Kagome walked towards the phone… Although she really hated to do this… but she missed her family very much… she did make trips back to Tokyo… But she never dared to step near the Higurashi Shrine… not to say the Goshinboku or the bone eater's well

 

The ringing of the phone sounded in her ears as she waited… Every 3 months or so she would make a call back… Just to ensure her mother that she was doing well… and to ask about… Inuyasha… The past 2 times she called her mother couldn't talk for long as Souta seemed to suspect that it was her… All she could find out was… a month after she left… Inuyasha would sit at the Goshinboku every night… Sometimes climb into her room though the window and stay there the whole night… But… after that it seemed he didn't come so often…

 

Kagome didn't know if she was disappointed or relived… It just didn't feel right… As if something was missing…

 

“Hello! Higurashi shrine!”

 

“Mama…”

 

“Oh! Kagome! Ohh…Sorry! I have to keep my voice down… Souta and Ji-Chan are around…”

 

“Mama… how is everyone?”

 

“We are all fine we just miss you very much… Eri and all keep asking where you went but I couldn't say because I was afraid Inuyasha would go and ask them or something…”

 

“Mama… Sorry… I put you though all this kind of trouble…”

 

“Kagome… Are you coming back this time? Back home?”

 

“Home…Yes… I think so… Inuyasha… won't come so often anymore right?”

 

“No… I always seem to think he's here but when I peek out of the window, it seems that all I see is a shadow of him…”

 

Shadow…Of him…?

 

“He…hasn't been asking about the Shikon no tama has he?”

 

“Surprisingly… No! He only kept interrogating Souta about your whereabouts…Kagome he cares about you… Why won't you see him?”

 

“Mama…I have my reasons… I will see him when the time comes… Just to return the jewel…”

 

He cares…about me…

 

“Ah… so Kagome when are you coming back?”

 

“In about a week's time I suppose… I would-”

 

“Inu-no-ni-chan!! You came again! Did you come to play?”

 

“Keh! Have fun? No way!! Is Kagome back?”

 

Inuyasha…It's him! That voice! It's him…It's been a year…but that voice…it's just soothes me to hear that he's safe…

 

“I think I'll hang up now…Mama! Don't tell him anything alright! I'll be back in a week!”

 

“Ah-ah! Hai! Hope to see you soon!”

 

“Mama! Who's that?!! It's Nee-Chan right!? Let me talk to her!!”

 

Kagome's heart skipped a beat…Souta… do you always have to be so accurate…

“Kagome?! Where!!? In that long thing?”

 

“It's a phone, Ni-Chan! You can hear Nee-Chan's voice!!”

 

“Let me have it!! Kagome?! Oi! Kagome! Are you there?! Answer me you!! Oi! I know you're there!!”

 

Kagome slammed down the phone… Inuyasha… Why do you have to be so persistent?!

 

He's safe…I'm glad…

 

Kagome couldn't hold back her tears anymore… this time she let them fall freely…

 

Inuyasha…When I'm ready I'll see you again… I promise…

“Damn! It was Kagome was it?!”

 

“No Inuyasha! It was my old relative in Hokkaido! You must have scared the wits out of her!”

 

“No! It has to be Kagome! You know where she is? Tell me! I have to find her!”

 

“Why do you want to find her Inuyasha?”

“I- I…”

 

“Is it because she still has the Shikon no tama?”

 

“I-…No! She can't just run away like that! I-I… The rest of the gang is looking for her!”

 

“Inuyasha… Do you care for her? Do you care for Kagome?”

 

“I-… I don't know!”

 

“Then why are you asking me? To let you know where Kagome is? She ran away because of you.”

 

“Because of me?”

 

“I may be old but I'm not senile, Kagome came back that night holding a rosary. She was crying… She wouldn't tell me what happened but very clearly as her mother I noticed…”

 

“Kotodama rosary…”

 

“Clearly it belonged to you…The one that she used to make you Osuwari all the time.”

 

“Keh! I lived much better without it…!”

 

“Are you sure?”

 

“Keh! Since she's not here, I'm going to make a move!”

 

“Inuyasha! Can I ask you something?”

 

“Eh?”

 

“Do you come here every night?”

 

“Keh! Why would I?!”

 

“I seem to see you shadow almost every night… But it just disappears out of the shrine as soon as I look.”

 

“Yo-You must be thinking too much!”

 

“Maybe I am… Am I?”

 

Mrs. Higurashi watched as Inuyasha flung open the window and hopped outside…

 

Maybe…I did see him every night…
