Youkai Love

Chapter 1 - Past self

Kagome stumbled in to a clearing as she tried to run away. Hot tears were sliding down her flushed cheeks. A stray tree root caught her foot and she went tumbling down to the hard earth. She clenched her teeth but refused to get up. She put her hands over her eyes as she tried to stop her tears. Her head hurt, as did her heart and entire body.

"I knew I'd get hurt.. why did I allow myself to fall for him..?" She whispered under her breath.

She knew exactly who 'him' was. Inuyasha... the inu hanyou she traveled with for two years of her life. The one she gave her heart to... the same who tore it to peices by being with the clay and bones Kikyou. He had so many times compared her to the person she looked like... but they were opposites.

She wasn't even her reincarnation.

Kagome had never really been Kikyou.

She had always known...

Her human mother wasn't even her own.... nor was Souta her real brother or Jii-chan her real grandpa...

Flashback....

A younger version of Kagome when she was six sat under the god tree, eyes closed and meditating.

"Kagome?"

She opened her eyes and saw her mother standing in front of her holding a leather book in her hands..

"Yes Okaa-san?" She said smiling.

Her mother sat down beside her with a sigh resting the book in her lap.

"I know I've told you this story before.... but I thought I'd show you some pictures.."

"Pictures? Of Yume-sama?" She said, her smile fading to one of sadness.

her mother nodded. Untying the strings binding it she opened to the first page the old paper crackling as she did so.

Kagome leaned intently over looking at the first picture.

It was of a beautiful woman in her early twenties. She had long silky black tresses tied in to two buns atop her head with a few strands framing her face. She had deep soulful brown eyes and a calm face lite up with a gentle smile. She was wearing an loose green knitted sweater and a long black skirt. She also wore a simple necklace with a small pink sphere at the end dangling from it.

Kagome stared at the picture in shock.

"Is this Yume? She's so pretty!"

Her mom smiled weakly.

"Yes she was. She was said to be the reincarnation of a powerful preistess called Kikyou. Protector of the legendary Shikon no Tama."

Kagome nodded knowing what it was. She touched her side lightly where she felt the powerful aura coming from inside her.

Her mother continued in a remorseful voice.

"When we found you on our doorstep six years ago we didn't know what to do. You didn't look like us but we somehow knew you were important. We asked for spiritual help all over Japan for them to conceal your looks and live a normal life... Monks, Preists, mikos... they all tried. But none worked.. it was if a barrier protected you and all of them said you had great power hidden within you. Only one day a few months later Yume came to door asking us if she could try.

"We accepted and carried you to the shrine for her to try. She did with all of her being and she succeeded. Only she had used so much of her soul's power for you she soon died afterwards. Only with all the power she put in to you.. gave you part of her soul and also the jewel she protected with you..."

Kagome nodded in agreement placing a hand on her mother's shoulder.

"I know... I some times see her memories in my dreams when I sleep..."

Her mother looked shocked by this but smiled.

"I see.."

She turned the page again and finished showing her pictures of her as a babe before she was concealed. When they reached to books end her mother sighed saying

"Kagome I have to tell you something.."

"What is it Okaa-san?"

She turned to her daughter her eyes saddened her hands shaking in her lap.

"Kagome... you can undo this spell whenever you wish. Yume told us all you have to do is pray under the full moon for release under a sakura tree..."

Kagome's heart wrenched as her mom looked like she was about to cry. She wrapped her arms around her and said.

"Don't worry mom. I won't for as long as I don't have too.."

Her mom nodded, for words were not needed.

So they sait there under the god tree giving each other strenght and reasssurance.

End Flashback

Kagome wished she could be in her mother's embrace right now.. to feel that same calm. but she couldn't... she needed to do this herself.

She pulled herself up and started running again. her destination unknown except the driving thought to get away.

She ran nonestop ignorign her muscles begging for rest or the cold drafts the night air brought her. Only the drumming of her feet on hard soil kept her going as the moon receded and the sun ascended in to the sky as morning came.

Kagome didn't care...

She didn't even know which direction she was going.

East, West.. it didn't matter...

The se hit soething hard.. really hard.

She opened her eyes and looked up.

Looking down at her coldly were two gold eyes. Her had two magenta stripes on each cheek and a bold cresent moon on his forehead.

"Sesshoumaru.." She whispered.

"What are you doing on my land wench? and where is my bastard brother?" He said.

She frowned her anger bubbling.

"I don't know." She said sullenly.

He growled and quickly wrapped his claws around her neck and dangled her in the air.

"Do not lie to me human!"

Kagome eyesight was starting to get blurry as his words rang in her ears and thoughts of her apolgies to her family and friends running through her head as she thought of what her dead body would look like when they found her..

Suddenly a small pink object fluttered in to her veiw infront of the two golden eyes and landed on the ground covered with others.

Sakura petals...

that means....

She closed her eyes and started praying and chanting a mantra in her head..

A intense tingling sensation started all over her body to the tips of every finger to her very toes. She felt hair whipping on her cheeks and an dull burning across her cheeks and on her forehead. It felt like a blazing fire inside her.

Unconciously she placed her hands on Sesshoumaru's arm and sent forth energy to burn his skin.

She felt him tense then realease her. Kagome normally would have crumpled to the ground but she landed gracefully on the ground with great agility.

When the sensations finally cleared she relaxed and slowly opened her eyes to look out at the demon lord before her with an stone face but his eyes showed her all...
