A/N: Ok so I figured since I’m sick I could write another chapter. Thank you Serenas number1 fan, ::sniffles:: I’m really glad you like the fanfic! In all actuality when I first started the fanfic I had planned on making it different but then my twisted mind took over so. . .lol I hope you still enjoy it though.
angry. Why the hell hadn’t anybody woken her up when the scout team had gotten
back? Did the scout team get back? Before she knew it Aya found herself sitting up in
the tent she shared with Neji looking around the darkness in confusion. Well at least I
can see again Aya thought as she carefully shifted around so that she could slip outside
without waking Neji. When she emerged from the tent she walked around the silent
clearing where they had set up camp and simply enjoyed the night.
“I see you’re feeling better,” Christie said from behind her. Since Aya had heard
her walk up she only turned to look at her friend with a grin.
“Much better,” Aya said with a small shrug, “but why didn’t anyone wake me
when you got back to camp?”
“We thought it would be best if you got your rest,” Christie said with a smile. Aya
smiled brightly at her before she turned around swiftly and dove at her friend. She
pinned Christie to the ground easily with a knee in the gut, an arm putting pressure on
the windpipe, and a deadly glint in her eye.
“You know,” Aya said leaning close to her friend’s face and sniffing a few times,
“if you want to fool someone with a nose better than a human’s you’ve really got to work
on your scent changings. You smell nothing like Christie and I’d wager that everyone
isn’t really asleep are they.”
“You’re very good,” the person beneath Aya chuckled. “You’re right I’m not your
friend and your other friends are indeed not indulging in a natural sleep.”
“If you’ve killed them,” Aya threatened softly, increasing pressure to the windpipe
with her arm.
“Of course not,” the person assured her, “they are merely drugged so that they
won’t interfere.”
“And what exactly are they not supposed to interfere in and where is the real
Christie and Sasuke?”
“The real Christie and Sasuke are asleep in their tents like good little children,”
the person who had finally shed Christie’s persona said. It turned out the person was a
man, maybe five eight or nine, with auburn hair and pale blue eyes. Aya looked down at
the person with watchful eyes before repeating one of her earlier questions.
“So care to tell me what my friends aren’t supposed to be interfering in?”
“I thought that was obvious,” the man said with a grin. “So they can’t interfere in
our one on one battle.”
“And why should I battle you instead of just killing you right here and now?” Aya
asked adding a little more force to the man’s windpipe to prove her point. The male who
was still beneath Aya coughed softly trying to turn his head to get some air.
“I think you know the answer to why you’re going to want to battle this out rather
than just kill me here and now,” the man said with a slightly strained smile. Aya raised
her head and pretended to think a moment before she looked down at the man and
shook her head.
“Nope I’m afraid I’m not finding a good reason for not killing you now and asking
questions’s later,” Aya said matter-of-factly. “I think the faster I kill you the faster
everybody else will return to normal.”
“Yes and no,” the man said before he began chuckling softly. “You see if you kill
me now you won’t have the antidote to wake your friends. And a you being the smart
girl that you are I’m sure I don’t have to add that if you don’t beat me and get the
antidote in a certain amount of time. . .” Aya knew, she didn’t need the man to spell it
out for her.
“Who the hell are you working for?!” Aya demanded after she had leapt off the
man and a small distance away. The man merely smiled as he got to his feet and
brushed himself off. Then to Aya’s utter irritation he held up a hand and shook a finger
at her as if she were a child.
“Uh-uh-uh,” he said in a singsong voice. “All in good time,” he said as he fell into
a strange stance.
“I’ll just bet,” Aya snarled angrily before she rushed the man. He moved aside
easily, using Aya’s momentum against her as she passed to trip her and send her
sprawling to the dirt. Taking the fall at face value Aya got slowly to her feet and took
stock of her still recovering body. As she turned to face the man she realized she was
moving human slow. Not good Aya decided as she fell into a defensive stance. Seeing
the stance the man smirked shaking his head.
“What’s the matter,” he taunted softly, “giving up on your friend’s lives already?”
Aya snarled again, changing from defensive to offensive in a matter of seconds as she
charged the man again. This time when he went to move aside Aya was ready for him,
crouching low and catching the leg that he dangled out. She used his leg to swing the
man into an arch before slamming him down mercilessly onto the ground.
The man hit the ground hard, the initial impact accompanied by a sickening
crack. Releasing the man’s leg Aya leaped nimbly out of reach trying to ignore the way
air crawled roughly in and out of her lungs. So it seemed she could use her speed but
since she wasn’t well it was costing her in precious energy.
“My luck,” Aya muttered to herself as she watched the man struggle to his feet,
blood spilling out his mouth to dribble down his chin. Must have broken something Aya
decided as the man dropped into a defensive stance and smiled at her. She smiled
back and motioned at him. “You seem to be in a little pain,” Aya said, taunting him as
he had her earlier. “You want to call it quits and just give me the antidote?” The man
smiled evilly at her.
“Sure we can call it quits,” he said nodding as he straightened his body while
trying to hide a groan of pain. Aya eyes him suspiciously, you didn’t have to be
preternatural to know something was up after all.
“What’s the catch?” Aya asked slowly while her mind frantically screamed at her
to pick up the pace lest someone die.
“Well it’s very simple,” the man said with a laugh, “the antidote is inside me. But
the real delima is that the minute I die my lungs will crush the vial rendering it useless.”
While Aya looked at the man in horror wondering who the hell could have set up such
an elaborate plot her mind began to think of a way to save her friends. Slowly she
began circling the man sniffing at him discreetly as she moved.
“So let me get this straight,” she said slowly as she continued to move. “I kill you,
the antidote vial gets crushed under the weight of unmoving lungs, and within a few
hours all of my friends die. Did I get all that?” The man chuckled nodding.
“Yes I believe that’s the gist of it,” he said turning to spit blood out of his mouth
before looking back at Aya and caressing the middle of his chest with an evil smile. Aya
smirked at him as she circled once more and gave a few more discreet sniffs. Finally
she stopped in front of him shaking her head.
“I’m afraid I just can’t let you do that,” she said before she leapt at the man low to
the ground.
A/N: Yes I’m evil and cliffy’s are the bane of every reader in the world! Lol maybe if you review you can get the update faster! Well see ya!
