The Choosing of Others

  In the vastness of space, a dimensional pocket opened up. It acted as a window to another world, where a being cloaked in darkness was watching away. The shape of the being made it out to be a woman, but she was giving off an aura of such darkness and malice that it was indescribable. She was now staring at a view of Sora and Ariel, a cold smile on her face.   “It’s a pity he is so young.” she started to say. “If he was older, no doubt he would have made a decent subordinate. Oh well.” The being seemed to know a great deal about Sora, how much… no one knew. Her eyes shifted over to Ariel, and it seemed that the woman was measuring her up. “The girl possesses great strength in mind and spirit, but the body leaves something to be desired. Perhaps with time, she will do.”   The woman turned her back to the dimensional pocket and gazed upon what would be a very bizarre sight for anyone else. In the middle of the room, bathed in a single spot of bright light, was a familiar shark. It was not thrashing about, rather it was sleeping. It was sedated, but still alive. Surprisingly, Shadow Heartless and Nobody Dusks were surrounding it in a large circle. They were trembling as if in anticipation.   The woman smiled wickedly and stated “Go ahead, creatures of darkness. Claim this vessel, but do so together. For once your essences and abilities are combined, you will be more formidable then ever.” It was after that last sentence was complete the chaos started, the Heartless and Nobodies jumping as one onto the shark.   The woman walked away, smirking as she watched the transformation take place. “Now to wait for the right moment, to test this young boy’s abilities. If he proves worthy, I will gather more followers who will be more then eager to gain power.” she said to herself before vanishing into the darkness.   ~Back at Ariel’s world~   Sora was enjoying some swimming time with Ariel near the Sunken Ship area, riding on some dolphins and doing acrobatic tricks. The mermaid was more adapt to swimming then Sora, so she gave her friend some pointers here and there. The wielder of the Keyblade was enjoying this ‘vacation’ of his so far. Flounder was near as always, encouraging Sora to play “Tag” with him. Sebastian floated by and just observed the play.   “Ariel, this is just great!” Sora exclaimed after performing three loop-de-loops. “Man, I never knew that being in the water was this much fun!” He swam around fast, just enjoying the thrill of being able to go so fast and doing stuff he couldn’t do on the surface. He was quick yes, but only with the help of the magical clothes the three Good Faries gave him.   Ariel giggled at his childish antics. ‘He’s like me; a teenager in age but a child at heart. Ready and willing to do something new.’ she thought. Earlier on, Sora had finished his tale on Wonderland and was now in the middle of his story on how he and his friends entered the Preliminary rounds at the Olympus Coliseum and defeated Cloud. The mermaid was impressed on Sora’s ability to fight.   The redhaired beauty asked Sora if he could reveal his Keyblade, but the young man said that it would only come out unless there was danger nearby from either Heartless or Nobody. “Besides, we defeated Xemnas. I doubt that there are any Nobodies or Heartless left.” he finished saying. Let it be said that when someone says a line like that, always be prepared to expect the unexpected.   Just as Ariel and Sora got close enough together, a strange thing happened. A black mist fog suddenly surrounded the merpeople and their sea friends! Sora reacted on instinct and held out his hands. His Keyblade appeared in it, and it was the Kingdom key. Ariel kept looking around, trying to find out on where that fog came from.   From the mist came a cold voice “Hello, Chosen One. It seems that you are confused and wish to know who I am. Sadly, you will not live to find out. If you survive, well… you are more interesting then I thought.” The voice was gone and the fog was started to dissipate. However, the sight that beheld them wished that the fog would come and swallow the thing back up.   It was the shark, but it was different. Its skin was a shiny silver, with pulsing black veins that ran all around its body. Its eyes were golden yellow, and its tail was replaced by a whiplash-like appendage. Its teeth were now laser-sharp, like it could rip through anything. The fins were replaced by quivering black hands, large enough to crush a boulder. The most shocking discovery, for Sora at least, was on its back was a crest. However, this was not the crest of a Heartless or a Nobody. It was a combination of both!   “Ariel, scatter!” Sora exclaimed. As soon as the words left his lips, the shark attacked! Luckily, Sora and the adventurous mermaid were quick on their fins. They managed to avoid its lethal bite, but the big brute took off after Sora. The warrior started to smack at the creature’s nose with his weapon, and it seemed to have a bit of an effect on it. ‘Least I know that it can be hurt by the Keyblade.’ he thought.   Ariel was simply shocked and horrified by the creature. It was scary enough as a normal shark, but now it seemed that it was a true abomination. A frightening monster. The mermaid saw it only going after Sora and knew that he needed her help. “I hope I still got what it takes!” she whispered to herself as she dived into danger. She decided that keeping a distance would be best and used a Thunder Potion on the beast. What happened next surprised them both; the shark just slithered out of the way of the blast, like a serpent!   ‘Just like a Dusk!’ Sora thought as the shark resumed its attack. Sora was on the defensive, swimming away and smacking the monster (we’ll call it Brutus) on the snout when given the chance. Ariel kept on attacking with Thunder Potion and Spiral Wave, but Brutus just seemed to dodge the lighting with ease and her physical attack seemed to be ineffective. The only thing she could do was keeping Sora alive and using Cure Potion on him.   “Ariel, this isn’t working! My Keyblade’s not strong enough to take this thing on!” Sora exclaimed as they were backed into a corner. Brutus was slowly gliding towards them, flexing its arms and teeth flashing brightly. It was ready to just tear the two apart. Sora gritted his teeth and wished that he had another Keyblade with him. Then, something happened!   Ariel felt something course through her body, a feeling that was alien yet pleasant. She felt the water in front of her bend and waver, and on instinct she reached out. Appearing in her right hand was a Keyblade, the Crabclaw to be exact! Sora and the mermaid were just astounded by the event, as was Brutus. Ariel examined the beautiful piece of work, wondering on why this had happened.   The shock wore off on the Heartless/Nobody combo, and it attacked! Sora went up to meet it head on, and so did Ariel. The two raised their Keyblades in sync and slammed them down hard on the Brutus’s snout, causing the monster to back off and roar in pain. Ariel and Sora took a moment to examine the beast and found that the weakness was in its gills. Nodding to one another, they each took a gill and started to hack away!   Brutus roared in pain from the double attack and swam away, but the duo were hot on his tail. They kept slashing away at its vulnerable points, dodging now and then from its swinging arms, whiplike tail, and teeth. After fifteen minutes of attacking, and whittling down its health, Ariel and Sora decided to finish it. “Ariel, you with me?” Sora asked as he extended a hand out to her.   Ariel took it without question and replied “Yes I am!” The two held hands and started to twirl their Keyblades around, creating a whirlpool vortex! Brutus was caught directly in the middle of the whirlpool and tried to escape. Alas, it could not and was starting to get ripped up by the attack. Wisps of silver and black started to leave from its body. The two merfolk kept this up for a few minutes, then swam right into the whirlpool! They were propelled forward towards Brutus, fast and hard.   “TAKE THIS!!!” Sora and Ariel exclaimed together as they executed a sliding dash attack, extending their Keyblades out and slashing at the shark from the sides. Sora cut on its left, Ariel on its right. The whirlpool stopped and the two just floated where they were, still poised in their attack. The shark roared and withered in agony, then started to dissolve in an array of silver and black light. A massive heart floated up and away just before the poor creature roared its last and was nothing more.   Sora and Ariel turned to see the monster no more and breathed a sigh of relief. It only lasted a moment until both of them latched their eyes on the Crabclaw. The mermaid was just stunned that the Keyblade appeared in her hands like it did, and Sora was wondering if another wielder had appeared. Sebastian and Flounder appeared out of their hiding places below and swam up to them.   Flounder exclaimed “Ariel, that was amazing! You and Sora were just awesome!” Sebastian however did not show any kind of enthusiaism, just panicking. “Ariel, we need to tell the king about this!” he proclaimed. The crab knew that Triton was not going to like this turn of events, especially since Ariel was now wielding a Keyblade.   Sora was wondering ‘What’s going on? Heartless and Nobodies fusing as one? And who was that voice just now? Could it be we missed someone in Organization 13?’ Well, one thing was for sure though. Ariel had just revealed herself to be a Keyblade wielder like him, and her father was NOT going to like this one bit.   The mermaid looked at Sora and said “Come on, Sora. We need to tell Daddy about this. I’m sure he’ll be mad, but he needs to know about this new enemy we’re dealing with.” The young merboy nodded his head in agreement and the two took off back to the palace, the yellow fish and red crab not far behind.   ~At Disney Castle~   King Mickey, Queen Minnie, Lady Daisy, and Merlin were waiting in the Audience Chamber for their guests to arrive. After waiting for a few moments, the doors opened and in stepped Donald, Goofy, Riku, and Kairi. The king and the wizard were surprised to see that Sora was not with them. “Hi, everyone. Thanks for coming on such short notice.” King Mickey stated.   Queen Minnie looked around and inquired “Where’s Sora?” Riku and Kairi’s faces took on a sad expression, which caused the group to worry. “I say, is he here with you? Is he still on Destiny Island?” Merlin asked. Riku shook his head as did Kairi.   “Some things happened and now… he’s gone.” Riku answered. This caused all of them minus Kairi to gasp in surprise. “He said he went on vacation. We don’t know where he is.” the human girl added. King Mickey saw the Oathkeeper charm around Riku’s neck and put two and two together.   “I see. Well, we need to find him right away. We need his help in battling our new enemy.” the ruler of Disney Castle said. Merlin put in “We have news here you all must hear.” A large round table materialized in the middle of the room and everyone took a seat. The wizard took out his wand and replayed the events he witnessed at Radiant Gardens.   ~At his house~   Yuffie, Leon, Aerith, Cid, and Merlin were sitting around the newly made office of the Radiant Gardens Watchers Committee. The town was almost fully restored and now they had changed from restoration to being a police force of some kind. The five members were discussing on what to do to upgrade the defense system when the door was knocked clean open. What they saw next caused them to go into shock.   It was Pete and Maleficent! Leon and Yuffie took up their weapons, ready to fight. But Aerith stopped them, saying to take a good look. Pete was panting hard, and on his right arm hung the evil witch. It looked like they had been in a huge fight and barely escaped with their lives. Pete staggered in, weary and tired from fighting and carrying Maleficent.   “What happened to you two?” Leon asked, still wary of the two. Pete gently set Maleficent on a nearby chair and sagged into one himself. “We were… ambushed by… a powerful… witch. Don’t know… how she… got into… our castle.” Pete panted out.   Yuffie inquired “Wait! You’re saying that you two got beat up by single person?” The Gullwings flew in, seeing the sight and wanting to know what was going on. Pete said that this single witch was able to control the Heartless AND the Nobodies. “This girl even took control of the Heartless Maleficent was controlling! We escaped from Kingdom Hearts, but just barely.”   “What did she want? Did she tell you?” Aerith asked. Maleficent was able to use the last of her strength to answer her question. “She said… she needed… a successor.” she breathed out before passing out from exhaustion. Yuffie and the rest were now pondering on this new enemy. Few people could take out Maleficent like this, and all of Organization 13 was gone.   “What was her name?” Merlin asked. Pete answered “She called herself Adel.”   “Merlin, go and inform the king of what is happening. Also, try to get Sora back here as well. We’re going to need him once again.” Leon stated firmly. He knew that this was going to get intense soon. The Gullwings took Maleficent and Pete to their secret hideout to recover.   Cid got up and worked extensively on the computer, alerting Tron about the danger and wanting an upgrade in all areas as quick as possible. Yuffie and Aerith went out to make sure the town was okay. Leon went to the castle’s archives to look up anything on this new witch.   ~End of show~   Everyone was just shocked on what they saw. Riku knew that Maleficent and Pete were no pushovers together, and it looked like they got their butts handed to them. Kairi was worried about this, concerned that Riku and Sora were in a bit over their heads if they took up the challenge.   “Your Majesty, we’ll do what we can to help. But until then, we need to find Sora and let him know of what’s taking place.” Riku stated. The king agreed with him and told his loyal friends to inform Chip and Dale to get ready for Gummi travel. The duck and dog left in a hurry to do what Mickey asked.   “Riku, do you have any idea where Sora might be?” Queen Minnie asked. Riku shook his head, but promised to do what he could to find him. Kairi did the same. Riku extended his hand out to call his Keyblade the Soul Eater, but nothing happened. He tried again, but still no response.   “My Keyblade! I can’t call it anymore!” Riku exclaimed in shock. Everyone in the room was now staring in shock. King Mickey tried to summon his Dreamkey Keyblade, and succeeded. Now the shock turned to puzzlement. Why was it that Riku could not summon the Keyblade?   “It seems that this is taking a turn for the worse. Now we got to find Sora!” Merlin stated before vanishing in a puff of smoke. Queen Minnie bid her love farewell, wishing for a safe return. Mickey promised to return to her, no matter what. Kairi looked at the couple, and could swear that once upon a time… she and Sora made the same promise. Donald and Goofy came back in, reporting that the Gummi Ship was ready to go. Mickey, Riku, Kairi, and the two soldiers went on their way to the garage. Lady Daisy bid her boyfriend farewell, hoping that he’d return safe and sound.   ~At Kingdom Hearts~   Adel sat in the darkness on a white throne, which had a few modifications to it. It was in the shape of the combination Heartless/Nobody crest. She had seen the battle between her monster and the two Keyblade holders, slightly surprised to see the mermaid summon a Keyblade of her own. This intrigued her.   “That girl may prove to be a worth successor, with the right battle training. And this Sora… he is stronger then I gave him credit for. I will not make the same mistake twice.” she said to herself. She looked up the information in the Hearts Archive and read the history of Sora. She could now see why the Keyblade chose him.   “Nevertheless, I will find my successor! And as a bonus, I will also try to claim the One Keyblade.” Adel whispered. She had heard the legends of this powerful weapon, a Keyblade that was forged eons ago and held powers that were beyond both Light and Darkness. Such a weapon was meant to be wielded by the most powerful and she decided that it should belong to herself.   “Minons!” she declared and in a few seconds, she was surrounded by fused Heartless Shadows and Dusk Nobodies. She decided to call these creatures Melders. “Go forth and find me the One Keyblade. Find it, and bring it to me.” The Melders disappeared into the ground like Shadow Heartless. Adel was smiling cruelly as she saw Sora and Ariel talking with King Triton.   “Interesting, indeed.”   (Author’s Notes: Well, we hope you all like this one. This is our first time making a fanfic like this, so please be gentle.   Darien: Like we said, we thank SMG a.k.a Trunks’ Girl 787 for everything! The villains were her idea, and more of her ideas are about to come forth soon! Without her, this would have never gotten off the ground.   DJ: So, do any of you have an idea why Ariel has a Keyblade and Riku lost the ability to summon his?
