Invader Zim
Ryak’s Story
~.~
It was a cold day on the ship and my pod was was ready to be opened I was thrilled that I could fulfill a purpose an important one. I could be chosen to mate the new queen, it was going to be grand and wonderous and we would spend eternity together. Well maybe not eternity but it would be a long time. I would be important to my race, I wanted that. My dreams were crushed that day that the Queen walked onto the ship hand in hand with her mate but I wasn’t mad. I thought I would be after all I had been looking forward to it for two whole weeks since I matured. I saw them together and I couldn’t help but smile, they were a perfect match for each other. I saw the other only briefly as many Irkens pushed against me shoving me back into the crowd but then her scent washed over me. This one was not the Queens scent it was a magical scent I had never smelled before. I grinned unable to think of anything else it was like I was in a trance.
After that day I meandered around the ship until I found a Library many of the other zooters meandered too but looked past such a trove of untouched knowledge it was as though they wanted to accept their fate and die but I wanted to live. Maybe this library held the key so I began to read, absorbing everything I could. I noticed a few handmaidens show up but that magical scent escaped me. I wanted to live long enough to meet that female, whoever she was. Maybe it was destiny maybe it was fate but one dy she showed up. I was so nervous I didn’t approach the first day, or the next. It was three days before I finally snuck up to her and sat down book in hand. I couldn’t talk to her couldn’t even focus on reading. I stared at the book in front of me and pretended to read. When she turned a page I turned one too. Soon we had a bit of a rhythm and I relaxed long enough to actually read the book in my hand. It was about the PAK and it’s functions but it had never stopped a zooter from dying if he didn’t mate, it could only prolong the inevitable.
I lost hope with every page I turned. Nothing would stop my death not even the PAK. I sighed as I sat there continuing to turn pages. Soon I was lost in thought, I had stopped turning pages and had even closed the book.
“Hey,” the female beside me spoke. I looked around in surprise and then at her. “Thanks for the company. See you around, I need some sleep.”
“Yeah,” I replied. I couldn’t help but smile at her, she was so beautiful. I could see my self and her together for a long long time, if things were different. I held my smile until she was gone but my face fell as the light left me alone in that dark library of wasted hope. I looked at the book she left it was old, timeless. I opened the pages and frowned it was handwritten and most of it was difficult to read so I closed it and set it exactly where I had picked it up from. “Maybe she will come tomorrow.” I stayed and read a few more books maybe I would miss something I don’t know but I wasn’t in need of any sleep as with all Irkens I needed none but sleep was nice to have occasionally. I was deep into another book, I don’t know how many I had read but I lost track of time as a familiar scent washed over me. I tensed as she sat down.
“Hey,” she said before digging into the book she had been reading the day before. I smiled and went back to reading my own only offering a mirrored response. I thought it would be rude to not at least acknowledge her, she was pretty and I felt something when she was near. It was beautiful, magical but I don’t know what it meant I wanted to stay by her side for as long as she would allow even if my own time was so short. When she left she parted with a ‘Good Night’ and ‘see you soon’ I waited until she was gone before hunting around the ship. I found a few glittering objects that were just lying around so I picked them up. I sorted through them in my room and decided which would be the finest. When I finished sorting them I left for the library and waited for her return. When she arrived I presented the first of the fine objects to her, I couldn’t say anything as she accepted it.
I waited on bated breath as she inspected it, her eyes seemed transfixed by the object but I wasn’t sure if she like it or not.
“Thanks,” she replied smiling as gently caressed the object. I smiled feeling I could soar but also as though I were melting away. It was a strange feeling and I wanted to see her smile often at least more often then she frowned when she read. I went back to reading along side her. “So are you an invader?” I felt taken aback, I didn’t know if she was joking when she asked but the seriousness in her expression meant she didn’t know.
“No, I-I’m a… a zooter,” I replied. She didn’t seem to know what that was.
“A zooter huh? Is that a good job?” she asked. I nodded enthusiastically, to me it was the best job even if I couldn’t preform it.
“The best,” I replied. I didn’t want to ruin the moment by telling her my unfortunate fate, I just wanted to be next to her. After all if I were to die I want to die next to a beautiful swellix like her. I glanced at the book in my hand and traced the lovely winged creature within. It had a pair of wings, webbed feet, a long neck and beautiful dark blue feathers with a red crest of feathers atop it’s head.
“hmm, that almost looks like a swan, only the feathers are white and they don’t have a crest,” the female said looking over my shoulder. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks, I tried to imagine it white and smiled it would be just as stunning in white too. She turned back to her reading and I turned back to mine. If only she and I had been in a different life maybe I could live beside her forever.
We spent everyday in that library and I couldn’t help but grow closer to her it was so overwhelming to be in her presence. And I felt a little light from her scent almost as though I couldn’t live without it. Honestly what was coming over me? I had no idea, then one day after I gave her the lastest gift she pulled me along behind her. I heard voices in the library and instantly became aware that maybe she wasn’t supposed to be here. They were searching for a hyuman whatever that was.
“Come on,” she urged tugging me into the hidden spot of the wall. I hadn’t even known it was there, until she pulled me to her and closed the space. It was a tight fit my nose was pressed against her belly and her chest rested on my head, the scent was so intense I thought I would pass out from lack of oxygen. The voices passed close to our hiding spot and stayed. I held my breath and I knew she was holding hers. They left and she tugged me down the secret passage, all the way to the Queens own cloistral chamber. She stopped just inside and turned to me. “Listen, if I don’t show up at the library this is where I’ll be. I can’t let those goons catch me outside of here, so keep this a secret okay?”
I nodded eagerly, after all what I had to lose was more than anything they could take from me. If they took her away I would have no one. It was a few days she stayed in the cloistral chamber so I went to her everyday to present one of the gifts I had found and her reactions made my heart rocket off into space each time. But my time was swiftly coming and this day the sadness that I would leave her one day soon was overwhelming I didn’t even wait to see her response as I gave her this gift, I left so she wouldn’t see my eyes swell with goo. I couldn’t tell her that we wouldn’t be together forever, I couldn’t put my problems on such a beautiful swellix.. no swan. She is my swan, my heart. I can’t let her be unhappy because of me. I went back to the library and let my eyes swell with goo, she wouldn’t come today it was too risky, the guards were out in force maybe they weren’t in the library but they were roaming the ship. I didn’t want to feel this way but I couldn’t help it.
Placing the pen down he stared at the pages agony filling him as he thought about how long he had left the book to his right had told him how long he had to live and he could feel it he was slipping away little by little and his body knew what his mind wanted to erase forever at least now his story would be immortalized but he still had one thing to do. He grit his teeth and began to draw the beautiful bird in the book he had read a while ago. Only he drew it a little differently. He drew it without the crest and did not even bother to do much shading of the beautiful bird and fore long he had a poorly draw swan on the inside of his journal a testament to his devotion. He named it Miswa a name of beauty and grace. He closed it and picked up the book to read further trying to clear the goo swollen eyes long enough to read. He wanted to know more so he could forget about it and spend the rest of his days just keeping the lovely swan company. A book slammed down beside him and the voice of a very familiar female rang in his ears.
