Crazy Little Thing Called Love
A Sturdy Tree
He has no clue how lucky he is, how she's always following him around, trying to get his attention.
She gives it every bit of her all but he just blows her off without even so much as a look in her direction.
He thinks he's hot shit when I'm certain he knows he's really not.
She's perfect in every way, the most beautiful girl in the world.
If he cared about her they'd be perfect for each other, they really would. There would be nothing I could do to break them apart, I'd lose her forever and he'd be happy all the same.
But he doesn't even know she exists, so she continues to obsess over him…while I obsess over her.
God damn you Naruto.
Sometimes it was too painful for him to watch as Naruto made an idiot of himself in front of the others, screwing up a simple kunai throw, slipping into the river, performing that annoying Sexy Jutsu instead of anything remotely useful. On those days just seeing it galled the hell out of him, and drove him to want to get up and walk away without another word to anyone so he could beat his head against a good sturdy tree until his brain bled.
It was only sometimes, he knew why Naruto acted like he did so he could understand and even empathize with him on the better days, but today even that knowledge brought him to the point of his contention. As he reveled in their jeers, rolled eyes, and laughs, he never noticed her.
Everyone else did, she wasn't hard to miss. Wearing a coat two sizes too big for her with its hood pulled up for greater effect, she looked obvious even when trying to seek refuge in her shyness and even then he couldn't see her. Everyone else saw her when she followed him around, or when she tried to gather some kind of strength to talk to him, or when she spoke up in his defense.
She could not have been more obvious.
Yet, he was oblivious.
The frustration was overwhelming, seeing such a heartsick girl go on ignored like that. Naruto's eyes were always elsewhere, if not on the Hokage Wall then on Sakura, both of them impossible achievements when he could have something that everyone else knew that he wanted, someone who could honestly say she loved him.
It was not fair.
Of all the girls, why did it have to be her? The one girl the sole, solitary girl that had caught his eye and subsequently became so attractive to him was head over heels for the single biggest idiot around. Why did the biggest idiot in the world not even notice her?
Why couldn't he see?
Why couldn't she see?
Why? Why? Why?
So many whys, he hated asking why. There were too many unanswered questions that began with “why”, and the answers he did get were never good, except one.
Why did he care?
Was it obvious? It was as obvious to him as she was to everyone but Naruto, he cared because he was in love with her, he loved her like she loved Naruto, like Naruto claimed to love Sakura, like Sakura claimed to love…
It was such a bitter pill to swallow, this love. It felt out of the blue, out of the character, but it was love and there was nothing he could do to change it. He loved Hinata Hyuga with all his heart and he didn't want to change it. All he wanted was her.
Sasuke Uchiha sighed and watched as Naruto made Iruka's epistaxis flare up again with that stupid jutsu. The novelty had long since been lost, as no one reacted beyond irritated groans and exasperated sighs, and yet he reveled in their animosity and attention, grinning like an idiot while oblivious to the glow of her smiling countenance.
“God damn you Naruto.” He growled as he got up and began to walk.
It was high time he found himself that sturdy tree.
