And in the flames,
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire
This desert rose
Each of her veils; a secret promise

The dying embers chased shadows across the temporary teammates' faces. Neji, Suzume, and Hinata sat around the fire, each a respective distance from one another and the fire. Silence reigned among the small clearing, the three teens just relaxing in the stillness of their surroundings.
That was, until Hinata shifted. "Um.. I'm going to get some water. Would either of you like any?"
"No." Neji said, his usual monotonous voice betraying none of the emotions he felt.
"I would like some, Hinata." Suzume smiled as she handed Hinata her water canteen.
"I'll be back soon." Hinata said, disappearing out of sight.
Suzume stared at the smoking remnants of the fire. She was trying not to look at Neji. It was this thing she had, no matter what, she always had to see people's faces. Suzume would probably never admit it, but she was afraid of being alone, and she always had to see people to reassure her of the fact that she wasn't alone.
Neji's POV
I can't think about her. I just can't. It's not fair, though, how I have to put up with the torture of seeing her beside me, knowing she hates me, and wanting her so much it hurts. I can't believe it. I had been doing fine the last five or so years of my life, why now?
Her burning amber eyes met mine and I realized I had been looking at her. I couldn't read what was in her eyes; it was something I'd never really seen before. Maybe it was just the smoke blurring my vision. Hn. I looked away, trying to focus my attention on the dying fire.
"I'm going to sleep." She said, and stood.
"Hn." I had nothing really to say, why should I waste precious breath on someone who hates me?
Yes. That's right. She hates me. I know, because the last thing I ever saw clearly in her eyes was anger and pain. Anger at me. She walked past me, and I bit my lip in order not to say anything that could possibly give away what I was thinking.
I could hear her behind me, I wasn't about to activate my Byakugan just to see her get into the sleeping bag. Time passed torturously slow, until the fire burned out and I could hear her evened breathing. Hinata came back just then.
I guess I should get to sleep too. Hinata crawled into the sleeping bag behind me after putting out the fire, and soon after I had realized there was no point in staying up, so I crawled into my sleeping bag, ignoring the rocks that lay below it.

Normal POV
It was windy. The gusts raced around the three teammates like a stampede of wild stallions, cutting through the tall grass and racing around corners. All of them were cold, but Neji refused to show it. Hair was everywhere; Suzume's long tresses were especially annoying, as she had not gotten to braid it recently.
Hinata, taking matters in to her own hands, as no one could hear her even if she screamed, activated her Byakugan. Neji whipped around to face her, sensing her actions. He mimicked her actions, and Suzume, who was behind Hinata, nodded, and the three took off.
Running through the forest proved to be harder than normal. They couldn't talk, and they couldn't contact the others because they probably wouldn't be able to hear them, with all this wind and such. Neji stumbled. It was getting extremely dangerous out here. He quickly regained his balance.
He felt something grab his arm and he whipped around, startled. He hadn't really been paying attention behind himself. Suzume pointed to a makeshift cave up ahead, and Neji nodded and Hinata caught up to them.
Arriving at the cave, Hinata fashioned a make-shift barrier at the entrance that would at least temporarily hold off the wind and soon-to-come rain. Hinata turned to Suzume. "Ano.. Your hair might be a problem. Do you want me to braid it?"
Suzume nodded and smiled, handing Hinata the ribbon. "Thank you."
Hinata accepted the ribbon and started braiding Suzume's hair. When she was done, Suzume thanked her and pulled the braid over her left shoulder. She stood and helped Hinata to her feet. "I'm going to go look around."
Hinata stood. "Can I come with you?"
Suzume nodded. "Of course!"
Hinata pulled out a flashlight and turned it on as they walked into the darkness of the cave. Its dull light illuminated a solid rock wall, and she frowned. "Where does it go? I thought this cave was huge?"
"Maybe it's a wall..?" Suzume suggested.
"Hm.." Hinata bit her lip and looked around with the flashlight. "You're right."
Suzume smiled. "Well, then we'll just have to move it, won't we?" She ran towards the wall, and Hinata's eyes widened.
"Wait! Suzume, NO!"
It was too late. Suzume had slammed her shoulder into the wall, wincing with the sudden impact. The ground suddenly started to shake and Suzume's eyes widened. A rockslide started, slowly, gradually at first, with the smallest of pebbles falling. "Hinata! Get away from here!" she yelled.
"But - "
"GO!"
Hinata turned and ran. Suzume looked up to see a giant rock heading her way. `Shit!' She raised her hands in front of her face to form an `X' shape. The giant rock, which was about the size of her whole body, slammed into her full force, and she fell to the ground, a cry of pain escaping her lips. That was all she remembered before she fell into an endless void of blackness.
