that edged the clearing that she had practiced in as a child. She still couldn’t believe
that her and Christie had stayed here in Konoha for nine years. They had been good
years she mused to herself, most of them anyway. Lots had happened in the space of
time that had passed. She and Neji were still together she thought with a smirk, Kakashi
and Iruka had become more bold with there relationship, Naruto, Sasuke, and the eye
popping surprise of Sakura had blossomed into one hell of a threesome both in the field
and according to said girl of group in the bedroom as well! Christie had also found love
too Aya thought trying to contain her amusement at her best friend’s boyfriend of three
years. Who’d have thought her and Lee-San would hit it off so well. Aya finally did
chuckle as she’d remembered the tortured screams Lee had let out when Christie had
talked him into her and Aya give him a make over. It had been hilarious she thought
continuing to chuckle softly to herself but you had to admit he did look a hell of a lot
better. Less bushy eyebrows, a better style of dress, and not to mention that new hair
cut. Even miracles could happen Aya mused as her laughter subsided and she lapsed
once more into silence. While the silence wrapped her in a comfortable cocoon Aya
watched as the sun began to rise. She watched as the sky slowly lightened turning soft
pinks and oranges, mixing with the paler and paler blue. While she sat admiring one of
nature’s most beautiful wonders she heard someone moving toward her with light steps
through the trees. Her guard was up at once as she leapt silently into a crouching
position. Aya wondered who could be out here so early in the morning and why they
were moving in a way that could only be described as sneaky. As the person got closer
however she caught their scent on the crisp morning air and instantly relaxed.
Resuming her seat back on the branch she turned her attention back to the sky
showing no sign of fear as the person drew closer. When Neji hopped on the branch in
a crouch beside her and dropped a quick kiss on her cheek Aya only smiled continuing
to look up at the sky.
“Will I ever be able to sneak up on you?” Neji asked chuckling as he draped an
arm around Aya’s shoulders and pulled her close to him. Aya turned to give him her
signature smirk though it was warmed a little.
“Sure you will,” she said teasingly, “when you learn to stop making those silly
human noises and giving off that wonderfully sexy scent.” Neji snorted planting another
kiss on top of her head before the two of them turned back to look at the continuing
sunrise.
“You know we leave on our mission later tonight,” he reminded her softly,
“shouldn’t you be at home sleeping.” This time it was Aya’s turn to snort in amusement
as she turned to look at her boyfriend.
“Sleeping huh,” Aya teased. “And the fact that you woke up all hot and horny as
always and found me gone has nothing to do with your lack of sleeping right?” Neji
grinned seductively as a soft chuckle slipped from his lips. Aya watched as those lips
inched closer, stopping only when they came in contact with hers. They shared a brief,
steamy kiss before breaking apart to grin at each other.
“I thought so,” Aya said with another of her smirks.
“Can I help it if you’re so damn sexy when you wake up to proper stimulation?”
Neji asked innocently as they both turned their head back to the sky.
“So it’s the Land of Waves this time huh,” Aya said as she yawned softly
cuddling further into the warmth of Neji’s body.
“Yep,” Neji confirmed wrapping his arms tighter around Aya. “It seems that when
the locals got rid of one problem with the help of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and
Kakashi-Sensei another one sprang up soon after.”
“Sucks for them,” Aya muttered her voice soft as she listened to the mission brief
from Neji. They both already knew the details of the mission but Neji always liked to go
over them before they left. Aya didn’t mind but since she’d woken up extra early to
come and watch the sun rise in her favorite spot it was hard to keep her eyes open and
her brain focused. As Neji continued talking Aya felt herself drift off in his arms, his
body heat and scent lulling her to sleep. Neji soon realized that he was talking to
himself as he felt the young Jonin beside him fall asleep. What a horrible habit Neji
thought to himself with a smirk and a soft chuckle. He gathered Aya to him and carefully
made his way back to the house they shared with their friends. His mind ran over the
different times in their lives over the last nine years. When they had become chunin’s
and then Jonin’s. The battles they’d gone through, the missions they’d faced, the loss of
friends. Yeah they’d had some hard lives that was true but then that was the way of the
ninja he mused as he juggled Aya’s body and carefully unlocked the door to the house.
After locking the door back and walking to their bedroom Neji removed Aya’s jacket,
shoes, and hair tie before tucking her into bed. Since he was already up though Neji
went through their pacs to make sure everything was correct for the supposedly week
long mission. It was a simple mission Neji reminded himself once more even though it
carried an A rank. All they had to do was get in assassinate the new threat and his
bodyguard buddies and get back out. Nothing too difficult for the strongest team of
Jonins in Konoha he soothed himself as he finished his check of the packs. Leaving
Aya to sleep peacefully despite what he wanted to do Neji crept out of the room and
wen to make himself some coffee. While he made the warm, caffeine filled drink
Christie sat in her room at her window seat looking out at the morning as it unfolded.
Another A rank mission she thought with a sigh. As she thought about the mission
parameters her mind wandered to the last A rank mission she’d had. They’d just
become Jonins she remembered, it was her team joined by Neji and Ino in an
infiltration of the Sound Village. It had been an easy job, in and out in one hour. Aya
had been the leader in that particular mission she mused. Once they’d infiltrated the
Sound Village’s hospital all they had, had to do was lay low until nightfall and then grab
the files needed. When night had fallen Ino had insisted that she could execute the
grab and snatch and get back into their current hiding spot no problem. Aya had
immediately told her no saying that she had already chosen Christie for that particular
job. Ino had then accused Aya of playing favorites.
‘You’re just choosing her because she’s your friend,’ Ino had accused hotly as
she’d looked daggers at Aya. ‘I want to get ahead too but how can I if I don’t do
anything?’ Aya had sighed softly trying to be patient with the girl. This was the first
mission she’d been put in charge of. She had been trying to be nice to her teammates
because they were her friends. But the young Werewolf had known that Ino had been
grating on Aya’s nerves, Christie remembered. But Aya was a good leader, a strong
one and did not make any decision lightly.
‘Ino this isn’t about you or anyone else being cheated out of getting ahead,” Aya
had stated calmly. This is about being a leader, choosing what’s best for the team, and
choosing the best person for certain jobs. Normally for a grab and go mission I’d do it
but since Christie has better hearing and a better sense of smell she goes.’ She
explained that she had chosen Christie not because they were best friends but because
she had exceptional hearing and a close to perfect sense of smell. She’d even thrown
in the fact that she would have gone herself had it not been for the fact that Christie’s
nose and ears exceeded her own. It was only fractionally better Christie knew and she’d
told Aya so quietly. But Aya had only given her trademark smirk and said, ‘a fraction
could make sure you come back alive.’ However the argument from Ino had not
stopped there even with the sound logic Aya had presented. The girl, at the time as
they had all been pretty young, had continued to insist on her usefulness. After the firm
no Aya had been repeating for the last half hour turned angry with just a hint of growl to
it Ino had dropped the subject. As they sat in the middle of the floor of the small storage
closet that they’d hidden in all day studying the map of the hospital once more with Ino
off to the side the matter had been dropped. When they’d finished going over the plan
to the letter once more Aya had nodded satisfied and the group broke apart as she
folded the map back up and tucked it into her pocket. Immediately Aya had known
something was wrong. Everyone could clearly see that Ino was gone and that the door
had been left open just a crack.
‘Son of a Bitch,” Aya had whispered softly. ‘Christie I know it’s a few minutes
early but you’re gonna have to go now. I don’t know how far she’s gotten but if you don’t
hurry that idiot is going to get herself. . .hurt.’ Aya hadn’t been able to say killed as
Christie quickly left out the door in silence. She desperately hoped that Christie could
get to Ino in time. While Christie’s musings continued she heard a stirring from the bed
that had her turning in time to see Lee sitting up with a loud yawn.
A/N: Ok I know I’m evil and it’s short but hey cliffys are good once in a while and writer’s block can be one cold bitch! Anywho you know the drill. I hope I’ve made things as wrong as hell so far LOL!
