After the awkward encounter with finding Neji staring at her from the garden, Hinata had prepared herself for the day. She wore that beige jacket of hers as always with the fur trim about the bottom. The jacket served a purpose to her, which was to hide her body she was so bashful about. She was not as slender as most of the girls so she was self conscience about how she looked, even though she was not large by any means she was just not bone skinny like Sakura and Ino. Even her pants were a size too big to hide this fact as well. The hems of which were rolled up turning them into capris. She needed something to take the heat off of her since she always wore the jacket. Hinata never thought much about having her lower legs exposed. So there she was heading out. Many of the Nins of the village were still without missions save for the ones who were still helping with the reconstruction of Konoha. This gave many of them down time to do as they pleased. Hinata had decided to go on a mission of her own accord. It was a mission to hind rare wild plants and herbs, which made some of her special salves. With a basket upon her arm and a back pack resting against her back she headed down the path away from the Hyuuga Compound.

“Hey Hinata!” A masculine voice would call out to the young woman.

Hinata recognized the voice as she slowly turned about letting the basket slip from her arm and down to her hand. The free hand would come up and hold the handle of the basket before her slim hips. A light smile would touch her glossy lips as she bowed her head a measure.

“Good Morning Kiba-kun.” She spoke in her soft sweet voice, which normally was barely above a whisper. At times most would have to strain to hear her when she spoke. “Where is Shino-kun and Akamaru-chan?”

The young man would approach Hinata as he reached up slipping away the hood of his jacket revealing his wild brown tresses. A wiry grin came creeping up over his face showing those pearly canines of his. He himself wore his same old outfit. Jacket, pants, and those shin obi sandals.

“Well, Shino is still helping his parents with they home trying to get things back in order. And my father decided to take Akamaru out for a scouting mission. He wanted to see how I have been doing on training him.” Kiba let that hand come to his head as she scratched the back of it. “I was coming to find out what you were up to today.” A light shade of pink would arise upon his cheeks beneath those permanent red spikes upon his face.

Hinata blinked her sooty lashes once as she watched her teammate blush. Normally, Hinata was the one to blush at a drop of a hat but today it felt like she had switched roles with Kiba. Ever since they had become teammates so long ago, Hinata had grown more comfortable around him and Shino. She did not stutter or fumble with her words when she would speak and she would actually speak from time to time. The once uncontrollable blushing that would happen when someone spoke to her had stopped as well. One could say she viewed her teammates as her friends, and really, the only friends she had. So why was Kiba blushing was still the question still at hand?

“Ah, well….I was just going to pick some herbs for my salves. You -- you can come along if you would like.” Hinata recalled how she would stop them at times during missions to pick an herb or two and how Kiba would do nothing but cause a commotion about taking too long on stupid things.

“Oh, yeah. Can I? Maybe after we are done we can grab a bite to eat too, hmm Hinata?” The once wiry grin turned into a sly one as he spoke to her. Kiba did a good job of hiding how he felt. For the longest time he had a growing crush on the bashful Hinata. There was something about how shy and timid she was that attracted him to her. They were complete opposites and of course, opposites would attract. He was always sure to sit next to her in class when he could and stay close to her when they were in the group unless he was busy training Akamaru. He was hoping since Shino and Akamaru were gone it would give him a chance to get closer to her without looking like a complete idiot. Plus, Naruto was not even in Konoha so he would not have to sit and watch Hinata adore the baka from afar.

“Hai, if you would like Kiba.” She would stand there for a moment before moving down the road once more away from the Compound. “I just hope you won't be bored with looking for herbs and such. I…I know how you always fuss when I stop during missions.”

Kiba would wince inwardly as he came to walk beside Hinata. `Have I really been that much of an ass towards her?' He thought to himself, as his hands would slip into his pockets of his jacket.

“No, not at all Hinata. Gomen about all the other times. I know how things like that are important to you. I just, get in a hurry during the missions and really feel like we don't have much time to stop and rest.” He would beat himself mentally hoping he had not ruined any chance with her already. There also was the hope that Hinata's crush on Naruto was not that strong.

“No worries Kiba-kun. I know it can be bothersome with me stopping all the time like that.” Soon her feet would hit the small path, which headed into the forest. The trees above head would nearly blot out the sun light from the thick canopy of green swayed above their heads from the cool spring breeze. Shadows would dance about carelessly here and there as the leafs rustled above their heads.

Kiba would tip his head up and gazed upwards for a moment. The atmosphere was right; maybe this was his lucky day he could get closer to the meek girl next to him. A smirk would tug upon the corner of his lips as his dark eyes fell back to Hinata. She was so lovely to him. Her innocents brought such a beauty to her. It was a beauty he had never seen in any other girl he had ever known. Especially those like in his clan who he grew up around. If they liked someone, they would let the guy know in an instant by either flatly telling them or wearing revealing clothing to catch the guy's attention. His angelic Hinata did not do that. She was so conservative and reserved. Part of Kiba wondered if it was because she was from the Hyuuga Clan and they were trained to be such a way. Maybe it was only the women of her family who acted that way; then again, maybe it was just Hinata.

“Kiba? Kiba-kun?” Hinata stepped towards him and placed a light hand upon his forearm. “Kiba are you alright?” There was a slight look of concern in those pale pearly orbs of hers as she gazed up at her teammate.

Kiba fiercely shook his head snapping himself out of his thoughts as he noticed they had stopped and the surroundings were slightly different. They now stood in a small glen. The canopy of branches was still thick overhead but would like light peak through lighting up the small clearing. The scent of the numerous varieties of plants hit his sensitive nose. The scent was much like Hinata's and now he knew why she carried such a wonderfully exotic smell.

“Gomen Hinata, I was just lost in thought. Just wondering how Akamaru is doing with Father.” Of course Kiba would lie. He did not want Hinata to know right away of his feelings. The last thing he wanted was to run off the shy girl so soon now that he finally had her alone.

“Oh, Well I am sure he is doing fine.” A washed over her lips as she lifted her hand from his arm. “Now let's get started.”

Neji had found himself less than eager to return to his practice after the meeting with his Uncle. Having retreated to his quarters it would fall heavily upon the bed. Sitting there his forearms would drape over his legs and his hands hung idly between his thighs. Everything had hit him so hard. He would have to marry Hinata, his own sweet cousin. His shoulders would slum forward as a hand would come up and run over the length of his face. How would he break the news to her? There is no way she would be thrilled to hear such a thing. He thought of the way she spoke to him during the Chuunin Exam and how he had wanted to kill her after her words. Those words which struck ever little nerve in him, but she was right. He took all his anger he had towards the Main House and placed it upon her. She was not the one who decided to seal the Branch House. She was not the one who pitted fate against his father to be the second born. His hand would come to rest over his mouth as he looked to the wall facing him as it finally hit him. She was just as much of a pawn in the Hyuugan Family as he was. How could have he been so blind not to realize it before now?

“Your foot work is sloppy!” Hiashi yelled out to the tiny girl of four years as she struggled with each movement and stance. Hinata worked as hard as she could while panting and attempting not to stumble over her feet. The poor thing had been at it for hours and the look of exhaustion was written all over her youthful face. Sweat had beaded upon her forehead and was trickling down the sides of her temples. Then finally it would happen, she would trip and fall. Neji nearly jumped to his feet to help his young cousin but he was stopped. His father reached out and put a hand before Neji's chest to prevent his movement. Neji would look to his father with confusion. His father would simply shake his head and motioned for Neji to watch once more.

Neji felt like he could cry as he remembered that day. Yet no tears would even well within his eyes. Those old emotions he had buried so long ago began to arise. How he use to adore Hinata. How they use to be so close to one another before his Father's death. She was the cutest girl he had ever seen, and she still is. Then something happened, something that was now a rare occurrence. A smile would grace his lips as he thought about Hinata. Maybe this was the best thing that could have happened to him. Maybe he could get Hinata to fall in love with him and breaking the news to her would not be as hard as he thought.

“My dear little Hinata, I will make you mine.”

Hinata would giggle as she watched Kiba sneeze from getting a little too close to one to the flowers he had picked. Kiba on the other hand would sniffle as a toothy grin came over his face. `She is so cute when she laughs,' he thought as he inched closer over to her.

“Bless you Kiba-kun.” Hinata brought a hand up to over her lips to hide that mirthful smile of hers. She could not stop herself from the bashful reaction.

Kiba shook his head as he reached out to Hinata and placed the little yellow flower behind her hair behind her right ear. His grin would soften into a smile as he tenderly let his fingers run over a few strands of her silken hair, as his hand would rest upon the ground he was sitting upon.

“Lovely…” Kiba whispered the word softly. The word was more of a thought and was not suppose to be one that passed his lips. Blinking he sat there as he realized what he said as Hinata's cheeks turned a bright red. Hinata had brought her hand about from her mouth to her heated cheek trying to hide the blush. No one other than her mother really ever gave her a compliment. She would lower her head in a vain attempt to hide from his gaze.

Kiba himself could not help but to blush a little himself at how he just blurted out such a thing. However, her reaction was to his liking. She did not try to run away after he said it and he was closer to her than they really had ever been before. Kiba scooted even closer to her as he lowered his head a measure trying to catch her eyes with her constantly lowering head. There was an alternative reason behind it as well, to maybe steal a kiss from her as well.

Hinata had still yet to pull away from the increasingly close Kiba. She would watch her friend begin to close the gap between them. Her heart began to thump away in her chest. She could not believe this was happening. Hinata had never looked at Kiba in such a light. He was always nothing more than a good friend and here they were. Her thoughts would leap away from him to Naruto. Even though they had not spoken much to one another, she still heard a certain untold love for Konoha's number one loudest ninja.

“Hinata…”Kiba would hiss out as he exhaled. He had been waiting for this chance. Letting his eyes wander shut he placed his lips against hers in a soft little kiss. It was so soft that it surprised Kiba he could be so gentle with someone.

Hinata's eyes would widen as their lips met. She had longed for Naruto to be her first kiss but it was Kiba. Letting her lid shut she would sink into the kiss since it was her first she might as well enjoy it.

-

“Hinata!” A young Neji came bounding through the garden to where Hinata was sitting and playing. A bright smile was upon the child's face as he came to stand over his young cousin who was picking a few wild flowers that had grown in the family garden.

“Whatcha doing?” He would inquire as he kneeled down before her as he looked to her fist closed around the stems of the flowers.

Hinata would blush deeply as she scooted back from Neji. She would bring up the flowers and placed them before her face as if she was attempting to hide behind the rainbow of colors.

“Come on Hinata, it is me…Nii-san. You don't haveta hide.” Neji giggled as he reached up pushing away her hand revealing Hinata's face. “Do you wanna play with me Hinata-chan?”

Hinata would simply nod her head as a bright grin spread over her face.

“Then let's play house! I will be the dad and you will be the mom!” An almost devious smile came to Neji's lips as he sat there.

“Okay…” Hinata reached out and handed him the flowers she had just picked. Her hands would then fist in her lap where she sat unmoving.

“You're kawaii Hinata-chan.” Neji quickly leaned into Hinata and placed a quick little kiss upon her lips before he leapt up and ran away. “We will play another time!” He yelled back to her as he rushed away from where he came.

-

Hinata quickly broke the kiss with Kiba as she gasped softly. She would rise up to her feet nearly stumbling as she rose up and took a step back.

“G-gomen Kiba-kun…I…I h-have to…go.” With that, Hinata turned and swiftly ran down the path they had come down earlier that morning. Her heart was racing in her chest as a million thoughts spun about in her mind. `Kiba was not my first kiss, Neji was,' which was the main thought that kept surfacing above all other thoughts.

Kiba smirked as he watched her run away. He would sit up and fold his arms over his chest. `I must have scared her, but at least she kissed back before she ran. There is more hope than I thought.' He would chuckle to himself as he looked down to the ground she had been sitting. Reaching out he picked up the backpack and basket she had left. Fingers would lightly run over the fabric of the bag. `This will give me a good excuse to visit her tomorrow.'
