~~Chapter 7: Sinister Deeds~~

“Kagome, I hope you enjoyed dinner.” Hojo have her a small smile before dropping the crumpled napkin on his plate. Suki was poking her food around. Hojo turned his attention to his mother. “Mother, eat your dinner. You are getting thinner and that can't be very healthy.”

Suki nodded weakly. “Yes, I did enjoy it. Thank you, Hojo…Suki-san.” Kagome gave Suki a radiant smile. `Yes, yes, thank you very much, stomach's full. Now, can we get up and go?'

`Shush!' Kagome grimaced when she felt her stomach tie in knots. `Ow.'

`See? I even hate Hojo's food.'

A sudden honk outside made Hojo stand up and grasp his mother's arm. “Come Mother, Uncle is outside. He is going to take you out tonight.”

Suki's eyes light up slightly, letting Hojo escort her outside. “Th-Thank you son.”

“Not a worry, Mother.” He leaned down and planted a kiss on her cheek, watching as his mother left with his uncle. `Yeah, get Mother out of the way.'

Kagome restrained the urge to throw up on the table. Her stomach was turning upside down inside of her. `Oh Kami…what's wrong with me?'

`Bet your stomach is kickin' you because it doesn't like Hojo either.'

`Ow! Oh, bathroom, bathroom, bathroom!'

Kagome pushed herself back and attempted to run for the bathroom. She didn't even take one step before she fell forward. “Ahh!” She yelped as she managed to land on her hands, not hurting herself much, but it did hurt when her entire upper body weight landed on her slender wrists. She blinked in confusion.

`What's wrong?'

Kagome turned to sit on her rear. Her eyes widened as she stared down on herself. `A-Ants…'

`Ants? Where?'

`O-On my legs! It feels like ants are on my legs!'

`Wha--? Oh, wait, what's with this? Why do your legs feel funny?'

`I don't know, I don't know…it feels like after you sit on them for a long time and then try to stand up, it tickles…followed by---'

`---Numbing'

Kagome smacked her bare thigh, the lowest she could reach with her green uniform skirt on. `I-I didn't feel that…m-my legs are numb…'

`Numb? Oh, Oh! Kagome…I think I know what's been kickin' your stomach.'

`Huh?'

The voice gasped. `Yeah. The food, the food Kagome! It had something in it, made your legs numb.'

`Oh no.' Kagome grimaced as she attempted to get on her hands and knees. Getting on her hands was easy enough, getting on her knees, though, that was the hard part.

`Come on, Kags! Before Hojo comes back from taking his mother to the car!'

She saw the bathroom door, struggled to drag her lower body with her. `How I wish I had upper body strength…'

`Come on! Move, Kagome! Move'

`I'm trying!' Kagome felt the tears prick the corner of her eyes. She groaned softly. She was almost to the bathroom. If she could get it, she could lock herself in and wait until the effect of her numbing wore off. Then she could at least stand up to Hojo. `You were right! You were right! This was a mistake!'

`Shh! Don't beat yourself up right now…concentrate on getting to that door.'

She didn't feel a hand wrap around her ankle, but she did feel when someone tugged on her, dragging her back across the wooden floor. Her shirt rose up, her stomach burned against the friction skin and wood were creating. She looked over her shoulder.

“H-Hojo…” The look in his hazel eyes made her shiver, tremble with sudden fear.

“What are you doing on the floor, Kagome?” He asked casually enough, crossing his arms over his chest.

`You should know!' “I-I…Hojo, what did you do to me?”

“Me?” He echoed, acting surprised at her question. “I didn't do anything to you, Kagome. You, however, did do something to me.”

Kagome scowled up at him, irritation shinning in her brown eyes. Hojo snorted. “I didn't do anything to you!”

He laughed, bending down, knees spread in front of her. “Oh? Really? Are you sure Kagome?”

Kagome frowned, balling her hands in to fists. “I didn't do anything! What's wrong with you?”

Before she realized what had happened, she felt a burning sensation on her cheek as her head jerked to the side. `Oh, no he didn't…'

But he did…

Kagome blinked, mouth dropping open. She gritted her teeth, winced as the pain erupted in the wake of Hojo's strike. She gawked at him incredulously. “Wh-What's wrong with you?” She screamed. He reached out, grabbed her hair and pulled her forward hard. She gasped.

“Tell me Kagome, you didn't do anything to me?”

She hiccupped, tears pricking her eyes. “N-No!”

No?” He raised his hand again, brought it down on her right cheek. She groaned softly when he pulled her hair again. “So you didn't let Morikami kiss you? You didn't kiss him back? You didn't let him have his tongue down your throat?”

`Oh shit…' Kagome grimaced. Hojo tugged on her hair again, shook her roughly. Kagome yelped, squeezed her eyes closed. “Answer me!”

“I-I…N-N---”

Hojo grunted. “Don't deny it! I saw you! I saw you! How dare you do that to me! I've been with you for years, how could you cheat on me, Kagome? I thought I knew you.”

Kagome bit her lip. `Watch, once this numbing wears off…his ass is grass.'

`Now is not the time. He's really mad!'

He glared at her, caught her arms and held them tightly against her sides. His nose almost touched hers. “You have any idea what I'm going to do to you?”

“H-Hojo…I---”

“Shut up!” He hollered at her. She gasped, eyebrows drawing together. “Kagome, I wanted you to be the mother of my children. You know that, you know that I loved you. However, under the given circumstances, you don't deserve to live.”

What?”

Hojo snorted. “You heard me. For you infidelity, I'm going to kill you.”

Kagome gulped, her heart sank. “Y-You can't do that…”

“Wanna bet?”

He fisted his hand, drew it back before it connected with her cheek. Kagome moaned loudly when he released his grasp on her, letting her already sitting body fall back completely. Her head hit the hard wood floor roughly. The world spun around her. She felt dizzy. `Concentrate…it's the effect of whatever Hojo put in your food.'

`I can't…Kami, I'm going to puke.'

`Hold on! Seriously, if you get knocked out, he can kill us easily!'

`H-Help me…'

Kagome let her tears fall down her cheeks when she felt his shoe pierce her side. The force of his kick made her stomach jump again, made the bile in her throat rise again. The shooting pain that ran down her side was almost unbearable and when he landed a second blow, Kagome couldn't hold in the scream she let out.

“Would you ever cheat on me again if I let you live?”

Kagome sobbed, squeezing her eyes closed. Her legs were still useless. Her shoulders shook. He leaned down towards her. She gasped. He took her chin in his hands. `Your hands! They're still useful'

His lips came dangerously close to hers. Before she could think about her actions, Kagome raised her hand, brought her nails down against his face, dragging down its length. Bloody red welts were left in the wake of her nails and Hojo stared at her.

“I can't believe you still have the nerve to strike me.” He hissed, landing another blow on her face. She gulped, tried to hold her cries in. If she cried more, he'd hit harder.

`Oh Kami, I can't hold it in!'

The bile in her throat rose higher. Her heart thumped against her chest, her blood rushed in her veins. Hojo was standing up again, grabbing her arms and lifting her up in the process. He dragged her until she was by a small wooden table before pushing her back. Not feeling her legs, she fell back against the table, against the wall. The point of it dug in to her back, ushered a painful cry from the depths of her.

`H-Help me…please.'

`Hold on Kagome! Hold on, I'll help you…'

`Pl-Please…'

`I will. I will…'

Hojo was smiling down on her, not striking her…yet. `Just hold on to your consciousness. I'll get you help.'

`H-How?'

It hurt to breath, her body hurt. `I'll call on him…'

`Oh who?'

`On his aura…on his soul.'

`On who's?'

`Lean to the side'

Doing as she was told, Kagome leaned her upper body to the side, avoiding Hojo's fist. That didn't stop his other hand from slapping her already bruised face.

`M-Mate…hurts…sh-she cries, she's calling for us…'

Not quite hearing the voice in his head, InuYasha groaned as he buried his face deeper in to his pillow, dragging another one over his head. `L-Leave me alone! I've go work tomorrow!'

Half asleep, the hanyou didn't grasp what the voice was trying to tell him. `Listen…'

`To what?'

`To your blood'

`M-My blood?'

`Yeah, listen hard…it's trying to tell you something.'

`Feh!' InuYasha sighed and sat up, letting his sheets pool around half of his waist. He rubbed the sleepiness from his eyes and looked at his clock `What can it possibly say when it's quarter-to-midnight?'

`Listen you baka!'

He twitched his ear, trying to listen to his youkai blood. `M-Mate…hurts…sh-she cries, she's calling for us…pain…m-make it stop.'

Golden eyes snapping wide, his youkai had his full attention. `Wh-What?'

`M-Mate hurts…pain…she cries…she hurts…'

`K-Kagome?'

`She hurts…pain…soothe her. M-Make is stop!'

`Fuck…' He blinked quickly before rolling out of his bed. He grabbed his cell phone, dialed Kagome's number. After three tries and no answer, he tossed the phone on the bed and grabbed his jeans and shirt. Dragging them on as quickly as possible, he put his shoes on, grabbed his phone again and sped out of his house, jumping over the golden gates.

`Sh-She hurts! Make it stop…Make it stop!'

Jumping through the forest, his aim was the Higurashi Shrine. His cell phone vibrated against his pocket and he dug it out and put it against where his ears were supposed to be, had he been human. “What?”

“Hello? This number called here three times---”

`Kagome's mother!' “Yeah. I-Is Kagome there?”

Mrs. Higurashi sighed. “I'm afraid not, dear. She said she had to go out for a little while with her friends. She said she'd call when she wanted me to pick her up. She might stay the night at Ayumi's house.”

`No! She's hurting…she's in pain!'

`Don't worry her mother. Find Kagome, help her, and then we can tell her mother.' “Did she say where she was going to be?”

“I didn't hear her very well. I believe she said either Hojo's house or one of her three friends.”

“Okay.” He closed his phone and put it back in his pocket. `Fuck! Where do they live?'

`We'll never find her by ourselves! Call the bastard…or Kouga. His pups can help.'

`Kouga? Yeah…I need to find Kagome.'

`Make it stop!' His youkai blood pounded against him, against his soul. He grimaced.

`I'll find you Kagome! Just…Just hold on.'

Kouga couldn't believe what he was hearing. The last time InuYasha Morikami asked anyone for help was nearly two centuries ago and that was when he asked Kouga to hunt down Shiori for Shippo was dying without her. Kouga blinked.

“Lost Kagome? Or did she run away?”

“Feh! Don't be stupid! Something's wrong with her, I can feel it.” InuYasha crossed his arms over his chest. “Now, get moving! I need to find her!”

Ayame pinched her eldest son's arm. “You heard him! Go help your uncle find Kagome. You've all seen her, you all know what she smells like.”

The three boys and their younger sister stood up. Kouga kissed Ayame softly. “Be careful, and Akina shouldn't go either.”

Akina---most commonly known as `Aki'---pulled InuYasha out the door. “Come on, Uncle, I know where Hojo lives!”

The six of them left Kouga's house and jumped on the roof tops. “He lives a little far from everyone else. Come on! And to be sure, sniff around everywhere just in case Kagome's around Tokyo and not at Hojo's house.”

Her three brothers jumped down on to the ground, running at a speed the human eye couldn't see. The oldest, Raidon, veered to the left. His twin, Kiyoshi, stayed in the middle of the path they were taking. The youngest, Kin, went to the right. Raidon and Kiyoshi looked exactly like their father, the only difference was they inherited crests from their mother. Raidon had two back-to-back white crescent moons on his forehead. Kiyoshi had the same crests only his were sky-blue. Kin had red hair, like their mother and her green eyes. He had what looked like three bracelets wrapped around his upper arms. His crests were black. Akina---Aki for short---looked like their mother also. Only her crests weren't visible when she wore her clothing.

“There! Hojo lives there!” Aki hollered.

“Come on,” InuYasha muttered as he leapt on to the house's roof top.

She didn't know how long she was in his dinning room. All she knew was the pain she was feeling. Hojo tied her hands together with rope, hands in front of her stomach. She had her head back against the wall, trying to keep her eyes open. The numbing had wore of a while ago, but before Hojo had tied her ankles with the rope. Kagome moaned softly. Her head pounded in her ears.

`Just a little longer…K'gome.'

She knew the voice was helping her. She could feel something pulse inside of her, feed her small amounts of energy, enough to keep her awake. `I-I can't…b-breathe…'

`Just hold on. Just a little longer…please…K'gome.'

She tried to open her eyes, watched Hojo stuff his cell phone in his pocket. After she had scratched him, he kept hitting her until he was tired. Kagome didn't understand how she was still alive. “Come on Kagome, you won't last much longer.”

She whimpered weakly. She couldn't move her left arm; she was pretty sure it was broken. Everything hurt, everything was pained. Hojo hunkered down besides her, placed one arm under her knees and the other around her torso. He grunted as he lifted her limp form against him. He kicked the front door open, walked down the small porch stairs and out in to the street. She whimpered.

“Kagome, I hope you learned your lesson. Perhaps your next life will subconsciously remember to be obedient.” He kissed her lips, a little bit of her blood smudging on him.

“P-Please…” Kagome moaned softly. He walked about two blocks before he went in to a deep alley. He sighed before kneeling down and unceremoniously dumping her on the ground on her rear. Kagome bit her bottom lip to keep the scream in. She didn't have the energy to scream.

“It's okay Kagome. Think of it this way, you're not dying alone, you're dying with a lesson at hand.” He leaned over, glared at her before roughly kissing her. “For the record, I will never forget you.”

`J-Just a little more…a little more.' The voice whispered.

`I-I don't have the energy. S-Sleep…so tired…sl-sleep.'

`If you sleep now, Miko, you will not rise again. Not even your mate will be able to rise you.'

Kagome frowned. `Wh-What?'

`I don't know. It wasn't me though. Listen to her though, don't sleep! Kagome, don't sleep!'

Hojo stood up and huffed. `That was easy enough. Maybe she would've put up more of a fight if most of her body wasn't numb.'

He snickered to himself before glancing at Kagome. The girl was fighting for her breath, fighting to stay alive. He didn't realize one girl could posses such a thirst for life, to live even when she obviously was so weakened.

A sudden low rumble sounded behind him. He blinked in confusion before turning around. His hazel eyes widened at the sight before him. It was to dark to see who exactly it was, but it scared him. Blood red eyes stared back at him; Red eyes with blue pupils. The growl intensified, more savage. More shadows stood behind the one of the red eyes.

A snarl; another growl and the eyes flickered towards the fallen girl.

“You bastard.”

`Kill him! Kill him! Kill him for hurting your mate…kill him for having the balls to hurt one hair on her head.'

`Yes.'

`Now, kill him!'

InuYasha shot forward, used his forearm to slam it against Hojo's neck. The boy grunted when his body collided with the brick wall. Under the light of the full moon, could he see who had him against the wall. Not enough to choke him, but enough to keep him there. Silver hair, shagged violet streaks on his cheek. He cracked his knuckles.

“M-Morikami…”

He growled, showing him his large fangs. Hojo frowned. He saw dog ears on his head, claws, fangs, red eyes. `Wh-What is he?'

“You have any idea what you've done?” InuYasha growled. He wanted to make Hojo's death slow and painful. “Do you have any idea what I am?”

Akina grimaced. She didn't know if her `uncle' would attack her if she came close to Kagome. “Father, we have to get Kagome out of here.”

Kouga nodded. He grabbed Akina's hand. “Raidon, if InuYasha doesn't recognize us, run. I can deal with him.”

His eldest son frowned, but nodded. He would not disobey his father. Very slowly, the wolf advanced towards Kagome. Immediately, InuYasha's eyes landed on them.

Akina gasped. “U-Uncle InuYasha, please…we have to get Kagome out of here and to Shiori.”

Kouga kept his daughter behind him. Akina peeked around her father. InuYasha's eyes flickered to Kagome, lifted his nose to sniff.

“Only Aki.” He rumbled dangerously. Kouga nodded, let his daughter pass by InuYasha and towards Kagome. Akina---Aki for short---made a dash towards Kagome. Using her claws, she sliced the ropes around her hands and feet. Brown eyes opened slightly. Kagome whimpered when her hands were free. Very carefully, Aki lifted her, using her youkai strength. Kagome groaned.

InuYasha dumped Hojo on the ground, whirled around. Akina gasped. “Don't hurt her, Aki!” He bellowed. She gulped. She didn't want to anger InuYasha more in his youkai state.

“I-I'm sorry Uncle InuYasha. I-I…she's hurt, it's going to hurt to move her around. I-I'll be gentler.”

He grunted in response before grabbing Hojo again who was trying to crawl away. “Morikami, think you can hurt me?”

InuYasha snarled. “I'm going to kill you for hurting my mate.”

Hojo frowned. “You'll go to jail.”

“Feh! They'll never suspect me you fucking vermin.” His claws wrapped around his neck. “Take her and fix her! I'll be there momentarily.”

Kouga nodded and took Kagome from his daughter. “Kiyoshi, stay with him. Sesshoumaru won't go against InuYasha's actions. Just stay with him though and make sure he doesn't go crazy.”

Kouga's son nodded as the rest of them leapt towards Shippo and Shiori's house. Shiori, after all, was a doctor for youkai children and supernatural emergencies. She would know how to help a miko like Kagome. Kiyoshi grimaced when InuYasha dug his claws in to Hojo's arm.

“You have made one very big mistake that will cost you your life.” InuYasha growled. “Kagome is my chosen mate. When another hurts a youkai's mate, revenge is something we cannot defy. You hurt Kagome, I kill you for what you've done.”

Kiyoshi squeezed his eyes closed when his uncle let his claws dig in to Hojo. He bit his lip, trying to drown out the sounds. He heard the dull thump when InuYasha let Hojo drop to the floor. He heard foot steps as InuYasha neared him. Snapping his eyes opened, he saw InuYasha looking at the blood on his claws. The smell of death was thick in the air, around them. Kiyoshi offered the water bottle to InuYasha. The hanyou grabbed it, opened it and used it to clean his claws. As he was cleaning, they shrunk back to normal size. The golden hue returned to his eyes, his fangs shortened.

“Uncle---”

“---I'm not related to that mangy wolf---” InuYasha couldn't help but mutter.

“---I'm glad you are okay. Come, they've taken Kagome to Shippo's house. I'm sure Shiori will take excellent care of her.”

InuYasha dropped the water bottle in the garbage can again. “Kiyoshi…”

Kiyoshi stopped, turned back to InuYasha. “Yes?”

“Call Sesshoumaru. Tell him and have him send his youkai workers clean this up.”

Kiyoshi nodded. “I can do that.”

“Good.” InuYasha sighed and grimaced. “Come on.”

`Now that Hojo is no longer a threat to our mate, go and soothe her.'

`I got here to late! I should've been here sooner.'

`It wasn't your fault. Shiori will take care of Kagome.'

`I know that…I also know that I failed to protect her.'

`You didn't. You saved her. Hojo would've killed her had you not followed their scent from his house.'

The run to Shippo's house was quick. Not bothering to say anything, InuYasha went directly to Kagome. Lying down, she was bandaged up. Her broken arm was bandaged up also. He fell to his knees besides her, smoothed her hair softly.

The tears that pricked his eyes were hard to hold back. “K-Kagome…”

“Her miko blood saved her,” Shiori put a cool hand-towel on Kagome's forehead. InuYasha looked up at the bat-hanyou. She gave him a sad smile. “It did. Her blood kept her alive because it knows you, it knew you would come for her. Her mind forgot, InuYasha, her blood hasn't. Her miko knows everything, it knows who her mate is. Had Hojo been youkai, her miko would've purified him.”

InuYasha took in the information. A human couldn't be purified. He sighed, getting up and going in to the bathroom. After a thorough wash of his hands, his claws, he went back in to the room and laid besides her.

Kouga gave him a curt nod. “I'll have your best take over your projects until you come back to work.” With that, he turned around. “Take care of Kagome, mutt-face. Make her feel better and don't leave her alone.” He tossed over his shoulder.

Raidon, Kiyoshi, and Kin followed their father out of the room. Shippo sighed and leaned down to kiss Kagome's cheek softly, now clean of any blood she had. He followed Kouga and his sons out of the bedroom.

“It's okay now, InuYasha. Stay here tonight, you can take her home tomorrow or whenever you think she's ready to go home with you. I'll give you pain killers for her.”

“Thank you, Shiori.”

Shiori smiled softly before following her mate to their bedroom. Akina played with the hem of her tee-shirt, her sapphire eyes looking at InuYasha. He sighed. “I'm sorry I yelled at you, Aki.”

“It's okay, Uncle, I know you were only worried about her.” She leaned down and kissed his cheek. “I'll come to check on her tomorrow after class, okay? Also, I'll tell her mother and give her your cell phone number.”

He grabbed her hand. “Aki?” She looked at him. “Thanks pup.”

She grinned. Kouga poked his head back in to the room. “Oi, Akina, we're leaving.”

“Okay, father.” Akina sighed and hurried after her father.

Once the door closed, InuYasha nuzzled Kagome's neck. `My mate…Kagome…I'm so sorry.'

He loosely wrapped his arms around her, making sure not to pressure any bruises. `After you're okay…I promise I'll make you happy again. Make your days beautiful, what we've missed for the last five-hundred years.'

Shiori had changed Kagome's clothing, putting on pajamas. InuYasha kicked off his shoes before holding Kagome against him. A rumble spilled from his chest.

`Soothe her…soothe our mate.'

`Yes.'

He closed his eyes, hardly noticed when Kagome inched closer, her ear against his chest. She frowned, barely opening her eyes.

`I-I told you…we'd be saved.'

`Yes…'

`Sleep now, K'gome…sleep.'

`O-Okay.'

She was lulled to sleep by the sound of the rumble coming from besides her.
