~~Chapter 34: Decisions~~
“Are you ready, wench?”
Kagome hurriedly put on her diamond earrings before turning around to frown at the hanyou who was lounging on the doorway of his bedroom. “Yeah, I'm ready.”
He strolled over to her and let his eyes roam over her. He wrinkled his nose. Kagome opened her mouth to say something, but he laughed. “You look beautiful, Kagome.”
She blushed, but grinned. “You don't look that bad yourself, dog-boy.”
He grabbed her hand and led her away. She did look beautiful. She had curled her hair and completely picked it up, leaving only a few strands to give her a flirty yet sophisticated book. She wore a long teal dress, a shade that glistened in the light with the tiny splash of sparkles around it. The dress was simple, but the cut was beautiful and the way Kagome wore it made it look even more amazing.
And the way InuYasha held himself in these kinds of gatherings always surprised her. Where had the hanyou she had once known gone? `I think this InuYasha is much more in tune with everything.'
`How would you know? You've blocked out thoughts and memories of the past so much, they haven't bothered you in the least for the past like…six years.'
Kagome sighed. `Maybe so.'
`And maybe it might be time to unlock those memories and allow yourself to know exactly how you fell in love with InuYasha the first time.'
`…Maybe.'
She didn't have to think too much because a small tap on her shoulder made Kagome turn around. Brown eyes stared back at her with happiness that the woman couldn't hide. “Kagome!”
She blinked once. Twice. “A-Ayumi?”
Ayumi launched herself in to Kagome's arms, hugging her old friend tightly. “Kami, I haven't seen you in forever! What happened to you?”
Kagome grinned and hugged Ayumi back. “I went on a scholarship to New York City. I just came back a few weeks ago.”
Ayumi's brilliant smile took over her features. “I thought I might find you in one of these. Are you Mrs. Morikami now?”
Kagome shook her head. “Fiancé.” She replied, wiggling her eyebrows. Ayumi giggled before smoothing out her navy blue dress.
“What are you doing here?”
Ayumi looked at Kagome, grabbed a cup of champagne from a tray that a waiter carried across Sesshoumaru's ballroom. “I'm the girlfriend of Yukio Niojin, his father is one of Inutaishou-san's biggest customers and partners.”
“Really…”
Ayumi nodded. “Yep! I'm so happy Kagome, he's the best.” She placed a gentle hand over Kagome's. Ayumi hadn't changed much. Her hair had gotten longer, missing her waistline by almost an inch. It was straightened and a tiny clip picked up some hair on her left side and let it gracefully fall. But her face, it had barely changed. She looked around.
“Did you ever hear from Yuka or Eri?”
Kagome shook her head. “I still talk to them and they miss you to, Kagome.”
Kagome grimaced. “I'm sorry I ran away.”
“None sense, you're still our best friend…” Ayumi said with a smile. She took a sip from the champagne. “Anyway, Yuka had a baby like a week before her twentieth birthday. She got married with the guy and they're still together, another little one on the way. And Eri? That woman is in medical school and she's still single. She says she doesn't want a man yet and honestly, I think she was the smartest one.”
Kagome laughed. “Wow, Ayumi, give me their numbers and I'll call…I need to catch up with my best friends.” Ayumi nodded quickly, waving her hand.
“Of course, of course! I'll give it to you before I leave. Are you still doing fashion?”
“Absolutely.” Kagome grinned and watched as Ayumi smiled again. “What are you studying?”
Ayumi shrugged. “Marketing. I'm almost done, I'm graduating this year.” She looked around. “So, anyone else around here?”
Kagome looked at her. “Like who?”
Ayumi shrugged. “I don't know. We didn't leave high school in the nicest of terms. We acted babyish, especially me.” She grimaced.
Kagome sighed. “It wasn't just you. We all share the blame.”
“So…” Ayumi began, twisting her free hand in her dress. “Is Akina around?”
Kagome slowly smiled. `I knew she'd ask that…'
“She is…”

“Akina, look who I found,” Kagome said in a funny tone as she pushed Ayumi towards Akina. The red-haired wolf-youkai turned around from her conversation with her mother to land eyes on Ayumi.
“Ayumi?”
The woman grinned softly. “Hi…Akina.”
Akina seemed surprised for a whole ten seconds before shaking her head and breaking out in to a wide grin. “Ayumi!”
The friends, just for a second, forgot their fight and hugged tightly, Akina mindful of her strength against the human. “Akina, you look beautiful.”
“So do you,” Akina returned the compliment. Ayumi sparkled with a happiness that reflected on her physical appearance. Ayumi's pretty eyes flickered over to the back of the man that was standing besides Akina. He was talking with an elderly couple.
Ayumi opened her mouth to say something, but the man turned around, cerulean eyes landing on Ayumi. He blinked in surprise, but smiled nonetheless. “Ayumi, its nice to see you again.”
Ayumi's eyes flared wide at realizing who exactly was talking to her. “Z-Zachary?”
He nodded, wrapped an arm around Akina. “You're together.”
“We're married.” He confirmed. Ayumi titled her head, but grinned.
“Congratulations,” She said sincerely.
“I think all of us have a lot to catch up on.” Kagome said softly, putting a hand on Ayumi's shoulder. The woman nodded.
It seemed as though they talked about everything. First it was them four, Kagome, Ayumi, Akina, and Zachary. Then InuYasha joined in, but a few minutes later, he took Kagome. Yukio Niojin introduced himself before excusing himself and Ayumi. `This isn't so bad, expect, Kagome?'
`Hmm?'
`These shoes are hell.'
Kagome plastered on a bright smile for the woman who was talking to her and InuYasha. She tried to ignore the pain her expensive silver shoes were giving her. InuYasha's arm tightened around her waist, as though he sensed her discomfort. She didn't glance at him, trying to keep focused on the woman. “And then Lei fell over and oh Morikami-san, she looked so cute, you should've seen her!”
“I'm sure Leila was a tiny wonder,” InuYasha agreed, golden eyes flickering towards the woman.
She smiled widely. “When is your wedding?”
“December 24,” Kagome answered, leaning her weight on her left foot. Her feet burned and she winced.
“Winter?”
Kagome nodded. The woman nodded, tapping her index finger against her chin. “That sounds wonderful. Excuse me, though, it's been a pleasure talking to you.”
As soon as the woman left, InuYasha turned to Kagome. “Okay, wench, spill…what's wrong with you?”
Kagome blinked innocently. “Not a thing.”
“Kagome,” InuYasha started in a warning tone. Kagome made a face.
“These shoes are killing me,” She whispered, blinking back tears when InuYasha pulled her aside. She shot him a dark glance. “Thank you, dog-boy.”
He rolled his eyes. “You should've worn something comfortable,” He said in a firm tone. He bent down and swept her in to his arms. She gasped, furiously blushing.
“InuYasha” She complained, trying in vain to ignore the stares from Sesshoumaru's guests as InuYasha maneuvered her through the crowd and towards one of the guest bedrooms.
He shook his head. “Feh! Your feet hurt, right? Can't have that, now can we?”
She opened her mouth to complain, but sighed softly, opting to wrap her arms around his neck. `This is nicer' She thought as he opened up the door and set her gently on the bed. “Take them off.” He commanded, standing in front of her with his arms crossed over his chest.
Kagome rolled her eyes, but did as he `requested'. She threw the shoes aside, watching the angry red lines from the straps on her feet. She rubbed them furiously, grimacing at the red skin. He knelt down in front of her. “Does it hurt a lot?”
“Only when I walked with the heels, I'll be fine.” She said softly, watching as his ears drooped as he stared at her hurt feet.
“You wanna go home?”
Kagome shook her head. “You're supposed to be here. Can you go ask Kagura is she has some shoes I can borrow?”
He nodded, standing up and smacking a loud kiss on her cheek on the way. She watched him go with a smile.

“She looks gorgeous.”
“Who? Your mate?”
“Well yeah, obviously, Rini always look gorgeous. But I meant her.” Raidon pointed out the girl in the crowd that was currently sharing a dance with the tai-youkai.
Kiyoshi stared in the direction his brother pointed in only to see Sesshoumaru speaking to the girl he danced with, a golden blonde haired girl who's back was turned to them. “How many women can convince Uncle Sesshoumaru to dance?”
“Except Aunt Kagura? Not one.” Raidon said, breaking out in to a smirk. “Except for her, of course. Wonder what she said to him”
Kiyoshi shrugged. Raidon titled his head as he regarded his twin with interest. “I haven't seen her before. Come to think of it, Kiyoshi, I haven't seen Alexandra today. Have you?”
Kiyoshi shook his head. “Nuh-uh.”
“Are you really over her?”
He nodded, making a face. “Weren't you the first one to point out she'd never have me?”
Raidon frowned. “Well yeah, but still…”
Kiyoshi shrugged. “I like Victoria,” He looked at his feet and stuffed his hands in to his suit pocket. “---She makes me happy.”
“Did you ever get anywhere with Alexandra?”
“No.”
“Not even a kiss.”
The reminder of the kiss he gave her at the supermarket a few nights ago swirled in his head. He quickly dispelled it. “Only one, but that doesn't count. It was just a tap.”
Raidon nodded. “A tap leads a long way, Kiyoshi. If you wanna get laid that is---”
“---I wasn't out to lure Alexandra in to my bed you baka.”
Raidon shrugged, looked around. “Whatever suits you, I guess. I mean, hell, if Victoria makes you happy then by all means, be happy. Now, I'm going to hunt down my mate, the one I never quit on.”
Kiyoshi growled at his brother as Raidon walked away. `Alexandra isn't my mate, damnit. At least, not any more.'
`Wait---where the hell is Victoria?'
`She was with Ruby last I saw her.'
`Maybe you should go find her?'
Kiyoshi smiled. `Find her? Yeah…I'll do that.'
He set down his glass and turned around. A high pitched squeal made him wince as he looked down to see familiar violet eyes staring up at him. But what made him stop and blink in surprise was the hair color that the girl had.
`Blonde…' He stepped back. “Alexandra?”
She made a face. “Before you even say anything, yes, I dyed my hair.”
“Why?”
She shrugged. “I don't know. I got tired of having black hair?”
“Wait—you were dancing with Uncle Sesshoumaru?”
“Yes.”
The golden blonde locks were curled, held up with bobby pins. And although Alexandra was beautiful as a blonde, Kiyoshi thought she was even more beautiful with her original hair. “No more highlights?” He asked, reaching up and running his fingers over her hair. She shook her head.
“No, I'm a blonde now.” She wiggled her eyebrows at him. “Like it?”
“Not really.”
She frowned, crossed her arms over her chest. “Yeah well, I thought you were pretty ugly yourself. Now move, I've got people to mingle with.”
“I didn't say you were ugly,” Kiyoshi sighed, stepping back. “You always push me away, why?”
She hugged herself, rubbing her arms. “I don't know. Defense mechanism?”
“Against what? Me?” He sighed. “I never wanted to hurt you, you know. I would've have cherished you had you given me a chance.”
She sighed, draping her arm over her lean hip. “You've said that before. Did it ever occur to you I never wanted you to cherish me?”
He looked hurt and Alexandra grimaced. “No, it didn't actually.” He said with a tight smile. “Excuse me, I'm going to find my girlfriend.”
Before she could snap at him, he left. `I walked away from her…'
`You walked away from her…asshole.'
`Asshole? She was evil to me since I met her and I'm the asshole?'
`But she was special…'
`Well, now Victoria is special to me. I loved Alexandra, the one with black hair and red highlights. Blonde Alexandra…she isn't my cup of tea.'
`Why not? Victoria is blonde.'
`Victoria isn't Alexandra.'
`You're right…she isn't. She never will be.'

“Feh! I'd go, but I can't.”
Kagome smiled, leaned up to kiss InuYasha's cheek. “I know, I understand. I'll be back in three days, I promise.”
InuYasha made a face, but refused to release Kagome's hand. Victoria giggled. “Don't worry, InuYasha, I'll take good care of her.”
InuYasha snorted.
“I'll be back, you know I will. InuYasha, come on…” Kagome half-heartedly tried to take her hand back. She rolled her eyes. “You have to move in my stuff from my house in to yours. And I have some things in New York to pick up.”
He flushed. When Kagome had told him she had been in New York City the whole time, he had felt like a baka. Why hadn't he been able to find her? “I know.” He said, sighing. With his ears flattened against his head---a sign he was sad---he reluctantly released Kagome's hand. “Three days, Kagome. You better be back or I swear I'll be---”
Her lips against his silenced him. “Three days and I'll be back, I swear.”
He nodded. “Okay then.”
Kagome opened her mouth to say something when Kiyoshi walked towards the Taishou Inc. jet that would be transporting Kagome and Victoria to New York City. “Kiyoshi!”
Kiyoshi stopped to hug Kagome before he continued to Victoria, who smiled at him. “Come to say your goodbye?”
He nodded, raised his hand so rub a gentle finger against her downy cheek. “Will you be back?”
She shrugged. “I'm not sure. I have school to finish. My life is there.”
He nodded and smiled sadly. “I wanted to thank you. You've made me happy, happier than I've been in a long time.”
“The girlfriend?” She asked, half joking.
He shook his head. “No girlfriend. I'm all yours, remember?”
She nodded, grinning widely. “I'll be back for Kagome's wedding. We all will be back. I'll see you then?”
He nodded. “Why can't you stay?”
She sighed. “I don't belong here, Kiyoshi. I mean, its been wonderful with you, but I have to finish my schooling in America. If we're meant to be, we'll find each other again, right?”
He nodded.
“Can I see your real face again?”
Kiyoshi nodded, stepping back to undo his spell and let the human girl see his face. Kagome had explained to Victoria the concept of youkai and no later, had Victoria asked to see his marks and true self. She smiled as his sky-blue crests came in to view. She touched one. “I like these.”
“Yeah? So do I.”
She ran her fingers along his claws. “Goodbye, Superman.”
He chuckled. “We'll meet again, Victoria.”
Kiyoshi leaned down to gently kiss Victoria's cheek. Kagome giggled. “Enough smooching. Lets go.”
Victoria nodded as she let Kagome lead her in to the jet. It was Victoria's choice to leave, she wanted to go back. She didn't want to stay in Japan. As cute and amazing as Kiyoshi was, she didn't belong in that place. It wasn't for her. Kagome put a hand against her shoulder.
“He respects your decision. If you're meant to be---”
Victoria smiled. “---We'll find each other again.”
She looked out the window as the jet took off. “I'll miss my hanyou.”
Victoria shot her a glance. “You'll see him in three days. I'm leaving…for months.”
“Destiny has a funny way of working.”
“It does.” Victoria laughed. “I never expected in a million years to be the two-week girlfriend of a demon.”
Kagome laughed with her.
::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::*
Three days had gone by without a speck. She had gathered her things the first day, packed with Sharei and Emma. Victoria had classes that day. That night, they went for a girl's night out. The last day, Kagome had bought little trinkets for her family and she had bumped in to Vincent, who had smiled upon seeing her. She had also explained to Ellena she was leaving.
The woman had been panicking, asking her why. Kagome explained to her that her place was in Japan, with the man of her dreams. Ellena couldn't force her to work for Prada, but she did make Kagome promise she would never stop designing.
And upon returning to Japan, Souta had picked her up and dropped her off at InuYasha's home. He hadn't been there, so she unpacked her things and put them in their closet. `Wow, my home…'
InuYasha had brought over most of her clothes from her house. Her old computer was in a box near the bed. Some of her plushies, her albums, her camera, her box of sketch books, and a bag with all her lip glosses and creams. From New York, she brought the rest of her clothes, her jewelry, and her other things.
“How'd you get in?”
Kagome gasped and spun around to see InuYasha. She put a hand over her heart. “Baka, you almost scared the life out of me. Your door was open.”
A comical expression took over his face. “You were here all by yourself?”
She nodded.
“I thought you'd go to the company. If I knew you'd be here, I would've stayed.”
Kagome walked over to him. “Its okay. If the door hadn't been open, I would've gone to the company. So, miss me?”
He wrinkled his nose. “Let me think about it…”
“InuYasha!” She complained. He laughed, hugging her close.
“Of course I missed you, wench.”
She kissed him softly. “I missed you to.”
He crashed his lips over hers, holding her tightly. Kagome moaned against him, feeling his claws caress the flesh of her sides. She wrapped her arms around him, ran her hands up and down his back. “InuYasha?”
“Hmm?”
Kagome bit the bottom of her lip. “Why don't you---” `Well that's a stupid question, I know why he doesn't trust me' “---will you ever trust me again?”
He stopped to look at her. “I will, Kagome, it'll just take a little time.” She looked at her feet. “Its not that I don't trust you, its just that the trust we had---feh! I can't really explain what it is. Its there, but its not at the same time. Sounds stupid.”
“Its not.”
She understood completely.
