Author Notes: Hey all this is my first ever fanfic so be gentle ^_^;;

In this fic Naruto is17 and Itachi is 18

Extreme OOCness in this fic for just about every character I think.

Sorry for any spelling mistake I am my own beta and I could have missed some.

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or any off the other characters they belong to Masashi Kishimoto I'm just borrowing them.

Attraction by Numbers

It is silent in the halls of Konaha Private High as Year 11 sits their half-yearly maths exam.

Everyone appears to be fairly laid back except for one blonde haired student in the very back row. His name is Naruto Uzumaki.

Naruto's POV

I am going to fail…

I am defiantly going to fail.

“Naruto” I look up and there is my teacher Kakashi-sensei standing over me “are you ok?”

Am I ok? he asks, am I ok?. Of course I'm not ok I'm going to fail this test and get kicked out of school and spend the rest of my life as a drop-out, never able to get a job or anything!!!!

But of course I don't say that, I mean the whole grade is in the middle of their exams, like I want to create a scene.

So I just smile and nod “I'm fine thanks sir”

I breathe a sigh of relief as he walks away and look back down at my paper.

Ugh maths has never been my strong point.

2x - 5x =3x +5x x=?

I groan. I'm never going to get this.

I glance at the clock and shudder…only 45 minutes to go.

I spend the next 35 minutes staring at the questions and then something clicked. I started writing furiously; determine to finish at least one question.

“Pens down” drawls a voice. I keep writing.

“That includes you Mr Uzumaki” the voice says, right beside me. I jump and blush furiously, glancing up at my maths teacher Kakashi Hatake.

He picks up my paper and flicks through it, eyes narrowing with every page.

“Ok everyone you can go, leave your tests on your table and file out in an orderly manner please”

We all stand to leave when I feel a hand on my shoulder “Not you, Naruto, I want to talk to you first.”

I sit back down and place my head in my hands; here it goes he's going to kick me out. Now what am I going to do!

I open my mouth.

“Sir, please- I- “ Kakashi-sensei holds up his hand to silence me. He pulls up a chair and looks me in the face.

“What happened?”

“I-I dunno I just went blank and couldn't remember anything, Please don't kick me out, I really like this school”

I could feel the tears starting to blur my vision.

He held his hand up again “ Naruto, no-ones getting kicked out for failing a test”

“But my scholarship” I whispered “If I fail I'll lose it and be kicked out forever”

Kakashi-sensei looked at me for a second before sighing “Ok look, there is one other option”

“Ill do anything” I cried. He smiled evilly for a second which made me extremely worried.

“Come and see me in an hour, I think I may know who can help you”

I walked outside in a daze and ran straight into my friends Haku, Neji and Shikamaru.

“What the hell did he want!” exclaimed Haku.

“…”

“Are you OK?” murmured Shikamaru, looking at me concernedly.

“I-I f-failed th-the t-test” I stuttered.

“How can you know that, they haven't even marked the test yet” stated Neji.

“But you don't understand” I cried “I answered one question and I think I even got that wrong”

Haku pulled me into a hug as I cried “It's OK” he murmured “It's only one test, it wont matter that much”

“Yes it will” I cried “pushing him away “If I fail this test then there is no way I will be able to pass my yearly's and if I fail them I lose my scholarship. Without my scholarship I can't afford to go to this school, I'm not rich like the rest of you guys”

The bell went.

“Come on Naruto I'll walk you home” called Shikamaru.

“Thanks Shika but I have to go and see Kakashi-sensei” I sighed “I'll catch up with you guys later”

It was with mounting apprehension that I approached the door to Kakashi's office. I stood outside for a few moments before taking a deep breathe and knocking on the door.

“Come in” called a voice.

I took another deep breathe and stepped inside.

I wrote this chapter a while ago…during my year 11 final exams lol, I had to be careful not to get caught or they would automatically fail me.

Ok ill stop rambling now…review and I might post the next chapter tomorrow.
