Prologue

I brought my hand to my lips, hesitantly feeling the blood that seemed to be coming from them. My eyes were still closed, not wanting to imagine the horrible sight I was yet to see but, I knew, I knew I had to open them eventually. “Open your eyes little girl. Open your eyes to the truth of all living things,” and so I did.

All I could see was the mass of red before me. It was a pile of organs, skin, bone and skin; all the components that made the human body.

My body trembled and shuddered as I looked upon the sight; feeling more and more nauseous by the second. I couldn't handle this physically; my body wasn't ready for the stench or the sight. Somehow, though, I didn't think I could handle the whole situation mentally or physically but I held my own.

“So what do you see in humans now? Do you see any beauty with what's inside them little girl? Do you find yourself beautiful?” His dreaded words stung me hard but I knew the truth inside of them. I knew that each stab his words held was just the sword of truth and it would have more meaning then I wanted it too.

“What can you see inside a heart I wonder,” the cruel voice shook with nothing but happy, malicious words. It was almost as if this disembodied voice was having fun tearing and tasting the mass of human flesh before me. I shuddered at this thought.

“I don't want to know!” I cried, looking around the darkened room that seemed to have no end. My tears were now vivid to this creature, no this man. He laughed cruelly and continued his insane rampage of my thoughts, my confused thoughts.

He tore the heart open, pouring out the blood that it contained. It wasn't beating, it was just lying there, a broken bloody mess in this guys palm. “How does this thing hold love? How does this bleeding mass of flesh ever evoke a non-existent emotion? Is this thing even worth all that?” He then threw the pound of red flesh, emphasizing his point to me.

“STOP!” my voice shook as I yelled that one word. My mind was breaking, all that I believed was just an illusion, no, a story, not even that, just a plain old fantasy, a dream.

“This hand…” he whispered, walking into the light where I could see his pale figure. His dark amber eyes glinted mischievously, his dark raven hair falling like a god's on his well built, masculine, body. He was an overpowering man. The kind of man that could take anything he wanted. “How can this hand give affection? When would this hand ever know how to comfort when all it knows is the feel of a hot, metal weapon? How can happiness come from a warm gun?”

He walked over to my shaken body. I couldn't back away from him, I couldn't slap his hand away, I was mesmerized by this horrible man in front of me. His words were harsh but true, wasn't it always true that the truth hurt? Was it not true that you can only be free when you hear the truth? “Is this my freedom?” I asked looking up at him with a swollen, tear stained face.

His smile was one of the devil; a smile that spoke vengeance, anger and cunning. “Little girl,” he whispered to me, sending chills up and down my spine. “This is more than just your freedom. This is your new life.” He stood up, opening the door that led to my new life, my new escape. “Are you willing to follow me or rot with this thing?”

I had no choice, I got up, my legs shaking, and began to walk towards my entrance and exist. This is what I had been waiting for; my entire life I had lived a lie. There was no beauty, nor love, nor hope. There was only truth and ugliness. That was the world that was what he taught me and it was the only lesson that ever made sense. It was truly, my most valuable lesson.
