alarm clock. The fuzzy red numbers said six in the morning but a glance at the calendar
showed her it was Sunday. Not only that but it was the first Sunday of the month to be
circled in red. Today was one of two Sundays out of each month that she didn’t have to
go to work or to train. Stupid internal clock Aya thought to herself as she rolled over to
face the wall in exasperation. Still pretty tired and hellbent on enjoying her day of rest
Aya forced herself to try to go back to sleep. As she lay there in the semidarkness with
her eyes closed she thought about her time in Konoha. She and Christie had been here
for almost a year, including the time it took them to graduate the academy. Everyday
except the two Sundays of the month that she was off were spent first training, then
working, and then coming home. You’d think everything stopped there but not a
chance. When she got home she had to make dinner, then she’d of course eat, wait for
Christie to get home, then go to her room and practice her jutsus and bringing out her
wings. Lately, she admitted to herself, that she’d been practicing a lot more in the
evenings. Most of that was due to the fact that she was practicing more advanced
jutsus from books that she’d bought at work and because she felt she was making
progress with the wing thing. Since this usually took a lot of chakra and energy to do,
when she had a day off she would use the opportunity to rest and only practiced her
basic jutsu. She had to admit that she’d been advancing rather well and her days off
were her favorite reward. Yawning again Aya felt her brain begin to get fuzzy as it
prepared itself for sleep. Moments before she could actually drop off however she
heard a rather incessant pounding at her door. At first she tried to ignore it. But when
the irritating noise continued she rolled over glaring at the offending piece of wood that
stood between her and killing the person that had stopped her from going back to
sleep.
“What is it,” she growled angrily.
“Hey Aya-Chan breakfast is ready and our team is in the kitchen,” Christie called
after a moments hesitation. Christie knew what day it was. She’d even tried very hard to
explain to Kakashi-Sensei and the others about Aya’s ritual. Even after all the info they
had still asked her to wake Aya up. Didn’t see them volunteering Christie thought with a
sneer as she backed quickly away from the door as Aya emerged. Aya glared at her
best friend trying to decide whether she’d be sad immediately or later after she killed
her.
“Did you tell them I was sleeping?” Aya demanded not bothering to fight with her
loose, bedraggled hair that fell every which way and still managed to look beautiful.
“Y-yeah,” Christie stammered backing up a little slower toward the kitchen. “I told
them that it was your day off but everyone said they wanted to see you. Growling in
irritation Aya stalked past Christie, the latter breathing a sigh of relief that she wasn’t
going to be attacked. Well maybe their team and Sensei would learn why not to wake
Aya up when she was hellbent on relaxing Christie mused as she followed Aya’s
retreating back at a more sedate pace. When she got in the kitchen everyone was
looking at Aya with worried expressions. Christie moved carefully around Aya and took
a look at her face noticing the familiar snarl curling her lips as well as the changing of
her eyes from gold to crimson. They were gonna get it and get it good, Christie thought
as she began fixing Aya’s plate while trying not to make any noise at all.
“What the fuck do you want?” Aya growled stopping short of baring her fangs at
her friends.
“Clearly you don’t wake very gracefully,” Kakashi noted smiling at her before he
took a sip of coffee.
“Not on my day off,” the girl snarled. “And what the hell are you doing here
anyway?!” When everyone only stared at her quietly she walked to an empty chair at
the table and sat down angrily. Naruto reached up and clapped a hand on Aya’s
shoulder with a smile as he was sitting right next to her.
“Good morning Aya-Chan,” he said cheerfully. Aya turned to him with a deadly
look in her eyes.
“If you want to keep using that hand for the next fifty or so years you’ll remove it,”
Aya said before a dangerous growl rumbled through her chest. Naruto quickly snatched
his hand back and Christie used the opportunity to set Aya’s plate in front of her quickly
and back away. Once her deed was done Christie walked around the table sitting in
between Kakashi-Sensei and Sakura. Everyone watched as Aya looked down at the
food in a half angry half hungry type of way before she calmed down enough to say
something.
“Where’s the coffee?” She snapped looking up at Christie. Her best friend got
slowly to her feet and gabbed a mug down from the cabinet before filling it with black
coffee. After adding a healthy dab of cream and a load of sugar Christie put the cup on
the table and slid it easily into Aya’s waiting palm. Once she had the cup in her
possession Aya raised it to her lips taking a large drink of the hot, sweet beverage.
Once the caffeine began working its way into her system Aya took a deep breath and
after another large drink she put the cup down. Clearing her throat she felt her anger
lessen and she picked up her fork deciding that food might make her less grumpy as
well.
“What are you guys doing here?” Aya asked much more calmly though there was
still an edge of growl to her voice.
“Well we were here to remind you that you have to take your ninja id pictures
today,” Kakashi-Sensei said carefully not wanting to anger the girl again.
“Oh that’s today,” Aya said as she finished her first bite of food. “Hold on I think
you’re right but it’s not until three o’clock if I remember correctly.”
“Yes that’s true,” Kakashi said when he noticed that the others of the team
weren’t trying to speak.
“Then why are you here at,” Aya said before turning to glance at the clock. “Why
are you here at eleven o’clock in the morning?” Aya asked the slight, growling edge
returning to her voice.
“I just wanted to make sure my students were on time,” Kakashi said smiling.
“Yeah best not to teach us your slovenly attitude about time,” Aya said with a
smirk in Kakashi’s direction. The Sensei however only smiled, that one eye crinkling to
show he was amused. “Well don’t worry Sensei I’ll be there,” Aya said beginning to
make quick work of her meal.
“Why don’t we all go together,” Naruto said happily, finally daring to speak.
“Sure why not,” Aya muttered wondering why she had to be surrounded by
insufferable morning people.
“Sounds great,” Kakashi said, “since it’s only four hours away why don’t we all
wait here for a bit.
“If you do,” Aya said in warning, “keep it down. And Christie can you wake me up
at one-thirty?” Christie nodded smiling as she watched Aya walk out of the kitchen and
back to her room muttering to herself about friggin’ morning people.
“Ok people why don’t you watch some TV while I finish cleaning the kitchen,”
Christie said shooing them into the living room. “And for the love of God please keep it
down,” She hissed when she saw Naruto turn it on. Aya went straight back to her room
and climbed in bed. Well at least the anger had eaten up a lot of energy she mused as
she covered up. Within seconds she was back asleep. Once Christie was done with the
kitchen she went into the livingroom still wiping her hands dry before she took a seat
beside Sakura on the couch. She quickly got engrossed with the talk show they were all
watching and before she knew it, it was one-thirty. Getting up she knocked softly on
Aya’s door and received a soft yeah in response to her noise this time.
“Hey Aya it’s one-thirty,” she said through the door.”
“Ok,” Aya said from within the room. For a moment she lay in bed listening to
Christie’s retreating footsteps before she stood up and moved toward her dresser.
After picking out a nice pair of unfaded, black jeans and a matching shirt that said ‘Don’t
Fuck With Me’ she went to her bathroom. Once she was clean and dressed Aya spent
twenty minutes untangling her hair and wrestling it into a tight ponytail on top of her
head. Who ever said curls were the perfect hair she thought bitterly. Deciding she was
ready she walked out and headed toward the livingroom listening to the sounds of
bickering.
“What do you mean I can’t take the picture like this,” Naruto complained.
“Because Naruto-Kun it won’t be allowed and you’ll have to take it over again,”
Aya heard Sakura say.
Not to mention this could slow down our chances of getting a mission quickly
baka,” Sasuke said in irritation. Aya was now really confused. Of course when she
walked into the livingroom everything instantly made sense. Naruto stood in front of the
TV trying to defend himself with his face covered in white paint and small, red swirls
were drawn everywhere. Sakura and Sasuke tried to talk some sense into him while
Kakashi and Christie however sat on the couch trying to stifle their laughter. Sighing
Aya walked further in and voiced her opinions on the entire thing.
“Naruto Kun you can’t wear that,” she said simply eyeing him with an arched
brow. Naruto turned looking at her and when he read her shirt his eyebrows rose.
“But you can wear your t-shirt,” he pointed out with a frown.
“My t-shirt serves a purpose with the fact that it warns everyone that fucking with
me can get you killed,” Aya pointed out with a smirk. “Your face paint however only
makes you look silly and will send the message that you don’t take anything seriously.”
Naruto frowned at her but he could see the sense in her reasoning that was for sure.
With a defeated sigh he walked to the bathroom but Aya stopped him. “Wait here,” she
said before she ran back to her room for something. When she got back everyone was
looking at her bewildered until she brandished a camera at them. After raising it to her
face she waited for Naruto to pose fiercely before she took the picture. While she shook
the picture gently willing it to dry she motioned for him to proceed to the bathroom.
Naruto smiled a bit as he washed off his face and hands before coming back out with a
grin. Aya held up the picture to him and he smiled at her as he took it.
“Didn’t want all your hard work to go to waste,” Aya said with a small smirk.
Naruto looked at her before back down at the picture and then back up.
“Thank you Aya-Chan,” he said smiling brightly.
“Happy to help,” Aya said shrugging before she turned to head for the door.
“Come on lets go get this thing over with.” With that they left the apartment making it to
the school where the photos were being taken in under five minutes. After they’d waited
in line for another twenty minutes they had individual photos taken and then a group
photo. Once the pictures were done they all walked outside the building and Aya
stretched yawning.
“Well I guess that about covers business for today,” she said before raising her
arms to link her fingers behind her head. “I guess I’ll go home and get a little more rest
k.”
“Hang on Aya-Chan,” Sakura said grabbing her arm lightly.
“What?” Aya asked confused.
“Well while we were inside I saw a friend of mine. She said her sister’s finally
opening up a new night club. The grand opening is tonight and she asked me to come
and bring some friends.”
“I know there’s a point in there somewhere,” Aya said arching a brow at the
blushing girl.
“Oh right,” Sakura said chuckling. “I want you guys to come to the opening.
Please,” Sakura begged quickly before Aya could voice her immediate rejection.
“But this is my day of rest and unwinding,” Aya protested trying to ignore the
puppy dog looks she was receiving from Sakura.
“Come on Aya-Chan,” Sakura tried again, “what better way to relax and unwind
than a little fun?”
“Sleep,” Aya pointed out determined not to be swayed.
“What kind of club is it?” Christie asked suddenly curious.
“Um well,” Sakura said blushing as she turned to look at Christie. “See it’s a little
dark, a little bondage, a little, well you know.”
“And we can go in there?” Aya asked skeptically.
“Yes,” Sakura said smiling. All bartenders at the club check for ID before serving
you so younger people can go in there. And besides for tonight only, everyone can
drink. Unless of course your really young but we can drink.”
“I see,” Aya said before she turned to glance at her other teammates who all
looked at her expectantly. Realizing that she was outnumbered and would probably feel
guilty about letting her friends down Aya nodded that she would go. “Sheesh see that’s
why I don’t have a lot of friends,” she muttered as a small smirk spilled over her lips.
Her friends laughed and Naruto clapped her on the back heartily.
“I’m so glad you decided to come,” Sakura gushed happily causing Aya to shake
her head in amusement. “Let’s all meet at Aya-Chan and Christie-Chan’s house at
around eight ok?” Sakura asked looking at the others for conformation.
“Sure said the rest of her teammates.”
“I’ll meet you there,” said Kakashi with a smile. Everyone nodded and they
parted ways so that they could go off and get ready.
“I can’t believe I let you guys talk me into giving up one of my days off,” Aya
muttered as Christie unlocked their apartment door.
“Oh come on Aya it’ll be fun,” Christie assured her as she turned to lock the door
once Amaya was through it.
“Yeah it’ll be a barrel of laughs,” Aya said sarcastically as she walked to her
room to find something to wear.

Chapter Six: A Day of Rest
Aya yawned softly opening her eyes before turning on her side to glance at heralarm clock. The fuzzy red numbers said six in the morning but a glance at the calendar
