Chapter Three

The Day without End

Neither of them spoke a word after Tsunade left. Kakashi carried Sakura to his apartment and began to arrange a place for her on the couch. Sakura just sat where Kakashi had left her, her body was still too sore to move. Shi'i'na lay quietly by her side.

“So…” said Sakura trailed off awkwardly. She wanted to break the deafening silence but she hadn't really ever spent much time with Kakashi, he might be her teacher but she didn't know him, and as a result had no clue about what to say. Nothing she thought of sounded right. `How's it going?' yeah right `What's new?' the situation that's what and Sakura wasn't quite sure she wanted to talk about it.

Kakashi turned at the sound of her voice. Then he continued to watch her as she struggled to make conversation her emotions running rampant all over her face. Deciding to save her some embarrassment Kakashi broke the silence.

“Ok, Sakura you will be staying here for a week at least and at most only the Godaime knows so let's make a few guide lines to make this as easy as possible for both of us”
Sakura nodded, still unable to find the words she was looking for.

“Alright then, first things first, welcome to my home there is food in the refrigerator feel free the help yourself if you have any requests ask me and I'll see what I can do. Second I know this is going to be awkward but I only have one bathroom so we will have to share. Third I do have dogs that wander in and out so don't mind them,” then thinking for a moment he added, “that won't be a problem for your cat?”

Shi'i'na hissed softly.

Sakura smiled, “Shi'i'na says that she has better things to do then to bother your oversized barking rats.”

Kakashi raised an eyebrow. “Barking rats..?”

Sakura looked over at the panther. Who in turned growled and left the room via the window and climbed into the tree to enjoy then sun. Sakura turned back to Kakashi, “She doesn't hold dogs in very high regard…”

“I can tell,” Kakashi glanced at the cat in the tree, then he turned back to Sakura “What did you call her?”

“Shi'i'na,” The half hiss that escaped Sakura's mouth was not only entirely incomprehensible to Kakashi but completely unpronounceable.

“In human?” Kakashi asked after two failed attempts to say the cat's given name.

Sakura thought for a moment, “I suppose, Shina is the closest I can come.”

Kakashi nodded. “Now all we have to worry about is your clothes and other personal items, I believe Tsunade- sama said she would send it by but… for now you can borrow some of my stuff.”

Sakura blushed, but as she started to protest, she looked down at her blood stained clothes and reconsidered.

Kakashi followed the path of Sakura's eyes, however they didn't seem to see the same thing, while Sakura frowned at her blood stained clothes Kakashi found his eyes trailing the down her curvy seventeen year old body.

“Kakashi- sensei?” Sakura looked at her teacher confused, he was looking at her strangely.

Kakashi pulled out of his daze. Looking up at Sakura's flushing face, it finally dawned on him what he had been doing.

“I was… going to get you some clothes.” Kakashi disappeared into his room. `What was that?' `She is my student for crying out loud' the sensible part of his mind berated him, yet in the back of his mind he couldn't help wonder, `Why didn't I notice it before?'

“Kakashi-sensei are you alright?”

Kakashi began to rummage through his closet feeling guilty over his less then pure thoughts. Returning quickly to the main room Kakashi handed Sakura the shirt and pants.

Sakura took the clothes from her teacher and headed down the hall toward the bathroom. Striping off her blood soaked garments, Sakura splashed her face with cool water to try and quell the red stain on her face, not due entirely to the blood. `Why was Kakashi-sensei looking at me like that? He was looking at me like he wanted to devour me.' Sakura face renewed its rosy hue.

“What am I thinking,” she muttered to herself, “Kakashi- sensei doesn't think of me like that I must be imagining it. Yes, that's it, I'm over tired and in shock I need to clam down. Ok here we go.”

Sakura emerged from the bathroom carring her dirty clothes away from her body.

“Um, Kakashi- sensei, what do you want me to do with my dirty clothes?”

Kakashi looked over at her, regarding her quietly. I slender form was completely dwarfed by his oversized clothes. Sakura had never been really tall but neither had she been really short. However as fate would have it she was doomed never to reach more then 5'3”.

“I'll take them Sakura.”

Sakura early relinquished her gore sodden clothes to her teacher before turning toward the couch.

“Kakashi-sensei, I'm tired, I think its time for me to go to bed. We can talk some more tomorrow morning but today has been very long.”

Kakashi nodded not really listening to what she said. The sight of her in his clothes as comfortable in them as if she belonged there stirred something in him. Something primal, and at the moment it was all he could do not to act on it.

“Alright then Sakura, we will talk tomorrow.”

Sakura yawned and lay down, curling up under the blanket on the couch. She was so tired she completely missed the emotional turmoil in her teacher's eyes.

Kakashi went to dispose of the stained garment. When Shi'i'na leaped back inside and stood before him. Kakashi eyed the cat carefully. She growled softly then went to lay be her charge. Kakashi shook his head, and swore softly.

“I must be hallucinating.” He muttered at he left. He could have sworn her heard the cat say, “You'll do.”

Comments:
I apologize for this being as late as it is and for it I will try to have the next chapter out tomorrow. However in my own defense this is the third rewrite of this chapter and I still am not completely satisfied with it. More then anything it is a transition chapter merely here to get the ball rolling, if you will, the next chapter will be better I promise.
