A/N: Sup Dragon_Lord, lol like the new name. Anywho sorry about how long this update took. I blame school! All that damn studying and learning and shit. I also blame this friggin chest cold. Man since I have asthma there’s nothing that can break me down faster. I’ve practically been on my back for three days straight and yes I know how that sounds! As for the chapter, well just weirdness that lodged and said it was coming out next. Well anyway on with the show!
the current she thought in amusement. She sat in the darkness unable to comprehend
time or the world outside of where she was. Friggin’ boring she decided after what felt
like a few minutes passing. Then she felt it. A warmth seeping into her at a slow, steady
pace. She felt herself being jerked from the dark world and thrust back into the here
and now. Spluttering on the blood that was being poured down her throat she tried to
force her eyes open. After several failed attempts Aya gave up, unwilling to waste time
on something that wasn’t going to happen at the moment.
Switching her concentration to her mouth she tried to explain that she couldn’t
open her eyes only to find that her voice box had decided to take a vacation.
Completely stuck out of luck all she could do was lay where she was and listen to the
voices around her.
“Is she going to be ok?” Neji asked quietly.
“I’m not sure,” a voice she recognized as Christie’s said. “She has an amazingly
high fever though, which is what has me worried.
“Then what should we do?” Neji asked a little worriedly.
“Hard to say,” Christie said again. “I’m sure Aya would want us to keep moving
though and call me crazy but we shouldn’t stay here much longer anyway.”
“And why is that Christie-Chan?” asked Lee this time.
“Well A, with all this blood around I won’t be able to tell when something’s
coming or even what it is. Not to mention the more important, B, which is if I can’t smell
or know what’s coming and something is attracted to the blood and thinks this is a free
meal we’ll probably get into another battle.”
“So then we move as quickly as possible,” Sasuke said matter-of-factly.
“Yeah that would probably be best,” Christie said with a sigh. “But we can’t move
too fast because we need quick access to the furry woodland creatures.”
“Why?” Naruto asked. Aya being able to hear the confusion in his voice wished
at that moment that she could have talked or moved. Luckily for Naruto however, she
could do neither. Still it was nice to think about bonking the blonde baka upside the
head and explaining that she’d need blood at least every hour if Christie was right about
her fever being too high.
Aya felt her body being shifted minutes later before she heard orders being
barked out.
“Pick up whatever emergency supplies we used so that we can get out of here,”
Neji said quickly. Aya listened to the sounds of washing and water being dumped. She
assumed they were doing what Neji said but she still desperately wished for her sight.
And her voice too, she needed that almost as bad. Still she had here ears and a nose
so everything wasn’t a total loss. She knew Neji was carrying her as they began moving
away from the area. Just as she was getting used to the uncomfortableness of being
packed around they stopped again and Aya felt herself being deposited on the ground.
Damn it all she wanted to move, she thought to herself as she felt her mouth
being opened and warm blood being poured down her throat. This time when the blood
was taken away she could open and close her mouth. She still couldn’t open her eyes
however so she listened for a moment.
“Is it just reflex that’s moving her mouth?” Sakura asked curiously.
“Not quite sure,” Christie said after a moment. “Sometimes Vampires move in
their sleep out of reflex but it’s hard to tell with Aya since she’s also half Archangel.
“Nice to know I’m such a conundrum,” Aya muttered softly, surprised that she
could finally speak.
“You’re awake?” Christie asked in relief.
“I’ve been awake since you first poured blood down my throat and almost choked
me,” Aya retorted. “But I couldn’t speak or open my eyes. Now I can speak but I still
can’t open my eyes,” Aya related her voice scratchy and uncomfortable.
“I’m assuming that’s because of the fever,” Christie said as Aya felt her friend
touching her forehead with the back of her hand.
“Probably,” Aya muttered. “So how high do you think the damn thing is?”
“Well in all considering that you’re burning up and sweating I’d say it’s pretty
high,” Neji commented, relief peeking through his voice.
“That’s comforting,” Aya said matter-of-factly.
“How so?” Naruto asked confused.
“Well it means my body is ridding itself of whatever is affecting it,” Aya said with
a sigh. Really the baka did ask the craziest questions sometimes. “So how close to the
pick-up point are we?”
“Bout an hour maybe more,” Sakura said as Aya listened to the rustling of the
map that she probably had in her lap.
“Good,” Aya said, “then I think we should keep moving.”
“Are you sure?” Christie asked. “I mean we are early and there are plenty of
animals around here. I think it would be best to wait where we are until we absolutely
have to move.”
“I believe I have a compromise,” Neji broke in. “What if a couple of us walk
ahead to the pick-up point and scout around. Then they could come back and report
while everyone else makes camp.” Aya thought about this for a moment, wondering
who she could send and how unprotected it might leave the rest of them.
“Fine,” she decided after a few minutes. “Sasuke and Christie scout ahead and
see what’s what. Naruto see if you can find the stream from here and bring back some
water. The rest make camp.”
“Anything else?” Sakura asked as Aya listened to everyone get to their feet.
“Yeah move off the track and find a clearing around here. Let’s get that done first
and then we’ll worry about anything else. It feels like it’s starting to get dark so I want
some basic information and camp set up before anything else.”
“How can you tell it’s getting dark?” Sasuke asked curiously.
“Probably because I’m half vampire,” Aya said as she felt herself being lifted
from the ground.
“Hey,” Christie said calling Aya’s attention back to her. “We should be back
within twenty minutes since there’s only two of us,” she said quietly. Aya could hear the
worry in her friend’s voice and her old smirk blossomed on her face.
“Good and don’t worry. My nose still works fine. If something comes this way I’ll
alert everyone.
“Well that’s one good thing,” Christie replied letting Aya hear the amusement in
her voice. She heard Christie and Sasuke walk away before she felt Neji turn and
began walking off the path. As he moved Aya tiredly let her mind close off. A little rest
would probably be good for her she decided and besides she didn’t have to be awake
to smell anything coming.
