Writing The Perfect Ending
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. Sniffles in background. Rumiko Takahashi does. Oh yeah I don't own the song in this chapter, Story of the Year does.
A/N Hello everyone! I was actually able to write this and enjoy it, which I find a very good thing and right now it's making me quite hyper ^_^ I will not be quitting this story for any reason…ever. Well on with the story…hope you enjoy.
Chapter One: A Phone Call
--
"Hi, what's your name?" Kagome asked the last teenage girl in line for autographs. She looked a bit uncertain at situation she was in. "I'm Yukiko." She answered quietly.
"So, Yukiko what do you like to do in your free-time?" Kagome asked next as she grabbed the last hardcover copy of, Shadows in the Forgotten Soul, her newest book that was hitting the number one best-selling charts.
"Um…I like to draw." This time Kagome didn't reply, but instead opened the book to the title page and began to write.
`To my friend, Yukiko, may you always love to draw, for it's a wonderful talent!' and put her signature underneath it.
She quietly shut the book and handed it to the girl before her. "Good luck with your drawings, Yukiko."
"Thank you Ms. Higurashi," the young girl replied.
"Not a problem." Kagome nodded politely.
Yukiko's mother murmured a quick `thank you', then ushered her daughter out the door.
Kagome looked around as if looking for something or someone before she got up from her chair behind the table. She grabbed her purse and said a quick `thank you' to the cashier as she walked out of the little bookstore.
Instead of going straight home, she decided to walk around the streets of Kyoto for a while. She stopped at a coffee shop that was on the path she took. (Have to have caffeine, right?) There was no one in line so Kagome swiftly walked up to the cashier.
"Hello, welcome to Mika's Coffee Shop. May I help you?" the young man behind the counter asked.
"I'll have a French Vanilla Cappuccino please." Kagome ordered, she started to look at the magazines on the shelves. She picked one up that caught her attention. "And this too, I suppose," Kagome added as she placed the magazine on the counter.
"Alright, your total is $6.24," the cashier said in a monotone voice. Kagome handed him a ten from inside her purse. He quickly gave her the change and went to get her coffee. It took him a couple minutes but Kagome waited patiently. She was in no a hurry.
As soon as she received her coffee, she found a small table in a secluded corner. She opened the magazine to the article about the man on the cover and began to read:
`Inuyasha, the hottest actor in Japan has recently broken up with his girlfriend, Kikyo, who is starring in his latest movie.
`So once again he is one of the most wanted bachelors in Japan. He has starred in a couple hit movies such as: Forbidden Love and Death Before Dishonor.'
Kagome threw the magazine down in disgust. `He's probably another playboy jackass. Why people obsess over him, I will never know. Maybe it's because of those stupid things on his head.' Kagome thought angrily.
She continued to sip on her cappuccino, when she finished she stood picking up her purse and magazine. As she walked by the trashcan, she dumped her cup and took one last look at the magazine before dumping that in also. She walked out of the door with a smug smile on her face.
`I want anime. No I want a romance novel. No. Yes. No. I'll compromise with myself; I'll buy Masami Tsuda's `Kare Kano.' Still anime but a romance with no defined plot.' Kagome thought as she went to the nearest anime store.
She walked in and quickly found the anime she was looking for. She discreetly grabbed five DVD volumes before raced up to the cashier. Luckily, no one was in line so she put the DVD's on the counter.
The lady didn't say hello or anything she just started ringing the items up. When she finished she gave Kagome her total, "That will be $90.42." Kagome gave the woman her credit card and the woman took it gratefully swiped it and asked Kagome to sign the receipt. After she finished the lady checked the signature on Kagome's card and the receipt. Finally, when this long process had ended Kagome walked out of the store with the new items in her hand.
`I'm done shopping for today. Time to go home and watch my anime.' Kagome thought with a big, cheery smile plastered on her face. She was more then likely scaring the people that walked next to her, but she didn't show any sign of caring.
She was now walking back to the bookshop to get her car and drive home. Her walk was uneventful and she came quickly to the bookstore, as expected.
Kagome swiftly walked into the alley behind the store, where she had parked her blood red Corvette. Being an author had some great perks. She had always wanted a Corvette, so that was the first thing she bought when her book became a best seller and owned by almost every person in Japan.
Kagome unlocked the doors and quickly slid in. As soon as she did her cell-phone began to the tune of Beethoven's Ninth symphony.
"Moshi, moshi." Kagome answered emotionlessly.
"Higurashi, how's it going?" an excited male voice asked her.
"Fine," she answered still with her monotone voice.
"Um, I was wondering if you would go to dinner with me on Friday?"
"Sure Hojo," answered a less than thrilled Kagome.
"Higurashi, you don't sound too happy."
"I'm just tired. I'll be fine," Kagome lied.
"Go home and get a lot of rest, ok?"
"I will," a now very annoyed Kagome replied.
"See you later," Hojo said goodbye quickly and hung up. Kagome pressed the `end' button on her cell-phone and sighed in relief.
`My relationship with him is going nowhere. I'd feel bad to break it off with him but we've been going out for three years now and he still calls me Higurashi. Maybe I will break it off.'
Kagome started her car and pulled out of the parking lot. She figured with the traffic she would be home in an hour.
<><><><><><><><> ;<><><><>3 hours later<><><><><><><><><&g t;<><><><><>
`Damn, was I wrong about traffic. I'm actually tired now. Where's the Mountain Dew?' Kagome thought as she tossed her keys and anime on her kitchen counter. She walked over to the refrigerator and grabbed a Mountain Dew.
As Kagome grabbed her anime she opened her pop and walked into her adjoining living room. She set her pop down and went to get her DVD player set up. After it was ready Kagome happily flopped down onto the couch to watch it.
`Shit I forgot to check my messages.' Kagome thought as her mood changed from pure bliss to annoyance as she got up and walked over to her telephone. Only to see the machine's message button flashing. Quickly pressing it, the electronic voice began.
"You have one message. Message one: Ms. Higurashi, this is the owner of Takahashi Corporation and we would like to make your newest novel into a movie. If you or your editor could call to arrange a meeting that would be great. The number is (276)-555-2013. Thanks."
As soon as the message finished Kagome started jumping up and down, "Yes finally something different in the life of Kagome Higurashi! I have to call Miroku," she said happily as she picked up her phone and dialed his number. Her editor picked up on the first ring.
"Moshi, moshi," he greeted.
"Hey, Miroku you're going to believe whom I just got a call from," Kagome said, excited.
"You sound so excited why don't you just tell me?" Miroku asked.
"Okay! Well I got a call from Takahashi Corporation and they want to make `Shadows in the Forgotten Soul' a movie. He wanted you or me to arrange a meeting." Kagome told him happily.
"Wow! You're kidding. I can arrange the meeting, I'll call now. What's the number?" Miroku eagerly asked.
"(276)-555-2013, thanks. Miroku can you call me back to tell me when it's going to be?"
"Of course. Talk to you in a little while, bye." He answered quickly.
"Bye," Kagome quickly got in before she heard the dial tone, then she hung up.
Kagome walked back over to her couch and plopped back down and pressed play. `I need to keep my mind occupied.' Kagome thought as she was lost to the world of Kare Kano.
The phone began to ring and Kagome bolted off the couch and ran over to pick it up, none too quietly.
"Moshi, moshi," Kagome said breathlessly into the phone.
"Kag, you sound like you just ran a mile." Miroku said teasingly.
"Shut up. So when's the meeting?" Kagome eagerly asked.
"My, my aren't we impatient?"
"Miroku." Kagome growled.
"Alright, alright. It's tomorrow at eleven o'clock." Miroku answered quickly this time to spare severe pain.
"It's tomorrow. Wow that's fast." Kagome responded.
"They have to be, this is the movie business. Anyways I was wondering if you wanted to celebrate?" Miroku asked.
"Miroku, I've told you before I won't bear your child or even go out with you." Kagome growled dangerously this time, he was getting on her nerves.
"No, Kag. Not as a date and not like…that. As an editor and an author. You should celebrate, I'll even buy you a drink." Miroku offered.
"Fine," Kagome answered, "But if you try anything…"
"I won't, Kag don't worry. I'll be there to pick you up in about a half hour."
"Okay, Bye." Kagome hung up the phone slowly and quietly.
`I have to change, I'm still in my clothes from earlier.' She thought as she looked down at her knee length black skirt and red blouse. `Yup, I definitely gotta change.'
Kagome raced up the stairs to her bedroom and straight to her closet. She grabbed a pair of faded blue jeans that fit snugly and a tight fitting shirt that said: You're just jealous `cause the voices only talk to me.' It showed a couple inches of skin but wasn't the usual slut outfit.
Kagome changed into the clothes she had picked out and walked over to the mirror and took her long raven hair out of the bun and combed it out. her make-up was simple so she added a little more light pink eye shadow and another layer of mascara. Then as a finishing touch she put a light layer of lip-gloss on.
It had only taken Kagome twenty minutes to get ready so she grabbed her purse and went downstairs to wait.
After a half-hour, the doorbell finally rang. "At last," muttered Kagome as she got up and opened the door. "Your late," Kagome said annoyed.
"I couldn't decide which shirt the ladies would like more." Miroku said with a huge perverted grin on his face.
"You're pathetic." Kagome said as she rolled her eyes and walked over to his silver Dodge Viper, (Miroku wasn't short of money either.) and got in on the passenger side. Miroku followed and got in the driver's seat, put his seat belt on and revved up the car.
Soon they were going eighty on the freeway.
"So, Kag, I can't believe your book's going to be made into a movie. That's awesome, I mean I can't wait to meet all the fine women." Miroku said as his perverted grin returned.
"Miroku, can't you get your mind out of the gutter for once?"
Miroku paused as if he was thinking, "Umm…no…I don't think I can."
At this Kagome gave up all hope on her lecherous friend.
Miroku turned off the freeway and onto one of the many streets of Kyoto. Traffic was heavy because it was a Friday at ten o'clock and the clubs were busy.
Miroku was now only concentrating on driving so Kagome was looking out the window at all the lit up shops, bars, and movie theaters.
She couldn't help but think about how superficial her life really was. Miroku had turned onto another street and was looking for a place to park.
After a good fifteen minutes of searching he finally found one and quickly pulled into it before anyone else could. Kagome opened her door and stepped out. Miroku did the same.
Their parking spot turned out to be great, they were parked right in front of the club they were going to. Kagome looked down the street and saw in every parking place a flashy car, these were people who also had no lack of money.
They walked up to the bouncers at the door and showed them their ID. They got in without a problem. As soon as they walked in the sight of two hundred sweaty people dancing to the blaring music greeted them. When you looked to the left you saw all the people sitting at the bar, those who trying to forget their pains and sorrows and those celebrating and just having a good time.
"Do you want to get a drink first or dance?" Miroku yelled over the crowd.
"Drink, I may not be able to find you later." Kagome yelled back.
He led her over to the bar and she told the bartender what she wanted, "I'll have a Cranberry Mike's Hard Lemonade."
"Coming right up," the man said as he went to get her one.
Miroku tapped her on the shoulder and gave her a twenty-dollar bill. "I'm going to dance. See you in a while." He yelled so she could hear him. Kagome nodded her head and he vanished into the crowd.
The bartender had come back with her drink. She gave him the twenty and he gave her the change.
Kagome then set to the task of finding a table. She eventually found one that seated two and sat down. `Well this is great fun. I'm alone in a club, well technically not alone but Miroku's probably long gone now. We were supposed to celebrate `together.' That was short lived.' Kagome thought as she took a huge gulp of her drink.
"You shouldn't drink so fast," the man who had sat down with her while she was thinking said. Kagome jumped and looked up. Chocolate brown clashed with a startling violet.
"What are you a doctor?" Kagome asked as she thought, `Please not another one.'
"Keh, hell no, I know from experience," said the man smart ass like.
Kagome stared at the man in front of her, taking in his appearance. He had midnight black hair that was longer than hers and his violet eyes were a swirling combination of pain, sorrow, and something she couldn't recognize.
"What are you looking at?" His all too cocky voice snapped her right back too reality. "Nothing." Kagome answered as she found the floor quite interesting and felt her cheeks heat up.
"What's your name?" He asked a little kinder this time. The blushing woman looked up and answered, "Kagome. What about yours?"
`Shit what an I suppose to tell her, I can't tell her my real name,' thought the man before her. Quickly he blurted out, "Ryu, my name is Ryu."
"Hello, Ryu." Kagome said as she held her hand out. He shook it and as he did she felt a feeling of shock course through her. Kagome felt the blood rush to her cheeks again and noticed he had a faint pink shad to his cheeks as well. Kagome pulled her had back.
Their `moment' was interrupted as another man walked up. He had his black hair pulled up in a high ponytail and had misty blue eyes. "Well, well. If it isn't dog boy and what must be his new girlfriend," this man said cockily.
Before Ryu could say anything, Kagome stood up for him, "His name isn't dog boy, it's Ryu and I'm not his girlfriend, we just met."
"Well, Ryu, you seem to have strange tastes, she looks remarkably like…" before he could finish Ryu yelled and told him to shut up.
`Oh, great if this comes to blows I'm gonna get kicked out too.' Kagome thought, worried.
The man changed the subject to Kagome, "Name's Kouga. So, if your not going out with dog boy how about you come dance with me?" Kouga asked and Kagome looked around as if trying to find something interesting on the wall.
Kouga waved a hand in front of her face, "So how about it?" He asked again.
"No I think I'll stay her with Ryu." Kagome answered quietly.
"You would rather stay with dog shit than me?" Kouga asked in mock hurt. She didn't answer this time but Ryu answered for her, "Damn straight, wimpy wolf. Now back off!"
"Now Kagome, do you want me to leave? Because if you do, I will." Kouga asked confident that she wanted him to stay. "Umm…well…yeah I would like you to leave." Kagome answered meekly, trying to prevent a fight.
Kouga made no signs of leaving so Ryu jumped and yelled to be heard, "She told you to leave, so scram!"
Finally he got the message and left. "Thanks. What's with the name calling between you two?" Kagome asked quietly.
"He's a wolf demon, I've worked with him before and we've never gotten along." Ryu answered.
"But why did he call you dog boy?" asked Kagome curiously.
"He had to have a name to call me," he answered quickly.
"Oh, okay." Kagome seemed satisfied by his answer so Ryu sighed inwardly. "Hey, Ryu, do you want to dance?" Ryu looked in shock at the girl before him, "Sure."
They got up and Kagome led him to the dance floor. The song had changed to Anthem of Our Dying Day by: Story of the Year.
The stars will cry the blackest tears tonight
And this is the moment that I live for
I can smell the ocean air
Here I am pouring my heart onto these rooftops
Just a ghost to the world
That's exactly,
Exactly what I need...
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day...
For a second I wish the tide will swallow every inch of the city
As you gasp for air tonight
I'd scream this song right in your face if you were here
Cause then I wont miss a beat cause I never,
Never have before...
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day...
Of our dying day
Of our dying day
OF OUR DYING...
For a second I wish the tide would swallow every inch of this city
As your gasped for air tonight...
Kagome pushed up against Ryu's chest with her back and he wrapped his arms around her tiny shoulders. They began to sway with the music. The song seemed as if it was meant for them and it would never end. `This wasn't supposed to feel so…right. It was just to pass time.' Kagome kept thinking throughout the song.
Ryu's thoughts were similar to Kagome's. `Damn, who is this girl. I've never felt like this before.'
When the song did end they pulled apart sadly. Kagome turned around to look Ryu into the eyes. She was captured by hw his emotions changed so quickly from hate and pain to love and happiness and then they would change back and forth as if he was confused.
"Do you want to dance again?" Ryu asked as softly as he could but to still be heard over the music. Kagome nodded yes and their pink tinted cheeks returned. The music changed from slow to fast and before they knew it a few hours had passed.
Ryu and Kagome decided to go get drinks. `After this I better go find Miroku, so we can leave. Otherwise I won't be able to get up in time for that meeting.' Kagome thought as she looked at her watch, which read twelve o'clock.
Ryu ordered drinks for both of them; he got Kagome another hard lemonade and himself a bottle of Budwiser. As soon as he received their drinks and paid he handed Kagome hers and went to find a table.
They quickly found an open two-seat table and sat down, in relief. "What do you do for a living, Ryu? " Kagome asked trying to make conversation.
"I'm an actor," Ryu answered quickly and his cocky voice returned, then thought to himself, `Oh great! That was so stupid!'
"Really? Wow, what movies have you been in?" Kagome asked in awe, she was sitting and having a drink with an actor. "Forbidden Love and Death Before Dishonor." Ryu answered. `Damn, I have to remember I'm not my real self.'
"Oh, wow! I don't recall seeing you in it though." said Kagome confused.
"Yeah I had different colored hair and eyes. So what do you do for a living?" Ryu asked trying to get off the dangerous subject of his job. "I'm an author," she answered easily.
"Oh, cool. What books have you written?" He asked.
"Shadows in the Forgotten Soul and Broken Trusts." Kagome answered swiftly, she was used to these kinds of questions.
"Isn't Shadows of the Forgotten Soul that bestseller right now?" Ryu asked trying to confirm his suspicions. Kagome's cheeks became even more flushed as she answered, "Yeah."
`That's the movie I was supposed to star in if the author agreed?' Ryu thought to himself. While he was thinking Kagome glanced at the clock above the bar, it read a little past two o'clock. `No way two hours haven't passed,' she thought as she looked at her watch, it still read twelve. `Shit, my battery died.' Kagome thought angrily.
"Is something wrong? You look angry," Ryu interrupted her thoughts. "I have this meeting tomorrow for my book to be made into a movie but now I'm going to be so tired," Kagome told him in distress, "My editor and I drove together to celebrate but he wandered off right away.
"Oh, sounds like a great editor. Do you want help finding him?" Ryu asked as if he was concerned but was inwardly smirking, he had another job and it was with her, sort of.
"Yeah, thanks." Kagome answered a little happier. After looking around a while and not finding him Kagome told Ryu she would go outside and try his cell phone. He decided to go with so they wouldn't get split up.
As soon as they were out Kagome dialed the number. Miroku picked up after a few rings. "Moshi, moshi."
"Miroku, where are you?" Kagome asked angrily, she was getting tired and was sick of playing hide and seek.
"Umm…well…I'm at home," he answered carefully knowing she would explode. Kagome looked around for his car; sure enough it wasn't there.
"You're where? I suppose you drove home and forgot I was here!" Kagome yelled.
"Yeah, well I sort of did. Do you want me to pick you up or can you get a ride?" Miroku asked trying to make up for forgetting her.
Kagome turned to Ryu and sweetly asked, "Could you please give me a ride, my editor left?"
"Yeah, not a problem," Ryu answered, wanting to spend more time with her. Kagome turned her attention back to the phone, "I have a ride," she said and hung up.
After she put her phone up she turned to Ryu and hugged him, "Thank you." Kagome pulled away fairly quick and started to shiver, after all it was September and it was late.
"Come on you'll be warmer in the car." Ryu said as he led her to a black 2004 Porsche Carrera GT. He unlocked the doors and they both got in. He pulled out of the parking spot and Kagome told him where her house was.
Traffic was still bad so they weren't going too fast but in Ryu's mind that was just fine.
Kagome kept yawning and Ryu was having a hard time starting a conversation so finally he asked her if she wanted to sleep for the last twenty minutes. She nodded and happily fell asleep.
When they got to the road, Kagome lived on, and Ryu switched gears before slowing. Lightly waking the sleeping woman he asked her which house was hers, she pointed to one of the smaller, but nice looking houses. Ryu pulled into the driveway and stopped.
"Kagome, could I have your number?" He asked.
"Sure, it's 555-4488," she answered as she opened her door and stepped out, "Thanks again for the ride," she said as she walked up to her house and waved goodbye. Ryu waved back and pulled out of the driveway lost in thought.
Kagome watched him go and then took her keys out of her purse. She had difficulty finding the right one because their was no moon that night. But she finally got her door opened. She shut and locked the door once she was inside and tossed her keys back into her purse.
She slowly walked up the stars to her room not bothering to turn the lights on, changed into her pajamas and set her alarm for 9:30am and flopped down on her bed. It seemed that as soon as her head hit the pillow she was asleep and dreaming of a black haired, violet-eyed man.
A/N Wow, that was long for me…anyways hope you all enjoyed the first chappie!!!^_^ Oh yeah my twin kept yelling at me cause in my summary I had the whole `will they hit it off or will this be WW3'. She being the perfectionist pointed out that technically it would be a `Civil War' not a `World War.' But who says `is this gonna be another Civil War?' Anyways that's kind of just my annoyance right now being as I just banged my knee on my desk…sorry about that….^_^ But now I'm back in a good mood because I got to watch Trigun today!!!!!!!!!! Many thanks to my friend: Souls' Hatred, who loaned me Trigun and was kind enough to fix my many mistakes in this story. I will try to update as soon as possible but school is starting soon….it's so unfair. Well I guess I've talked long enough…Please review, it makes me really happy and I'm inspired to write more!
