. At that moment Kagome wished that time could just stop, that she could be here with Inuyasha forever. But sadly the kiss didn't last nearly long enough. The two parted and once again they stared into each other's eyes.

Finally Kagome broke away and looked down at the ground. While turning and walking away Kagome said, “Good-bye Inuyasha Takahashi.”

Kagome woke up panting. It had been 3 years since that day and it never left her mind. Miroku and Sango had gone to say good-bye to Inuyasha that next morning but Kagome stayed home, too afraid to see Inuyasha after that day they broke up. But since they had lived right across from each other Kagome had watched out the window from her room. Every once in a while that day would come back to her in a dream, and she couldn't take it any more.

“DAMN DREAMS,” she shouted as she rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed.

Kagome looked over at her alarm clock to see that it was 11:00AM. After letting out a long sigh she got out of bed and slowly walked into her closet. She shifted through her hanging clothes before picking out a dark blue tank-top that had white words printed on it that said: Could You Just Kiss My Ass And Get On With Your Damn Life! Then Kagome walked to her dresser and pulled out some lose, black pants that rested right on her hips.

She left her room and made her way down the hall, down the stairs, towards the kitchen. Once Kagome reached her destination she sat down at the table and placed her head down on it. A few minutes later she heard footsteps coming in the room and she looked up to find her mom walking towards the coffee machine.

“Mornin',” Kagome grumbled.

“Morning Dear, how did you sleep?” Her mother asked.

“Crappy…..again,” Kagome answered with a moan.

“Well I got something that might cheer you up,” Mrs. Higurashi smiled widely.

Kagome's ears perked up a little, “Yeah? What is it mom?”

“Weeeeellllll,” Her mom started as she pulled an envelope out from behind her back. Waving it around in the air Mrs. Higurashi ran over to Kagome and threw the envelope down on the table.

“Ok mom, you're gonna have to tell me what this is before I start to think that you're just going insane,” said Kagome as her eyes wondered between the white envelope and her crazy, excited mom who was still jumping around.

“See this came yesterday but you were out with Sango and Miroku all day and came home after I was asleep so I didn't get to tell you. Now I don't know if it's good or bad but I'm still soooooooo excited!!!!” Kagome's mom said with a smile but once she still saw a confused look on her daughter's face she added, “Kagome?!?!?!? It's your letter from Kyoto University!!!”

Kagome's eyes shot out of her head as a huge smile danced its way across her face. She had been waiting for this letter for weeks! Miroku and Sango had applied to Kyoto University too; it had been their dream since they were little to go to the same college. Kyoto had a really great college nearby, about 45 minutes away, so they figure why the hell not?! Besides it had an awesome art program that Kagome wanted to get into. Art wasn't going to be her major but she really liked it. Inuyasha had gottan her into it when they were in Middle School, he had been a major art fan.

“So what are you waiting for?! Go find Miroku and Sango so you can open your guys' envelopes together. You know the promise you made each other,” Mrs. Higurashi scolded her daughter.

“Thanks mom,” Kagome giggled before ripping the envelope off the table and rushing upstairs to grab her cell phone.

Once the phone was in her possession Kagome raced down stairs passing her little brother Souta who was 14 years old. She reached the door right as she heard her brother shouted, “God Kagome, can you go any faster?”

“I can sure as Hell try,” Kagome laughed before shutting the front door.

As she made her way to her Silver Lexus Convertible Kagome dialed Sango's number and as the phone started to ring she waited. One ring………Two rings.

“Come on Sango pick up the freaken phone,” Kagome mumbled as she entered her car.

Four rings…………

“Mushi, mushi” A voice finally answered on the other line.

“There you are. Hey listen did you get it?!?” Kagome asked.

“…..…..NO, did you?!” Sango shouted.

“Duh…….Well did you check the mail box,” Kagome rolled her eyes.

“Oh, hehehe no. I'll do that right now. Hold on,” Sango giggled.

There was a moment of silence when Kagome only heard the sound of pounding feet meaning Sango was running to the mailbox. Then the running stopped and Kagome heard the high creaking noise of the mailbox opening. `Miroku still needs to fix that mail box for them,' Kagome laughed to herself as she waited.

“YAY. I have it,' Sango yelled excitedly.

“Well then call Miroku, tell him to get his lazy ass out of bed and we'll meet at your house. I'm already on my way over,” Kagome told Sango as she started the engine of her car.

“Ok, see ya in a few minutes Kags,” Sango replied before hanging up the phone.

Kagome slowly backed out of the driveway while putting the top down on her car. She would have to drive a little slow to give Miroku time to wake up and head over to Sango's. They actually all lived pretty close to each other. Kagome had only a 3 minutes drive from her house to Sango's or Miroku's. Miroku and Sango lived right down the streets from each other, 5 houses in between them. When Inuyasha had lived in Kyoto he had lived right across the streets from Kagome so they would always walk home together. And when they were younger all four of them would go to Inuyasha's house and bug the Hell out of Inuyasha's older half-brother Sesshomaru.

`Damn it Kags!! Stop thinking about the past,' Kagome shouted to herself as she turned left at the corner leaving Tsuji Way and turned onto Biroudo Dr. After about another minute of driving Kagome took a right onto Kurokawa, Sango's and Miroku's street. Finally she pulled into the driveway of a one-story light blue house that had a dark gray colored roof.

Just as Kagome exited her vehicle she heard footsteps behind her and then a voice rang out, “Why is a beautiful lady such as yourself doing outside all alone on a glorious morning like this?”

“Morning to you too, Miroku,” Kagome laughed as she turned around to greet one of her best friends.

Miroku had kinda long black hair that was pulled back into a small ponytail that barely touched the back of his neck. He was wearing cream-colored shorts that bagged down a little past his knees and a black shirt that had the words “Do You Believe In Love At First Sight, Or Should I Walk By Again?” printed on it. When Kagome saw the shirt she started to crack up.

“Miroku, you know only girls buy shirts that say that kinda stuff on it,” Kagome said through her fits of giggles.

“Well my dear Kagome when I thought about it made no sense that a guy like me, who all the ladies fall for, didn't have a shirt like this so I went and got it specially made,” Miroku explained with a charming smile on his face.

“Oh yeah ALL the girls just love you,” Kagome rolled her eyes.

Miroku just shook his head and walked passed Kagome who followed him to the front door. Without knocking, both entered the house with smiles on their faces. Their families had always gottan along and ended up being just as great as friends as Kagome, Miroku, and Sango were. Each of their parents had even made a rule that whenever they came over to just walk in the door. Kinda strange but it made sense since the three were basically always together and were practically family. So it would have been weird for them to knock on the door.

“Sango we're here!!! Were are you?” Miroku shouted as Kagome closed the door behind her.

“Oh hey guys!” They heard Sango say as they watched her walk down the hall towards them.

Sango had long dark brown hair that almost looked black, it was up in a high ponytail. She was wearing a light pink, short sleeve shirt on that had the number 48 on it and black hip huggers. As she reached where they were standing she smiled at Miroku and Kagome.

“Ok well, let's get this over with so we can celebrate like Hell!!” Kagome sang as the three of them got into a circle.

They all pulled out the white envelopes that would determine their futures and placed one hand at the edge getting ready to rip it open.

“One,” Sango started.

“Two,” Miroku whispered with excitement in his voice.

“THREE,” Kagome bellowed as all three of them ripped the white papers apart trying to get to the letters that were inside.

It was silent for a moment as they all stared at their own letters reading what had been written on the papers. Kagome looked down at her paper and read:

Kagome looked up from her letter and saw Sango looking right back at her. A huge smile appeared on both of their face as they jumped up in down in each other arms and shouted, “WE GOT IN,” over and over again. Kagome grabbed both Sango's and Miroku's hands and dragged them outside. Once out there Sango and Kagome continued their celebrating by doing cart-wheels.

After about a minute of shouting and yaying Sango and Kagome both looked over at Miroku and said at the same time, “Why aren't you celebrating?!”

“I….I didn't get in guys,” Miroku said with his head down.

“WHAT!?!?” Sango bellowed.

“Oh don't worry Miroku, we'll apply to a different college then. We said we'd all go together and that's what………..” Kagome started before she was cut off by Miroku.

“SIKE!!!!!” He laughed at the top of his lugs.

Kagome and Sango looked at each other for a second then at Miroku. With an evil smirk on both of their faces they ran forward and tackled Miroku to the ground.

“You jerk, I thought you were serious,” Sango giggled as they all rolled down the grass in one big huddle.

“Yes but it was funny,” Miroku said as they slowly started to stop.

“Ya I'll hand you that, it was pretty funny,” Kagome sighed as she looked up into the blue sky.

“So…………..what'd you guys say. Go celebrate? I mean we probably need to start packing but we have two freak'n weeks for that,” Sango said while looking over at her two best friends.

“Yeah, let's go get ice cream, then go see a movie and throw popcorn at people,” laughed Kagome.

“I don't know Kagome……..ice cream in the morning?” Miroku asked while laughing.

“Damn straight,” Kagome smiled as she got to her feet.

“Sounds good to me, but I call taking Kagome's car………and I call shot gun!!!!” Sango said as she got up and ran to Kagome's convertible.

“Damn it, I wanted the front set,” whined Miroku..

“Maybe next time Miroku, now get in,” Sango giggled as she sat down.
