Chapter Four

 

The Guardians

 

Sakura awoke the next morning sore but oddly warm and content. She glanced around her taking in her surroundings as she had been trained since childhood.

 

You smell like the man.

 

Sakura jumped at Shi'i'na's voice. Then glanced down and realized she had fallen asleep in Kakashi's clothes. She inhaled deeply and realized she too could smell his particular sent and the way it clung to her.

 

“How can I do this?” she asked, her voice trembling.

 

Shi'i'na purred in the cat equivalent to a chuckle. Kitten, you are cat kin. Any cat worth her salt can pick up such a distinct scent. You have been marked as his.

 

Sakura sat bolt up. “What?!” What are you talking about?”

 

Shi'i'na looked over at her lazily. Silly kitten you are covered with his sent it is a clear indication that you are under his protection.

 

Sakura took a deep breath. “I don't think he meant for that.”

 

“I didn't mean for what?” Kakashi asked as he entered the room. He had just gotten back from informing the boys that they would not be training together today.

 

A blush spread over her nose and stained both cheeks. Sakura glance over at Shi'i'na, but the cat had decided to busy herself with grooming leaving Sakura to fend for herself.

 

“Its nothing, just a comment Shina made.”

 

Kakashi shrugged and accepted the statement without question, outwardly. On the inside however he filed it away to examine later.

 

“Ok then, today our first order of business is to see Tsunade-sama, she indicated she was interested in your new abilities and I'm sure you're eager to learn them as well.”

 

Sakura nodded.

 

“Alright then, before you woke up someone brought over your things so if you want to take a shower and change before we go I suggest you hurry up.”

 

Sakura didn't reply, took up her clothes and headed for the bathroom. She changed slowly, thinking about her situation.

 

`New power, strong new abilities, it is what I wished for wasn't it? Then how come it suddenly feels like I cheated.'

 

Sakura and Kakashi left the apartment, once she finished changing and headed for the Godaime's office.

 

When they arrived they were ushered into Tsunade's office without question even though Shi'i'na accompanied them. “Looks like she is expecting us ne?”

 

Sakura smiled up at Kakashi a little worriedly, “I guess.”

 

“Is there something wrong Sakura?” Kakashi asked easily having seen the look of worry on her face.

 

Sakura was saved from answering however because Tsunade walked into the room.

 

“Good Morning. Sakura, Kakashi I hope there have been no troubles so far.”

 

Kakashi answered with his trademark coolness, “Nothing at all Tsunade- sama, actually things have been going quite smoothly.”

 

Tsunade turned back to Sakura, “Ok now then let's get started on how to deal with what's happening to you. From what Kakashi told me you seem to have gained a blood line limit that gives you an affiliation with cats, panthers most strongly from what it seems.”

 

Shi'i'na growled causing everyone to look over. “She says I am more than affiliated with cats. I am their kin.” Sakura translated reluctantly.

 

Tsunade raised an eyebrow. “I see, well then, can you tell me what this new…family tie has done to you in terms of power and abilities?”

 

Sakura frowned, “To be honest, I don't know the full extent of what I can do, I can talk to Shina, my senses have significantly improved but in terms of jitsus and other attacks I have no idea.”

 

“Did your feline companion tell you anything?” Tsunade pressed.

 

“No, Shina told me she is to serve as my guardian because in cat terms I am still a kitten. I could ask her.”

 

Tsunade nodded her accent, very eager to learn what she could from the girl and the cat.

 

“Shi'i'na, the Hokage wants to know my abilities, do you have any clue what I can do?”

 

Now Kitten, what fun would it be if I told you. Besides, I do not think it wise for you to reveal everything right now. You are very vulnerable, we can only protect you so much you need a human clan to protect you when we can not.

 

“Please, Shi'i'na” Sakura begged, “I have to tell her something besides it might be even more dangerous to wandering around with new abilities and no idea how to use them, think about it if I accidentally hurt myself trying to discover my abilities…”

 

Our cat clan will hold me responsible. Very well after all your human guardian should know as well.

 

“Human guardian, Kakashi-sensei…?”Sakura queried.

 

Yes, now hush, I am only going to tell you this once.

 

The wording was so eerily familiar it made Sakura's heart pound.

 

As you have discovered you have cat like senses. You will inherit our strength and agility. We will use to train you in our own style once you are ready. You can summon and bind our cousins to you or if you chose to others. And all of our clan will come at your call little sister. Now that's all you get for now.

 

“Thank you Shi'i'na.

 

Not a problem Kitten, the more your other guardian knows about you the less I have to do.

 

Sakura smiled, under the nonchalant words she got the distinct impression of immense affection. She turned back to Tsunade and Kakashi.

 

“Ok here is what I can get out of her. She refuses to tell me everything because she feels it is a safety issue. However she did tell me, I have all of the cats senses, I will develop further muscle mass and they will teach me a new taijitsu style. I can summon cats, I think, with that scroll that He left. She also said that any cat I call on will help me.”

 

Tsunade inclined her head slightly to indicate she had understood.

 

“Wait,” Both Sakura and Tsunade turned to Kakashi, “there is one more thing we know, Sakura when I first found you before Midoriko showed up you heard her and your eyes changed is that just a reflection or your bond with cats or…”

 

Sakura's eyes dilated for a moment, “Oh your right I remember it was so strange. I had almost forgotten about that, I'm sorry, but to be honest I don't remember much of yesterday it was a bit of a blur, let me think.”

 

Sakura looked up at Tsunade, “I think my major trait is my eyes, when I call chakra to them, I see in colors not like I normally see but rather, I don't know how to describe it...”

 

Shi'i'na's growl interrupted Sakura's babbling. Kitten, be silent, you were not supposed to remember that, you may tell your ma…guardian after if you must but curb your tongue this instant, that is not knowledge for those outside the clan to know.

 

Sakura noticed the cat's slip but didn't say anything she would question her guardian later.

 

“Yes, Sakura?” Tsunade asked eager for more, already the girls new abilities were astounding.

 

“I'm sorry Hokage-sama but, Shina tell me the knowledge of my true sight must stay with in the clan for our own protection. I ask you not to pull rank on me if only to protect my cat kin.”

 

Tsunade thought about it for a moment, and then agreed her disappointment clear in her voice. “If you must Sakura but please tell someone that way if it ever becomes a problem and you need medical assistance we can be sure to help you. Now moving on, it seems a new seat on the council needs to be made, its not everyday we add a new clan to Konoha.”

 

Sakura looked so lost, Tsunade couldn't help but laugh.

 

“Sakura, you will be joining the council as the oldest, and for the time being, only, member of your clan, well,” she glance over at Shi'i'na, “only human member and as such you will join the heads of all the other clans and making the decisions about running Konoha.”

 

“But why?” Sakura asked unsure she wanted to know.

 

“All of the clans have to start somewhere, so whenever a new ability is discovered that is unique to one blood line then we start a new clan and every clan is represented at the council.”

 

Sakura nodded slowly, “That seems too easy there must be some type of catch.”

 

Kakashi smiled, “You were always the smartest, Tsunade if I may, you are only required to pledge your clan eternal allegiance to Konoha,”

 

Sakura nodded, she had expected that.

 

“And to continue your clan with the person elected by the rest of the council.”

 

Sakura's eye bulged as she turned from Kakashi to Tsunade for confirmation, and promptly fainted when she found out.

 

Tsunade stared at Kakashi for a moment then down at the girl, “We haven't even told her who.”

So far, so good, but we all know what that means. As I promised and as penance for my late chapter, I have gotten two chapters out this weekend. I am infinitely more pleased with this chapter then my last one. And as a result of my good mood, I have decided to add a new section Previews! I will try not to be too cruel with them.

 

Preview:

 

The council is summoned and the Mist situation which has been on the back burner for the past couple chapters is addressed. We also find out the fate of our favorite Kunoichi.
