Naruto's breath hitched and he felt his erection getting heavy. Gaara was the first boy he ever loved and he felt ashamed for kissing Sasuke before him, but he never was sure of the red-head's feelings. Now, it seemed, Gaara was attracted to him as well. The thoughts of all the things he could finally say and do with Gaara made his cock twitch in the confines of his jeans and he leaned up to brush noses with Gaara again, eyes half mast.
The boys' mouths were open, breathing each other's air. Naruto couldn't handle it anymore, the tingling in his body giving in, he leaned his face up closer to Gaara's and let his lips ghost across his once, twice, before backing up.
Gaara gently rubbed his thumb across each whisker mark on Naruto's cheek, forever wanting to know where he gained these scars, he opened his mouth and a breathy, "How?" escaped his lips.
Naruto was staring into Gaara's soft baby blue eyes, watching the fascination cross them as he traced Naruto's scars. Lost in his own thoughts on the name one would call Gaara's eyes, because they were not fully blue, nor green. Before he could fall in to the back of his mind coming up with the different color-combos to give Gaara his eye color, he just barely heard Gaara's question.
Eyes became clear as it sunk in to Naruto what Gaara was asking. All wonton feelings slowly dissipated and he sighed with disappointment, and some relief. 'Things were about to get out of hand,' he thought to himself as he placed his hand over Gaara‘s fingers on his cheek.
The red-head looked away from the scars and saw Naruto looking back at him seriously. Looks like the fun and games will have to wait for another day. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"These scars, birthmarks, I don't even know, are a part of why I was gone," Naruto began.
Gaara pulled back from Naruto and sat Indian-style next to him, Naruto's hand not letting go of his own. He scrunched his eyebrows at the blonde's words, he knew Naruto was an orphan so that explained why he never truly knew how those marks appeared on his face. For all he knew, they were always there. But, what did they have to do with his disappearance... unless, he went searching for his family.
"Did you…"
"Yes," Naruto interrupted, "I did some digging, and I thought I had a lead. I left as soon as my last class for the year was over. My bags were packed days beforehand, and I had a taxi waiting outside the Main building for me, to take me to the airport."
Gaara thought back to the last time he had seen Naruto, and now that he looked back, he could understand why Naruto was being distant, yet all over him that last day. Quiet when he had the chance, but made a big deal about it finally being summer and no more teachers and their dirty looks he’d so happily sing-songed when surrounded by his friends and teammates. Every time he saw Gaara that last half day, he would run up to him and glomp him in his oh-so-loving way. He'd nip him on the shoulder and bear hug him until he thought his lungs were going to collapse, and then Naruto would let go and run off to his next class.
"Where..."
"Japan."
"What?! You went alone? Naruto.."
"I had no choice--"
"Bullshit!" Gaara cut in. "You could have told me and I would have come with you, and you know it!" Gaara's voice was just notches away from screaming at his best friend by now. Clearly pissed in not being asked to help Naruto in finding out his past.
"I could not, would not, and will not-ever- put you in danger Gaara," Naruto said, squeezing the hand he had yet to let go.
"What danger? Naruto, what are you talking about?" Gaara's head was already spinning and he knew this was just the beginning. To have some Tylenol right now would have been bliss to help the future headache he knew the day would result in.
"Just… just let me tell you all the details. No interruptions. You'll understand everything once I'm done. Just be patient with me, it's a long story," Naruto sighed, using his free hand to rub at his eyes, trying to press out the stress and pain he was already feeling about reliving his summer.
His hand rubbing against his sore face, he remembered the ice packs left forgotten at the end of the bed. He leaned down and snagged one for Gaara and one for himself. He placed the frozen pack over his cheek and reached back down to grab his melon flavored Ramune.
Sitting his pack on his knee and reclaiming his other hand from Gaara, he placed the Ramune between his crossed legs after he tore the wrapping off. Unsnapping the plastic piece to open his bottle, he placed the little tube-like device over the marble stuck in the mouth of the lid. Pushing his weight down into the bottle, a pop was heard and the sounds of the carbonation sizzling within the glass.
Moving the bottle back and forth, watching the marble rock to and fro, clinking each time it met a side, Naruto gathered his wits about him, before he changed his mind on what he would really share with Gaara today.
“Sasuke and I have decided we would like to get to know each other on a more personal level,” was the first thing Naruto blurted out to his best friend.
~~~~~~
Gaara sat patiently, watching Naruto open his Ramune and… stall. He kept half his face hidden behind the ice pack Naruto grabbed for the two of them. When the blonde’s words hit him, his mouth fell slack.
“W-What?!”
“Ano…” The blonde murmured, taking a sip of his drink, offering it to Gaara a second later.
The red-head shook his head, mouth still gaping at Naruto. What was the blonde thinking?
“Hmm… I like you Gaara,” holding his hand up, Naruto silenced anything the red-head may say. “Let me get this all out on the table first, and then I want to hear what you have to say, ok?”
Gaara nodded, but was fuming over how Naruto was being so wishy-washy with him.
“I have liked you for quite some time now, and I have honestly been too afraid to make a move because our friendship is so precious to me.” Naruto lowered his gaze, obviously thinking back to some of the more fond moments the two have shared in all the years they’ve known each other.
“As you know, Sasuke and I have also been rivals since the day we first met.”
Gaara couldn’t help but cringe at the small smile Naruto was showing, surely lost in a memory between the dark-haired Uchiha and himself.
Naruto lifted his face back to meet Gaara’s eyes so he could continue on. “You know I literally suck when it comes to dating. Being so clumsy with words and… I don’t know. But, I’ve never really liked anyone before you. And I think if things didn’t go the way they did the day I met Sasuke, I would have probably liked him back then too. But as fate decided to make us mortal enemies,” Naruto chuckled, “it took some time before I found the teme rather attractive.
I promised Sasuke I would consider a relationship with him, because I really think that he is something I need in my life. But, I also need you.”
Gaara’s gaze lowered the more Naruto spoke of Sasuke, but when he said the last thing, his eyes shot up to meet cerulean, blazing with passion.
Naruto reached over and grabbed hold of the hand he had been holding earlier. “The two of you are what keeps me going on most days. Sasuke is a raging ocean that challenges me, pushes me until I find my limit. When calm, his presence is always there, lapping at my mind to remind me he will not go away, like the waves hitting the shore, tickling my toes. You Gaara, are the sandy beach that keeps me dry and warm. You are my peace. I bask in the heat you bring me and the never-ending specs of sand never wash away, like how my mind always comes to think of you when I need something stable to hold me up.”
Naruto took a swig of his Ramune, once again offering the bottle to the red-head, this time Gaara took the proffered drink to wet his parched mouth.
The blonde cleared his throat before continuing. “So, ano… I know you saw Sasuke and me making out earlier today. And from the bloodshot eyes I saw when you came into Home-Ec afterwards is any clue, it really upset you. I want to apologize for my stupidity to let that happen,” the tanned hand squeezed the pale one to make his apology physical, not just verbal.
“Unfortunately, I do before I think sometimes, and I obviously wasn’t thinking at the time. But after my brain began to focus I realized my mistake and that I had to have hurt you. I never want to hurt you, Gaara. Never.”
Taking an overly dramatic sigh, Naruto concluded his speech. “Right now, in the position I am in, I really do no want to make a choice between you two. You both now know how I feel, and I don’t think I could stand not having the both of you near me. Not now at least. If we have to go back to how things were, I don’t think I’d like it very much. Talking to Sasuke today really made me realize I had been missing something else in my life. You are a part of me Gaara, there is no questioning that; you could even complete me, but I think that Sasuke completes… us.”
Gaara’s eyes widened in wonder at how Naruto would think that Sasuke and himself would be compatible. Sure, the dark haired male and Naruto he could see together, as well as himself and the blonde. But Gaara and Sasuke? That was ridiculous!
“I am open for suggestions on what we should do,” came from somewhere through his fuzzy mind. Gaara focused back on the blonde sitting next to him and saw the tightness in Naruto’s features, waiting to be denied everything.
Could Gaara really turn down the man he has loved since childhood? Could he take that sunshine smile, the-deepest-shades-of-the-skies blue eyes, his heart, and destroy it by saying he wouldn‘t try?
Gaara cleared his voice before speaking, “Your happiness means the world to me, and I will do all that I can to make sure you will never lose your smile.”
Naruto’s eyes snapped up to meet Gaara’s head on. “Really?” His voice shook in disbelief.
“Aa.” It was Gaara’s turn to squeeze Naruto’s hand to make his admission real.
Azure eyes lit up as Naruto pulled the hand in his towards him, leaning in to meet Gaara half way, giving him a soft kiss to seal the deal. Pulling back, Naruto gave the red-head one of his trademark smiles, thus causing the red-head to smile in turn.
“Sasuke and I talked earlier, and he suggested we start by dating first.”
“Wait,” Gaara intervened, “Sasuke is ok with both of us being with you?”
A sly grin graced Naruto’s face. “Well, he did mention something about you having a really nice ass and it wouldn’t be that much of a problem to keep you around!” Naruto laughed heartily at the look Gaara gave him. “It’s true! Well, maybe in not so many words, but I can tell he is willing.” The blondes laughs died down to sporadic chuckles until they completely stopped.
The two sat quietly for a few moments, all silent except for the clinking the ball in the Ramune bottle made when Naruto took another sip from it. Glancing past Gaara’s shoulder, the blonde took notice of the time.
"Soro soro oitoma o…” Naruto looked at Gaara apologetically. It was getting late and he needed to get home to shower and change before meeting Sasuke at Benny’s.
The red-head’s face seemed a bit crestfallen, and it tore at Naruto’s heart.
“Oi, I know I didn’t explain my summer to you yet. I will. But, I think I will do it with Sasuke at the same time. It has been one helluva summer and I’d rather not have to retell the story more than once.”
Gaara nodded, not really understanding, but taking Naruto’s word for it anyways. He stood from the bed and gathered the now melted ice packs and waited for Naruto to follow him back downstairs.
The blonde jumped up and walked down the steps behind Gaara and they went into the kitchen to put the packs away and Naruto tossed the bottle in the recycle bin.
“I should have gotten my car before we went for pizza,” Naruto said, rubbing the back of his head, embarrassed that he had to have Gaara drive him back to the school.
Gaara turned to Naruto, a small smile on his lips, “Hn, if you would’ve went for your car I would’ve left you. It was better this way.”
The blonde’s smile grew and he hugged his best friend. Pulling away, his smile grew mischievous as he said, “Onward ho!”
~~~~~
Pulling up next to Naruto’s car, the blonde leaned over to catch Gaara’s lips with his one last time before saying he’d call him tomorrow and they’d get together to do something. The red-head nodded as he watched the fit blonde jump out of his car and stop to turn back at him.
“I’m sorry about hitting you so hard earlier, Gaara. I shouldn’t have acted out like that.“ The blonde sheepishly rubbed the back of his head in apology.
“I apologize as well. I started it. Forgive me?“
The blonde chuckled and nodded as he closed the door of the Acura RSX before he got into his car.
Pulling away, Gaara decided to go hit the YMCA to burn off some extra steam he had. This was not how he imagined his first day back to high school to be, let alone how it would be the first time he saw Naruto since summer began.
Getting a good parking spot, Gaara got out and grabbed his duffle bag from the trunk, before heading inside.
~~~~~~~
Sasuke realized he had been sitting in the empty classroom now for at least fifteen minutes, and it didn’t seem the blonde was going to be returning any time. Also realizing that he was being obedient to Naruto’s demand, made Sasuke grimace as he stood from the stool and grabbed his and Naruto’s bags before walking out of the room. The dobe was in such a rush he left his bag sitting next to Sasuke’s.
Heading to his car, he noticed that the parking lots were almost cleared out. He didn’t see signs of Gaara’s Acura, and he knew that Naruto parked somewhere around the block so he wouldn’t see his car from where he was.
Unlocking his car, he flung the two backpacks in, before sliding into the soft leather seat. Putting the key in the ignition, turning it, hearing the sound of the engine coming to life, put Sasuke at ease. The initial roar died down to a purr as the dark haired male ran his hands over the steering wheel. This was his baby. This was his art. He found this scrap of metal in a vehicle junk yard many years ago, and using his inheritance money, Sasuke rescued the classic car and restored it to the beauty it is today. It took years, but the finished piece was worth it.
Checking his mirrors, Sasuke shifted the car into reverse to back out of his parking spot, and then shifting into first gear, he pulled toward the exit.
Deciding he’d check to see if Naruto left with Gaara or went on his own, he pulled around the Sophomore Block and eventually saw the black car with Naruto’s license plates, MAKI 01.
Figuring he had no other choice but to head home to get ready for this evening, he shifted the gears before turning his car in the direction of his home.
~~~~~~
Pulling into his driveway, Sasuke was shocked to see that his brother’s Lexus RX 350 was parked in his spot. The sporty black SUV has been sitting in their garage for the last year while his brother was away in Japan for some business.
Pulling the car into his brother’s usual spot in the garage, Sasuke turned the car off and grabbed his bag, leaving Naruto’s to give to him when he saw him at Benny’s later.
Sasuke pulled his bag over his shoulder and walked into his home, the door being left unlocked since his brother was in. He went into the kitchen to set his bag down, and found his only living relative sitting at the marble island, hands wrapped around a cup which was steaming from its contents. Knowing his brother, it was just some hot cocoa since neither of them have ever cared for coffee or any of its mocha counterparts.
“Itachi, when did you get home? How come you didn‘t tell me you were coming back? I would have picked you up from the airport.” Sasuke let his bag fall next to his leg as he slid into the chair sitting across from his brother.
“About an hour ago, otouto. I didn’t want you to have to rearrange your day just to get me. How was your first day back at school?” The older Uchiha asked, lifting his cup to blow the steam from the lip of the cup before taking a tentative sip.
Annoyed, Sasuke explained that today was just a half day and he could’ve skipped it to come and get him, he is his brother, after all.
Itachi chuckled, “I’m sorry, Sasuke-kun. I’ll make sure to have you be my taxi driver next time.”
Sasuke glared at his brother but sighed in defeat. “So, how did the business trip go?”
Itachi’s eyes narrowed briefly before he leaned back in his chair. “Fine. I will have to go back, though, during winter break.”
Sasuke blinked rapidly at his brother, “Why? Aren’t you done yet? You spent a whole year there!”
“Otouto… you are whining,” Itachi chuckled at his almost grown up brother.
“Tch. Whatever. Like I care what you do,” Sasuke said, standing up, picking up his bag and making to leave the kitchen.
A deep sigh left his brother’s lips before he heard him say, “Some unexpected complications came up over the summer, and it set us back. I will have to go back and fix the error as soon as possible. But for now, I wish to catch up.”
Sighing back at his brother, but resigning his fate to Itachi for the rest of the afternoon, the younger Uchiha walked back to the chair and took his place across from the older man once again.
Looking up at his brother, a small smile graced his face before he asked, “So, what do you know of Uzumaki Naruto?”
~~~~~~~
TBC….
~~~~~~~
< br> (Yeah right! Well, I really really tried to make that my ending point, but ladygizarme (mah beta) kept saying, “nuuuuuuuuuuuu” to me… so I guess you should all thank her… cuz… here’s the rest ^__^)
~~~~~~
Sasuke was in the shower, lathering his hair up with conditioner while he thought back to his brother’s bizarre question concerning Naruto.
“So, what do you know of Uzumaki Naruto?”
Why was his brother interested in his rival? Classmate? In his possible lover?
Hiding his shock at hearing the object of his affections’ name come from his brother, he shrugged his shoulders and said he’d never heard of anyone by that odd name.
His brother’s right eyebrow rose to challenge Sasuke, but the younger Uchiha countered it with his own, causing his brother’s left brow to meet up with its partner.
Sasuke’s eyebrows decided to meet downward in the middle when he asked, “What? Should I?”
“Hn, he apparently goes to Konoha High,” the older Uchiha’s brow’s returned to normal to gauge his brother’s reaction.
Playing the part, Sasuke’s eyebrows knew what to do, and shot as far up to his hairline as was possible. “Is he a new transfer?”
Itachi’s brows dove to meet in the middle this time, “No, otouto, he’s been going there for quite some time. I--”
“Aniki!” Sasuke cut his brother off, to try to get the subject off of him and Naruto and just on Itachi and how he knows Naruto. “How do you know this kid goes to my school? What is he to you?”
His brother sighed, leaning back in his chair. “You know I have my contacts, otouto. As to what he is to me… he is my ‘unexpected complication’ I spoke of earlier. And that is all I can discuss with you, since you do not know of the boy I seek.”
Itachi stood to leave the room when Sasuke stopped him. “Aniki, if he goes to Konoha High, why would he have been a hindrance in Japan?”
Itachi chuckled, “Otouto, it’s quite simple for students to travel on their vacation.” He turned to leave again when Sasuke spoke up again.
“I don’t understand how some teenager messed up your software deal!”
“Sasuke, it is none of your concern at the moment, please ask me nothing further on the subject.” At that, the older Uchiha left the room, leaving Sasuke to his jumbled thoughts as he moved up to his room to prepare for his date with Naruto.
Rinsing out the last of the conditioner, Sasuke gave himself one last soak under the spray before plugging the shower head and turning the faucets to stop the water. Pulling open the curtain and grabbing his towel off the warmers, Sasuke quickly dried off his wet body, placing the towel around his waist when satisfied with his dryness.
He stood in front of the mirror before he did his usual routine while getting ready to go out. Shave if need be, make sure his spikes in the back are secure with the gel he uses that not even a typhoon could weaken the hold, and put his deodorant on before moving to his room to get dressed.
He stood in his closet for a good ten minutes in his black boxer briefs and white crew socks before he pulled on a pair of black worn leather pants that fit perfectly in all areas and he was able to still move freely in them so he could bend in all directions while playing pool. He pulled a black tank top on, and followed it up with a short-sleeved fishnet top. He dug out a pair of black boots, and went in search of his shelves for his wristbands and jewelry. Deciding since he had on short-sleeves he would wear his black arm warmers. He grabbed a pair made of thinner material since his style tonight was more sleek than chunky, and put his white gold Uchiha pendant necklace on since he wouldn’t be wearing his wrist band.
Stopping in front of his full-length mirror, he placed his hands on his hips as he scrutinized himself, plucking at his hair one more time before he felt himself worthy of going out.
Grabbing his keys and cell from his nightstand, he headed down the stairs and turned from the bottom steps to come face to face with his brother.
“Fuck! Itachi, what the fuck are you doing?” Sasuke stumbled back, holding on to the banister.
“Sumimasen, otouto. Were you going somewhere?” The older brother looked his brother up and down, completely repulsed at the way an Uchiha would dress.
“Obviously, aniki. Please do not wait up,” Sasuke moved around his brother and before the door closed behind him, he swore he heard his brother say something about saying hello to Naruto-kun.
~~~~~~
Sasuke pulled into Benny’s Billiards parking lot, glad that he told Naruto to come at 5, because it was already beginning to pick up and it was quarter ‘til.
The black haired teen parked and went on inside to grab him and Naruto a table to play. He went to the counter and ordered two hours of game time, figuring that would be enough time to loosen up and then go grab some food. The clerk handed him the requested two sticks, and his container of balls.
He made his way over to the lit up table with the number the guy had told him, and he set the table, getting in some practice shots while he waited for the blonde, his mind running over today’s events: Naruto, Gaara, and his brother.
~~~~~~
Naruto pulled up to his apartment complex, parking in his reserved spot. Taking the keys out of the ignition, he hopped out of the car and ran up the steps on the side of the building, to his backdoor. Flinging the keys in his hand around until the right key landed between his fingers, he then unlocked the door and walked in.
“Tadaima!” Naruto exclaimed to his empty room…
“Okaeri!” A voice in the living room called, welcoming home the resident of the apartment.
Naruto smiled, almost forgetting that he had a guest. He really hadn’t expected a reply. It was just something he had done since he could remember, announce his return home.
The blonde set his keys on the kitchen counter as he made his way into the kitchen to properly greet his, for the time being, roommate.
Sitting at his computer desk, reading what looked to be doujinshi on the ‘net, was his sophomore World History teacher, Hatake Kakashi.
The silver haired man’s uncovered eye glanced away from the screen to widen at the bruise forming on his students cheek.
“What happened, Naruto?”
Naruto scratched his cheek absently, smiling as he explained how he and Gaara got into a bit of a scuffle earlier, but everything was fine now.
The teacher nodded his head and went back to his reading.
“Well, you’ll never guess where I am going,” Naruto goaded, trying to bait Kakashi-sensei into asking him to reveal his big news.
“Hn?” was all Naruto received as the mouse was clicked to turn the page of the online doujinshi.
Rolling his eyes at his perverted sensei, and knowing he would never win in getting him excited over his life, he admitted defeat and told him without further prompting.
“I have a date with Uchiha Sasuke tonight!” Naruto smiled at his sensei but he lost his cheerfulness as the silver haired man’s eye looked at him with horror. “Nani?!” Naruto exclaimed.
“That is playing with fire, Naruto. You do realize his brother is Uchiha Itachi, ne?”
Naruto’s face flushed as he really hadn’t thought about the connection. For the last two years, Sasuke was his enemy. He knew what he needed to know. He never saw his family, let alone his brother. He didn’t need that information to best him in sports, or simply kick his ass.
“You should cancel,” Kakashi’s voice was dead serious. “This could really make things worse than they already are, Naruto.”
The blonde ran his hand through his hair from back to front, continuing down until he covered his face. “Kuso! Why couldn’t it have been anyone else’s brother!” he cried out.
Kakashi stood and walked over to the disappointed teen and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Maybe we could use this to our advantage?”
The blonde looked up, questioningly.
“If he is smitten with you, he could help us reach our goal. He could help protect you as well.” His eye crinkled, showing he was smiling under the mask he always wore.
Naruto sighed, “I really don’t want him to be caught in the middle of this, Kakashi-sensei.”
“It is probably past the point of getting him out of this. My contacts confirmed Itachi’s return to the States today.”
A groan emitted from the blonde as he walked over to his couch and flopped down. Kakashi followed suit, sitting next to his student.
“You know we will do everything in our power to keep you safe and those who are dear to you, Naruto. Our goal is so close, we can’t stop now, and especially now that the enemy is so close at hand.”
Naruto nodded, knowing Kakashi spoke the truth. “Will you follow me to the pool-hall then? I’d at least like to have this one date with Sasuke before I lay it all out on him about what his brother really is doing.”
The silver locks moved with the nod of Kakashi’s head in acceptance to the teen’s request. “Go get ready, Naruto.”
~~~~~~
Tan Timberland Euro hiking boots with leather ivory touches, crew socks, a dark pair of loose fitting jeans, a light blue polo, and a letterman jacket in Konoha’s colors (orange and blue) was Naruto’s completed look for the evening.
He took a dab of gel into his hands, rubbed them together, and fiercely brushed them through his shaggy blonde hair, leaving him with the look that he was just satisfied.
He stood in the living room, waiting for Kakashi. “Sensei~!” he whined. “We’re going to be late!”
“Ah, I’m ready.” The teacher stepped out wearing figure fitting jeans, a blue turtleneck, and his mask was removed. His bad eye was covered by his hair so no cloth would give away his identity.
“I’ll follow behind in my car, and if anything should happen, go to the safe house, ok?” The older man looked at Naruto, the belief that something really could happen coming through his words, shaking the blonde up.
“Of course, Kakashi. I realize what we are up against. I won’t mess around.”
The blonde’s face was serious and Kakashi knew he could trust him. Hell, he has trusted the blonde for quite some time now.
“Iku ze,” they both said, reaching for their keys, and walking out to their cars.

~~~~~~
Gaara sat patiently, watching Naruto open his Ramune and… stall. He kept half his face hidden behind the ice pack Naruto grabbed for the two of them. When the blonde’s words hit him, his mouth fell slack.
“W-What?!”
“Ano…” The blonde murmured, taking a sip of his drink, offering it to Gaara a second later.
The red-head shook his head, mouth still gaping at Naruto. What was the blonde thinking?
“Hmm… I like you Gaara,” holding his hand up, Naruto silenced anything the red-head may say. “Let me get this all out on the table first, and then I want to hear what you have to say, ok?”
Gaara nodded, but was fuming over how Naruto was being so wishy-washy with him.
“I have liked you for quite some time now, and I have honestly been too afraid to make a move because our friendship is so precious to me.” Naruto lowered his gaze, obviously thinking back to some of the more fond moments the two have shared in all the years they’ve known each other.
“As you know, Sasuke and I have also been rivals since the day we first met.”
Gaara couldn’t help but cringe at the small smile Naruto was showing, surely lost in a memory between the dark-haired Uchiha and himself.
Naruto lifted his face back to meet Gaara’s eyes so he could continue on. “You know I literally suck when it comes to dating. Being so clumsy with words and… I don’t know. But, I’ve never really liked anyone before you. And I think if things didn’t go the way they did the day I met Sasuke, I would have probably liked him back then too. But as fate decided to make us mortal enemies,” Naruto chuckled, “it took some time before I found the teme rather attractive.
I promised Sasuke I would consider a relationship with him, because I really think that he is something I need in my life. But, I also need you.”
Gaara’s gaze lowered the more Naruto spoke of Sasuke, but when he said the last thing, his eyes shot up to meet cerulean, blazing with passion.
Naruto reached over and grabbed hold of the hand he had been holding earlier. “The two of you are what keeps me going on most days. Sasuke is a raging ocean that challenges me, pushes me until I find my limit. When calm, his presence is always there, lapping at my mind to remind me he will not go away, like the waves hitting the shore, tickling my toes. You Gaara, are the sandy beach that keeps me dry and warm. You are my peace. I bask in the heat you bring me and the never-ending specs of sand never wash away, like how my mind always comes to think of you when I need something stable to hold me up.”
Naruto took a swig of his Ramune, once again offering the bottle to the red-head, this time Gaara took the proffered drink to wet his parched mouth.
The blonde cleared his throat before continuing. “So, ano… I know you saw Sasuke and me making out earlier today. And from the bloodshot eyes I saw when you came into Home-Ec afterwards is any clue, it really upset you. I want to apologize for my stupidity to let that happen,” the tanned hand squeezed the pale one to make his apology physical, not just verbal.
“Unfortunately, I do before I think sometimes, and I obviously wasn’t thinking at the time. But after my brain began to focus I realized my mistake and that I had to have hurt you. I never want to hurt you, Gaara. Never.”
Taking an overly dramatic sigh, Naruto concluded his speech. “Right now, in the position I am in, I really do no want to make a choice between you two. You both now know how I feel, and I don’t think I could stand not having the both of you near me. Not now at least. If we have to go back to how things were, I don’t think I’d like it very much. Talking to Sasuke today really made me realize I had been missing something else in my life. You are a part of me Gaara, there is no questioning that; you could even complete me, but I think that Sasuke completes… us.”
Gaara’s eyes widened in wonder at how Naruto would think that Sasuke and himself would be compatible. Sure, the dark haired male and Naruto he could see together, as well as himself and the blonde. But Gaara and Sasuke? That was ridiculous!
“I am open for suggestions on what we should do,” came from somewhere through his fuzzy mind. Gaara focused back on the blonde sitting next to him and saw the tightness in Naruto’s features, waiting to be denied everything.
Could Gaara really turn down the man he has loved since childhood? Could he take that sunshine smile, the-deepest-shades-of-the-skies blue eyes, his heart, and destroy it by saying he wouldn‘t try?
Gaara cleared his voice before speaking, “Your happiness means the world to me, and I will do all that I can to make sure you will never lose your smile.”
Naruto’s eyes snapped up to meet Gaara’s head on. “Really?” His voice shook in disbelief.
“Aa.” It was Gaara’s turn to squeeze Naruto’s hand to make his admission real.
Azure eyes lit up as Naruto pulled the hand in his towards him, leaning in to meet Gaara half way, giving him a soft kiss to seal the deal. Pulling back, Naruto gave the red-head one of his trademark smiles, thus causing the red-head to smile in turn.
“Sasuke and I talked earlier, and he suggested we start by dating first.”
“Wait,” Gaara intervened, “Sasuke is ok with both of us being with you?”
A sly grin graced Naruto’s face. “Well, he did mention something about you having a really nice ass and it wouldn’t be that much of a problem to keep you around!” Naruto laughed heartily at the look Gaara gave him. “It’s true! Well, maybe in not so many words, but I can tell he is willing.” The blondes laughs died down to sporadic chuckles until they completely stopped.
The two sat quietly for a few moments, all silent except for the clinking the ball in the Ramune bottle made when Naruto took another sip from it. Glancing past Gaara’s shoulder, the blonde took notice of the time.
"Soro soro oitoma o…” Naruto looked at Gaara apologetically. It was getting late and he needed to get home to shower and change before meeting Sasuke at Benny’s.
The red-head’s face seemed a bit crestfallen, and it tore at Naruto’s heart.
“Oi, I know I didn’t explain my summer to you yet. I will. But, I think I will do it with Sasuke at the same time. It has been one helluva summer and I’d rather not have to retell the story more than once.”
Gaara nodded, not really understanding, but taking Naruto’s word for it anyways. He stood from the bed and gathered the now melted ice packs and waited for Naruto to follow him back downstairs.
The blonde jumped up and walked down the steps behind Gaara and they went into the kitchen to put the packs away and Naruto tossed the bottle in the recycle bin.
“I should have gotten my car before we went for pizza,” Naruto said, rubbing the back of his head, embarrassed that he had to have Gaara drive him back to the school.
Gaara turned to Naruto, a small smile on his lips, “Hn, if you would’ve went for your car I would’ve left you. It was better this way.”
The blonde’s smile grew and he hugged his best friend. Pulling away, his smile grew mischievous as he said, “Onward ho!”
~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Sasuke realized he had been sitting in the empty classroom now for at least fifteen minutes, and it didn’t seem the blonde was going to be returning any time. Also realizing that he was being obedient to Naruto’s demand, made Sasuke grimace as he stood from the stool and grabbed his and Naruto’s bags before walking out of the room. The dobe was in such a rush he left his bag sitting next to Sasuke’s.
Heading to his car, he noticed that the parking lots were almost cleared out. He didn’t see signs of Gaara’s Acura, and he knew that Naruto parked somewhere around the block so he wouldn’t see his car from where he was.
Unlocking his car, he flung the two backpacks in, before sliding into the soft leather seat. Putting the key in the ignition, turning it, hearing the sound of the engine coming to life, put Sasuke at ease. The initial roar died down to a purr as the dark haired male ran his hands over the steering wheel. This was his baby. This was his art. He found this scrap of metal in a vehicle junk yard many years ago, and using his inheritance money, Sasuke rescued the classic car and restored it to the beauty it is today. It took years, but the finished piece was worth it.
Checking his mirrors, Sasuke shifted the car into reverse to back out of his parking spot, and then shifting into first gear, he pulled toward the exit.
Deciding he’d check to see if Naruto left with Gaara or went on his own, he pulled around the Sophomore Block and eventually saw the black car with Naruto’s license plates, MAKI 01.
Figuring he had no other choice but to head home to get ready for this evening, he shifted the gears before turning his car in the direction of his home.
~~~~~~

~~~~~~~
< br> (Yeah right! Well, I really really tried to make that my ending point, but ladygizarme (mah beta) kept saying, “nuuuuuuuuuuuu” to me… so I guess you should all thank her… cuz… here’s the rest ^__^)
~~~~~~
Sasuke was in the shower, lathering his hair up with conditioner while he thought back to his brother’s bizarre question concerning Naruto.
“So, what do you know of Uzumaki Naruto?”
Why was his brother interested in his rival? Classmate? In his possible lover?
Hiding his shock at hearing the object of his affections’ name come from his brother, he shrugged his shoulders and said he’d never heard of anyone by that odd name.
His brother’s right eyebrow rose to challenge Sasuke, but the younger Uchiha countered it with his own, causing his brother’s left brow to meet up with its partner.
Sasuke’s eyebrows decided to meet downward in the middle when he asked, “What? Should I?”
“Hn, he apparently goes to Konoha High,” the older Uchiha’s brow’s returned to normal to gauge his brother’s reaction.
Playing the part, Sasuke’s eyebrows knew what to do, and shot as far up to his hairline as was possible. “Is he a new transfer?”
Itachi’s brows dove to meet in the middle this time, “No, otouto, he’s been going there for quite some time. I--”
“Aniki!” Sasuke cut his brother off, to try to get the subject off of him and Naruto and just on Itachi and how he knows Naruto. “How do you know this kid goes to my school? What is he to you?”
His brother sighed, leaning back in his chair. “You know I have my contacts, otouto. As to what he is to me… he is my ‘unexpected complication’ I spoke of earlier. And that is all I can discuss with you, since you do not know of the boy I seek.”
Itachi stood to leave the room when Sasuke stopped him. “Aniki, if he goes to Konoha High, why would he have been a hindrance in Japan?”
Itachi chuckled, “Otouto, it’s quite simple for students to travel on their vacation.” He turned to leave again when Sasuke spoke up again.
“I don’t understand how some teenager messed up your software deal!”
“Sasuke, it is none of your concern at the moment, please ask me nothing further on the subject.” At that, the older Uchiha left the room, leaving Sasuke to his jumbled thoughts as he moved up to his room to prepare for his date with Naruto.
Rinsing out the last of the conditioner, Sasuke gave himself one last soak under the spray before plugging the shower head and turning the faucets to stop the water. Pulling open the curtain and grabbing his towel off the warmers, Sasuke quickly dried off his wet body, placing the towel around his waist when satisfied with his dryness.
He stood in front of the mirror before he did his usual routine while getting ready to go out. Shave if need be, make sure his spikes in the back are secure with the gel he uses that not even a typhoon could weaken the hold, and put his deodorant on before moving to his room to get dressed.
He stood in his closet for a good ten minutes in his black boxer briefs and white crew socks before he pulled on a pair of black worn leather pants that fit perfectly in all areas and he was able to still move freely in them so he could bend in all directions while playing pool. He pulled a black tank top on, and followed it up with a short-sleeved fishnet top. He dug out a pair of black boots, and went in search of his shelves for his wristbands and jewelry. Deciding since he had on short-sleeves he would wear his black arm warmers. He grabbed a pair made of thinner material since his style tonight was more sleek than chunky, and put his white gold Uchiha pendant necklace on since he wouldn’t be wearing his wrist band.
Stopping in front of his full-length mirror, he placed his hands on his hips as he scrutinized himself, plucking at his hair one more time before he felt himself worthy of going out.
Grabbing his keys and cell from his nightstand, he headed down the stairs and turned from the bottom steps to come face to face with his brother.
“Fuck! Itachi, what the fuck are you doing?” Sasuke stumbled back, holding on to the banister.
“Sumimasen, otouto. Were you going somewhere?” The older brother looked his brother up and down, completely repulsed at the way an Uchiha would dress.
“Obviously, aniki. Please do not wait up,” Sasuke moved around his brother and before the door closed behind him, he swore he heard his brother say something about saying hello to Naruto-kun.
~~~~~~
Sasuke pulled into Benny’s Billiards parking lot, glad that he told Naruto to come at 5, because it was already beginning to pick up and it was quarter ‘til.
The black haired teen parked and went on inside to grab him and Naruto a table to play. He went to the counter and ordered two hours of game time, figuring that would be enough time to loosen up and then go grab some food. The clerk handed him the requested two sticks, and his container of balls.
He made his way over to the lit up table with the number the guy had told him, and he set the table, getting in some practice shots while he waited for the blonde, his mind running over today’s events: Naruto, Gaara, and his brother.
~~~~~~
Naruto pulled up to his apartment complex, parking in his reserved spot. Taking the keys out of the ignition, he hopped out of the car and ran up the steps on the side of the building, to his backdoor. Flinging the keys in his hand around until the right key landed between his fingers, he then unlocked the door and walked in.
“Tadaima!” Naruto exclaimed to his empty room…
“Okaeri!” A voice in the living room called, welcoming home the resident of the apartment.
Naruto smiled, almost forgetting that he had a guest. He really hadn’t expected a reply. It was just something he had done since he could remember, announce his return home.
The blonde set his keys on the kitchen counter as he made his way into the kitchen to properly greet his, for the time being, roommate.
Sitting at his computer desk, reading what looked to be doujinshi on the ‘net, was his sophomore World History teacher, Hatake Kakashi.
The silver haired man’s uncovered eye glanced away from the screen to widen at the bruise forming on his students cheek.
“What happened, Naruto?”
Naruto scratched his cheek absently, smiling as he explained how he and Gaara got into a bit of a scuffle earlier, but everything was fine now.
The teacher nodded his head and went back to his reading.
“Well, you’ll never guess where I am going,” Naruto goaded, trying to bait Kakashi-sensei into asking him to reveal his big news.
“Hn?” was all Naruto received as the mouse was clicked to turn the page of the online doujinshi.
Rolling his eyes at his perverted sensei, and knowing he would never win in getting him excited over his life, he admitted defeat and told him without further prompting.
“I have a date with Uchiha Sasuke tonight!” Naruto smiled at his sensei but he lost his cheerfulness as the silver haired man’s eye looked at him with horror. “Nani?!” Naruto exclaimed.
“That is playing with fire, Naruto. You do realize his brother is Uchiha Itachi, ne?”
Naruto’s face flushed as he really hadn’t thought about the connection. For the last two years, Sasuke was his enemy. He knew what he needed to know. He never saw his family, let alone his brother. He didn’t need that information to best him in sports, or simply kick his ass.
“You should cancel,” Kakashi’s voice was dead serious. “This could really make things worse than they already are, Naruto.”
The blonde ran his hand through his hair from back to front, continuing down until he covered his face. “Kuso! Why couldn’t it have been anyone else’s brother!” he cried out.
Kakashi stood and walked over to the disappointed teen and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Maybe we could use this to our advantage?”
The blonde looked up, questioningly.
“If he is smitten with you, he could help us reach our goal. He could help protect you as well.” His eye crinkled, showing he was smiling under the mask he always wore.
Naruto sighed, “I really don’t want him to be caught in the middle of this, Kakashi-sensei.”
“It is probably past the point of getting him out of this. My contacts confirmed Itachi’s return to the States today.”
A groan emitted from the blonde as he walked over to his couch and flopped down. Kakashi followed suit, sitting next to his student.
“You know we will do everything in our power to keep you safe and those who are dear to you, Naruto. Our goal is so close, we can’t stop now, and especially now that the enemy is so close at hand.”
Naruto nodded, knowing Kakashi spoke the truth. “Will you follow me to the pool-hall then? I’d at least like to have this one date with Sasuke before I lay it all out on him about what his brother really is doing.”
The silver locks moved with the nod of Kakashi’s head in acceptance to the teen’s request. “Go get ready, Naruto.”
~~~~~~
Tan Timberland Euro hiking boots with leather ivory touches, crew socks, a dark pair of loose fitting jeans, a light blue polo, and a letterman jacket in Konoha’s colors (orange and blue) was Naruto’s completed look for the evening.
He took a dab of gel into his hands, rubbed them together, and fiercely brushed them through his shaggy blonde hair, leaving him with the look that he was just satisfied.
He stood in the living room, waiting for Kakashi. “Sensei~!” he whined. “We’re going to be late!”
“Ah, I’m ready.” The teacher stepped out wearing figure fitting jeans, a blue turtleneck, and his mask was removed. His bad eye was covered by his hair so no cloth would give away his identity.
“I’ll follow behind in my car, and if anything should happen, go to the safe house, ok?” The older man looked at Naruto, the belief that something really could happen coming through his words, shaking the blonde up.
“Of course, Kakashi. I realize what we are up against. I won’t mess around.”
The blonde’s face was serious and Kakashi knew he could trust him. Hell, he has trusted the blonde for quite some time now.
“Iku ze,” they both said, reaching for their keys, and walking out to their cars.
