Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Comforting Sakura ❯ Yumi's Story ( Chapter 7 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

You know what? I love the rain. I believe it is the perfect setting to just pull your laptop close and start writing. I love to sit outside on my screened in porch and type away listening to the soft lullaby of rolling thunder and the soft pitter patter of water falling to the Earth. *sighs*

I had so much trouble with this chapter. I struggle with building up relationships. I can build up a physical attraction it's the everything else that drives me insane. So to help ease (and hurry) their relationship, I've decided to reread the Kakasaku fics by Leafygirl on fanfiction. (she's my fanfic idol!)

Disclaimer: I will not ever own Naruto. Life is so unfair!!

A poem I wrote (does not go a long with this story.. Please don't steal!)

"The Glass Heart"

by: Mary

Images haunt me as ghosts in the night
A pale slim figure against the light of the moon
Memories that serve to frame my guilt
Around this heart of glass
Now your crystalline tears fall so sharply
Against this already hardened heart
To be hardened yet so fragile
Has killed us both anew

I gave you my all
Now there is nothing left
Shattered glass surrounds me
Gasping for breath
Each push and shove
Like ice expanding
Served to destroy
A life already pending

You left the pieces all over the floor
My poor glass heart
All shattered and shorn
My poor glass heart
All shattered and shorn
Just leave it on the floor.

Chapter 7: Yumi's Story

Kakashi awoke regretfully the moment a sinister sunbeam hit his eye. He grumbled something unintelligible as he struggled to get up. He hadn't had the best night in terms of sleep. He just couldn't keep his mind from wandering back to that stream. True to his perverted nature, he once again imagined that he was standing with her, his fingers memorizing the texture of her soft skin, his mouth savoring her graceful neck. He shook his head again. `Damn it, this is definitely not good.'

He looked over at the object of his recent new fantasies, noticing how lovely she looked against the early morning sun. She sat in a tree seemingly lost in thought, though he knew better. He knew that if he so much as wiggled a finger, she would know. Last night was an exception to her usual over alert senses; she had had a nightmare, one that had shaken her so badly she hadn't even noticed his chakra.

He was very glad she hadn't been attacked.

Sakura glanced over her shoulder hearing someone rouse from their peaceful sleep and noticed the silver haired nin watching her. She blushed under his gaze and asked him very quietly if he would like to accompany her. He nodded and in one leap landed beside her, taking notice of the uncharacteristic blush. He looked forward into the rising sun.

They sat in silence for awhile, both of them lost in their own thoughts before he spoke, “What did you and Tenten discuss yesterday?” Sakura raised her eyebrows in surprise at hearing his voice before answering, “Neji proposed.”

“I see.”

She nodded before returning her gaze to the sun.

“I had another dream about him last night.”

He turned his head slightly to look at her, his unspoken question hanging in the air.

“We were both wearing wedding attire and I guess he kind of proposed to me. Before I knew it he was kissing me and suddenly I felt trapped. I wanted to scream but no sounds came from my mouth. Then just as suddenly as it happened he disappeared.” She blushed remembering the last part of the dream, “Then I heard someone's voice telling me it would be all right and I woke up.” Sakura looked a little surprised that she had actually told him about her dream.

Kakashi mentally noted that he had now seen her blush three times around him and began to wonder why. “Sakura he can't hurt you anymore, especially not if I'm here. I promise.”

She nodded and left them once again sitting in companionable silence leaving Kakashi to his thoughts. He stared into the rising sun, she didn't have to tell him the rest of her dream, and he had already guessed the part where he showed up clad in his shining armor atop a white horse to save her. He couldn't help but think that there was some hidden meaning behind that dream. He also couldn't help but wonder why he cared so much. He only saw her as his student didn't he? Of course he did, but then again he hadn't seen Sakura as his student in a long time. Close friend maybe, but definitely not his student. Could he be seeing more?

He rubbed his now throbbing temples with his fingers.

“Headache?”

“Yeah something like that.”

Day two passed in pretty much the same way as day one: hot and sweaty

Kakashi's squad set up their campsite and once finished shed their uniforms. A unified sigh of relief escaped the lips of the nins as each layer of clothing was peeled off. They had all decided to keep on their masks as they were now officially in rogue ninja territory. Kakashi and Sakura had to keep wearing their protective hoods due to their unusual and easily identifiable hair. Kakashi and Kiba were busily talking battle plans as Tenten and Sakura talked wedding plans.

Ten minutes into their conversation Sakura noticed Yumi staring off into the distance away from everyone else. She realized then that she had not bothered to get to know the kunoichi and called out to her.

“Yumi why don't you come and talk to us?”

Surprised at hearing her name, Yumi looked around for a second before locating Sakura and Tenten. She smiled and headed over towards them sitting down next to Tenten and across from Sakura. Sakura did not know too much about this mysterious woman and was curious. She studied the tall woman before her, taking in her appearance. Yumi had slightly curly lavender hair that reached the middle of her back, a narrow face, high cheek bones, and well defined jaw. However, all that was visible to Sakura at the moment were her eyes because the rest of her face was covered in a cat-like ANBU mask.

The mask did nothing to shield the beauty of Yumi's eyes away from the world. Sakura wondered absentmindedly if Yumi was in any way possible related to the Hyuuga clan. Yumi's eyes were deep dark lavender with specks of gold splattered haphazardly around her irises. They were exquisitely beautiful and Sakura felt almost captivated by them as they talked.

Sakura also knew that Yumi was new to the village of Konoha and was unsure of what abilities the girl might possess. She looked forward to observing the young woman before her in action.

Yumi had been raised in a small town just outside the hidden mist village. She explained that the town itself had been increasing itself over the years and would eventually become a new village. The village itself was known for its talented shinobi and the special jutsu allotted to them. Yumi of course had been no exception.

At a very young age, Yumi became the prodigy of her clan. The Aomori clan made up more than half of the town and was known for their lightening jutsu. Yumi, second born to her older sister Reina, had mastered almost every one of her family's jutsu by the age of seven. She had then moved on and made them her own, shaping them to fit her own growing strength. The older Yumi became, the more advanced and powerful her techniques were. Everyday her father observed her training from a window.

Yumi and Reina were each other's best friends. They had been born identical twins approximately two minutes apart with Reina being born first. Reina was by no means a weakling, she had mastered every one of the clan's jutsu, but could not seem to ever please her father. She knew her father only had eyes for Yumi but she never gave up trying. Reina knew that as the first born in the main branch, she would eventually take her father's place but knew that her father secretly wished she had been born second.

At the age of sixteen, their father pulled Yumi aside to talk to her. He expressed his deep sorrow that Yumi had not been born first and wished that it was she who would be taking over for him. He told her how proud he was of her and all that she had accomplished in a short time. Then he asked her to overcome Reina and become head of the clan.

Yumi shocked at her father's desires, arranged a meeting with the council asking permission to study abroad in the hidden leaf village of Konoha. She would never kill her sister and needed to get away from her deranged father as quickly as possible. Eventually her request was granted.

She had not told her sister of their father's desires, and so with a tearful goodbye, left for the peaceful village of Konohakagure. She knew that her sister did not understand her decisions but felt that leaving was the best option for her.

At the age of 17, she became the youngest Kunoichi in the village to become an ANBU. She had not yet figured out what to do about her situation at home, so she remained in the village hoping that her father would die and her sister Reina would take over.

It wasn't that she was scared to be the leader of a clan, it was just that Reina was indeed her twin sister, and as the oldest, it was her birthright to take over. Yumi knew that if she had stayed at home, things with her father would only become worse, and so she wrote to her sister daily.

When she turned 20, her missions became heavier and longer. After a while she found that it was hard to keep in touch with her sister, and her sister had found it hard to write back for Reina was busy with the intense training sessions she had been receiving from her father. Eventually the two girls had stopped writing and had lost touch.

After recounting her tale to the other two kunoichi present, Yumi stared out into the inky black darkness that threatened to suffocate them all. Just thinking about all that had happened made her feel angry and resentful all over again. Finally after what seemed like an eternity of silence, she wiped her face of all sadness and smiled.

“Enough about me for one night, why don't you two get some rest ne? I'll take the first shift.”

The other girls nodded in sympathetic understanding and settled in for the night.

Yumi leapt up to the nearest tree and searched the horizon for Their star.

Flashback:

Yumi panted heavily, exhausted from the day's hard training. Reina flopped clumsily to the ground as she relished the feel of the cool night air on her heated skin. Yumi watched her sister for a moment before plopping down next to her and staring into the clear night sky.

“You've gotten really good Ane!” A ten year old Yumi exclaimed tiredly.

Reina smiled, “I'm still not as good as you Imotosan.”

“Yeah but one day we will both be the same.”

Reina observed the stars thoughtfully, “Maybe”

“See that star over there Ane? The one to the right?”

Reina located the small but very bright star to the East. “Hai”

“That will be our star. That way we will always share something equally between us. We will always know that because of this star we are equals. We share the same blood, face, and now this star. No longer will one of us be better than the other.”

Reina smiled brightly at Yumi, “Hai”

Coming out of her thoughts, Yumi scanned the ground once again. After taking a moment to assess that everything was as it should be, she returned to her previous thoughts. `Reina..'

Thank you so much for your review! I also am more of a shika/temari fan, but my best friend loves shika/ino so I did it for her. She was the one that inspired me to actually post some of my writings after all. ( I like shika/ino as well)

Once again thank you for your wonderful reviews! If you see in grammatical errors or spelling errors please feel free to point them out! I really don't mind and it improves my skills as a writer. I often don't have a lot of time to proof read. I'm a swim instructor and my days are often a tad hectic ^_^
