Know that I have never read the fic and do not intend to do so, so any similarities hereafter are purely coincidental and should not be taken as anything more than such. There will be some Yaoi in here as well as heterosexual. Don’t like it or don’t think the two belong in the same fic? Find something else to read. Well after so much blathering please on with the fic.

Just Simple Curiosity

Introduction: Free Lessons

“It’s boring around here,” Amaya complained to her best friend Christianne.

Amaya Aika Dark was twelve years old with thick, silver curls that hung to her feet and

was always up in a ponytail atop her head. She stood at four feet even, had a camel

colored skin complexion, deep crimson eyes with golden pupils that were framed with

long, thick silver lashes, a slightly exotic look because of her mixed blood and a

Japanese name because her parents loved anime. She dropped the PS2 controller at

her small feet before letting her petite frame fall flat while her legs remained folded

Indian style on the floor in front of her. The moment the controller fell from her hands

her friend gained a quick victory in Tekken 5 the game they were playing.

“Dang-it Aya,” Christianne Iris Jacobson said dropping her own controller in

disgust. “I hate when you just let me win,” the slightly older girl complained. Aya looked

up in amusement as she watched her friend’s waist-length, earth brown hair swing over

her shoulder in annoyance as Christianne turned around. Christianne however was not

amused and her twelve-year old face proved it when she turned to glare at her lounging

friend with hostile; pale, almost white blue eyes that would make any Husky proud.

“Ooo so whatcha gonna do wolf girl,” Aya taunted getting ready to spring away if

Christianne did decide to attack her. Aya watched in apprehensive amusement as

Christianne’s coffee with two creams complexion turned red and the girl raised her fist.

She just missed Aya who’s body twisted out of the way almost slowly. “I’m a Werewolf

you brat,” Christianne said in amused annoyance as she tried to use her four inches of

extra height to lunge at Amaya. After a few more moments of chasing around Amaya’s

room Christianne caught her friend and proceeded to sit on her stomach so that she

could tickle her. Amaya laughed loudly kicking her feet as she tried to get away from

Christianne.

“Christie knock it off,” Amaya finally gasped out before the two looked up just as

Amaya’s room door opened.

“Girls!?” Mrs. Dark said frowning down at them as she pinned them easily with

golden, Archangel eyes lined with night black.

“Sorry mom,” Aya said as she pushed her friend off and sat up looking at her

mom sheepishly. With a sigh Mrs. Dark walked into the room before folding her five feet

four inch frame gracefully into a seated position on her daughter’s unmade bed. Hair as

black as night flowed down to her waist in thick ringlets and slipped over her shoulder

as she shook her head.

“I know you girls have got to be bored up here,” she said with a smile, “why don’t

you go outside and ride your bikes. When you get back I’ll have dinner how’s that

sound.

“Sounds great the girls said jumping to their feet as they dashed past Aya’s

mother to get outside quickly. Mrs. Dark chuckled as she made her way out of the room

only to hear that the girls had gotten into yet another problem.

“Girls, girls no running in the house,” Mr. Dark barked as he stopped his daughter

and her best friend. He’d reluctantly allowed Christianne to stay over for the summer

while her parents went backpacking through Europe for their second honeymoon. The

only reason had been because they were friends of the family but he was starting to

think he didn’t know what he’d gotten himself into. Mr. Dark ran a hand through his

thick, straight silver hair that fell to his mid-back. His crimson eyes, lined with silver

lashes burned in mock anger as his gaze pinned the two girls, because truth be told he

never truly got angry. Perhaps it was being a vampire he thought with strict controls

over one’s emotions. While he pondered his even temper he allowed the girls to pass

making sure they walked on their way out before he turned back and found his wife

smiling at him.

“Man that was close,” Christie said after they’d shut the door behind them and

walked down the street a little.

‘Yeah,” said Aya. “Oh well we’re safe now so what do you wanna do?”

“Beats —,” Christie started before her face brightened up and she grabbed her

friends hand giving it a tug. “Hey I know let’s go see what’s opening up around the

corner a few blocks from here!” Amaya grinned before she began to run behind her

friend, following her around the corner and up the street. When they got there the white

building sported window paintings along the front and said ‘Ninja Shop’ in black letters

below the pictures. The girls looked at each other in amusement before they realized

that there was a class inside and blushing they quickly stepped away from the window.

“How embarrassing,” Aya mumbled as she and Christie began walking away.

They were stopped seconds later by a shout and looked back to see a man waving to

them from the side of the building where the door probably was. They stopped with a

bewildered look on their faces, but waited for the man to make his way over to them. He

smiled looking down at them. The man’s head was covered in thick black hair and was

tied in a tight braid behind him. His features were very pronounced which made him

seem almost overly masculine but the girls giggled softly anyway as girls are prone to

do. The man smiled listening to them and then spoke in a very heavy Asian accent.

“We are giving away free lessons today,” he told the girls, “you are more than

welcome to come in and join us.”

“But you’ve probably already started,” Amaya said looking slightly crestfallen as

the words left her mouth.

“Not yet,” the man assured them, “we were just getting ready to begin stretching.

The girls looked at each other excitedly and nodded their agreement to the man before

he bowed and turned so that they could follow them back inside. As they walked Amaya

began to get really worried however.

“Um sir,” the girl said slowly, “are their only humans inside because we wouldn’t

want to hurt anyone. The man turned looking at her even as he kept walking and smiled

showing the tips of pointed fangs.

“Do not worry child,” he said, “there are only Preternaturals here for today’s free

lesson. Humans were yesterday. Instantly the girls relaxed and followed the man inside

the building as they’d already reached the door. Once inside they took off their shoes as

did the man and went through a door with a picture of a lady on it to change into the

proper attire.

“Wow you get free new equipment and everything,” Christie said opening her

own set of robes while Aya had already begun putting hers on. Once their belts were

tied and in place and their belongings stored in the same locker and locked they made

their way back out to the front to join the other students. The moment they entered class

began almost immediately. After they bowed they began learning a few kicks and

punches. Once they had practiced sufficiently according to the Sensei as they had been

instructed to call him , he walked around paring people up according to size and gender.

Amaya looked at her partner and smiled but the girl didn’t smile back. Letting her own

smile die on her lips she wondered briefly if the girl was prejudiced against Hybrids or

mixed Preternaturals. Oh well she thought as the lesson began and she concentrated

on blocking her opponents kicks and punches. Without warning however the girl rushed

her and Amaya reacted instinctively. She moved first to the side and then came around

with all her weight to shove her hand into the other’s back. The girl own momentum

helped Aya and she fell to the slippery floor hard skidding forward and into the wall.

Turning Aya saw the instructor begin to make his way toward her and also noticed that

Christie had her opponent pinned beneath her with the other girl’s arms pinned behind

her back. While the Sensei continued making his way across the gym she noticed that

the other students hadn’t fared so well when their partners had changed and found it

briefly amusing. The Sensei looked down at Amaya and Christianne and smiled almost

approvingly before he announced that today’s lesson was over. As everyone

straightened and bowed before they began pouring out Aya and Christie were held back

by the instructor. Thinking that perhaps they had done something wrong they followed

him back to his office looking at each other with tense faces. When they reached the

office and he asked them to sit they did as they were told while he moved behind the

large oak desk to sit facing them.

“Tell me have either of you had lessons in martial arts before?” The man asked

quietly. They shook their heads slowly and the man began to smile. “I thought so,” he

said nodding more to himself than to them. “So then that was pure instinct?” When the

girls nodded the man’s smile grew and he stood shaking their hands. “Wonderful,” he

said , “would you mind if I took our names and numbers?” The girls shook their heads

and gave their information before departing and wondering what had just happened.

Deciding that the man was a little crazy they returned to the locker room and changed

their clothes. Since they’d been told they could keep their training gear they took it and

walked out of the building starting on the way to Aya’s house.

“What the hell was that all about?” Aya asked in bewilderment.

“Beats me,” Christie answered as they reached Aya’s house and went inside.

“Oh well lets put this stuff in my room and just forget about it,” Aya stated

matter-of-factly. As they were half way up the stairs Mrs. Dark poked her head out of the

kitchen and called out to them.

“Oh there you are girls,” she said with a smile, “dinner’s ready so wash up and

come on down. They nodded and scrambled up the stairs stuffing the martial arts suits

in a duffle bag. After putting the bag under the bed they went to the bathroom and

washed their hands and faces before returning back downstairs for dinner. After they’d

eaten they each took a bath and climbed into Aya’s large queen sized bed.

“So what do you really think was up with that man?” Christie asked as she shifted

in the bed to find a comfortable spot.

“Who cares,” Aya yawned, “it was only one free lesson. It’s no big deal I’m sure

he’s probably forgotten all about us.”
