Chapter Five: You Need to Know…

Sora had been hanging around the library for about two weeks now, helping Riku out with whatever needed to be done. And even though Riku complained about him showing up at odd hours, he actually loved the company. Although it did make him wonder why Sora only came by at night, but he just chalked that up to him being shy.

At the moment Riku was looking for another book to read, having finished his novel only yesterday. And of course, Sora was following him like a lost puppy, asking questions all the while. “Hey Riku?” “What?” Riku asked, scanning the row of books for one he hadn't read yet. “We're friends right?” “Yeah I guess.” He said, crouching down to check the next row. “And you can keep a secret right?” Found it. Riku thought, reaching out to grab the book from the row. “Huh? Oh yeah.” He pulled the book out and turned to look at Sora.

“Okay, so, um…” Riku shot Sora a look that basically said `get on with it already.' “You promise you won't tell anyone?” “I promise.” “Cross you heart and hope to die?” “Yeah, yeah. Now would you please just tell me already?” “I'm a vampire.” He said in that quiet voice.

“Sora, you know I can't hear you when you talk like that.” “I'm a vampire.” Sora said a bit more loudly, looking at his shoes. Riku was silent for a moment before he began to laugh. “You're kidding right? Everyone knows vampires aren't real.” “Riku, I'm not kidding! Why would I kid about something like this? Didn't you ever wonder why I only show up at night?”

It was obvious that Sora was getting stressed out over this. Riku walked over to him and half-hugged him. “I honestly thought it was because you were shy. Sora, don't get so worked up about this. I mean it's not like you're really-”

“Shut up!” Sora yelled, running away from him. “Sora, come back!” Riku called after him. “Leave me alone!” before Riku could catch up with him he was gone. “How does he do that?” he muttered to himself as he headed outside. He couldn't have gotten too far…

Sora wasn't looking where he was going, mostly because his eyes were closed but also because he didn't care. Tears formed in his eyes only to fly behind him. He doesn't believe me…was all he thought before he turned down an alleyway. Sora opened his eyes to see three guys playing dice in the alley.

One of them turned and grinned. “Well look here boys, it seems this little boy is lost.” The other two chuckled stupidly. “Are you lost little boy?” one of the other two said; he had his hair in a buzz cut. “Maybe he wants his mommy.” The other one said; this one had a nose ring and numerous piercings elsewhere.

“Don't worry, we'll help you…for a fee.” The two men laughed as their boss said `fee'. Sora growled. He didn't want to deal with this right now. He turned to run but the one with the buzz cut grabbed his arm and pulled him close. “Where ya going? The fun's just getting started.”

“Get away from me.” Sora said, his voice had turned deadly and cold. “Aw, are you shy? That won't last long.” Buzz Cut turned Sora's head for a kiss and he gave him one. Though not exactly the kiss he wanted. The other two just watched in shock as Sora drained the guy dry, Buzz Cut trying vainly to push Sora away from his neck.

Once he was done, he pushed Buzz Cut away from him, his blood all over his mouth. Sora growled again and the other two looked afraid. “You ain't human…” Piercing mumbled before trying to run. Sora caught him before he could and drained him just as savagely as the first.

“Only one left…” Sora said, growling as he approached the `boss'. “No! I'll give you anything money, guns, drugs, you name it!” “Do you want to know what I want?” Sora asked, grabbing the man by the neck and lifting him up.” “What? Name it and I'll get it for you.”

Sora chuckled darkly. “I want…your blood.” The man's mouth opened in a silent scream as Sora drank his blood. He tossed the man down on the ground, chuckling again as he heard his head hit the pavement. “Sora?” he turned at the sound of his name to see Riku.

Riku couldn't believe what he saw. Sora's mouth was smeared with blood and his shirt was drenched in it also. “You're a…” he couldn't even finish his sentence; horrified that Sora had told the truth. Sora looked like himself again as he wiped the blood from his face and stared at it. “I…” he looked at Riku again. “Riku…” Sora took a step toward him and Riku took one back.

“Stay away from me you blood-sucking freak!” Riku screamed at him. “Riku, I didn't want you to see this, I-” “No, just shut up! Shut up and leave me alone!” Riku turned and ran, trying to block out Sora's cries for him to come back. Sora walked out of the alley and slumped against the wall. “Riku why didn't you believe me before…?” Sora closed his eyes and wished for the sun to burn him up.
