“Hinata-chan…”
̶ 0;Hai?” She glanced up from her bowl of ramen at the boy sitting across from her. It was hard to make him out since he was on his tenth or eleventh bowl. Hinata lost track after four of them.
“What did you do today?”
She smiled. “Well, I was given some pretty kimonos since they were going to be thrown out, and I cleaned a room, then made lunch for them.”
“Oh. I thought you were going to do more than that…”
She sighed. Naruto didn’t understand that today was all about testing her to make sure she was up to the job. Tomorrow and after would be a bit different. “Naruto-kun, how many bowls of ramen did you have?”
“Uh…” he looked at the pile around him and smiled. “I don’t really know. Hey Hinata-chan! Can we get some ramen while we are out?”
She nodded quietly while Naruto whooped. Hinata shook her head. Some people never changed.

“Shino, where are we going?”
“Away.”
“Why?
“Because, Naruto and Hinata need to be alone.”
“Shino, what if Naruto hurts Hinata?”
“Kiba, stop being her big brother and let it drop. Naruto wouldn’t do anything to hurt her. Even though he’s a baka sometimes, he wouldn’t do anything to her.”
Kiba crossed his arms. “How can you be sure Shino?”
Shino turned around and stared at the other boy. “Kiba, how long have we known Naruto? Has he ever done anything to hurt those he cares about?”
“Umm… no, but what if he has changed?”
“Kiba, Naruto would not do anything to hurt Hinata. That’s final.”
“Hai.” Kiba looked over his shoulder at where he saw Naruto and Hinata in the window. “They do make a cute couple don’t they?”
Shino glanced at him. “Yes, they do.”
“It’s sad isn’t it? All our friends are getting together and well, I still haven’t had a steady girlfriend.”
“Kiba, what are you babbling about now?”
“Well, Neji has Tenten, Naruto is getting Hinata, Shikamaru has to choose between Ino AND Temari, and you have your girlfriend, where as I don’t have a constant girlfriend.”
“Kiba, knock it off. It’s because you are the one who usually gets distracted and break up with the girl.”
“Hai, but… still, you would think I would have had a serious relationship by now!”
“Actually, no, I don’t think that. You aren’t serious about anything.”
“That’s enough Shino.”
“I’m fine with it. No more talking.”
“Shino?”
“Didn’t we agree no more talking?”
“Hai, but Shino, why don’t we go there? They have gristle.”
“Fine. They better have salad though.”

Naruto, after paying for his and Hinata’s lunch, walked Hinata all the way back to the Suzuki household. “Hinata-chan, are you sure you are going to be ok by yourself? What if you are found out?”
“Hai. Suzuki-sama believed me about us,” she paused to take a breath, “w-wanting t-to g-get ma-ma-ma-married.”
Naruto smiled at the girl and put his hand on her head gently. “I still can’t believed you went with that lie Hinata-chan! I know we talked about it before and all, but still, I’m surprised you didn’t argue.”
Hinata stared at her partner. After three years, after he matured so much, he was still slow when it came to people’s feelings. Everyone in Konoha already knew that Hinata was in love with the boy, the only one who hadn’t figured it out was Naruto. She smiled and shook her head slightly. “Why would I argue with Tsunade-sama? It was her idea, and it does make it easier to say that we are engaged then that we are married.” All the while she was saying this, her face kept on getting redder.
“Hinata-chan, are you sure you are feeling ok?”
She nodded. It was getting harder to hide her feelings from him.
“Hey Hinata-chan…”
“Hai?”
“Be careful.” He leaned over and gently kissed her forehead, “I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
The black haired girl passed out.

“YOU DID WHAT?!?!” Kiba screamed.
“Kiba, you heard him the first time. Calm down.”
“Well, she shouldn’t be going on missions if she is sick!” Naruto responded in his defense. He held Hinata in his arms carefully.
Kiba laughed. “Naruto, you are a baka.”
“Kiba…” Shino interjected warningly.
“I know Shino, don’t worry.” Kiba leaned over Hinata and gently put smelling salts beneath her nose.
“Huh?” The girl mumbled when she opened her eyes.
“Now Naruto, carry one of these with you at all times and you won’t have to come looking for us.”
“Hai, arigato Shino.”
Shino nodded slightly and pulled Kiba away from Hinata. “Come on Kiba, its time to go.”
“But Shino, what about Hinata?”
“Naruto can take care of her, and I’m sure Hinata can take care of herself.”
“Hai!” Hinata said.
“Are you sure Hinata? If you pass out again, I’m not letting you out of my sight.”
“Hai, I’m ok Kiba.”
“Hey! She’ll be ok! I’m here to protect her!”
“…” Kiba didn’t respond but turned his attention back to Shino. “I’m ready.”
“Ja ne Naruto, Hinata.”
“Ja ne!” They chorused.

“Kiba, you have gone beyond acting like a big brother to her. You are now acting like her mother.”
“Awe, come on Shino. You cannot honestly tell me you are ok with Naruto?”
“Actually, I am. Naruto likes her. Can’t you tell?”
“WHAT? I THOUGHT THAT HE STILL LIKED SAKURA!”
“Why are you shocked? He has been worrying over her constantly.”
“Hai. Still I figured that Naruto would take a while to see what is great about Hinata. I’m sorry Shino for acting overprotecting. Akamaru has a female dog that he adores and I’ve been rather lonely.”
Shino sighed. “Look, I’ll talk to my girlfriend and ask if she has any friends who are interested. Just don’t talk to me about how you feel again. It’s odd.”
“ARIGATO SHINO!”
“Kiba… This is a little odd. Get off of me.”

“Hinata-chan, please won’t you tell them you are sick? Please?”
“Gomen Naruto-kun, but no. I… I need to do this mission. I need to complete it.” She turned and waved to him as she walked into the house.
“Hyuuga! You’re late!”
“Gomen Suzuki-sama. My fiancé became worried about me.” Hinata’s eyes stared at the ground while her face turned a bit red.
The woman stared at Hinata and smiled. Poor girl didn’t know what she had gotten into. “Well, that is what they do, at least at first. When you are married, he no longer worries in the same way.” She smiled and put a gentle hand in Hinata’s shoulder.
Hinata looked up and giggled slightly. “I don’t know if he will ever change.”
Suzuki looked at the girl in front of her. “They change as soon as they are given responsibility. It is their way.”
Hinata smiled at the woman.
“Well, now that you are back, I guess that means I can set you to work again. I honestly thought that room would take you all day though. I guess you can start cleaning the rest of the house. Stay away from my husband though. He is not too kind to the help.” She frowned slightly at the thought.
“Hai.”
Hinata cleaned the house in a swift manner. She approached one room with caution though. When Tsunade-sama gave her the mission she told her that Hinata needed to get important files from this family. Hinata took note of what she needed to find and looked carefully at everything she cleaned. Not too carefully though to attract attention. The last room Hinata decided to start cleaning was the study. She knocked slightly on the door and peered in. Upon finding no one there she walked in and looked for the reports she needed. She quickly picked them up and put them in a secret pocket in her kimono.
“YOU! What are you doing in here?”
“Umm... cleaning. I was told to clean the house. Gomen, I will stop if you wish me to.” Her eyes fixed upon her feet again when the husband walked in.
“You are finished in here?”
“Almost, I will clean it tomorrow if you like.”
“Hai, that would be better. Leave girl.”
“Hai!” Hinata dashed out of the room. That left her with the night to copy the reports before they had to be put back.
“HINATA-CHAN!” Naruto called and waved when she got out.
She smiled as the boy ran to greet her. He didn’t stop in front of her though..
“Ah.. Gomen, Hinata-chan.. I guess I ran a bit too fast.” He pulled himself off the girl and scratched his head with the same smile he always wore.
“It’s ok Naruto-kun.” She started to lift herself off the ground. Naruto immediately put his head out and took her arm. She looked into his eyes which were so close to hers.
“Uh.. Hinata-chan…”
“Hai…”
“… Can we go get some ramen now?” His eyes held hers and he didn’t want to let her arm go. Yet asking that instead of what he really wanted to know meant that he had to let her go.
“Hai,”
He smiled again but as they left he couldn’t help but to take her hand gently into his own.
She blushed but didn’t pull away from him. It was just an act she figured. Naruto thought the same but was happy all the same.

“Kiba, what are you doing?”
“Shhhhh! Look, you think Naruto told her?”
Shino looked where Kiba pointed. Naruto and Hinata were holding hands while they were walking. Hinata’s face was red again and Shino detected that Naruto’s was a bit too. “No, I don’t think he has. Come on. It isn’t our work to spy on Naruto and Hinata.”
“Awe, but Shiiiiiino. Please? They are cute together.”
“No. Let’s go. We need to complete our mission before Hinata completes hers.”
“Hai…”
