Chapter 6
Kagome slowly stretched in her warm bed. The sun hadn’t risen just yet so she figured she had enough time to grab some food. She dressed and put her mask on before she went to the local noodle shop. When she got there, she ordered four meals to go, and then delivered them to the classroom where they were to meet. She saw everyone there except for sensei Kakashi as she gave a bowl to each of her teammates. “Naruto, I know this will not satisfy your stomach but it will hold you until lunch. Without breakfast you will have no energy, so start eating.” Every one looked at her like she was crazy.
“Kakashi-sensei said no breakfast.” Sakura said.
“Kakashi will not arrive until later in the morning.” Kagome countered.
“We will be breaking the rules, ya know.” Naruto chimed in. Kagome just stared at him.
“Sometimes you need to bend the rules to help your teammates. Not eating will make us weaker. That’s what this test is about. Teamwork is more important in this test than individual combat. I’m disappointed in you, Sakura. Of all the people here, you should have known that teamwork is the key ingredient. Enough chat, eat.” Kagome watched Naruto dig in while Sakura took her time. Sasuke eyed the bowl of noodles then turned his gazed upon her. “If you’re worried about the weight in your stomach if you eat, don’t. I calculated it out so that way it will only be enough to hold us off till lunch. The portion is too small for an actual breakfast.” Sasuke watched Kagome eat her food, and then ate his.
“Hey, Kagome. How are we going to hide the bowls?” Naruto asked.
“I’ve got that taken care of.” She said as she collected the bowls from each person. She measured her steps until she came across a loose floor board. Kagome lifted it and put the bowls inside. She then pulled out a deodorizer can and sprayed the whole room.
“Oh yeah! Thanks Kagome!” “Yes, thank you.” Naruto and Sakura complimented her. Kagome looked at Sasuke to see him nod a silent thanks to her. She smiled.
“Your welcome everyone.” She then made her way to the back of the room, giving Sasuke a sideways glance while she passed.
Twenty minutes passed and they all finally heard footsteps outside the classroom. Kakashi Hatake opened the door and walked in with a book in his hand. “Good morning team. I’m glad everyone made it. Meet me at the forest in ten minutes.” He then disappeared. Kagome got up and walked out the door.
Use your demon speed. It will aid you in the test.
“That’s what I plan on doing.” Kagome replied as the demon voice faded away.

“Okay, your task will be simple. You will be given till noon to gain one of these bells.” He pointed to the bells on his hip. “Do we understand?” Every one nodded. “Then begin.” Every one except for Naruto dashed into the trees.
“This is easy! I’ll get one of those bells in no time! Shadow Clone Jutsu!!!” He immediately started attacking Kakashi.
‘Excellent Naruto. You make a great distraction.’ Kagome thought as she concentrated her demonic energy into her legs. Black chakra glowed from her. She got in position and suddenly saw an opening. She dashed out of the bushes and swept by Kakashi, going right back into the bushes. Naruto stopped attacking and looked around.
“Why do you stop Naruto?” Naruto looked at him.
“Something came out of the bushes so fast, I only saw a blur.” Kagome walked into the opening to face them both.
“Thank you Naruto. You were a great distraction. Here Kakashi-sensei. We have gained the bells to pass.” Kagome held out her palm to him.
“Wow! How could you be so fast?” Naruto asked. Kagome gave him an evil look. She suddenly felt a tingly feeling in her hand so she glanced at her fingers and saw her nails grow out into claws. She tossed the bells at Kakashi’s feet then quickly shoved her hands into her pockets.
“You’re not coming out now are you?” she asked under her breath so no one could here her.
You are now in control to let me out or not whenever you please. Your claws and fangs are growing in nicely. You are maturing into quite the young demoness you should be. Soon you will have a tail and your senses will spicen up. Then your demonic power will be second nature to you. You will be able to use it even without concentrating. I will help you pick out a sword from the village. You must be well equipped if you’re going to protect the Shikon Jewel.
Kagome mentally groaned. “A tail? I can live with the claws and the fangs but why a tail?”
It’s what you are and you should be proud to be a demon. You and Naruto are superior to those lowly humans.
Kagome mentally shook her head and decided to get back to reality. “Nice work Kagome. Your teammate has helped you and the two of you have obviously shown me that you can work as a team.”
“Yeah alright!” Naruto shouted.
“However, I’d like to know what roll Sasuke and Sakura had.” Kakashi demanded.
“I’m afraid I can’t tell you that. If Sakura and Sasuke were smart, they’d stay hidden.”
“And why is that?”
Kagome suddenly threw a flowing wave shurikan at him and watched him transform into a log; the bells transforming into small cherries. “You’re just a substitution!”
‘How did she do that?’Sakura thought. Kagome scanned the trees and bushes to find any trace of Kakashi. She suddenly saw a powerful blue aura.
“There you are.” She mumbled. Kagome ran into the trees and sprinted towards Sasuke. “Sasuke, you need to help distract him if we’re going to get those bells. Sakura will aid you. You’ll now when.” She then took off and told Sakura the same. She then watched Naruto pick up a too-obvious bell. She then watched him hang upside down because he stepped into a trap.
“Naruto, if the target is obvious, don’t pick it up.” Kakashi instructed.
‘This is it! He let his guard down.’ Sasuke thought as he threw a punch from behind. Kakashi easily dodged it and gripped his arm. Just then, Sakura ran behind him and tried to grab a bell but he easily caught her arm. Kagome saw her opening and started to charge her legs with her demonic power. She dashed out and took the bells from his waist, then watched Sakura and Sasuke jump away.
“This is pointless if you all attack me point blank.” Kakashi said as he looked at the three standing before him.
“It wasn’t pointless.” Kagome said tiredly, her hands into fists resting on her knees. She tossed the real bells to his feet. “Sakura and Sasuke did great at trying to retrieve the bells themselves when they were actually distracting you. Naruto was the bait to draw you out of your hiding place.” Naruto just gave her a thumbs up.
“You are an impressing bunch. You pass.” Naruto and Sakura cheered when Sasuke gave Kagome a smile. She shook her head and smiled back. “You are dismissed.” Kakashi then disappeared in a puff of smoke.
“I’ll see you later guys. I-I’ve gotta look into something.” Kagome said, deciding to get out of there and wait in her room for the changes to be done with.
“Aww, come on Kagome! Can’t that something wait?!?” Naruto was confused with her immediate departure.
“No, it’s really important so---see ya!!” With that said, she sprinted to the old rundown building and into her room.
*----------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------*
“Naruto, do you have any idea why she keeps running off like that?” Sakura asked.
“No,” Naruto lied. “Maybe I should go talk to her.”
“No,” Naruto twirled around and looked at Sasuke. “I should go.”
‘No way! That mysterious girl is having my Sasuke run after her!’ Sakura thought.
“Hey! What do you plan on doing?” Naruto looked at him with caution. Sasuke directed his gaze toward Naruto.
“Business that doesn’t concern you.” His tone was dark and cold, his gaze was even colder.
“Hey! It is my business if you’re going to hurt her or interrogate her to death! I’ll kill you before the Chunin Exams, believe it!” Naruto’s anger didn’t even make Sasuke stir. Without another look, Sasuke left toward the village. “Man! He thinks he’s so cool! He’s really an idiot!” Naruto yelled. Sakura just sat there quietly.

As the sun tinged the sky purple and orange, Kagome sat in her room with her clawed hands out in front of her. As she examined her new claws, there was a knock on the door. “Go away!” she yelled but she heard the door open. She quickly tied on her mask and covered her hands. “I said go away! You are trespassing here!” she continued to hear the footsteps in her home. Kagome got herself ready to fight. Her eyes swirled a dangerous blood red, her hair looking a little wilder. “This is your last warning.” Her voice was ragged and dark. “Leave NOW!!” Kagome walked out of her room to see who the trespasser was. When she saw that his back was turned, she charged at him and slammed him against the floor, her hands around his neck. Suddenly, she realized who it was and pulled her hand away from his now red neck. “What do YOU want?” she demanded, emphasizing the words into a threat. She went to the sink to clean the little drops of blood off of her claws.
“So, the rumors are true. You are a demon. You are quite strong for someone your age.”
“Do NOT mistake me for a half wit, Itachi. What is your reason for being here?” Itachi walked over to her and reached for her mask. She realized what he was doing and twisted his arm behind his back. “Don’t look at something that is already there.” After a few moments she released him.
“I came to talk about my brother. Don’t release any more information about me.” Kagome glared at him.
“If you wish to tell him yourself then do so, but do NOT tell me what to do! If I so choose to tell him, I will. Don’t attempt to throw useless death threats at me. He needs to know why his family was killed.” Itachi moved to the door.
“He can find out on his own.”
“Remember, he will want to know at some point. And when he finds out, he will want vengeance and will seek you out until he finds you.” Itachi opened the door.
“He won’t need to find me. I’ll be right here.” Kagome watched him leave.
‘I must start training.’ She thought. She opened the door to find Sasuke standing in front of her. “What are you doing here?” Kagome narrowed her eyes.
“I came to see if you were alright.” Her eyes followed him as he walked past her and into her home.
“I told you that I won’t be a tool for you to use. Now leave me alone.” Sasuke turned around to face her.
“I know it was you giving off that amount of chakra. I saw it with my own eyes. No doubt that Hinata saw it too. What are you?” he looked at her suspiciously.
“I told you, a skilled living being. My chakra is just maturing.”
“Don’t take me for a fool. I know what I saw. You aren’t human, I know that much. The amount of chakra you were giving off was too strong for a human.”
Kagome sighed. ‘I might as well tell him.’ She slowly untied her mask and let it fall away, watching Sasuke’s eyes go wide. “You were right. It’s me maturing. My demon tells me I am maturing into the demon I aught to be. I have fangs and claws and will soon have a tail. This is how I can move so quickly and know things that you don’t.” She showed him her hands. “Both of my parents were human. I’m like Naruto only my demon is attached to me and I can control it. Naruto controls his with his emotions. This is why I keep a mask on, to hide my markings so I won’t be a complete outcast. Naruto is the only one that understands my situation. He and I share the same fate.”
