Waves in the dead of night. Her team consisted of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Christie,
Lee, Neji, and herself. Just what the hell had possessed her she wondered to take the
lead in another mission. After her first mission she had steadily declined leading
another, not wanting a repeat of what happened with Ino to happen again. With that
thought brought on the memories of her first mission. She watched once more as she
sent Christie out the door after the blonde girl.
‘Son of a Bitch,” Aya had whispered softly. ‘Christie I know it’s a few minutes
early but you’re gonna have to go now. I don’t know how far she’s gotten but if you don’t
hurry that idiot is going to get herself. . .hurt.’ Aya remembered full well that she hadn’t
been able to say that the girl was going to get herself killed. She remembered her team
members faces as they’d looked at her questioningly as to what to do. Remembering
the feeling of helplessness that had swept over her made Aya’s chest tight and she
shrugged the feeling and the memories away quickly. That was the past Aya
admonished herself as she began moving unwittingly at a faster pace. The other’s kept
up with her but began, also unknown to Aya, to flag quickly. Neji watched as Aya’s pace
quickened and he hastened to keep up with her. Everyone behind him did the same, all
of them on guard for anything that might be waiting in the thick shadows for them. After
four hours of the scorching pace that Aya had set Neji found his muscles waning. He glanced back to see that only Christie was easily keeping up with the grueling pace.
Wondering what the hell Aya was doing Neji put on a burst of speed to catch up to his
girlfriend. When he finally caught her with an arm on her shoulder, Aya glanced at him
in confusion. Her pace slowed a bit because she realized he was having problems
walking beside her and also because of the hand on her shoulder.
“What’s wrong?” Aya asked arching a brow at her panting boyfriend as she
slowed down even more. Grateful for the now sedate pace Neji took a moment to catch
his breath before he turned worried white eyes on Aya.
“Shouldn’t I be asking you that question?” Neji asked still a little breathless. Both
of Aya’s brows raised at that as she became even more confused. Seeing the
confusion on her face Neji smirked.
“Aya-Chan I think we’re going to need a break soon,” he said shaking his head in
amusement.
“A break,” she said voicing her confusion. “Why would we need a break? We’ve
only been traveling for four maybe five hours at best.”
“Yes well us poor humans can’t keep up with the blistering pace you’re setting,”
Neji said his voice dripping with sarcasm even as a small smile crept across his face to
soften his words. In surprise Aya looked back at her other teammates to find all but
Christie, who was helping Lee, looking almost burnt out. Sighing Aya lowered her pace
even more blushing with embarrassment at the fact that she hadn’t been paying
attention to what she was doing at all.
“Sorry,” she mumbled as she started looking around for a clearing that everyone
could rest in for a while.
“Never mind that,” Neji said softly as he followed Aya down a side path and they
emerged in a clearing that sounded close to the river. Everyone besides Aya, Christie,
and Neji sank immediately to the ground, groaning about the pace.
“Sorry guys,” Aya said growing red in the face as she apologized for her
rudeness.
“It’s cool,” was the response she got from most of her crew but Christie and Neji
drew close to her with determination in their eyes.
“Aya-Chan what’s wrong?” Christie asked looking into her friend’s eyes worriedly.
Aya quickly turned away from those worried eyes only to find herself trapped by Neji’s.
Sighing in exasperation Aya shrugged trying to think up a good enough reason to have
damn near dragged them at break neck speed. Ok so it wasn’t that bad but it could
have been she realized had Neji not caught her attention and stopped her.
“It’s nothing,” Aya said after a moment before quickly walking away from them
and over to Sakura, Sasuke, Lee, and Naruto. “Sakura-Chan,” she said when the tired
group looked up and noticed her.
“Hai,” Sakura said as she continued to pant in exhaustion.
“Can you tell me where we are exactly?” Aya asked feeling bad because she
was asking the girl to move and even worse that she was the cause of her out of breath
state. With a groan and a hand from Sasuke, Sakura found the map and began tracking
their location. Within minutes she had the answer and beckoned for Aya to kneel down
so that she could explain it. While Aya took in the information of their position she
thought back over where they were supposed to meet the contact. There were two
ways to get to the land of waves Aya knew, one by the bridge and the other by boat.
Since this mission required a little sneakiness they were of course going by boat so
they had to catch a ride. The boat contact was to meet them two days from now a few
miles away from their current location Aya surmised. A location that was supposed to
have taken almost the full two days to reach would be reached in half a day Aya
concluded as she stood up scowling.
“Problem,” Christie asked as she and Neji made their way over to the group after
seeing the irritation on Aya’s face.
“Hai,” Aya said walking away from the still resting group of humans to talk to her
Second and Third in Command.
“So what happened?” Neji asked wondering if because of Aya’s inattention they
had somehow wandered in the wrong direction.
“We’re almost to the meet point.” Aya said softly looking down at her feet in
embarrassment.
“What do you mean we’re almost at the meeting point?” Neji asked in
astonishment.
“Damn Aya-Chan just how fast were you walking anyway?” Christie demanded
as she processed what Aya was saying.
“Look I didn’t mean to,” Aya stammered looking up with a bright red face. “I
guess I was just thinking about some things and I lost track of my pace.” When Christie
saw her friend’s face she sighed knowing that Aya probably felt bad enough without her
clawing her eyes out. Instead of more admonishments she cleared her throat and
forced a smile to her face.
“Well how long til we get there?” Christie asked trying and failing to sound upbeat
and spirited. Neji watched the exchange between the two women opting to stay quiet as
Aya talked.
“Well if we travel at a normal pace we should reach it in like half a day or less,”
Aya muttered after a few minutes of embarrassed silence. After the admission Aya
watched Neji and Christie’s faces as looks of astonishment, worry, and amusement
sped across. Finally the silence was broken.
“Maybe this can become an advantage,” the white-eyed man said as he rubbed
his chin in thought. “We can always follow the river from the check-point further up and
maybe we’ll even run into the man. When we do we can continue our journey from
there and there should be no problems. Aya and Christie looked at the man
contemplating what he said. Finally after a few moments had passed Aya nodded
reluctantly.
“But what about the thinning of the greenery the further we travel?” Christie
pointed out with an arched brow.
“Simple,” Aya said sighing in relief. “if we get to the edge of the forest and the
boatman isn’t there then we can wait in the cover of the trees until he shows up.
Christie pondered that before she finally nodded in agreement.
“So then O fearless leader,” Christie teased softly. “What are we going to do?”
Shrugging Aya thought more over the predicament she’d gotten her and her team into
before she sighed softly and rubbed a hand over her face.
“Well I suggest we camp here and set off at first light,” she said finally with a
shrug. “Christie-Chan you go see about dinner and I’ll find some wood for a fire.
Neji-Kun help the others with the tents. I want all of this finished within the hour.”
“Done,” Neji and Christie said together before hurrying off to their appointed task
and to inform the team of what was to be done. While that was being taken care of Aya
turned marching into the thick undergrowth of trees to search for some wood for the
evening fire. An hour later Aya made her way back to camp to find Christie setting up
the supplies that would be needed to cook the fish she’d caught and Neji helping to set
up the second tent.
“Status,” she barked out as she walked over to Christie and set the wood down
in a messy heap.
“Two fish a piece for dinner with some rice,” Christie reported as she began to
set up the firewood. Aya nodded before looking at Neji.
“Almost done with the second tent then we’ll get started on the other two,” Neji
said confirming what she saw with her own eyes. Aya looked at how far along the
second tent was before she set about her next task.
“Sakura, Sasuke let’s get the next tent up,” she said walking toward them. “I think
Naruto, Neji, and Lee have this one well in hand. Sasuke went to fetch the stuff for the
third tent and the three of them set about putting it up. When Neji and Naruto were
finished with the second tent they were told to go and gather water while Aya, Sakura,
Lee, and Sasuke put up the fourth tent. When all the preparations were finally complete
everyone collected their plates, utensils, and cups from their packs and made a circle
around the campfire to wait while Christie fixed the food. Christie worked steadily, lightly
grilling the fish and steaming the rice after she’d set a kettle in the fire to warm some
water for tea. Once the food was cooked and everyone had their portion they all tucked
in quickly and doused the fire.
“I suggest you all turn in,” Aya said after she told Naruto, Christie, and Sasuke to
take care of the dishes. “We leave at first light and though we will be walking at a slower
pace I want to be near the pick-up point by nightfall. After that we’ll go from there,” she
said, “now dismissed.” Everyone nodded an went about their business of preparing for
bed. While that was being done Aya went down to the river to inform the rest of the
team of her decision before she washed her face and made her way back to the
campsite. Digging through her pack she found a long shirt and went into the tent she
shared with Neji to change. She found her boyfriend already laying in their shared
sleeping bags and quickly changed her clothes before joining him. They fell asleep
almost immediately, knowing that tomorrow was probably going to be a long day.

Even to Aya dawn came quicker than expected but she dutifully dragged herself
out of bed and after locating her shoes she went outside.
“Time to get up,” she growled loudly in the still air. When she got no response
she got louder until heads started poking out of the tents. “Get yourselves freshened
up,” she barked, “men on the left and girls on the right. If you feel you need a bath walk
a little ways upriver in the direction given. You have half an hour and then I want you
back here. Dismissed,” she continued in a growl before turning on her heels and
heading back to her tent to retrieve her clothes and essentials. When she emerged she
saw the different groups going the ways she’d allotted and with a satisfied nod she
headed off to the right. After relieving herself she made her way down to the river.
Pinning her hair up so that it wouldn’t get wet she took a quick bath in the frigid water to
revive herself. After that she walked out of the river and set about taking care of the
essentials before quickly getting dressed. Making her way back to camp she gave the
orders needed to break camp.
“Men are in charge of breaking down and packing away the supplies and tents,”
she barked with no preamble after all her team had assembled. “Women let’s set about
getting rid of traces that we were here.” Everyone nodded and got to work, the entire
process taking just a little over an hour. Must still be tired Aya thought to herself as
everyone shouldered their packs and she led them back to the main path and along
their journey. As they traveled Christie caught the scent of a few bears in the area and
hastened her pace a little to overtake her friend. Aya glanced at Christie as she
adjusted her pace to hers before barking out her request.
“Status?”
“Three maybe four bears on our scent,” Christie said quickly knowing mornings
weren’t Aya’s favorite times of the day.
“Will they catch us?” Aya asked as she contemplated what to do. As Christie
opened her mouth to answer that, a bear rushed out of the bushes ahead of them and
left her to smirk at her friend.
“I say that’s a yes,” she said with a small grin. Aya gave her, her customary smirk
before she began barking out orders.
“Neji, Lee, Christie with me,” she said, “the rest of you guard the supplies. I don’t
have to tell you what will happen if we lose them.” Everyone broke off and Aya, Neji,
Lee, and Christie slowly advanced on the bear. It roared charging them and they moved
aside just in time to see one of two things. One the bear just missed Neji by a hair
which reminded Aya her team was still tired from yesterday and two another bear joined
the fray coming up behind Lee. Christie screamed and charged at the second bear as
Lee fell to its claws. This if course left Neji and Aya to deal with the first. As they fought
and Neji took a cut to the shoulder and fell Aya barked out new orders.
“Sakura, Naruto retrieve the wounded and pull them to the safety of the
supplies,” she said as she let her kunai bite deep into the first bears gut, “then take their
places. Her team rushed to obey her and with Naruto’s help she took down the first
bear. The two of them converged on Sakura standing back while Christie ripped into the
second creature with massive paws. Backing off to let her finish her kill Aya caught
movement just behind the supplies.
“Sasuke behind you,” she shouted moving forward just as a third bear made its
way onto the scene. Sasuke took a blow to the shoulder that spun him around and into
the side of a tree. Then Sakura was there with her shuriken pushing the bear back with
the force of the blows to keep the supplies and the injured safe. “Naruto retrieve
Sasuke, Aya said as she rushed forward attacking the giant creature with her strength.
Just as she’d sunk her teeth into the brute’s fur she heard a pained yelp and pulled
back looking behind herself to see how things were going. Naruto had moved Sasuke
with the others and now he and Sakura had begun to grapple with the fourth animal as
Christie helped them though she was only using one massive paw. Leaving them to it
Aya turned her attention back to her own problem driving her teeth into the beast again.
She felt claws rake down her body and dig deep as the bear tried to dislodge her but
she continued to hang on and drain the creature of his life-giving fluid. After ten minuets
Aya felt as the creature begin to fall. She’d already long ago stopped drinking its blood
as she’d grown too full but she made sure to keep her puncture marks open and had
even torn gashes to help the process along. Finally the animal lay still and Aya dragged
herself painfully up feeling the gashes the creature had made in her body. Wincing
lightly she turned to see how everyone else was doing only to find total chaos. The
bears were dead, true but now everyone was injured.
“Son-of-a-bitch,” she muttered softly to herself as she took in the damage.
Christie’s left arm was broken, Lee’s back was nice and bloody as was Neji’s arm and
shoulder, and Sasuke who had a gash on the side of his head from hitting the tree
hadn’t regained consciousness yet. Probably a concussion Aya surmised, knowing that
he would have to be healed before they moved him. Aya then turned to hae a look at
the rest of her team. Sakura had a gash down her left arm and across her side if the
blood was any indication, Naruto’s leg looked badly mangled, and she herself had
numerous cuts and gashes all over her body. Not to mention I’m covered in blood
because I let most of the blood just spill out she realized in disgust. “Son-of-a-bitch,”
Aya repeated again with more feeling as she limped over to her team. When everyone
that was capable of looking at her turned they frowned at the mess of her clothes but
she only shrugged.
“Hey at least he’s dead,” she said with her customary smirk in place before she
sighed. “Status?” She asked looking at Christie. Wisely Christie didn’t comment on the
rest of the team since she knew Aya wasn’t blind and instead gave her leader the
information needed.
“All the bears in the vicinity are dead,” she muttered looking around at the
carnage, “and I’ll heal within an hour. Aya nodded looking at the rest of her team before
shaking her head.
“Christie-Chan scout around and see if you can get to the river from here,” she
said and if you can bring back some water.” When Christie left to do what she needed
to do Aya turned to Naruto, the only other person with exceptional healing powers.
“How long before you’re back on your feet?” She asked arching a brow at him.
“‘Bout an hour or more,” he said as he shifted himself gingerly around to get a
good look at his leg.
“Figured that,” Aya muttered to herself before she turned to look at the other
injured again and then at Sakura.
“When Christie get’s back I’ll patch you and her up first.”
“Why?” Sakura asked confused.
“Because Christie needs the arm splinted and stitched a bit so that it can grow
right and not leave horrible scars. Unlike Naruto her stuff won’t just go back to normal
without a little help. Not to mention she can help us heal which is the same reason
you’re getting healed first too. Between three healers we can get this done faster and
with less wasted energy.” Sakura pondered the information for a moment before
nodding slowly.
“Makes sense,” she decided finally. “But what about you?”
“I’ll be right back,” Aya said before she turned and marched off through the
undergrowth. When Christie came back she looked around for Aya before shrugging
when she didn’t see her.
“Hey why did Aya-Chan leave us here?” Sakura asked as she took the water
from Christie and began cleaning the woman’s wound.
“To feed probably,” Christie said shrugging her good arm lightly. When the girl
stopped cleaning to stare at her in surprise Christie laughed softly. “Fresh blood will
help her heal faster,” she explained to those that were still awake and could
comprehend what was going on. As if as an answer to her question Aya came out of
the woods at that moment looking good as new if not disgusting because of the half
dried blood clinging to her clothes. Immediately Aya took up Sakura’s post of cleaning
Christie’s arm while Naruto cleaned her up.
“So you’re ok now?” Christie asked as she tried not to wince in pain now that Aya
was reopening the wound and resetting the bone. Aya nodded as she finished setting
the bone and held Christie’s arm tightly in place. She then added a few stitches here
and there to insure proper healing before splinting the arm tightly and releasing her.
With that done she smirked at her friend before shaking her head,
“You know you really should be quicker about certain information in the future,”
she admonished teasingly. Christie only rolled her eyes and grinned at her friend as
Aya stood to go and tend to Sakura. While she concentrated her healing power and
chakra on Sakura, Naruto and Christie cleaned up the others as best they could and
tried to make sure they didn’t lose too much blood. When she was done Aya pulled her
hands back to admire her handiwork before helping Sakura into a seated position.
Wiping a hand over her face Aya then told Sakura to get to work on the others before
she once more stalked off through the trees.
“Now where is she going?” Sakura asked as she knelt by Lee and began to heal
him.
“More blood,” Christie answered as she rolled Sasuke over and straddled his hip.
(1)
“What the hell are you doing?” Naruto demanded in irritation as Christie began
rubbing her hands and body along Sasuke’s in a blatantly sexual manner. (1-2)
“Shut up and let me concentrate,” was all Christie said before bending down to
take Sasuke’s lips with hers in a bruising kiss. (1-3) While this was going on Aya
wandered back into the clearing just in time to stop Naruto from trying to get to his feet.
Luckily Sakura was too busy healing Lee to have realized what Christie was doing Aya
thought as she shook her head laughing.
“This isn’t funny,” Naruto snapped as he tried to will his body to heal faster so
that he could get to Christie.
“Give it a rest Naruto,” Aya said still chuckling, “Christie’s healing him. And if you
keep making loud outbursts then she’s going to lose concentration and its not going to
work. Naruto looked up at her in astonishment at the news as Aya moved toward Neji
and began to heal him the same way she’d healed Sakura. Sakura of course finished
first and luckily Naruto had healed enough to stop her from interrupting the steamy lip
lock between Christie and Sasuke.
“She’s healing him,” he explained before telling her what Aya had told him. Just
as Naruto was finishing his explanation Christie released Sasuke’s lips and rolled to the
side languidly. A healthy flush covered her face and her breathing was coming in soft
gasps that made Naruto and Sakura think of other things besides healing. But sure
enough moments later Sasuke sat up with a groan. He rubbed his head gently and then
looked down in his lap to notice that he was painfully hard.
“What the hell happened?” He asked looking over at Christie curiously.
“She healed you,” Naruto explained before filling him in on Chistie’s way of
healing along with a few inputs from Lee who had moves to scoop his girlfriend into his
lap. Sasuke blushed darkly which helped to put a damper on his erection. Since Aya
was still healing Neji Christie took charge immediately once she was able to talk again.
“Sakura, Sasuke, Lee I need you to find some small animals. Bring them back
here alive and try to find a lot. I don’t want Aya to bemoan having to have had to kill
some poor defenseless creature for the rest of this trip after all,” Christie said with a
grin. Aya finished healing Neji and had caught the end of the conversation.
“Yeah my bemoaning could be a real drag ne?” Aya said jokingly before she
passed out.

team of her decision before she washed her face and made her way back to the

“Yeah my bemoaning could be a real drag ne?” Aya said jokingly before she
passed out.
