Demon Rancher chapter 3
Coping with Canines
A few hours later…
Simba stares at the little dog in mild curiosity. “Rar?” Vickie giggles as her new `puppy' stares at the larger lion-like monster in equal curiosity. Simba looks up at his mistress in question. “What?” Vickie asks him, then, soundly smacks herself on the forehead. “Oh! I forgot to name him!” She looks at the puppy then at her blue and silver house. “Just a sec!” She shouts as she runs inside the house to look for her book of names.
Simba resumes looking at the silver dog and notices that he has a blue dot on his forehead. Simba reaches out to touch it and the puppy follows his paw's path with his eyes. The puppy now realizes what Simba is going to do a little too late and starts backing away, growling a warning. Simba laughs, thinking it's a game and scoots closer to him and tries to touch the blue dot again.
A strong spring breeze blows Simba's body closer and he falls over, paw brushing the blue spot on the pup's head. The puppy yelps and another gust of wind picks up, this time it's coming from the puppy. The little dog's eyes turn blood red as he howls and his fangs get larger. Simba gets to his feet only to see a little Hound from Hell glaring at him, a loud growl vibrating through its body the only warning he gets before it leaps at him.
“RAAHH!!” Simba yells while running away as fast as he can through Vickie's Ranch, the hell hound right behind him. Simba heads for the backyard of his owner's house, thinking that the newbie wouldn't dare enter his mistress's safe haven without her permission. He jumps over the 3 foot fence and hides behind the bushes and sighs in relief. Then squeals when the dog just barrels straight through the wooden fence and into the bushes. The `hell puppy' claws at the bushes, snarling when he can't reach Simba. Simba darts out of the bushes and runs through the flower bed and climbs up the nearby tree with his claws. Puppy follows him up to the tree, tries to climb up it and fails, then immediately starts barking his head off, telling Simba to get down so he can pay for what he did to him.
Vickie is looking at the list of names when she hears a crash coming from her backyard. She goes over to her bedroom window and looks outside and silently watches the madness that ensues. Vickie shakes her head and goes back to her book. She smiles as she finds the perfect name for her puppy, who is currently causing a lot of destruction to her yard. She starts to hum as she walks down the stairs and out her back door.
Her tune comes up short when she sees the extent of the damage. Vickie puts her hands on her hips when she sees the pup barking up the tree at Simba. She then remembers what Dr. Karnab said about naming Demons. You have to call out their name and direct it only at the said Demon. The Demon will then realize that's it's name and will look at you. when it does that, it will recognize you as it's owner. Vickie glares at the puppy so hard, the dog can feel her glare and it tenses up. “SESSHOMARU!!” the puppy's ears go back as he slowly turns around to look at Vickie, his eyes flashing back their golden color.
Vickie is still glaring at Sesshomaru when she tells him to come to her. Sesshomaru gulps, looks at the mess he made and his ears go down along with his head as he slowly walks toward Vickie. When he's standing in front of her, Vickie crouches down and lifts his face till they're eye to eye. “You bad boy!” Sesshomaru winces and shuts his eyes at the bad part. Vickie's eyes soften a little when she sees what she did.
Vickie turns Sesshomaru around to face Simba, who is half hiding behind the tree. “Look what you've done…” she gently whispers in his ear. Sesshomaru looks at the cowering Garu “You've scared poor Simba so bad…” Sesshomaru's ears go down at the bad again. “You know, with a little more training, you could do twice this much damage in the arena…” she mumbles half to herself, and partly to her puppy. Vickie stands up and starts to walk away, out the broken part of the fence. “I wish you had hands. Then you could help me fix this.” Sesshomaru tilts his head at his mistresses words, then opens his mouth in a dog smile as he bounds over to her.
The next day…
Simba is jumping from foot to foot, anxious for his mistress to come out of her house and tell him what his training will be like for the month. Sesshomaru tilts his head in question. ~ What's going on? Why are you so jumpy? ~ Simba stops jumping when he hears the little voice in his head asking what's going on. He looks at the little dog and wonders how he should explain this to him. He's never had to do this before…
Simba smiles, showing some of his fangs. “Row Raow!” (Mistress likes it when we train and get stronger.) Sesshomaru wags his tail a little. ~ Cool. What's Train? ~ Simba's ears go down. Now what does he say?! (Um… training is what she tells us to do.) ~ Like what kind of training? ~ Grrr… (Like…Exercise. That helps us get stronger and makes us hit harder in battle.) Sesshomaru's ears perk up. ~ Sounds like there's more! ~ Simba nods his head. This he could explain! (Yep! There's Meditation, that makes you smarter and lets your Intelligent moves get stronger. But I don't really need that, cause I'm already so smart!) Sesshomaru's eyes glow with interest. ~ How smart are you? ~
(My intelligence is at level 7! From the looks of you, you might be a level 4 Int.. Now, back to the types of training! There's also Ukemi, that's makes your Defense rise. You take less damage when you have a high Def.! Then there's Balance, where you have to balance yourself on one leg or you fall over!) Sesshomaru looks down at his paws and tries to stand on one leg. He lifts one front paw in the air, that's easy enough. Then the other, a bit harder to do. He can't stay up for too long, and falls over.
(Maybe you should just try two legs. Anyways you could do a High Jump. That's where you jump as high as you can over and over. Or you could Shadowbox…) ~ What's that? ~ (shadowboxing is when you picture your enemy in front of you and you pretend to hit it.) Just when Sesshomaru was about to ask Simba another question, Vickie walks out of the house.
“Alright you two! Let's get to work!” Vickie orders, clipboard in hand. Sesshomaru turns to look at his mistress and Simba stands at attention. Vickie walks over to Simba and checks her clipboard. “Simba, you could use some more power, so you can do some exercise.” Simba nods his head and gets down to the ground. “Sesshomaru, you can Meditate for a while.” Sesshomaru tilts his head. “Um, that means you think a lot.” Sesshomaru barks and jumps up, putting his front paws on Vickie's chest and licks her chin. Vickie laughs and walks back into the house.
Sesshomaru lays on his belly, trying to think of what to think about. He looks over at Simba doing sit ups and wishes he could do that along with wanting to stand on one leg. He tries to imagine what an enemy would look like, he's never had any before…
Vickie comes back out a few hours later. Simba is taking a rest and Sesshomaru is still thinking, his young mind never taking a break. She walks over to Simba and pats him on the head while giving him a potato. Then she walks over to Sesshomaru. Vickie frowns when she sees her puppy concentrating so hard that he doesn't even notice her standing over him. “Sesshomaru? Are you okay?” Sesshomaru opens his eyes and looks up at her, tail up and wagging slightly. Vickie smiles. “You can take breaks you know.”
The next day…
“Simba, Sesshomaru, you can both do a Ukemi.” ~ How do you do a Ukemi? ~ (you have to purposely hurt yourself over and over!) Sesshomaru raises an eyebrow. ~ You mean I gotta bite myself? ~ (however you wanna do it.) And Simba proceeds to punch himself in the face. Sesshomaru looks at his paws, lays down and starts to bite himself. He yelps after the first bite, a small amount of blood on his fangs. Then he growls ~ I HAVE to do this! ~ he thinks as he bites down on his other arm and growls when he almost yelped again. Sesshomaru chooses another spot and bites down harder than he did before and whines as he draws more blood. ~ I HAVE TO DO THIS! ~ He thinks to himself as he rolls onto his side and proceeds to bite down on his left hind foot. This time he yelps a little too loudly and he mentally growls at himself.
But that yelp was loud enough to attract Vickie's attention, along with the other noises she heard coming from him outside. She steps out of the front door starts walking over to Sesshomaru and gasps in suprise. Her dog's beautiful snowy white fur was turning red before her eyes. She couldn't see Sesshomaru's head, but the leg that was showing was matted and crimson. “Sesshomaru?” she asks a little timidly, not sure what was going on. She hears a few yipes and some more growls as she gets closer to him. When she can fully see what's going on, she rushes over to stop her puppy from mutilating himself. Or worse…
“Sesshomaru! Stop it!” she shouts as her hands grab the only unmarked part of his body, his ears and pulls his head back. Sesshomaru's muzzle is bloody as well as his teeth. He whines at her and turns to lick her hand. His eyes shine and his tail wags as he looks at his mistress for her approval. But becomes concerned when he sees tears in her eyes. “No… you gotta stop…” Sesshomaru grins and takes a light nip at his paw. “NO! Don't do that!…” she wails and she picks up her pup and runs into the house to grab a towel.
Vickie runs to the downstairs bathroom and grabs a large, gray towel. The first one she sees, and wraps Sesshomaru in it so that he couldn't bite himself anymore. Then grabs the phone and calls her sister. “Hello?” Sheila says on her line. “Sheila! Tell the hospital that I'm taking Sesshomaru in.” “Can't you call? What's wrong with him?” “I don't remember the number! And this is an emergency!” “Okay, but what's wrong? Tell me so I can tell them!” “Just tell them I'm coming in with him!” Vickie shouts into the phone before slamming it on the receiver.
