Chapter 10: Kikyo's decision and Inu Yasha's regret
The group had been walking all through the night. Kagome and Sango rode on Kirara. Kagome held Shippo and Souta, who were both asleep. Sango was asleep as well, but Sesshomaru and Miroku insisted that they reach Sesshomaru's castle by early morning to treat Souta and make sure nothing in his castle was amiss.
Sesshomaru invited Kagome's friends to stay in the castle until the jewel shard hunt began again. Kagome had brought up Naraku and said that he needed to be defeated before he gained possession of the whole jewel.
Sesshomaru said that they would be going to search for the jewel in about a week, but Jaken, Rin, Ah, Un, and himself would be joining the quest. He wouldn't let Kagome get hurt, not now that they'd formed a relationship.
By now the sun's early rays streaked the horizon, and Sesshomaru's castle could be seen a few miles off in the distance.
"We're almost there Sesshomaru." Kagome said tiredly. She wanted to sleep, but she couldn't get comfortable with the children in her arms, but whenever she tried to hand them off to Sesshomaru or Sango when she was awake, they would start to fuss, not cry, just get a little upset and start to wake up. Although the spell still kept her brother asleep, his instincts told him not to let go of the one holding him; Kagome.
"Yes we are, Lady Kagome." Miroku said. He didn't seem tired, but Kagome knew he would crash upon finding a comfortable seat when they reached the castle. She knew because she would as well.
Kagome yawned and re-shifted the children so she could sit up straighter. Sango woke up and began stroking Kirara's smooth, white mane. Kirara purred sloudly and Sango laughed, causing Shippo to shift as well.
"You're up Shippo-chan, maybe now you can go to Sango so I can relax." Kagome joked upon hearing the kitsune yawn. But, all he did was curl up more against Kagome. Kagome laughed softly and shook her head before kissing him gently on his for head.
"Kagura." Came an icy voice, sending chills down her spine. She walked into the room and stood in front of Naraku who was leaning against the wall in the back of the room. He held half of the shikon in his hand, watching as it emitted its bright pink of purity.
"Yes, Naraku?" she said, kneeling before him. Naraku turned his head to the left and watched as the pale, ghostly figure of Kanna entered the room and walked next to him.
"I want you to bring me Kikyo. Kanna, show me." Kanna lifted her mirror and an image of Kikyo cam into view.
She was sitting in a tree, her soul collectors swirling around her with their eternal glow. In this branch above her, Inu Yasha sat, holding the Tetsusaiga in his hands, staring at the sky. They both looked like they were in bad condition, and were trying to relax after a stressful event.
"Bring her to me." Kagura nodded and left, pulling a feather from her hair, it transformed and she was off.
"What now Kikyo?" Inu Yasha asked, keeping his gaze towards the sky. Kikyo chuckled, clutching her right side.
"You are a fool Inu Yasha." Kikyo had been telling him that a lot lately. She'd been thinking about her mock life, about him, and about Kagome and realized that this wasn't the way she wanted to live. She didn't want to be hated, she didn't want to love Inu Yasha, and she didn't want to live her life being dead.
She had once hated Kagome for ruining her life. For stealing every thing that she had; her soul, her powers, her right as the shikon's protectress, and her love, Inu Yasha. But then, she went off and ruined her life as well.
'None of it was mine anymore. It was my choice to die when the jewel could've been used, but I chose to wander the lands of the dead rather then the living. I had given up my soul long ago, as well as any other rights I had in my life. I don't want to this like this. I can't live a life of death.'
Recently, Kikyo had come to terms with what her life really was, and all she could think of was how wrong she had been to try and play her death off like it didn't happen, like she should still be here today, but she shouldn't be. She was dead and that was that.
"Inu Yasha," Kikyo hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words to say. "Inu Yasha, what do you think of me?" Inu Yasha jumped from his branch to her own and looked at her, taking in her very essence.
"Well, I love you." He said, frowning when she shook her head.
"Inu Yasha I'm dead, neither of us can act as if I'm alive because I'm not. I'm cold, and lifeless Inu Yasha, I'm not real at all. I can't stay here, I believe it's time for us to say goodbye." She said. Inu Yasha fiercely pilled her in for a tight embrace, which she immediately returned.
"Inu Yasha, I can't go on like this. Don't you feel bad? Don't you regret doing all those things to her? She's lost all she has, and now I see, that it was not the right thing to do to take her life from her."
Inu Yasha pulled back to look at Kikyo, disbelief was written all over his face and was clear in her eyes. Kikyo smiled and pulled him close to her once again.
"I must leave Inu Yasha, I don't know what happened to me. I thought I was happy Inu Yasha, but I'm not. This life, right now, it wasn't meant for me." She said. Tears were welling up inside her dull eyes as she clung to Inu Yasha's haori.
"Can I come with you?" he asked. Kikyo pulled back and looked up to him. She smiled sadly and shook her head.
"You weren't meant to die today Inu Yasha, but I'll be waiting for you love." Kikyo kissed Inu Yasha sweetly one last time before fading. He knew she hadn't gone yet, but she soon would.
Inu Yasha slumped to the base of the tree and went over the past few days in his mind. His eyes grew wide as he stood up. 'I was so happy with Kikyo, I forgot who my friends are, I hurt Kagome.' Inu Yasha raced into the forest towards the western lands, his brother had her, and he would get her back!
Naraku growled Kikyo wasn't supposed to do that, she was supposed to kill the hanyou. No matter, he would find her before she left to hell and she WOULD help him, or Inu Yasha would suffer!
They walked inside the castle. Shippo was perched on Kagome's shoulder while she held her brother in her arms. Kirara was in her small neko form in Sango's arms. She was tired from the trip as well.
"Jaken." Sesshomaru yelled. Sure enough, Jaken was at his feet. "Show them to their rooms, they'll be tired after the trip. Kagome, you'll come with me."
Kagome followed Sesshomaru after handing off Shippo, who was now awake, and prying Souta from her and handing him to Miroku while Sango held Shippo and Kirara.
Kagome followed Sesshomaru into a room, and sat down next to him on the bed she recognized as his. Sesshomaru wrapped his arm around Kagome and lay back onto the bed, slipping under the blankets. Kagome instantly complied, enjoying the comfort of sleep and the warmth of the taiyoukai next to her.
Sesshomaru turned onto his side and pulled her onto her side so she was facing him. He could tell she was tired, her eyelids snapped open only to drift close again. Kissing her softly on the lips, he pulled her flush against him and wrapped her in a gentle embrace. As soon as their eyes were closed, they fell sleep.
Sango shared a room with Kirara and Souta so she could watch after him while Kagome was sleeping since she was the least tired of everyone. Shippo and Miroku slept in their own rooms, and Souta would get his own when everyone was sure he was well.
The day was easily slept through, as was the night. Kagome woke up early the next morning and found Sesshomaru gone. 'He probably doesn't need that much sleep.' She thought. Kagome remembered the castle well from her last stay and easily left Sesshomaru's chambers and reached the hot springs.
After stripping from her kimono, she stepped into the warm water and quickly relaxed. Closing her eyes, she lay back against the edge. Then it hit her, Souta! Kagome hurriedly got out of the water and put on another kimono, which was strangely placed on a chair.
'Satsuka probably came in.' she thought.
Kagome was surprised to fine that unlike the rest, this one was very light. The kimono was white with gold trim and a golden obie. On the back of the kimono was a small snowflake. 'Hmm, pretty.' She thought. Then quickly raced down the hall to where her room used to be.
She found that the door to one of the rooms was open and looked inside to see her brother yawning and sitting up in the bed.
"SOUTA!" she yelled running to her brother and pulling him into a hug.
"Kagome!" Souta hugged her tighter, causing her to gasp for breath, but she didn't care. Then Sango walked in.
"Kagome-chan." She said, walking over to sit beside them on the bed. Kagome pulled away from Souta and looked at Sango. "Sango-chan, this is my little brother, Souta. Souta, this is my best friend, Sango She's like my sister, so you can trust her." Sango was taken by surprise when Souta latched onto her in a death hug.
Kagome laughed, and watched as Sango threw her arms around him.
"You remind me of my little brother Souta-chan." Kagome's smile instantly faltered at that. Sango saw this and smiled.
"It's okay Kagome-chan, Kohaku will be alright." She said. Kagome was surprised to hear her friend say that, but happy none the less.
Souta let go of Sango and hugged Kagome again. "I love you nee-chan." He said. Kagome smiled and held him tighter. "I love you too Souta." This is how Sesshomaru walked in.
He stopped at the doorway, a smile tugging at his lips. Sesshomaru cautiously approached Kagome so not to startle her, but he didn't expect her to sense him.
"Sesshomaru, this is Souta." She said, not even looking back at him. "Souta, this is Sesshomaru." Souta got up and bowed to Sesshomaru, then remembering Kagome's stories, grabbed Kagome's arms and hid behind her as she stood.
Kagome just laughed, and Sesshomaru looked proud of himself for having such an effect on people. "Souta, he won't kill you."
Sesshomaru quirked an eyebrow at her and made it look as if he were debating on whether to kill him. Kagome growled. "I'd never forgive him if he did." Sesshomaru immediately lost his expression and looked at Kagome who had just broke into a fit of laughter, and he smiled.
Sesshomaru's expression hardened after taking in a deep breath. Kagome noticed this, and became worried. "What is it Sesshomaru?"
"Inu Yasha." He growled. Kagome gasped as Sango stood up, Kirara transformed, and Souta began to shake violently. Kagome instantly held her brother. "You stay here Souta, I'll go deal with Inu Yasha with Sesshomaru." Kagome said.
"Kirara, you stay with him." Sango instructed. Kirara nodded and sat down to try and calm Souta. Everyone else left.
"Where's Miroku and Shippo?" Sango asked on the way out. Kagome shrugged and they continued to the front gates.
Sure enough, when they got there, Inu Yasha was running up the path.
"Kagome!" he yelled. Kagome scoffed and laced her fingers with Sesshomaru's, who stood proudly, starring down the hanyou.
"You bastard!" Inu Yasha yelled, lunging forward, but before Sesshomaru could react, Kagome was in front of him.
"SIT!" she yelled. "SIT SIT SIT SIT SIT! How dare you!" She walked slowly up to the crater Inu Yasha was now lying in. "What did you think you were doing? Right now, I could care less for you trading me to keep your stupid sword, but then you kidnap ,y brother and destroy my only means of transportation between here and my home so I can never see my family again, THEN you walk up and start a fight with your brother as if I won't care about any of this? What the HELL do you think you are doing?"
Everyone was stunned at Kagome's sudden outrage, but not as much as Inu Yasha, who felt like he was being slapped in the face. He went to stand, but was only forced back down by another sit command. Kagome was livid to say the least.
Inu Yasha went to stand again, this time getting all the way up and looking to Kagome. She had tears streaming down her face. His ears flattened against his skull as he watched Sesshomaru wrap his arms around Kagome. Inu Yasha felt horrible to say the. He cared so much about what Kikyo thought of him that he failed t remember who really meant something to him.
"Kagome." He whispered.
"Leave Inu Yasha. I can't deal with you right now, it hurts too much." Kagome said just loud enough for Inu Yasha to pick up. "I'll never see them again because of you." Kagome turned around in Sesshomaru's embrace and clung to his kimono, crying silently.
"Leave Inu Yasha." Sesshomaru barked. "If you refuse you'll have to answer to me."
Inu Yasha turned and walked away, with his head hung low. 'It's all my fault.' He thought. Inu Yasha stopped for a moment after he left the castle gates and sniffed the air, his eyes widening in silent fury.
"Naraku, Kikyo." He sniffed again and left towards the scent.
"If he hurts her, I'll kill him!" Inu Yasha yelled.
Everyone walked back into the castle, and into the dining room to get something to eat, and sure enough……….
"Would you care to bear me a child?" Came Miroku's innocent voice. Sango's face turned red as she took on the task of 'correcting Miroku.'
Walking in to the room, she saw him holding a young woman in his arms, completely oblivious to Sango. The girl's eyes were closed and she was smiling happily over his shoulder.
'She said yes.' Sango thought. She backed out of the room slowly and into Sesshomaru and Kagome.
"Sango, are you okay?" Kagome asked. A teary eyed Sango turned towards Kagome and shook her head before running to the direction of her room.
Kagome gasped and looked around the corner to see Miroku sitting on a chair next to the girl and talking. Kagome's earlier rage mad it easy to become angry again as she stalked up to Miroku. Sesshomaru put his hands over his ears and awaited the screaming.
Well, sorry guys had to end it there. And just because I'm not killing Kikyo, doesn't mean I can't have a little fun before sending her to hell! Muwahahaha But like I said, I have nothing against her.
Stupid Miroku shall suffer the wrath of Kagome in the next chapter. You thing he'd learn to stop after he has a girl claim she loves him, but no. He'll get what's coming to him!
