Chapter 3
Lightning
When morning came Mai hurried to get ready for the day. She rushed through the village streets and stopped at the gate. This is where Naruto said he'd meet her. He was five minutes late, and half asleep when he got there.
"What did she say? What did she say?" Mai begged.
"Yeah, we can go." Naruto yawned.

It took them all day to get to get to the mines. From five o'clock in the morning they ran to ten o'clock at night. They rested in a curry shop where friends of Naruto's lived. A fragile old women stepped out from behind a counter. "Naruto! Welcome back! What brings you here?"
Naruto smiled. "Hey, Sanshou-baasan! I brought a friend who needs to talk to you." He said.
Mai walked up next to Naruto. "Hi! My name is Mai! I was just wondering--"
"Mom? Who's here?" Karashi poked his head around the corner, followed by Ranmaru.
"Hey Karashi! Ranmaru!" Naruto said waving a hand in the air.
"Karashi, Ranmaru, meet Mai." Sanshou said to the boys. "Mai, this is my son, Karashi, and his student, Ranmaru."
"Hello!" Um, ok I have a very very very very important question for you!" Mai could hardly contain herself.
"Go ahead, sweetie." Sanshou said sitting down at a small dining table.
As Ranmaru and Karashi brought out bowls of curry Mai told Sanshou exactley why she was here. "When I was a genin in Kirigakure, Raiga Kurosuki was my sensei. Not long after I became a chunin he asked me to train to become a member of the seven swordsman of the mist. Halfway through my training my father atempted to assassinate the Mizukage, and failed. After that he fled the village. Only a month later another trainee Suigetsu, dissapeared on a mission. Raiga began to teach me how to use his swords. Pretty soon, I became as good as him. Then while he was out on a mission, I was, driven, from my village. Recently, I heard that Raiga died near here. Seven Mist members are supposed to pass on their swords to the next generation. Raiga didn't do that. So his sword is up for grabs. Bottom line, I want it." Mai set her hands on the table and looked directly at Sanshou.
Sanshou looked very serious, almost dissapointed. "Sigh. Well when you put it that way..." Sanshou said. Suddenly a smile burst onto her face and she said, "let me get them for you!" She laughed. Mai smiled so hard it hurt her face. She could barely stop. Sanshou came from the back room holding two swords with smaller blades sticking off the sides. Mai ran over to her and Sanshou placed them in her hands. Mai ran out onto the cliff face and lifted the swords into the air. She couldn't believe she was holding them again. Naruto walked out behind her.
"Does this mean your going back to the Seven Swordsman of the Mist?" Naruto asked.
Mai froze. She hadn't even thought of that. Two years ago, they were like family, but now, her only family member was waiting for her in Konoha. "No. My dad's dead, Raiga-sesei is gone, and I don't even know about Suigetsu." She thought things over agian. "I have no one left there. Besides, they probably broke up." Mai concluded.
Naruto was a bit relieved. He had no ties to this girl, but he didn't want to lose another villager to some enemy, as if the Seven Swordsman could be considered an enemy to the leaf.

Mai and Naruto slept over night in the curry shop. Early in the morning the each had a bowl of curry for breakfast and headed back to Konoha. Mai now had a long red ribbon that tied the swords to her back by wraping around her waist. As the twosome ran through the mountainous terrain, a story unfolds itself back in Konoha.

Back in the Leaf Village, Shino Aburame, Ino Yamanaka, Sakura Haruno, and Hikaru Hyuuga listened carefully to the tale of the Sasuke Retrieval Squad. They had reached the part where Temari came in to save Shikamaru. "And suddenly a giant gust of wind came and blew Tayuya away! Then there she was Temari Sabaku! I told her of the situation and what kind of jutsu Tayuya uses and she said..." In Hikaru's mind, the only thing interesting was the curse marks. Every time something was said about the marks, or Orochimaru, the tattoo on Hikaru's hand burned. On his right palm, under a few bandages was a tattoo of three squiggly lines pointing away from each other. Hikaru doesn't remember how, or when, he got them. But they're wierd so he covers them up. As Lee begins talking about his fight with Kimimaro, Kotetsu walked around the corner to the the genin. They were sitting near a tree over by a large stream that ran through Konoha. The entire group turned to them.
"Hikaru, come with me." Kotetsu gestgured for Hikaru to aproach him.
"Uh, ok." Hikaru replied. He walked up next to Kotetsu and he followed him as he scaled the side of a building using the Kinobori no Waza, Act of Tree Climbing technique. Upon reaching the roof, they leaped from building to building. As the Hokage's office neared, Hikaru knew he was going to be meeting with Tsunade.
