Chapter I Warm Meetings and Puppy Love
Gaara was slightly terrified. He had never left his village before and he certainly has not been with his father anywhere. The sudden surge of kindness his father had shown him the past few days had unnerved Gaara greatly. As he clung to his stuffed rabbit that was held in one arm and his big sisters hand Gaara kept close and Temari kept alert. She knew why her father had brought Gaara along and was glad that he did. Knowing better than to question why Temari never really bothered to wonder what her father’s intentions were but it would soon find out. Kankuro was on the other side of Gaara. He was not too fond of his little brother. Kankuro was never fond of his little brother but Temari insisted that he was nice to their little brother and Kankuro did his best to be just that. Nice. Then again he could not help that Gaara’s innocence annoyed him to no end and that every time the small boy looked at him with large teal eyes Kankuro had to suppress the urge to hit Gaara but he knew that Temari was close by watching him. So Kankuro just kept his distance from the little boy to prevent any injury.
Gaara’s father had nearly whooped in joy when he got a reply notice from the Hokage concerning Gaara. Apparently there was another boy exactly Gaara’s age that was just like Gaara. Shunned by the village because he carried a demon. Finally his son was going to have someone his age to play with and he did not have to worry about his son being tortured by the villagers while he was away. Gaara would be with his new friend in Konoha and he would be safe. Despite the carefree appearance of the shinobi from the hidden village of the leaves, they were very protective of the young ones, demon holder or not. Reaching the gates the Kazekage announced his arrival. Three ANBU came forth when the gates opened and escorted the Kazekage to the Hokage tower.
Naruto was happy as happy could be. The Hokage had called for him the day before to tell him that he was to have a new playmate for the duration of the Kazekage’s visit. Naruto pressed the Hokage for more information but got nothing else since the Hokage knew nothing of the child. Now, Naruto sat in a chair in the office with the Hokage and Iruka. Both smiled at Naruto’s beaming face as they waited for the Kazekage to arrive. They both knew Naruto barely slept the last night because the boy was still too excited to be half asleep or tired. A knock on the door made Naruto jump to his feet only to have Iruka pull him back on the chair. The Hokage bid the person to enter and could not hold back a laugh when Naruto jumped off the chair again and greeted their guests with a huge smile and struggling to not run up and hug the Kazekage’s youngest child.
Gaara had been shaking the entire time they were in the tower and they had not even reached the Hokage’s office. Temari stared down at him in worry as Kankuro suppressed a mocking laugh. Gaara’s shaking did not go unnoticed by the Kazekage either and he ended up picking up Gaara and carrying him the rest of the way. When they reached the office doors Gaara was set back on the floor in front of Temari who kept a good grip on his shoulders. The doors opened and the first thing Gaara set eyes on was the mass of messy blonde hair and bright blues eyes. Gaara smiled slightly and blushed, quickly wrenching himself from Temari’s grip to hide behind her only to blush further. Everyone laughed as introductions were made. The Kazekage and Hokage sent Naruto and Gaara with Iruka while Temari and Kankuro went with one of the ANBU to the training grounds. Kankuro had challenged Temari and Temari could not wait to beat the daylights out of her brother. The two kage’s discussed trade routes, communication, and any back up the villages might need when either of them was attacked.
Iruka smiled as Naruto nearly dragged Gaara down the street. The villagers wanted to glare but could not help but smile and laugh at the cute seen that paraded down the street. Naruto smiling broadly with a light blush on his face was talking to Gaara who hugged his rabbit close to him as he blushed deeper every time Naruto looked at him. The villagers had to admit that it was cute seeing the early forms of puppy love forming. Iruka just laughed as Gaara began to pick up pace to keep up with Naruto.
Uchiha Sasuke was a happy kid. He had family that loved him and a few friends that he considered as friends. He loved his older brother Itachi but could never seem to get his aniki to play with him so he had to settle with watching his older brother train. Sasuke had a secret crush though and was glad that no one knew. Not even his much loved older brother. For quite sometime Sasuke was starting to fall in love with a certain blonde haired and blue eyed boy. Problem was that the boy was completely oblivious and so was everyone else.
Gaara was enjoying himself for once. He did not have to worry about people glaring at him but he did notice that some people in this village glared at Naruto. Gaara had long figured it out but kept to himself. Now he was swinging with his new found friend while Iruka watched from a distance. Kakashi had stopped by to talk a few minutes after the arrived at the park. Iruka spoke to the Jounin as he kept his eyes on Naruto and Gaara making sure none of them get hurt or Naruto dragging Gaara into one of his pranks.
Naruto and Gaara played until the sunset behind the trees and both were sleeping soundly under a big oak tree. Iruka and Kakashi approached them and picked them up, heading to Naruto’s apartment. Iruka called Gaara’s father to notify him where Gaara was at and to ask permission if Gaara could spend the next few nights with Naruto. The Kazekage gladly gave permission and Iruka tucked the two in bed before cleaning up the mess in the kitchen that Naruto obviously made trying to make breakfast. Kakashi helped a little but mostly kept his nose in his book while waiting for Iruka to finish. When Iruka was finally done he checked on Naruto and Gaara one last time before leaving. He smiled when he saw that Gaara was snuggled closely to Naruto’s chest and that Naruto had wrapped his arms around the sand child’s small waist. Their lips brushed against each other slightly and their breathing was in unison. Iruka heard a chuckle behind him. He turned to see Kakashi looking over his shoulder at the sleeping pair. Kakashi shook his head slightly before heading towards the door with Iruka in tow. Iruka turned off the lights and locked the door leaving the slumbering soon-to-be-lovers curled up and dreaming peacefully.
Itachi had been doing his job. He was to look for the sand child and the Kyuubi holder and bring them to the Hokage’s office. Problem was that it was ten in the morning and Itachi had searched everywhere but Naruto’s apartment because normally Itachi would see the blonde bouncing around town. Today seemed a bit different. As he turned a corner and stopped in front of the blondes apartment door Itachi reached into his pocket and took out a spare key. There was only four people in the village that was allowed a key to Naruto’s apartment and that was the Hokage, Iruka, Kakashi, and himself. Thanking the Sandaime for that little gesture helped.
Itachi opened that door and was soon walking through the small apartment looking for either, or, or both Naruto and Gaara. Opening a door that lead to the bedroom Itachi smiled at the sight that greeted him. Naruto’s and Gaara’s lips were now pressed together and both were still sleeping soundly. Feeling guilty for what he was about to do Itachi walked towards the bed and shook the two demon holders awake. Gaara responded quite fast while Naruto sat up, rubbing his eyes sleepily and yawning a few times. Itachi just laughed before helping the two get ready. Thirty minutes passed and both containers were holding onto Itachi as he sped through the village. Naruto had no idea who Itachi was and why he was sent by the Hokage but Itachi still looked familiar to Naruto but Naruto could not place it. Itachi set Naruto and Gaara down in the Hokage’s office before taking his place behind the Sandaime. The Hokage spoke to the two for a few minutes. He noticed that Gaara was sitting closer to Naruto and was blushing a little every time the blonde looked at him or spoke to him. Turing to Itachi, Sarutobi instructed Itachi to take Naruto home with him to introduce Sasuke to Gaara. Itachi winced at the thought and explained to the Hokage how that was a bad idea. When he was finished the Hokage agreed that it would be a bit of tension between Sasuke and Gaara but he still wanted the clan to meet him. Agreeing to try to keep peace between his brother and Gaara, Itachi grabbed the two puppy lovers and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Itachi reappeared at the entrance of the Uchiha residence. On their way to his house Itachi stopped and introduced Gaara to his family. Gaara noticed that everyone they encountered did not shoot a glare at Naruto but the simply hugged him or patted him on the head. Naruto liked it when he visited the Uchiha household because the people treated him like he was a kid not a monster and besides, a lot of the Uchiha mothers fussed about him enough that he really did know what it was like to have a mother. More like thirty or forty of them. Naruto could not help but wonder who Itachi was. So his curiosity got the better of him and he asked.
“Itachi-san?” Itachi glanced down at Naruto giving him the ok to continue “I never met you. Who are you?” Itachi simply smiled before replying.
“My name is Uchiha Itachi. I am Sasuke’s older brother. Reason why you never met me is because I am usually on missions and I am rarely home.”
“Oh. Itachi-san do you know why Sasuke acts weird around me?”
“He likes you Naruto and does anything to get your attention”
“But I don’t like him. I like Gaara!” Gaara had not been paying attention to the conversation until Naruto spoke the last two sentences. Gaara blushed deeply and buried his face in Naruto’s shoulder. Itachi smiled. He noticed that the people they passed by saw the same thing and heard Naruto’s remark and smiled. He also noticed they treated Naruto differently than the villagers do. Slightly confused Itachi reminded himself to ask his father later but now he had to introduce Gaara to his mother and little brother.
Itachi’s mother bustled around the kitchen preparing lunch. She noticed that Itachi there was an extra two voices that accompanied Itachi’s. One she recognized as Naruto’s and smiled. She loved the blonde haired boy but she could not tell who the other voice belonged to. ’Who ever it is sounds a bit shy.’ Walking out of the kitchen she greeted her son and Naruto. Itachi introduced Gaara to his mother before calling Sasuke down who nearly fell down the stairs running.
“Sasuke, this is Gaara. He is from the Village Hidden in the Sand and he is the on of the Kazekage. He is also a close friend of Naruto’s” Itachi winced when he saw the flash of anger pass through his foolish little brother’s eyes.
“Nice to meet you” Sasuke said flatly but he did not extend a hand to shake. His mother found it odd and then realized what was going on. She shot Itachi a desperate glance and he just nodded his head. She feared this.
Sasuke was not happy. He was jealous quite frankly because it was noticeable that Naruto was clearly head over heels about Gaara who felt the same about Naruto. Sasuke did not like it. He would never like it but he must try to get Naruto to like him the way he did.
Sasuke and Itachi’s father came home a few hours later and was greeted by a very happy Naruto. Picking up Naruto, Fugaku carried him to the living room where Gaara sat on the floor with Itachi playing chess. Fugaku placed Naruto on an unoccupied side of the chess board before moving to kiss hi wife and greet his sons.
“Checkmate”
“Damn it!!!!” Itachi yelled
“It is an even score you two. Itachi-san has ten and Gaara has ten. Can you guys call it a tie already?” Naruto was getting frustrated and bored. Itachi and Gaara were going at it for he past few hours. Naruto did not know that Gaara could be so competitive and playing against a very stubborn Uchiha seemed to put his mind to the test.
“No. Not until I actually beat him” Itachi replied. Gaara smirked slightly before setting the board up again.
“I’ll take your challenge Uchiha” Gaara stared back at Itachi. Itachi just smiled and moved the first piece.
Fugaku just laughed and left the two boys alone. He took a seat on the sofa next to Sasuke who was watching attentively. A loud groan indicated that Gaara had lost and was setting the board up again. Naruto had leaned over and kissed Gaara on the cheek who just blushed and moved the first piece. Fugaku looked at Sasuke and was stunned to see anger and hatred pass his eyes. Fugaku looked at his wife who just looked back down and resumed her needle work. He then looked at Itachi who seemed to know what he was thinking because Itachi just nodded his head before moving another piece.
A few more hours passed and Naruto and Gaara fell asleep on the floor in the living room. The were in the position they were in when Iruka left the night before. Gaara was snuggled close to Naruto’s chest, Naruto’s arms were wrapped loosely around Gaara’s small hips and their lips were brushing against each other while they slept. The clan members that were there that night discussing affairs concerning the clan found the sight too adorable but worried more about the brooding young Uchiha that sat at the corner of the sofa glaring at Gaara. The knew. Everyone knew. Then again, the could do nothing.
A few days later it was time for Gaara to leave and poor Naruto could not top crying. Neither could Gaara who desperately clung to Naruto while his father and sister tried to pry them apart. When they finally gave up Fugaku walked over to the crying boys and hugged them. Naruto and Gaara finally let go and Fugaku picked Naruto up after Naruto placed a light small kiss on Gaara’s lips. Gaara blushed again and everyone laughed. It was a cute sight. Waving good bye the village gates closed and Naruto never saw Gaara after that. ( Sorry for it sounding so corny. I’m trying here)
