Chapter Six

 

The Final Decision of the Council

 

 

Can I eat him? Please? Ha'ki'to growled angrily.

 

I don't like this one, Ki'li'na'ra, he is not good for you. Ki're'na added.

 

He is hot but the arrogant attitude has got to go, She'li'na observed.

 

Shi'i'na rolled her eyes. Do not tell him anything Kitten, I do not trust this one, he is dark.

 

Kakashi watched as the cats grew even more agitated. “Sasuke, as much as you would like to know, I highly suggest you calm down before the Sakura's guardians here, come to the conclusion that you are too dangerous to be in her presence.”

 

Sasuke glared at him but visibly made and effort to calm down.

 

“Now then, what would you like to know?” Kakashi asked warily.

 

“I want to know what the hell is going on! Why is Sakura being added to the council and why she is being made a new clan leader?

 

“I should think it was obvious Sasuke.” Kakashi replied.

 

“Well its not the only way a clan is added is if a new blood limit is discovered…It's the cats isn't it? It has to do with the cats?”

 

Kakashi raised an eyebrow, “And they told me you were the top of your class.”

 

Sasuke gritted his teeth but didn't rise to the bait.

 

Kakashi turned back to Sakura. “The council would still like to see you. They were…most displeased with your abrupt departure from their last session.” Then he turned to Sasuke, they weren't so pleased with you either you know. Losing Midoriko like that…”

 

This time Sasuke did snap. “I didn't lose her, she and Naruto were training!”

 

“That's nice anyway we have to go back to the council I believe they will be returning to session any time now. Come on Sakura, Sasuke we can't be late.”

 

The clan heads sat in the council room with Tsunade waiting for Sakura to return. The door flew open and Sasuke stormed in and took his place in the ring of clan heads. Following him was Kakashi who gave a slight bow to the Hokage before going to lean against the far wall.

 

Then Sakura walked in ringed by guardians.

 

“What are those cats doing here?” One clan head asked acidly as she stroked her dogs head.

 

Ha'ki'to hissed at her until Sakura put a comforting hand on his head, silently ordering him to stop.

 

“These are my guardians sent to protect me by my cat kin. They were told by the panther elder not to leave my side.”

 

The sudden outburst of whispering was silenced by the Hokage. “Enough, we have more important things to worry about then the cats. First of which is inducting Sakura into our ranks and then figuring out what to do about the current invasion of Mist.”

 

Tsunade turned to Sakura. “Sakura welcome to the council of Konoha, from now on when a meeting takes place you have a seat among us. You will be sent for by an eagle in the old manner of summons and you will have a say in all manner of decisions made by the council. In return we ask for an oath of allegiance to Konoha and we will be choosing a consort for you. We do this to ensure the succession of your gifts.”

 

The cats sensed Sakura become nervous.

 

What's wrong Kitten? What are they telling you?

 

Little sister it is alright, they will not do anything out of line or I will eat them.

 

Ki'li'na'ra the elder will come and set them straight don't be worried they have no say in what happens.

 

She is right Ki'li we won't let those old humans get to you besides if they make any rules we can always break them.

 

Sakura smiled at the comfort her guardians offered.

 

“Are you ready to swear loyalty to Konoha?”

 

Sakura turned to Tsunade. “Konoha has and always will have my loyalty.”

 

Tsunade smiled, “Excellent.”

“Now for your consort, we have chosen someone who will guarantee the purity of your gifts. Lee, come out here and say Hello to your bride-to-be.”

 

Sakura stiffened. Not him, it wasn't that she didn't like him. She just couldn't see herself with him as being anything other then casual acquaintances.

 

Lee stepped into the room. “Sakura my love, at last we will be together! Do not fear your beautiful green beast is here!”

 

Who is that nut, Kitten? Shi'i'na asked.

 

The council wants him to be my consort. Sakura replied her voice trembling.

 

Absolutely not. Little sister, I refuse to let that, that thing anywhere near you. If he comes any closer I will eat him.

 

Ewwwww gross. Absolutely not, you will not mate with him. Really how can the stupid human council even consider allowing you to…Ki'li I swear to you he will not lay a hand on you.

 

This is an outrage, Ki'li'na'ra, I will be sure to inform the elder of this she will fix it but for the time being I will assist Ha'ki'to in keeping that thing away from you.

 

Kitten, I promise you we will do everything we can to protect you. We have judged him unworthy. He will not be your mate do not fear.

 

Kakashi watched as the cats growled at Lee refusing to allow him within five feet of Sakura. He knew he should try and help Lee but part of him wanted to cheer that the cats would prevent to ill made match.

 

The council watched as the cats thwarted attempt after attempt Lee made to get near Sakura. This wouldn't do, this wouldn't do at all.

 

“Sakura call off your cats.” One of the clan heads ordered.

 

“I can't they don't like him, even if I did ask them not to they wouldn't listen to me. I'm still a kitten to them.” Sakura said softly.

 

“They only need to become familiar with him.” The clan leader with the dog said. “Then even if they don't like him it won't matter. They will still tolerate him.”

 

The other nodded each breathing a sigh of relief they would still get their way after all.

 

Kakashi frowned. He didn't like that at all.

 

Suddenly one of the council members clapped their hands. “I've got it, why not send them on a spy mission to Mist as fiancés? That way, A) we can judge the situation there and act accordingly and B) the cats can get used to them living together! Of course we will have to send a Jounin seeing as they are only Chuunin but that won't be so hard to arrange, as a matter of fact we can just send Kakashi he knows the situation best and his team are all ready to take the exam.”

 

Kakashi narrowed his eyes. “What about Sakura, she can't take the exam?”

 

The council member flushed.

 

“Don't worry Kakashi we won't hold any of your students back. As a matter of fact we can give both Sakura and Lee a modified test. We can use the mission. Depending on how they do we can use that as the basis of their exam.” Tsunade offered.

 

This seemed to ease all ruffled feathers.

 

“Alright then that is the last of today's business. Sakura, Kakashi, Lee report to my office tomorrow for order on your mission, for now council dismissed.”

Notes:

 

It is rather funny. If you had asked me last week what was going to happen I could not have told you. I kind of came across the idea by accident, go figure. Anyway do not fear I will not be abandoning and/or delaying posting of chapters for this story. My friend aforementioned in earlier chapters told me that if I dared to she would “skin me alive”. Now I'm not too fond of that idea so rest assured this story will continue.

 

Musings:

 

I am thinking about posting another story. The basic idea is Sakura telling a class of cadets how she managed to get in the bingu book and how she became known as the Shield if this is at all interesting let me know. I have the first few pages on paper already
