Chapter Two

 

The Assignments

 

 

“I am…”

 

The ninja pause reaching up to untie their mask, black hair tumbled down and blues eyes, met Kakashi's widened stare.

 

“Midoriko. And you are?”

 

Kakashi stared at the woman unable to answer, whatever he had been expecting she was not it. Suddenly Naruto and Sasuke showed up and with them was Tsunade.

 

“Kakashi, tell me what happened here, Naruto said Sakura was hurt, badly.”

 

“Tsunade- sama, Sakura is hurt but right now an even bigger problem has arisen.” Kakashi flicked his gaze toward Midoriko.

 

Tsunade's eyes widened, “K..Kimiko, what are you doing here?”

 

Kakashi raised and eyebrow, Kimiko was it.

 

The cat growled at the new comers, but at the warning glance from Kakashi and the gesture to peace from Tsunade, it quieted.

 

Midoriko shook her head, “I'm sorry Hokage- sama, my name is Midoriko, Kimiko is my twin sister.” She held up her hand, “Before you say a thing, I know that the Mizukage is only supposed to have one daughter, but actually there we're twins, you see that way no matter what happened nobody would ever be able to kill the heir of the water country. It was perfect. If I died Kimiko would take over, and if she died I would take over, we were trained from birth to literally be the same person. The intent was to protect Mist and its secrets at all costs. And now that time has come. Hokage- sama, I beg you, my father is dead, Kimiko has been captured so I have to assume she refused to say a word and was killed, so I am the only one left, we have to save the village.”

 

Tsunade looked sharply at Midoriko, “Does anyone else know that there are two of you?”

 

“Only the doctor and my father, my mother is dead and the doctor is mute.”

 

Tsunade nodded, “I'm not sure what to do next this situation is very delicate, but then again any situation involving a conflict between villages usually is.” She sighed, “Midoriko, I am going to be blunt, Konoha is still recovering from the Sound invasion from five years ago, the loss of so many people and the damage that was inflicted hit many people very hard. So I understand where you are coming from, your village is facing the same thing. If we can I will assemble the strategists and see if there is anything we can do. For the meantime I am putting you in the care of Sasuke.”

 

The young man jumped slightly at the sound of his name, “What? You want me to look after her?”

 

Tsunade nodded, “I am taking you out of missions for awhile you haven't rested since, that incident last year, besides I think it would be good for you to have a woman in the Uchiha complex, it might keep the council off my back for a few days, they really do what to see you get married.”

 

Sasuke rolled his eyes and looked at the girl on the ground. She pretty he'd give her that but he wasn't really looking to settle down just yet.

 

“Um… Hokage- sama, that is hardly appropriate…it might be later called into question…”Midoriko spoke up, not exactly keen on staying with the cold man in fount of her.

 

Tsunade waved her hand in a dismissive gesture, “Don't worry, think of him as your body guard, you too Sasuke if it makes you feel better think of this as a bodyguard assignment.

 

Sasuke grunted his agreement, not that he could disagree with a direct request from the Hokage.

 

“Come on Woman, you need to visit the hospital before I take you home.”

 

Midoriko sputtered indignantly.

 

“Oi, Bastard you can't go talking to her like that.” Naruto jumped in seeing his chance and running head first like always.

 

“Shut up Dobe.” Sasuke snapped back.

 

“Make me, Bastard.”

 

“Name the time and place, Dobe, I'll thrash wherever, whenever.

 

“Oh you two give it a rest already,” a voice from the ground said sounding rather annoyed, “Some of us are trying to be unconscious.” The growled that accompanied it quelled any further argument.

 

“Sakura- chan are you alright?” The blond haired chunin switched his attention to the pink haired kunoichi on the ground.

 

“I feel like I've been sparring with Gai- sensei but other then that I'm fine.”

 

Kakashi chucked, “Ok team you have your orders, Sasuke stop sulking and take Midoriko- san to the Hospital, Naruto stay here and wait for the Med team and explain to them they are not needed. Tsunade- sama if you would like we can move this to my apartment and you can take a look at Sakura- chan there.”

 

Tsunade nodded. “Very well, let's go.”

 

Kakashi bent down to pick up Sakura, when he noticed the scroll by her side, “Tsunade, read this I think it might help explain what going on.”

 

They moved quickly back to Kakashi's apartment the cat followed.

 

“Um, Sakura?”

 

“Yes, Tsunade- sama.”

 

“Is your friend going to stay with you?”

 

“I don't know, I can ask her if you want me to?”

 

“If you would.”

 

Sakura turned to the cat, Cat kin are you going to stay with me? The cat stared back. I shall, you need a guardian, Kitten. Sakura frowned I'm seven teen years old and a chunin of Konoha. Sakura didn't add any of her self doubts but even as she said it she felt them creep into her mind. You still need me Kitten, you may be all grown up according to humans but you're still a kitten in cat terms. Sakura grumbled there wasn't much she could say to that. What is you name anyway? Sakura changed to topic. Clever, Kitten, my name is Shi'i'na. Nice to meet you, I'm Sakura. I know, Kitten, we all know your name.

 

“Sakura!”

 

The sound of a human calling her name brought her back to reality. “Sorry, Kakashi- sensei what was that?”

 

“Sakura, I've been calling your name for the past minute what did he say?”

 

“She, She said that she would stay with my and that I needed a guardian, so she would suffice.”

 

Tsunade looked at the cat, “I can't help but agree. Sakura this has never happened before, so I am going to leave you in the guardianship of an experienced jounin. Don't worry about your parents I will personally explain this to them. We can't have you running around when we don't know how this will affect you.”

 

Sakura frowned but refrained from making the biting comment that was working its way to her lips. Instead she gritted her teeth and asked, “Who will be my jounin baby sitter?”

 

Tsunade looked surprised, “Who else, obviously the one who know this situation the best.”

 

Kakashi turned to look at her, “Um… Hokage- sama I have to…”

 

“Nice try Kakashi but no you aren't getting out of this, your assignment is to look after Sakura. I want you to note any changes. Before you ask why you, you are her teacher so you know her best, besides the shiringan can tell you how her chakra is changing.”

 

“But…”

 

Tsunade held up her hand, “Enough, Kakashi don't act like Sasuke. Now Sakura I will have you things sent to Kakashi's apartment so don't worry about a thing. I want you to focus on any changes you feel in yourself, got it? If anything strange happens I want you to tell Kakashi or myself right away. Now you have your missions, I expect a full report by the end of the week.”

 

“Yes, Hokage- sama,” they both said tiredly.

 

It was going to be a long week.

Wow, I actually got this out on time! I'm impressed. I can't vouch from its perfection though. If anyone sees any thing that needs correcting let me know. (I always miss something)
