Chapter Three: The Sand Girl

“This is my favorite place to eat Ramen!” Naruto stated, stuffing noodles into his mouth. A brown haired girl with an apron set a bowl in front of Sasuke. He thanked her and broke his chopsticks.
“Temari-san, how long will you be body guarding Sasuke-kun?” Sakura asked in an innocent enough voice. Temari grinned. She was obviously irking her. Temari shrugged carelessly.
“A few days…maybe a week or two.”
Sakura made a pout/frown/pained expression.
Sasuke almost laughed.

“I don't like Konoha much anyway,”
Temari continued, breaking her chopsticks in half. She started to spoon her soup.
“I prefer my village better.”
Sasuke raised a brow, curious now.
Not that he cared if anyone made fun of Konoha….

Temari blinked and smirked. “Mr. Silent here actually speaks!” She laughed when Sasuke scowled. Then she started talking again.

“It's too clean…and too sunny and bright.” She said, wrapping noodles around her chopsticks.
“And the clothes you guys wear…” Temari stared at them for a moment then scoffed, rolling her eyes. “….so weird”

Naruto: [laughs obnoxiously] She means you Sakura-chan!
Sakura: [smacks him upside the head] Baka! You're the one who dresses weird!
Naruto: [cries in the corner]

“And besides…” Temari continued. She eyed them before saying the last part. “…You guys aren't that great of Shinobis anyway.”
Sasuke glared at her.
“And you mean to say you're better?!”
Temari smirked again and shrugged. There was an awkward silence. Temari was the only one making noise: she ate her noodles and drank her soup loudly….

“What was life like back in the sand village?” Naruto asked, finally breaking the silence. Temari chewed her food thoughtfully.

“Gaara, Kankuro and I would spend all day doing missions. When we weren't doing missions, we were training. When we weren't training, we studied.”
Temari looked down at her nearly empty bowl.
“We're Jounin level now. So people respect us.” She scoffed, “I mean fear us. Our village is run by fear—so unlike your happy palace here.” Temari muttered.

It got quiet again before she continued talking.

“As children of the late former Kazekage…Gaara, Kankuro and I get some “special” privileges. People expect a lot out of us. We live by ourselves. Kankuro's oldest. I'm second. Gaara's youngest. Oh and by the way--” Temari's eyes snapped onto Naruto, “He's doing much better. Not as much as the psycho maniac as he used to be.”

“Gaara killed off most of our family when he was younger.”
Temari was speaking in a soft tone. Sasuke narrowed his eyes. She was staring down at the empty bowl now, her usually bright eyes glazed over.
“It all started with our uncle…wasn't long until he killed our father too. Then he went berserk. Killed a hell of a lot more people after that.”

Temari leaned back in her seat, arms crossed over her chest as she rolled her eyes upward, at the ceiling.

“After just about everyone you knew dies, it feels like there's no point in life. Then you just want to do something. It doesn't matter what it is. You just want to do it. And prove something…”

Temari sighed and rubbed the back of her head, breaking into a grin.
“Nyahhhhh, sorry, got a bit serious there.”
She slammed her hands onto the counter, waving the empty bowl in the air.
“Sir! More Ramen please!”
Naruto grinned. “I bet I can eat more than you.”
Temari snickered. “Uhhh, no you can't….ba-a-aka-a-a” She said, stretching out the last word.
Naruto jumped on top of the seat so he towered over Temari.
Fine! I challenge you to an eat-off!”
Temari raised a brow, smirking.
“Sure Naruto, but you're gonna lose…”

Sasuke stared at the Sand Ninja.
She's gone through all that and she still acts so obnoxious, rude, cocky and…happy….

“Bring it on!!”
The corners of Sasuke's mouth twitched. A slight smirk spread upon his lips.
He snickered.
Fun.

[-----&&-----]

Itachi wanted to hit his head against the wall. How could this Sand Ninja act so…stupid?! She was having an eating contest with that….moron…
Eating ramen in such a….disturbing fashion…
He sighed and drew his cloak over him.
Was she really as strong as they said?
He didn't spend hours interrogating people for nothing….
It would seem that he needed to test her skills himself.
