I'm better than anyone at focusing my chakra! This is the perfect opportunity! Sakura was overjoyed. She now stood beside an equally overjoyed (but for a different reason) Naruto, who had just taken a large bite of the juicy fruit. The young woman glanced over at Sasuke. He, like the blonde, was still stuck at twelve paces, and gloomily spit out another seed. Sakura was happily at fifty- eight paces and damn proud.

Kakashi shifted his weight and peered over the top of his novel. Good, they were still at it, with Sakura comfortably ahead. What a surprise. He was about to return to his reading when he felt a jolt down his spine.

"Come here." He grunted, gathering the startled young shinobi behind him.

Sakura looked up at her beloved teacher, fright in her eyes as she huddled close to Naruto. "Sensei?" She whispered. "What is it?"

"Don't you feel it?" Sasuke hissed. "That mysterious chakra?"

Kakashi shushed them. His keen eye scourged the foliage for the source, finding nothing but the rustling of dead leaves in the slight breeze. Then suddenly- there! By the river!

"Who are you?" The jounin growled, his eye narrowed and body tense with excitement and fear for his students. Sakura frowned and peered in the direction of the energy.

"Well really Kakashi, that's no way to greet a lady."

Kakashi straightened, his lips curved in a scowl under his mask. "Regina. I should have known it was you by your repulsive stench."

She smiled icily. Despite the sun overhead, she was comfortably cool under her neat fedora and black trench coat. "As tactfully stoic as ever I see." Regina removed her hat and shook out her glossy midnight waves. Her manner was seductive and calm, her musky perfume in no way revolting, and when she straitened her short dress, the sun glinted against the silver signet on her finger, flashing garnet, momentarily blinding Kakashi.

"It's just a girl!" Naruto clapped ecstatically. A very pretty girl.

Sakura shuddered. I don't like the way this is going.

Regina cocked her head to the side. "Why don't you introduce me to your students?"

Naruto raced over and bowed. "I'm Uzumaki Naruto. That other guy is Uchiha Sasuke (don't talk to him, he's a jerk), and she's Haruno Sakura."

The dark- haired young woman giggled and bowed her head. "Regina Marquet. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Naruto." Her step was graceful as she walked her bike over to the others. "And you, Sasuke. It truly is an honor to meet a member of the legendary Uchiha clan."

Heat spread to the young man's cheeks as he looked down and away from her, his gaze locking with the ground. She had an odd accent, something he didn't recognize, rather elegant, but foreign.

No, no, no! Sakura felt her internal steam rise. This bitch is ruining my plan!

"Well, I'd hate to hold you up anymore." Regina smiled at Sasuke and Naruto, who gazed on with more than interested looks. "Have a good day gentlemen, Kakashi." She tipped her fedora.

"Matte!" Sasuke called after her. The woman turned and acknowledged him with a small smile. Sasuke's blush returned, spreading to his tingling scalp. "Maybe you'd like an escort." He mumbled.

Regina shook her head. "I assure you, I know my way. Thank you all the same. And besides, you mustn't neglect your training. Even an excellently skilled shinobi such as yourself can grow stronger." With a laugh and a swirl of her coat, she evanesced into the forest's dark shadows.

Naruto turned to his teacher. "She's so wonderful, sensei! Do you know her?"

I thought I did. "Training's finished for today." He announced gloomily.

"But sensei-"

"Training's finished."

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I don't know why I'm ripping through these chapters so quickly. Usually takes me a month to update. One of life's great mysteries.
