Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Love Just Hurts ❯ No Wondering Eyes ( Chapter 4 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
I glared defiantly at Tenten. I really didn’t need her help at all, I could’ve taken down that jock anytime, anywhere. My eye twitched annoyingly and I walked out of the cafeteria in anger. I went into the bathroom and stared at my reflection in the mirror. I had gunk all over my shirt, and it was my favorite one too. I slowly took my shirt off not wanting to get any of the stuff smeared on my body. What can I say; I have a thing for cleanliness.

I ran the cold water in the sink and began washing my shirt, cleaning the food off of it; rinsing it, and then slipping it back on. It felt damp and cold against my skin. “Damn jock is going to get it now,” I cursed quietly.

I took it off again and just decided to hide in the bathroom the rest of the day. I didn’t feel the need to go to my classes because it would be a waste of my time, although being in here would also be a waste of my time too. Sitting down deep in thought, I didn’t hear someone come in. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around only to come face to face with Tenten. Just great.

“Do you need to borrow a shirt? I have an extra one in my locker if you need it.” She smiled.

I blinked. Wouldn’t she know to leave me alone by now? “You can if you want. I don’t mind.”

“I’ll take that as a yes.” She left sighing to herself and mumbling something inaudibly.

What kindness she has. Tenten really has some nerve to try and be friends with me. She came back with a pink tee in her hands. I cringed at the despising color. Pink. Just my luck. I hate the bright, girly color. But I suppose I’d rather walk around in it rather than a wet, damp shirt.

“Here,” she handed it to me. “You can keep it if you want, I have others that are alike.” I’m sure she did.

“Thanks, again.”

I stood up, stared at it for a couple of seconds before feeling eyes of another gazing at me. I shifted uncomfortably. I looked at Tenten and she was staring. Her eyes looked me up and down slowly, and then stopped at my chest. How… disturbing. She had this dazed, dreamy look on her face. I swear she could have been drooling right now. How cute! I mean, what?! Not cute. Not cute at all. It’s an invasion of my space!

I glared. “Do you have a staring problem? Or is it that you find something interesting?”

“Both…?” It was more of a question than a statement. Tenten blinked a few times before regaining back to herself. “Erm… Sorry.”

I sighed. “Whatever.”

Actually now that I think about it, I didn’t really mind her staring. I slipped on the shirt and walked out of the bathroom with her trailing behind me.

I entered the cafeteria and Tenten spotted her friends who were standing up and waving their hands in the air like idiots. I inwardly laughed at their stupidity. I noticed the spot I had wanted was taken, I didn’t know anywhere else to sit; I was standing like a big idiot looking around as if I were lost.

Tenten had watched me, knowing what I was thinking. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the table she was going to sit at. She sat down patting the sit next to her and I sat down. I could feel a tingling sensation when she had touched my hand a second ago but I ignored it.

“Guys… I mean girls,” Tenten started, “this is Temari! She’s new here, so be nice.” She pointed to each girl’s name she said. “That’s Ino, Sakura, and Hinata.”

Blondie, pink-haired (how odd), and a close to purple-haired girl. Not many, but I can tell the difference between them so I know exactly who they are. They waved at me. I gave them a cold stare. I looked down twiddling with my fingers and listening to their conversations since I had nothing better to do. Eavesdropping is a bad thing, I know.

I turned my gaze to Tenten and found myself staring. She glanced at my from the corner of her eye and asked the same question I did while we were in the bathroom. “Do you have a staring problem? Or is it that you find something interesting?”

“No.” I answered coldly.

“Then I suggest you turn your gaze elsewhere or I might get the wrong idea about you,” she giggled and winked at me.

“And what about yourself?” I raised an eyebrow.

She didn’t answer and continued to talk with her other friends. That’s what I thought. I’ve never really thought about my sexual preference until she said that. I never really liked guys since, well, things started to go downfall in my life. Sometimes I’d find myself thinking weird thoughts about girls. They were pretty, yes, but most I have met were pretty bitchy. I like girls, I know that much. Am I bi or lesbian? Arg, this is confusing! I should think on this later.

“Muffin?”

I heard a voice.

“Temari, do you want the muffin?” It was Tenten’s voice.

I shook my head, ignoring the grumbling of my stomach practically saying, "feed me."

“Hey Temari,” my attention was turned to Ino, “where’d you move from?”

“Tokyo, Japan. I lived there all my life until now.” I answered.

Hinata seemed interested by now. “Big change for you huh? Moving here and all, how was it there? Do you miss your friends?”

Everyone’s eyes at the table were on me. I dislike being the center of attention. “It certainly is a change. I mean everyday I lived there I had to watch out being run over by cars, being mugged, raped, or killed. I didn’t feel safe there at all, especially around my mother.” I said too much about that. “My school was more resentful towards me then this one, though I think that will change soon. As for friends… I didn’t have any, and even if I did, they most likely wouldn’t miss me.”

They became quiet and I shifted in my seat.

“Everyone hated me. I never really had a grand life. But if anything could be a friend, the only one I’d have is this weeping willow in the small park there. It’s the only thing that would listen to me, wouldn’t really say anything back of course, but it was enough to at least let a little stress off.”

It was true. It was the only friend I had.

Sakura looked at me with sympathy, “Well you have friends now. Us.”

They all nodded. I stayed silent because I really didn’t know what to say. I didn’t want friends. They’re offering it to me. I smiled slightly at the thought but then I hid behind my mask again. Maybe…

---

By the end of the day I had tons of homework, but they weren’t due till the day after tomorrow so I could do half tonight and half tomorrow. I sort of avoided Tenten for the rest of the day and I could tell she felt a little hurt. Its not my fault, I just needed time to think without being interrupted.

I waited outside the school; Tenten had wanted to walk with me home since she lived next door to me. What a great school year this is going to be. I sighed. Boy did she take forever to get her stuff. I shoved everyone out of my way and ran to my locker so I could get out of this hellhole, and what does she do? She walks slowly conversing with Hinata. Grrr, to that damn girl.

I kicked at the rock and it rolled around, it was more interesting than staring at the door. Finally she came out of the school. She smiled and I just glared.

“You take forever.”

“Should I take that as a compliment? Sorry, sometimes I like to speak to my friends.” She glared back, emphasizing friends to try and make me feel guilty for ignoring her.

Heh. Guess she was a little angry with me not talking to her. I felt sort of bad but then again, I didn’t. We began walking, first in silence until she broke the silence with a helpless, surprised squeak.

“Eep!” Her eyes widened as a pair of arms sneaked behind her waist.

I found the shock on her face cute, especially the little noise she made. I guess cute is now in my vocabulary. It was the jock that tried picking a fight with me earlier, Naruto. I narrowed my eyes growling slightly. What the hell does he think he’s doing?!

He whispered in Tenten’s ear, “Hey baby, not saying bye to me wasn't very nice, and now you're walking with her?” He said ‘her’ as if the taste of poison were in his mouth.

I felt like beating the shit out of him right then and there. How dare he! Anger was boiling inside me.

“Sorry, I was kind of in a hurry,” I could tell she lied about that part. “And I’m walking with the girl who you call her, in which she has a name and its Temari, because she’s my friend.” Tenten answered, trying to get out of his grip.

“Need help?” I asked her.

She looked at me, her eyes pleading ‘yes.’ Naruto looked at me wondering what I was talking about only to be met with my fist in his face. His grip on her loosened and she murmured a quick ‘thank you.’ He was on the ground clutching his face in sheer pain. I knew there was going to be a fight that would start.

“Tenten…”

“Yea?” Her gaze was questioning.

“I suggest we start running right about now!” I said.

I took off into a sprint. She ran following, quite slowly I might add. We stopped after a couple of minutes and caught our breath. We hid behind the bushes and watched as Naruto passed by still searching. I breathed out a sigh of relief and looked at her.

“I thought you would be able to take him on.” Tenten said, panting.

“I can. Just not now.”
