------------------

<Damn! Those guys are really getting out of hand.> A young boy thought to himself as he watched a pack of older boys gang up on a pair of smaller boys who had no other choice but to hand over their money to the bullies.

The young boy wanted to go over there and beat the tar out of them but he knew that this wasn't a fight he could win easily. He sighed and went back into the forest and made his way to a nearby clearing.

Rayne sighed as he settled back into his make shift shelter in the clearing near a nearby waterfall. He didn't like bullies and wanted to trash them badly, but he knew better. His skills, though were deadly, he still didn't complete the training of his mother and father, and his aunts and uncles. His body was in good condition, but the trip through dimensions and time compression had eroded some of his motor skills, and his physical combat skills were not the way they were back then, and his magical skills were still unfocused and needed time to adapt. And he needed training in order to summon his GFs once more.

<I guess that Grandma was right, I will have to relearn all that I learned before.>

Rayne sighed as he watched the day slowly turn into night; he took out some meat and bread from his ration pack and had his dinner. His world's currency Gil, in truth were large gold coins, and that allowed him to purchase extra supplies, but that was another reason that the bullies were getting even more abusive, they heard of him, and had even been looking for him, trying to get a score.

He knew that tomorrow will be a real challenge, as he went to sleep.

-------------------

Unknown to the young Leonhart, there was someone already with him and was watching him with keen interest. The young elf named Celecia watched as the young human went to sleep. Normally, her kind never associated themselves with other races, humans being one of them. But something about this child got the young elf girl curious, she had been told by the tree spirits that a strange boy had appeared in the woods. She decided to spent some time with this human and see what he would do. Plus, her magical senses were in somewhat erratic to the aura the boy was releasing. Whoever this boy was, his magical aura was…exceptional!

-------------------

The next day…

Rayne nodded as he checked the special targets that he fashioned from stone and wood. The targets were designed to test his skills with blocking and attacking, and most of all make him even stronger in terms of physical power and endurance. He had already finished his weight training exercises, (beginner level) and did some long stretching exercises as well, using some of the exercise gear his grandmother had brought for him.

The targets were fashioned like human targets and the wood was designed to work with special mechanisms that allowed them to move forward and attack with their wooden arms. (*)

Rayne knew that this was going to be painful, but he had to do it.

-------------------

WHAP!

“ARGH!”

BAM!

“AUGH!”

SLAP!

“OUCH!”

SPLAT!

“OW!”

Rayne moaned in pain as he was covered with a large amount of bruises and some cuts as he got out of the gauntlet of stone warriors he made. He expected the pain, but even it was a real bashing once he went to work. He sighed as he went back and reset the system.

Celecia giggled as she watched the young human once more set the strange stone men back into position and he took a little rest and some water from the pond. Humans always did strange things, but this little boy took the cake. She looked as the boy went back into the gauntlet of stone men.

<Is he serious?>

WHAP!

“OUCH!”

<I guess he is.>

SLAM!

Celecia winched at the sound. <Is he crazy?>

WHAP!

<That means he is.>

SLAM!

<Is he trying to kill himself?>

Celecia sighed and decided to leave the boy to his insanity, she hoped to see him use his magical powers, but she was mistaken. Had she stayed however, she would have seen something extraordinary.

Rayne looked as his body still ached as two more stone men came at him. He looked and felt power surge into him, he felt his inner power flow into him. He then unleashed a powerful punch into one and followed with a fierce roundhouse kick to the other. The first suffered severe cracks and broke into pieces, and the other one had a caved in side and crumbled into two halves.

Rayne nodded as he cast a Regen spell, making his cuts and bruises disappear. His trials had allowed him to use the innate magical energy in him flow and boost his attacks, and his own physical strength was boosted, along with his endurance, as the blows didn't register too much pain.

-------------------

The next month…

Rayne nodded as he gazed at the crude replica of his gunblade the Lionheart. The wooden weapon was quite light, but he needed it to do the battle katas of the gunblade arts. He moved the weapon around and went into several battle stances which worked with the weapon wielded by his father. He didn't have the stamina and strength to wield the Lionheart just yet, so he intended to work first with his stamina, and then his strength. Currently he was sweating to the point that he would have passed off as a fountain.

Celecia looked on as the young boy swung that strange weapon in his hand in some strange battle moves that resembled none of the fighting arts with the sword that she was familiar with. Once in a while he would accidentally get hit by his weapon, and that made her laugh silently as the boy went on without pause.

< He looks like a spring.>

Celecia sighed and went away.

-------------------

A month later…

Rayne worked once more with the wooded gunblade, but this time he tied weights on his arms. The weights were special weights that could change their settings from one pound to two hundred pounds maximum, that gave Rayne the training advantage as he was able to slowly add extra weight. This naturally made him swing and slash slowly as he continued to sweat harder.

Celecia sighed with a smile as the strange youth went back to the exercises, with the strange wooden blade, but now he had weights on his arms that made him sweat even more. The amusement wore off as she decided that she needed to do things first.

-------------------

One month later…

Rayne nodded as he placed the new weights on his legs, as well as his arms. He then decided to get to work as he went into several dashes as he went into attacking several wooden boards with his wooden gunblade, and naturally, he was tripped on many occasions, but he still went at it.

Celecia sighed with a smirk as the strange boy still went at it, this time with weights on both arms and legs, he was going to collapse at this rate due to exhaustion.

SLAM!

Sure enough, he did.

-------------------

A month later…

Rayne nodded as he went with his next practice. He didn't use his wooden gunblade now, but picked up the Lionheart instead. The weapon still had some weight, but after all the training in boosting his stamina and strength, he didn't have the problem of wielding the shimmering weapon, and he smiled as he went on with his katas.

Celecia became very intrigued as she looked at the new weapon in the boy's hands. Though it was bigger and longer than any sword the elf was familiar with, the boy could carry it with ease as he went into several katas. The blade was almost transparent like glass, but it glowed a deep blue, and the handle was made from silvery metal with a strange roaring beast carved into both the hilt and blade.

She wondered what it was as her interest in the boy grew.

-------------------

Four months later…

Rayne went to work as he went into several gymnastic maneuvers as he went through each bar that he set up and also with the other obstacles he made along the way. This allowed him to work on coordination and flexibility.

Celecia smiled as she watched the boy go at it, at least here, this made sense.

-------------------

A month later…

Celecia watched in surprise as the youth strapped more of the strange weights on his shoulders, arms, and legs, he ran into forest with some speed as the weights were weighing him down. He then made his way to several deep gorges and ravines.

<Is he trying to fall?>

SLAM!

<I guess so.>

Celecia was about to rescue the foolish youth when she spotted him climbing up the ravine with the weights still on him as he kept running.

Celecia grew a sweatdrop.

-------------------

Two months later…

Rayne smiled as he removed the weights on his back, arms, and legs. He had been at this kind of training for a long time, he came up with the idea of this exercise as he recalled uncle Zell's ultimate Limit Break, so he decided to give it a shot. Plus he also decided to really work on the obstacle course, making it more and more challenging.

He then sensed the presence of someone or something in the area near him, he had been feeling it lately as he developed his innate magical talents along with the rest of what he learned from his parents, and relatives, and he could tell that there was mystic energy on this person too. He let it pass as he sensed no evil intention in it either.

He looked at the large chasm in front of him and before the chasm was his training gym, all the bars, edges, tables, and beams. He then went into a gymnastic routine that seemed impossible as he flipped, somersaulted and dodged in various angle, and to finish it off he reached the last obstacle and leaped into the air, passing the chasm without making a mistake, in speed and posture. He then leaped back to the other end and grabbed on the bar and landed on his feet. His skills and maneuvers were getting even more impressive by the months and his physical abilities were now in par with the best of his own world as his blood allowed him to adapt quickly.

Celecia's mouth dropped open at the sight she had seen.

<Since when did humans learn to fly and move like the wind?> She was even more intrigued by the fact that he was not using any magical spells.

-------------------

One month later…

Rayne smiled as he practiced with the Lionheart once more, and now he wanted to do the signature attack of his father…. He faced a massive boulder and focused his power into the attack, and some of the mystic energy that defined the Limit Break.

He dashed and named out the attack

“RENZOKUKEN!”

The attack was devastating as Rayne swung the weapon, slashing and cutting into the boulder, he caused extra explosions with every pull of the gunblade's trigger, and finished it with the specially Junctioned Ultima spell.

Rayne leaped back and nodded as he watched the boulder break into pieces.

Celecia was in awe at that sight.

-------------------

Two months later…

Rayne smiled as he went into action with the gauntlet of stone men once more, this time using both his fists and the Lionheart, he slammed his fists and kicks into the stone targets, along with the gunblade. Stone after stone figure was cut down, until he faced the newly added bonus to his gauntlet, a massive boulder. He went to it as he unleashed another Renzoukuken, but with a plus.

“RENZOKUKEN!”

After the first attack… he leaped back and charged his energy once more.

“ROUGH DIVIDE!”

Rayne rocketed upward, cutting the boulder cleanly into two, and unleashing a massive wave of power that slammed into the boulder and tore into it like a beast's fangs and claws.

Celecia watched with surprise.

-------------------

Celecia was busy gathering several bushels of wild herbs, when she detected a massive amount of pure energy near a clearing, when several trees fell in unison like hewn wheat, she suspected that the young boy she was watching was responsible.

-------------------

Rayne nodded as he looked at the trees that he cleanly swiped with the next Limit Break attack named `Fated Circle'. The technique was somewhat taxing as he needed a little time to handle the move, but he knew that the last remaining techniques needed more time and training, so he needed time to recover, and that meant that he needed to practice his magical skills

-------------------

Two months later…

Rayne smiled as he watched his handiwork. He had spent a lot of his time in commanding his magical skills, mastering his magical skills of Fire, Thunder, Air, Earth, Water, Holy power, and other more elemental and archaic magicks, such as Healing, Poison, Death, and many more. Though he loved to use magic, it was taxing, so he made special compromises, until his skills with magic became even better. His Sorceress's blood made that possible as well.

Celecia was impressed as the boy continued with his practices in magic, and he wasn't using any mediums to do that. She recalled that humans needed wands and other items to focus their powers, but this boy didn't need any.

-------------------

A month later…

Rayne smiled as he went back into his training, with the newly modified gauntlet with special additions. The gymnastic bars and obstacles were there, the stone men were in larger numbers and there were boulders as well. He went through it all, using his martial arts skills, gunblade fighting skills, magic, and his gymnastic skills. As he reached the boulders and extra stone men, he got into position and used another Limit Break.

“BLAST ZONE!”

He lifted the gunblade and out came a massive pillar of light, that reached the sky and he slammed the pillar right into the targets, smashing them into pieces.

Celecia gaped in shock at that sight.

-------------------

Three months later…

Rayne smiled as he was now able to summon several GFs, namely Shiva, Ifrit, Quetzalcoatl, and Siren. He needed a little more time to summon the others, but time will be available, and the others will be ready.

Celecia was impressed, watching the young boy summon such powerful beasts into combat. She had seen the fire beast call upon a massive meteor of fire from the ground and slamming it on more of the stone men, melting them into liquid stone. She then saw that blue woman made of ice create a freezing blast that covered it's targets and shattered them. The lighting creature created a thunderstorm that defeated any natural storm the elf had seen in her years, turning it's targets into cinders. The last creature made a song so powerful and melodious that she nearly lost her focus on her concealing spell, and she could tell that the numerous beasts were in awe of the song as well.

This boy was VERY interesting!!

-------------------

After four months…

Rayne smiled as he focused his powers and went to work in the final and the most dangerous gauntlet of his design. The stone men were six times in number, the obstacles were in greater numbers, and the boulders were in greater numbers as well, along with many traps and more besides.

“Three…Two…One…Zero!”

Rayne dashed into the gauntlet and went to work, cutting down target after target with his gunblade, smashing and cutting down target after target with his modified fighting style in the martial arts, he dodged the arrows, darts and pitfalls with ease, thanks to his extensive gymnastic training. Once he reached the boulders and the far larger stone men, he began casting his spells, and summoning his current battle class GFs into the fray. He reached the remaining boulders and unleashed his Limit Breaks…

Until he reached a boulder that was twenty times larger than the others, he had been rather exhausted, but now came the moment of truth…

“ULTIMATE LIMIT BREAK……..LIONHEART!”

Rayne dashed in and sent the boulder into the sky, he followed it and unleashed the full power and fury of both the gunblade and the full power in his body and magical reserves. He slashed the boulder with fifteen instant killing blows, each time deadly explosions came to be with every blow, until Rayne gathered a vast amount of pure spiritual power and mystic energy and finished with one devastating slash that sent out a blast of pure white light, as he landed on his feet, the boulder turned into chunks, both large small and dust particles as it slammed to the ground and shattered behind him.

“Oh yeah! Rayne Leonhart is back in the game!” Rayne cheered as he finally accomplished the Ultimate Limit Break in his family. He had worked hard for two years, but now he had succeeded in regaining his battle skills in a short time, he knew that his dad would still be training, though for now, no Sorceress was to be chosen, and so would his mother, and the rest of his family, he hoped to finish this quest he was in, and could visit his parents soon.

He nodded as he decided to pack it up, he had a world to explore and now was the time.

Celecia was really impressed, over the past two years, the strange human had learned to unleash such powerful blows and magical skills, immense physical abilities, summon great mystic beings, in a span of time that was extraordinary.

-------------------

A day later…

Rayne smiled as he placed his gunblade in a special sheath that made it look small, and took his supplies of food, coin, and clothes. His grandmother had allowed him to bring some extra clothes through her magic, and her gift of a special battle pack allowed him to store plenty of items.

He smiled as he left the forest and made his way to a nearby village. Namely the one where the bullies were, and besides, some extra supplies could be helpful, plus tools. He had to stop them now, but he wasn't going to kill them.

Celecia sighed as she watched the young boy leave his grounds for what appeared to be the end of what appeared to be a strange, amusing, and astonishing training regime. She had never been so entertained in her life. Being granted the gift of long life could make one bored easily, and now she was going to watch the extraordinary boy leave for the final time. She sighed once more and prayed that maybe…just maybe, she'll see the young boy again.

-------------------

At the village…

“Hello…check it out guys. It's a new kid!” The leader of that pack of bullies said as he and his cronies spotted Rayne.

“Hey you!”

Rayne turned and spotted the punks as they made their way to him. He smiled to himself as the sheath where the Lionheart was made the gunblade appear to be small, so the bullies weren't aware of the weapon's presence.

He looked at the leader and asked without concern. “What do you want?”

The leader smirked as he and his posse made their way to the lad, as he and his gang took out weapons, such as clubs and small knives.

“You look like you could have money…give it to us nicely and we'll leave you alone. Or we'll just have to take it all.”

Rayne smirked a little and placed down his bag and beckoned the punks with a finger. “You want money? Then try and get it.”

The bullies laughed. What could this little kid so to them anyway? They planned to overwhelm Rayne with sheer numbers as they attacked, their leader merely looking on with a big smile on his face.

That smiled was replaced with shock as Rayne leaped over his cronies and seemed to merely hover over them.

“WHAT?! HE CAN FLY?!”

Rayne merely smirked. “A little. Get ready, because playtime is over!”

Rayne landed into the pack and slammed a punch into the gut of one bully, and that knocked the boy flat. He dodged a swing from another and responded with a power punch to the chest and a kick to the temple, knocking the idiot flat. He knocked another attacker off his feet with a sweep kick, and slammed his elbow into the gut of another attacker. The last two tried to use their clubs, but they were shocked as Rayne merely kicked the wooden weapons, making them splinter into pieces, and they were out cold as Rayne slammed a split kick to both their faces.

As that was over, the leader sweated as his buddies were easily defeated by an unarmed boy, he began to sweat bullets as Rayne made his way to him, he then took out a massive bar of pure iron which was three feet in length and got ready.

Rayne replied as he decided to show his own weapon. He reached for his back and pulled out the Lionheart.

The leader was wetting in his pants and sweating lead as he spotted the boy pull out a shimmering blue blade that was rather large, but this kid was able to wield it easily.

Rayne wasted no time and dashed towards his target and then with several quick motions, cut the iron bar without any difficulty, and then perched his weapon's tip near the neck of the older boy, and with that he slammed a fist, knocking the leader out like a light and sent him a good three meters away, and slamming into the ground.

The other bullies were terrified as they witnessed the whole thing, and were shitting their pants as Rayne faced them with his gunblade on his shoulder.

“Now, if I were to recall, you all said something about money?”

The bullies wasted no time as they dug into their pockets and fished out coins.

“You want money?”

“Here! Take all of it!” The bullies said as they rushed to their fallen boss and high-tailed it out of there.

-------------------

Rayne smiled as he checked his supplies, after returning the cash to the people that were attacked by the bullies, he used the remaining coins to purchase supplies and tools. The village gossip vine had already been abuzz with what happened to the bullies, so it was no surprise as many people smiled and congratulated him on what he had done.

He had gotten some directions and decided to move up north and see the cities that existed in this world.

-------------------

Unknown to Rayne, there was someone else on the way to the north. In an ornate carriage was a young redhead girl with oversized glasses, who looked at the view with a sense of boredom. The carriage was on its way to the city of Ohfun, and in the location of the Magical Guild. The little girl named Ila sighed as she wished for some form of excitement soon.

-------------------

Raine, Squall, Rinoa, Quistis, Zell, Irvine, and Selphie smiled as they watched the whole thing. Raine allowed them to see the progress of the youngster and they were loving every minute of it.

The end…

This is the latest chapter…sorry for the long wait!

I decided to have Rayne learn some lethal martial arts skills, and besides, he's got more skills up his belt, he'll need them anyway. Besides, Rayne is the son of Squall and Rinoa, so he's a great deal different in terms of attitude and ideas, plus growing up with his mother and aunts makes him quite familiar with the opposite gender. But don't expect him to be `chivalrous' too much, he's been trained to battle not only monsters but humans as well, that also means that he's had bouts with women, so he's got a different outlook of the world.

(*) Picked up the idea from the movie “American Shaolin.”
