Writing the Perfect Ending

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha…Rumiko Takahashi does. Also I don't own the song I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That You Should Shut Your Mouth. Fall Out Boy owns it…

Chapter Four

Kagome began to wander the parking lot aimlessly. Her long raven hair was soaked and her dress was so wet she felt like she had gained ten pounds. At least. Kagome continued to wander around until she heard someone laugh behind her and say,
“Well if it isn't the girl who spilled coffee on my lap?”

Kagome whipped her head around only to see the last person on earth that she wanted to see. Inuyasha. In truth she hadn't thought that he would even remember her, but spilling coffee on someone's lap does tend to make them remember you. If only to spill coffee on your lap the next time they see you sitting innocently in a coffee shop.

She figured she must have walked by him without even noticing him and that's how he saw her face.

“Yeah, I guess I did. Sorry about that.” Kagome said in response to Inuyasha's earlier question. On any other day she would have never said sorry, but he was pretty much her only possible ride home at the moment.

Kagome noticed how wet he was becoming, his jeans were really wet and his baggy sweatshirt was soaked all the way through.

“What are you doing here in a dress like that in the pouring rain?” Inuyasha asked actually sounding like he almost cared. Then again he was an actor.

“Well I went out with my boyfriend and we broke up and then he drove off without me. My purse and cell phone just happened to be in his car. So here I am wet and without money, cell phone, or a car.” Kagome finished explaining her misfortunes.

“That sucks doesn't it? Kind of like getting coffee spilled on your lap right before you had a meeting to go to about a possible job opportunity.” Inuyasha said with that smirk plastered on his face.

Kagome just stared. How could someone be so rude? She said sorry to him and explained why she was out here when he asked. So why should he just seem like he cared then when he finds out what happened to her throw it right back into her face. She didn't need this. Not tonight. Not ever for that matter.

She turned around so she didn't have to look at his smug face and started walking in the other direction. Ordinarily in a situation like this she would have run away, but well the shoes and dress she was wearing made that kind of difficult.

She didn't even make it ten feet before she heard footsteps coming towards her and someone gently grabbed her arm and turned her around. When turned around Kagome was staring into two amber pools of pain and sadness. Maybe she was wrong about Inuyasha. Maybe his life wasn't as glamorous as she had always thought it was. Maybe it was just one more lie.

“Look, I'm sorry about that. I was just mad about the whole coffee incident. You have no idea how pissed my half-brother was that I didn't show up to that meeting.” Inuyasha said.

Kagome just stared at him, shocked that he could actually apologize until she quietly said, “Your brother didn't seem pissed.”

“What! You were there! Why?” Inuyasha exclaimed.

“I'm the author of the book the movie is based on that you are starring in. So, yes, naturally I would be at the meeting. Don't worry though you didn't miss much. It was just me, my editor, and your half-brother there.” Kagome said explaining.

“You're the author?” Inuyasha asked looking really confused. It had all clicked in his head. This was the girl he danced with about a week ago. He knew she looked familiar.

“Yes.” Kagome replied simply.

Inuyasha just stood there wondering how it didn't click in his brain until now until he finally said, “Well I guess I better take you home then, as we have that late lunch tomorrow to go to.”

Kagome just stared at him, wondering how he could possibly change so much in the two days she had known him, his mood going from angry, to nice, to angry, and back to nice again. Now she was completely confused. Instead of pondering over his feelings more she responded, “That would be good. Thank you.”

Inuyasha led Kagome to a dark red Corvette. Kagome walked around to the passenger side and Inuyasha unlocked the doors. She slid inside, her dress getting the leather seats wet. Inuyasha got in and put the key in the ignition and started the car.

The radio began to blast out one of Fall Out Boy's new songs called: I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth. Kagome began to sing softly along.

Joke me something awful just like kisses on the necks of "just friends"
We're the kids who feel like dead ends
And I want to be known for my hits, not just my misses
I took a shot and didn't even come close
At trust and love and hope
And the poets are just kids who didn't make it
Who never had it at all

And the record won't stop skipping
And the lies just won't stop slipping
And besides my reputation's on the line
We can fake it for the airwaves
Force our smiles, baby, half dead
From comparing myself to everyone else around me

Please put the doctor on the phone because I'm not making any sense
Blame everyone but me for this mess
And my back has been breaking from this heavy heart
We never seemed so far
I'm hopelessly hopeful, that you're just hopeless enough
But we never had it at all

And the record won't stop skipping
And the lies just won't stop slipping
And besides my reputation's on the line
We can fake it for the airwaves
Force our smiles, baby, half dead
From comparing myself to everyone else around me
to everyone else around me
everyone else around me
everyone else around me

“I love that song” Kagome said quietly.

“I do too. I got to see Fall Out Boy in concert a little while ago and they are awesome!” Inuyasha said, happy that they were talking now; it made him less nervous about her figuring out that he really was `Ryu.' Not that she probably would. He looked way different as a human. `There is no way she would ever connect the two.' Inuyasha reassured himself silently.

The car was quiet now. Inuyasha looked over at Kagome. She was staring out the window. They rode in silence for twenty-five minutes until Kagome told him to turn on the road she lived on. He did and then asked which house was hers.

Kagome pointed to the same one she had the other night and Inuyasha pulled into the driveway. “Thanks again for the ride. I guess I'll see you tomorrow.” Kagome said politely.

“It wasn't a problem. See you tomorrow.” Inuyasha replied. Kagome stepped out of the car and walked up to her front steps where she saw her purse sitting in front of the door. Kagome picked it up and got her key out and opened her front door.

As she went in she saw Inuyasha pull out of her driveway. Kagome put her purse on the counter, surprisingly it wasn't that wet. `Houjo must have just dropped it off a little while ago.' Kagome thought to herself. She walked upstairs into her bedroom and grabbed some dry clothes and went into the bathroom where she changed into her pajamas and got ready for bed. She was soon ready and got in her bed, snuggling into the warmth of her cover.

She soon fell into a deep sleep without dreams, but not before thoughts of Ryu came and why he never called…
