Marvel Avengers Fan Fiction ❯ Talia's story ❯ 3: Everything, everywhere, all at once ( Chapter 3 )
Clint’s voice comes through the intercoms, “Stark, you got a lot of strings sticking to your tail.”
“Just try and keep them off the streets.” Was the billionaire’s reply.
“Well, they can’t bank worth a damn. Find a tight corner.” Clint advised.
“I will roger that.”
Iron man does as Hawkeye advised and leads towards a tight corner. Hawkeye fires an arrow upon arrow, exploding the Chitauri riders. Tony flies under some tunnels, leaning left and right, causing the Chitauri to swerve and crash. Tony looks back and sees no Chitauri following him anymore. “Nice call,” He praises Clint, “What else you got?”
Talia returns to reality and continues fighting the Chitauri that jump in front of her. She hears Tony actually speaking into the comms, addressing Clint, “Nice call. What else you got?”
“Well, Thor’s taking on a squadron down on 6th.”
Talia hears a sigh and Tony’s voice, “and he didn’t invite me…”
The girl shares a look with Steve, who rolls his eyes, causing her to giggle before continuing to fight. She spots Natasha using the Chitauri energy rifle, but had gotten taken down by a Chitauri soldier.
The Black Widow groans as she tiresomely takes the alien down by slitting its throat. Cap jumps down beside her, but Natasha mistakes him as a Chitauri soldier and turns to him with the energy rifle aimed at him.
She tiredly drops the weapon. “Captain, none of this is gonna mean a damn thing if we don’t close that portal.” She tells him. Cap sighs, “Our biggest guns couldn’t touch it.” Talia’s eyes go white, and back to their grey color.
“Well,” Talia starts, making the adults turn to her, “maybe it’s not about guns.” She gestures to the flying chariots. Steve gives a weird look and he tells her, “You wanna get up there, you’re gonna need a ride.”
Natasha glances up, “We got a ride…could use a lift though.”
She backs up, giving herself distance to run forward. Steve lifts and angles his shield, “You sure about this?”
“Yeah, it’s gonna be fun.”
Natasha runs forward, jumping on a nearby taxi and to Cap’s shield. Steve boosts her up and she swiftly grabs on to a flying chariot.
Steve looks to Talia, who gives him an impressed look, before creating a portal beneath her feet, making her fall into it. The portal opens above the chariot Natasha boarded, Talia dropping through it and grabbing the chariot too.
Natasha cuts the string holding the Chitaurian to the chariot despite the high speed, making it wobble. She climbs up and sticks her knife into his neck, pushing him off the chariot.
“That’s so cool!” Talia shouts over the noise. Natasha smirks.
Talia’s eyes go white for a moment before she tells Tony through the comms, “Hey metal man, could you clear the aliens behind us?”
Iron man arrives behind them and shoots the other Chitaurians following the chariot, “Done.”
Talia waits for a few seconds before Tony exclaims, “Wait, did you just call me ‘metal man’?!”
Talia sniggered and helped Natasha steer the chariot. Tony flies down to help Steve, using his repulses to shoot the Chitaurians. He faces Steve and shoots the energy onto the shield, which reflects the energy to nearby Chitaurians, knocking them out.
From above them, Clint fires multiple arrows, taking down Chitaurians following Tony. Thor joins Hulk in taking down a Chitauri Leviathan, having their own little dispute settled by Hulk punching Thor away after they got the job done.
“Captain, the bank on 42nd past Madison. They caught a lot of civilians there.” Clint informs Steve. “I’m on it.” He replies.
Something is shooting the chariot Natasha and Talia are on. The Black Widow turns back and groans, “Oh..you..” Talia turns behind to see Loki following them in hot pursuit on another chariot.
The two chariots race downward, trailing between buildings, driving and dodging. “Nat, what are you doing?” Clint asks, commenting on the ‘race’ taking place. “Uh…a little help!” She answers. Talia is facing Loki, using her portals to send piles of debris to Loki’s chariot.
Talia hears the faint sound of an arrow being nocked, and Clint tells them, “I’ve got him.”
Talia watches as Loki catches the arrow Clint shot, holding it just before it hit him. Loki sent an evil smirk in Clint’s direction, but the arrow exploded in Loki’s face, making him crash into the Stark Penthouse pad.
“Ready?” Natasha asks Talia. The teenager nods and follows Natasha, who jumped off the chariot, landing on top of the Stark Tower, rolling to break momentum.
“Doctor.” Natasha calls out to Eric Selvig.
He squints while replying, “Loki’s scepter, the energy…the Tesseract can’t fight. You can’t protect yourself against yourself..”
Natasha faces him, “It’s not your fault, you didn’t know what you were doing.”
“Well, actually I think I did. I built in a safety to cut the power source.”
“Loki’s scepter?...” Talia said aloud, wondering what on earth was going on. Natasha widened her eyes in realisation as Selvig nodded, “It might be able to close the portal.” The three of them looked up at the big portal to space above New York City.
Selvig looks down at the ground and states, “And I’m looking right at it.” The two women follow his line of sight and spot the scepter lying on the ground of the Stark Tower roof.
Moments later, Talia stands beside Natash, who is pointing the scepter towards the machine used to open the space portal. “I can close it!” She tells the team, “Can anybody hear me? I can shut the portal down!”
Steve answers, “Do it!”
“No, wait!” Stark interrupts.
“Stark, these things are still coming!” Steve tells him.
“I got a nuke coming in, it’s gonna blow in less than a minute. And I know just where to put it.”
Talia turns to Natasha with a horrified expression. Natasha gives her a grim look. The younger girl turns to watch as the Iron Man slowly pushes the rocket up, nearly missing a building. He continues to angle it upwards.
“Stark, you know that’s a one-way trip?” Steve tells him. Tony doesn’t respond. He turns off his comms and Talia lets out a strangled sob.
A minute goes by and Natasha mutters, “Come on, Stark…”
Nothing.
An explosion is heard and the nuclear explosion comes closer to the exit of the portal.
Talia’s eyes go white and she immediately tells Natasha, “Close it.”
Gritting her teeth, Natasha pushes the scepter into the energy barrier, causing the machine to fail, the portal closing.
The team watches in anticipation yet hopelessly as they pray for Tony to come through. True to Talia’s vision, Tony made it through just in time before the portal closed.
“Son of a gun!” Steve exclaims.
Talia gave a cry of joy, before realizing he was gaining speed quickly, “He’s not slowing down!” Stretching her hands out, she closes her eyes and a portal forms below Tony’s form, bringing him closer to the ground, a futile attempt to slow his speed.
Just then, the Hulk grabbed Tony from the air, and jumped from building to building to slow the momentum, finally jumping on the ground, laying Iron Man on the floor.
Talia creates a portal that the women step through to get to Tony. Thor rips off Tony’s front plate, revealing Tony’s peaceful face. Talia gasps. Steve gives a disappointed look.
But the Hulk roars in fury and Tony is startled awake.
“What the hell? What just happened? Please tell me nobody kissed me!” Talia laughs in relief at Tony’s words. Cap relaxes and tells him, “We won..”
“Alrighty, hey, alright. Good job, guys. Let’s just not come in tomorrow. Let’s take a day. Have you tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don’t know what it is, but I wanna try it.”
Thor looks up to Stark Tower, “We’re not finished yet.”
There’s a beat of silence.
“And then shawarma after.” Tony concludes.
“Yes!” Talia quietly cheers at the thought of food. Tony points to the girl, nodding his head, “She gets it.” Talia claps happily, making the team chuckle at her antics.
Making a portal, the Avengers arrived at the Stark Tower, where Loki lay on the steps, shock flashing in his eyes before he put on his poker face.
“If it’s all the same to you…I’ll have that drink now.” The Hulk snorts and Talia giggles. Loki widens his eyes as he shifts them to her.
“The Eight…” He mumbles, looking her up and down.
Talia frowns, but her eyes go white. When they return to her normal eye colour, she sneers at him and runs to the broken glass window. The Avengers try to call her back, but she jumps out the window, causing them to panic.
But the girl creates a portal and lands outside Donya’s diner.
“And she’s gone…” Clint states.
“What do you mean by ‘The Eight’?” Steve questions Loki firmly. The God of Mischief smirks but provides no explanation.
Outside Donya’s diner, Talia stands. She glances at the store.
“I’m sorry Momma..”
