Demon Rancher chapter 6
Enter, Inu!
Vickie walks onto the ranch with a little baby wrapped in a blanket in her arms. Sesshomaru looks up at his Mistress in wonder when she places the bundle by his feet. “What is it?” he asks Vickie. Vickie smiles as she remembers what the Association told her about her new demon. “He's a half Dog Demon, and half Human, but don't tell any demon that, they might try to eat him.” Cynthia explains. Vickie nods her head as she takes her new mixed breed `puppy' home with her. “He's a Dog Demon Hanyou.” She answers Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru pokes at the blanket and pulls it off of the baby. Snow white little puppy ears were sticking out on top of his white haired head. Sessho takes a sniff at the little baby hanyou. “He smells a bit like me…” he mumbles. Vickie catches the words and leans in to whisper in his ear. “You both have the same daddy.” Sessho's eyes widen in surprise. “That makes us brothers!” he yells, almost too loudly, for the baby moved but did not wake up. “So what's his name?” Sessho asks Vickie. Vickie beams, “His name is Inuyasha!”
One month later…
“Inuyasha!” Vickie shouts at the little half demon, “Quit fighting with your brother!” Inuyasha takes his mouth off of Sessho's tail and growls at him. Sessho glares at Inu and pulls his now three foot long tail away from his `brother' and walks toward the house. Inuyasha follows him and sits down next to his older brother. Vickie walks over to the two dog demons and brings out her clipboard. “Sessho, you got to do some Shadow Boxing and Inuyasha…” she looks at his stats. “You can do a few High Jumps.” She says as she walks into the house.
Inu starts jumping off the ground and into the air a few times, then starts panting. Sesshomaru is staring straight ahead and is punching at the air, hitting an imaginary foe. Inuyasha catches his breath and sees his brother punching at the air and he pounces on him from the side. Startled, Sesshomaru falls to the ground with a real enemy on top of him. “Get off!” Sessho growls at the half demon. Inuyasha just laughs and pulls on his brother's pointy elven ears. Sesshomaru grabs Inuyasha's puppy ears and gives them a harsh tug, making him yelp.
Inuyasha rolls off of his brother and curls into a protective ball. “Ow…” he whines. Sessho just stands over him, hands balled into fists. “Vickie really needs to work on your defense, not your speed. It's pathetic!” Vickie had her head sticking out of the window the whole time, so she heard everything. She walks outside and sneaks up behind Sessho and gives him a hug from behind. Sesshomaru bites down on the hand wrapped around him and winds up getting smacked upside the head and seeing things in shades of gray. When she lets him go, Sessho falls to his hands and knees, holding his head since things were spinning in circles.
Inuyasha looks up at his Mistress in wonder at her power; she was able to bring his older brother to his knees in one blow! Someday, he would be able to do that! Vickie smiles at her young month old puppy, “You know, he does have a point.” She says while bringing out her clipboard from nowhere. “Your Defense is only at level six it needs to be at least level ten before I can put you into any battles. And then you have to do some Life training as well. That needs to be at level ten too.” Inuyasha frowns at Vickie. “What level am I at now?”
Vickie looks at Inuyasha, then back at her clipboard. “Your Life is at level eight, Power is almost at level nine, your Defense is at level six, Intelligence is half way between level six and level seven, your Speed is at level eight, and your Accuracy is at level nine. Your total level is five. Happy now?” Inuyasha looks at his Mistress with wide eyes. “I'm still better than you…” Sessho grumbles and Vickie whacks him on the head again, making him fall face first in the dirt. “And yet you're still not good enough for a fight yet.”
Inu laughs at the ordeal that his brother is going through, and Vickie gives him a glare. “Tomorrow you're doing Ukemi's.” and with that, she stomps back into the house. Sessho slowly gets up and stands on shaky legs. “Oi, I think I need to sit down…” he says while leaning on the side of the house. Inuyasha grabs his hand and yanks him to the ground. “Then sit down!” he yells at him, Sessho swipes at Inu, but he misses and hits the wall. “Aah…why you…little…” PLOOP! Sesshomaru is down for the count and is passed out on the ground in front of his little brother.
Inuyasha shakes his brother and laughs; he thinks his brother is playing dead. “Okay Sessho, you can get up now.” He tells him. Sessho doesn't move. Inu shakes Sesshomaru a little harder, “C'mon Sessho! Wake up!” Inu stands up and kicks his brother in the stomach and he still doesn't move. Tears come to the half demon's eyes as he runs to the house and starts banging on the door. A few minutes later, Vickie opens the door, looking annoyed. “What?”
“I'm sorry!!” Inuyasha wails. Vickie hugs her puppy and asks him what's wrong. “I killed him!” he shouts into her chest. “What?!” Vickie screams as she pulls him over to where Sesshomaru was last seen. Sessho is laying on the ground, his head facing away from them. Vickie lets go of Inu's hand and kneels beside her little Dog Prince. “Sessho?..” she calls out, a little uncertainly, when she gets no response, she turns him over and puts a hand by his nose. Warm air hits her hand, proof of steady breathing. “It's okay, Inu.” She tells to her wailing puppy. “He's just knocked out, he'll come around soon.”
“So I didn't kill him?” Inuyasha sobs, “No, you didn't kill him. Look, he's already waking up.” Inuyasha leans in just in time to see his brother's eyes flutter open. “You're alive!” Inu shouts as he jumps on Sessho's prone body. “Yeah, but you're gonna kill me!” Sessho shouts as he tries to push off his heavy brother and fails. “I think it's time that you rested…”
Two hours later…
“OWWW!!!”
“INUYASHA!! GET OFF OF HIM!!”
Inuyasha mumbles something and lets go of his brother's tail once again. Vickie grabs him by the tie in his hakama and pulls him towards the gate. “That's it, I'm going to control that rowdiness today!” Sesshomaru looks on in wonder as his Mistress drags his disobedient little brother away.
An hour later, they arrive at a magic shop. “Can I help you?” asks the old shopkeeper. He had no hair on his head and walked with a cane. “Maybe… my pup isn't listening very well, is there anything you can give me to punish him?” the old man, Brady, peers at Inuyasha. Inu stares at him, “Taking his food away won't help?” he asks and Inu just turns his head away. “Nope, and when I slap him, he doesn't even feel it!” Brady frowns then reaches under his desk. He takes out a box and pulls out a beaded necklace with fangs in between the beads.
“How about this?” he asks Vickie. Vickie inspects the necklace, “What'll it do?” she asks him. Inuyasha is busy amusing himself with one of Brady's Grandfather clocks. Brady leans in and whispers to Vickie, “Just put these beads around his neck and say the word of subjugation aloud to him.” “What's that?” Vickie whispers back, “Whatever word you say to a dog that should be obeyed.” Vickie nods then takes the necklace.
CRASH!!
“Inuyasha! What did you do?!” Vickie screams at her pup. The half demon had just stuck his hand through the clock, trying to get the little bird inside. Vickie scowls, then storms over to her pup. She then places the Miko blessed necklace around his neck and pulls his hair out and over it. “Sit down while I pay the man for your new necklace!” she says while turning away, not noticing the blue beads flashed pink when she said `Sit'.
“How much do I owe you Mister Brady?” Vickie asks the old man. Brady just shakes his head, “Don't worry about it. I was trying to get rid of it anyways.” Vickie nods in understanding, grabs Inuyasha by his clawed hand, and leads him out of the store. “I'm hungry!” Inu complains to Vickie as they walk by an outdoor restaurant. Vickie stops and looks at the place. It looked a little expensive, but she could see a few monsters with their owners eating at some of the tables.
“Alright, what do you want?” she asks him. Inu pulls on his new necklace and mumbles something under his breath. “What'd you say?” Vickie asks him, “Whatever they got!” Vickie nods and walks over to a table, for once, not having to drag her puppy. The waiter comes up to them and gives them each a menu. Vickie looks at the menu and when she looks over it to check on Inuyasha, Inu is frowning. “What's wrong?” she asks him. “I can't read this!” he complains.
Vickie sighs and looks back at her menu, “Then I'll read it to you.” “I want some fish!” Inu tells his Mistress. Vickie looks over at the price of fish, $5.00! “Um…try something else, Inuyasha.” “I want fish!” he barks. Vickie puts the menu down and glares at Inuyasha, “Well you can't have any! It's too expensive!” she yells at him and continues to read the menu for her own order.
She looks up in alarm when she hears an Oogyo scream in pain. Inuyasha had bit down on the flying pink fish monster's tail and she was slapping him as hard as she could with her fins, trying to make him let go. “I foud som fis!” he shouts through clenched teeth. Vickie runs over to the two and yanks on Inu's ears “Let her go, Inuyasha!” Inuyasha growls, but lets the fish go. Vickie glares at Inu, and he glares back at her. “Go back to the table and sit down!” FLASH! BAM! “OOWW!!”
Inuyasha's necklace reacted to the command of subjugation, Sit, and made him fall flat on his face. “Oh shit! What happened?!” Vickie cries out, and some of the people start clapping. Inu had just gotten up, wiping a bit of his own blood from his mouth. “Did you do that?!” Inuyasha screams at Vickie. “I-I think the necklace did it…” Vickie stammers in shock at what happened. Inu growls and yanks the necklace over his head, but it doesn't go past his chin.
He keeps on yanking on it and Vickie notices the necklace flashing pink every time he does so. “Inuyasha, it isn't going to come off.” She tells him. “What?!” Vickie sighs and leads him back to the table. She places him firmly in the seat and sits next to him with her own chair. “I'll get you your fish, I'll just have some water, okay?” Inuyasha shakes his head “No, that's okay! I'll have something else, you get what you want!” he insists, making Vickie curious. “What's with the change of attitude?”
Inuyasha's ears go flat against his head, “I've been a bad boy, haven't I?” Vickie grins and fluffs up his hair, “Yeah, but you're my bad boy. Just try to act like that in the arena, and maybe I'll let it slide.” Inuyasha's face lights up at being `forgiven' “When can I start battling?” he asks her. “After Sessho gets his first battle out of the way. If he does well, then I'll know that you'll do good a month later.” The waiter comes back and asks them what they want to eat. “I'll have a hot dog and an orange soda.” Vickie tells him. Inuyasha looks at her horrified. “You eat dogs?! Is that what's gonna happen to me if I don't do good in the fights?!” he screeches, and the waiter has to calm him down.
“They're not made out of dogs. They're made from pigs.” “Oh…” Vickie just laughs and ruffles Inuyasha's hair again. “You're so silly!” Inuyasha just frowns at his laughing Mistress. He then orders a shrimp salad. Ten minutes later, the two get their food, Vickie eats all of her food, and Inuyasha only eats the shrimp. Vickie pounds him on the head after they're done eating. “You're supposed to eat it all!” she yells at her puppy. Inuyasha whines at the shrillness of her voice and they walk home in silence.
Two hours later…
Sesshomaru stares at Inuyasha in confusion. She takes him out and gets him a necklace for being bad? He thinks to himself, then asks the same question to his brother. Inuyasha blushes, shakes his head, then walks away, for once, acting mature. “I thought that necklaces were for girls?” Sessho shouts after his brother, Inuyasha turns to face his tormentor.
“I'm not a girl!” Inuyasha yells. Vickie hears the outburst and runs out with her pups' food. “Time to eat!” she yells, successfully getting both dogs attention. Inuyasha looks confused, “I thought I just ate…” Sessho's eyes get big, “You took him out to eat too?!” he yells at Vickie. Vickie narrows her eyes at Sesshomaru. “Yeah, I was hungry. Now eat your food, both of you!”
Five minutes later…
Splat!
“Hey!”
Thwock!
“Take that, meanie!”
Ploop!
“Oh, yeah? How `bout this?!”
Smack! Splat!
Vickie walks outside to see the commotion, and sees Sesshomaru and Inuyasha fighting with their food! “Well, I know that they got good aim…” Vickie mumbles to herself. “Okay guys, quit it! If you're gonna fight, why don't you just draw your feelings instead of messing each other up?” Both brothers glare at their Mistress. Vickie glares back and takes their food dish away. “I'll be back with the crayons and paper. Don't do anything except breathe while I'm gone!” Vickie yells as she runs back into the house.
Five minutes later, Vickie runs back outside with a box of crayons and a book of paper. She tears off a few sheets and gives some to each of her dogs. They take it and stare at the paper, willing what they want to show up on it, but it doesn't work. “It ain't doin' nothin' !” Inu complains. Vickie smiles as Sessho growls in frustration. It didn't work for him either.
Vickie hands the pups a crayon and shows them how to draw by drawing herself. “Now you try.” Inu draws a few scribbles and laughs and Sessho does the same. Vickie grins and leaves her pups to draw whatever comes to mind. After a half hour, Vickie comes back out to see what they drew.
“He's a meanie!” Inuyasha yells up at Vickie while showing her his picture of Sesshomaru. “Yeah, well he's just stupid!” Sesshomaru growls as he shoves a picture of Inuyasha in Vickie's face. Vickie takes both pictures and giggles. “I'm glad that they don't hold monster art shows. Because if they did, you two would never win!”
“Hey! No fair!” both brothers shout at their Mistress. Vickie giggles and pats both of her dog demons on the head. “Are you two feeling better?” she asks. Inu frowns, “Maybe a little bit better.” He mumbles. Sessho grins, “Yeah, I'm feeling better! But when can I enter the fights?” he asks Vickie. Vickie frowns and thinks for a minute. “How about…in a few months?”
“Yeah!” Sessho shouts as he jumps for joy.
