Chapter 12- The mission

`I can't just let them meet' she thought.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Look, maybe next time you can tell her all you want but we're going to be late. She wasn't there now, she won't be there the next minute.” Sasuke complained.
She looked at Sasuke gleeful. “So you'll bring me again!” She buckled her seat belt.
“Yeah, whatever” Even though Sasuke didn't sound so assuring Hinata quieted down satisfied with the answer and like a little toddler she sat with a happiness that couldn't be brought down. Sasuke shook his head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Thank you so much” She said. Kimimaru laid down the last box cleaning his palms as best as he could.

“Is that all?”

“Yes. Thank you. Come let me check your wound to make sure it's not open.” Kimimaru handed her his hand and she undid the bundles of bloody cloth wrapped around it. “Maybe I should change it.” She reached in a medium bin and took out some cotton then grabbed the alcohol and new white bandages from a cabinet. Kimimaru twitched at the sight of the alcohol but made no objections. She sat next to a table with Kimimaru sitting next to it too but facing her. He hesitated giving her his hand as the smell of the sanitizing product entered his nostrils but she forced the stiff hand to come to her hands.

“Don't take what happened last night serious” Kimimaru apologized.

“No worries.” She pressed alcohol with cotton on his hand. “I'll take you directly to her room. By what time do you think you'll be leaving?”

“I'll come at least every other day and as for time; everyday around this hour for an hour and a half” Shizune wanted to comment on how she doesn't think Sakura will be as cooperative in talking to him and how she wouldn't like to see Sakura disturbed in any way (after all it was her job) but this visitor wasn't a stranger like the rest. Was she right on doing this, she wondered.

“All done. Come on. I'll take you there.” She glanced back. “I'm sure you could find your way back.” Kimimaru grunted. They reached the room. “If anything happens then come and reach me or you could hit the button right next to her bed and someone will come and assist you.” Kimimaru kept on walking after this little notice and without a mere goodbye he went in. Sakura was asleep. This scene made his memory recall other times he'd seen her with her hair loose on the bed however in this memory she wasn't sick or in a hospital. She was lying peacefully next too him in her regular healthy self. The room surprised him. It had its own elegant corner couch which took up one corner and some chairs. A painting on the wall and a table with flowers and apparently a cup. Some one was in here already. And this surely did not look like any regular hospital room. Who won the lotto? Sakura and Ayame (put together) definitely did not have the money to be able to provide a room like that. Whatever, for now he just wanted Sakura. Besides, he had a pretty good idea who did pay for this.

He pulled the chair closest to her bedside and sat there staring at her. He admired every inch of her. Appreciating everything he didn't. But he did use to. He just had too much on his mind back then. It's just the time that wouldn't let him treat her the way he wanted to, to show her how much he loves her. The time that he spent not being able to see her made the picture he had of her in his thoughts become almost like a hazed dream, misty with her face indistinguishable. And now seeing her again was pure bliss finding her more beautiful then ever before.

Sakura began to grunt awaking from the world which she couldn't be harmed. As a picture started to form of someone who happened to be right in front of her she couldn't think of anyone else but “Sasuke?” Kimimaru bit his lip at who he definitely hated already. And being called that by someone you already love just made it even worse. “Sasu-“

“Sakura” he said. Sakura couldn't still make out his voice very well but this wasn't Sasuke because she could already see white hair. “Sakura it's me. Kimimaru” It took Sakura a little longer than usual to put together the pieces but even when she did open her eyes all the way and see clearly and hear clearly and analyze his name fully she felt peaceful but she still felt her stomach tighten up with a feeling of anger, fear and heartrending she tried to hide before her tears started come.

“Get out” She whispered “Get out” she tried to wipe her tears from her face.

“Sakura-“

“Get out. I know what I saw. You and that girl. I was so stupid back then.” Her tears started to rush out like a broken hose that just didn't have an off button. “I believed I could better us. I had faith.” She tried to sit up and run like last time but she felt closely similar to numb.

“I never cheated on you. It wasn't me on that bed.”

“It wasn't you on that bed with that girl in your own house? And now you're going to tell me it wasn't you who screamed at me, who tried to ignore me.” She turned over to her side as best as she could. Looking at his fake expression sickened her.

“Sakura. You're still my Sakura. You haven't changed at all.” He said soothingly with a smile.

Sakura covered her ears and continued to sob. She believed him. Something in his voice sounded so assuring. `Don't believe him.' She told herself.

Suddenly Kimimaru sounded happier the way he never does with anyone else but with his Sakura. “I'll prove to you today, just give me a few minutes.” Sakura opened her eyes halfway wondering what he was talking about. “Those people who were on my bed that day. I'll show you them. Today. Maybe not right now. But I'll promise you they'll be here.” He reached for his phone in his pocket and dialed a number and within seconds he was speaking. “The deal is not yet completed, if you really want my house for a day you're going to have to come here and bring Shizune with you when you come up……… I don't care whether your house is on fire or you're dying. You better get your ass up right now and get here” With out realizing it Sakura giggled at Kimimaru's way of being human. He said he was going to `lend someone his house?'. Maybe he was telling the truth. Maybe she could believe him with no worries. Maybe she had it all wrong from the beginning. But what would explain all this ignorance she was receiving at the time?

He hung up. “Kimi” She said so low hoping to go unheard. Kimimaru turned his gaze to her back wide eyes waiting to hear more but she didn't say anything else. She called out for him.

“Sakura. I still love you. I still think about you.” He put his face in his hands and ran them up to his hair and back down the ends of it. “Look you know I was never the one to say the right words but I try- with you.” He grunted. “I didn't try to talk to you after that because I was already threatened by your friends. After that I thought maybe you would calm down if I gave you time” Sakura's words in silence gave kimimaru bad thoughts. Does she still not believe him? “You know what…ask me anything. Anything you want. You already know how I lie and you'll tell if I am. Come on. Ask.” He could hear her sniffling but he gladly accepted that she hadn't called a nurse to kick him out. With the sound of no more tears he felt more satisfied.

Sakura greatly felt a weight on her shoulders. He still loved her. But she wasn't sure of her feelings towards him anymore. She already had new things and new people. Someone who made her feel different. “Kimi” Kimimaru felt butterflies in his stomach. “I can't love anymore. I'm too weak….and you and I...I just can't see that anymore..not again.”

`There's still hope' he convinced himself.

“HELLO!” Kabuto walked in with a hand up with greetings and the other dragging Shizune's hand. “We're here to the rescue.” Kabuto looked at Kimimaru who gave him back a look of `I'm going to kill you' literally. “Band timing?” He said bluntly.

“No, not at all” Kimimaru said sarcastically.

“Great” Kabuto ignored Kimimaru's death glare. “Hello Sakura.” Sakura blinked at her new visitors curiously.

“Hi. I'm Shizune, your nurse” She said with a downer tone. “This is Kabuto, Kimimaru's friend” She smiled as nice as she could. `How humiliating' she thought. “Hey Kimimaru,” she caught his attention, “I think the kid that `caused' your hand injury is downstairs” She smiled.

“WHAT!” Kimimaru raced out the room forgetting he was in the hospital.

“Now that he's not here-” She signed. “We can get to explaining”

“Hi there. I'm glad we could finally meet” Sakura stared at him with her WTF face. “It's a shame we never got to meet considering I was on Kimimaru's left shoulder while you were on his right.” He pulled up a chair next to her. He smiled warmly. As he took off his glasses and started cleaning them it caused sakura to get an epiphany. His hair. It was closely similar to Kimimaru's. Even in length.

“Are you brothers?” She surprisingly spoke. Kabuto put his glasses back in place and stared at her.

“No. We look alike?” She nodded. He smiled. “That's why you had me mistaken with him that day-”

“You mean-?”

“Yeah that was me and him” Shizune said as she started doing a checkup of Sakura's heartbeat and so on. Of course after being dragged out of her position at the moment she might as well do something before Tsunade finds out she isn't were she was suppose to be.

“I'm sorry to be rude but why would you need his place?”

“About that,” he laughed scratching his head, “my apartment isn't as big as his and I had made a bet with him during a game and I won so that's what I bargained for.”

“I didn't know that part” Shizune mumbled. “And I thought you and Kimimaru had given that up” She said with more anger.

“We did, we did!” He turned to her trying to look for understanding with the face of a saint, “after that I mean” he said lower.

“No kidding” she turned to sakura “I'm very sorry for my boyfriend's lack of brain wave” She said with a kinder tone.

“Hey you took part in it too-” he said which was completely ignored.

“-And I'm really sorry for being the cause of the end of your relationship” she said more sincere.

“Oh no no,” Sakura smiled back for the first time since they had started talking, “It's alright. Things happen for a reason I guess” Her smile penetrated her two visitors with pain. They felt even worse now. Aside from the fact that they weren't sure whether that meant she liked Kimimaru or not, they also couldn't accept that they had caused her so much pain at one time but now she's forgiving them undemanding.

They each returned her smile with a weak one and were discourteously interrupted by their favorite person.

Kimimaru walked in disguise of the devil himself glaring at everyone except Sakura. Shizune suddenly had a finger pointed at Kabuto. “It was his idea” Kimimaru just turned to Kabuto giving him the death glare once again.

“Why look at the time,” Kabuto looked at his wrist which didn't posses a watch, “I think your lunch break is over Shizune, why don't I take you back”

`It hasn't even started!' she argued mentally wanting to stick around now. And the same way they came in, they left out. Kimimaru rubbed his eyes and shook his head after their departure. Sakura meanwhile watched him silently curiously.

`So he never did cheat on me. I'm happy but why do I feel so deflated. Like…. It didn't fill me up enough. Maybe I should …..' As she talked to her self psychologically Kimimaru was returning her stare but noticed hers was empty in thought. As he came to sit down, her eyes followed his movement until he sat back on the chair, but she was still in thought.

He moved closer to her face leaving mere inches and received no reaction from her. “What's the matter?”

“AHHH!!!!” Sakura yelled almost falling off the bed.

Naruhodo I see. So you still do that. Drift into space and scream out afterwards.” He said smoothly. Sakura blushed.

“Well AGAIN your face was way too close! How am I not suppose to react like that!” Kimimaru kept his blank expression which wasn't what she was expecting.

“Sakura?”

“Hm?”

“I love you”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He banged his head on the desk next to him, tapped his feet and glared at everyone who passed by. Waiting to get told what your punishment was wasn't as easy as it was last year.
He was accompanied by another student with bushy brows that looked like he could be guy sensei's son. “Hello, I'm rock Lee.”
“Uchiha Sasuke”
“Uchiha? Could you be related to Uchiha Itachi?”
“No. Never. Who is he?” He monotones.
“Why he is the most promising ninja in this school. My rival” Lee's passion sickened Sasuke to no extent. “He is the best of the best. An akatsuki. A leader.” Ok. Now you have to know that Sasuke was choking on his own breath.
`If I didn't know any better I'd think he was gay'
“You must be new if words of the Uchiha Itachi have not reached you”
“Yeah. That. New student”
“So you're here to get your schedule?”
“No”
“Lost?”
“I'm here to get my detention or whatever the hell it is”
Lee gasped. “New student and already trouble!”
“Hahahaha!!! What are you doing here? If Itachi sees you here he's going to stick his foot up your ass!” came a loud booming voice.
“That sounds like a very disturbing procedure” responded Lee.
Sasuke sighed in annoyance. “What Naruto” he said once the blond had come his way.
“I thought Itachi said no more fights.” He said in a mocking tone. Naruto turned his attention to bushy brow next to him.
“Hello, i'm Rock Lee.”
“Uzumaki Naruto” Naruto gave him his signature toothy grin.
“Sasuke Uchiha? You can come in now” announced the young assistant. Sasuke went in and saw the many young ladies working here. He was expecting more old ugly grumpy women. He went in to another room which looked like Tsunade's office but this one had more frog ornaments and paintings and kind of frog things that cross your mind and across the table sat an old perverted old man with white hair checking out his assistant from the door.
`Sick teme'
“Here he is Jiraiya-sama” the young lady who had just escorted him exited the room closing the door behind her.
“Please take a seat Uchiha”
“Can I just get my punishment and get out of here”
“Don't be so hasty. If it wasn't for the fact that I need your help I would actually give you a punishment to ponder for talking to your headmaster like that” He sat up so as to get a better view of Sasuke's face. “So I take it you attended Mist ninja Academy.” He said as he glanced down at some papers. Sasuke grunted. “Hmmm” Jiraiya's face seemed to contemplate something and faced Sasuke once again with a more serious look. “Down to business. You and Naruto attended what we Anbu call the underground high school. Lucky enough you got kicked out and Naruto ended up being my godson.” Sasuke chuckled at the mention of this. “We believe there is some corruption in that school.”
“And why are you telling me this? Isn't there a special Anbu squad trained for that”
“Yes we do but you two most of all know the place better than we could. I'm sure you were surprised when you came here and you saw how practical our training can be …..well, that is compared to that of the ones you received over there. I'm sure you were to sign an oath with blood as well. We know all of that. At least most of it. And that's where you come in.”
“Then figure it out. I don't want anything to do with this-” Sasuke said in his none caring tone about to leave.
As he was about to get up when Jiraiya raised his fist to slam it against the desk. “You wouldn't care! You've lost all you can lose. But you're under my rules and I know how important becoming Anbu is to you. Wasn't that what your mother wanted?” he mocked Sasuke with his last words stopping at a tone that didn't please him. “I know what Orochimaru was up to. We need your help Sasuke.” Jiraiya calmed down. Sasuke stayed thoughtful. Wasn't this too risky? Getting involved with that school again after already putting up with it for two years. The first time he signed that oath he had given his liberty without knowing. He thought he was going to stick through it and he did until he saw the torture of what it really was. Of course he never really had to go through any. But Naruto did. They were like brothers. Never separated unless ordered to …….by Orochimaru. “This mission will explain to you your parent's death better then Itachi and I ever will.” Sasuke's eyes widened.
`Otosan,' he thought. `Okasan.' After a long period in silence the bell rang waking up Sasuke from his thoughts. Without a word said he exited the headmaster's office. Jiraiya took out a bottle of sake from a hidden place under his desk and after a big sigh he took a gulp of the enchanting drink calming away the tense. `This is going to be a tough one.'
~~~~~~~
A/n: I really think that Jiraiya shouldn't get in family business but then again Sasuke does deserve an explanation. Family issues. They're such pains. (-_-). Oh well at least there's some progress in finding out. So Sasuke what will you choose?
