Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Loveless Suna ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
This is my first story so please be gently and review or I'll have no idea if you like it. So this is the first chapter and like always the first one isn't the best one.
Warning: Foul language.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto and I don't make money from this. And for once I'll make it clear that Masashi Kishimoto owns Naruto, but I own this story. If you want to use something from it, ask first!
Too let you all know my beta SilverTwilight88 has corrected this chapter, so I'm sure it's better now.
An array of bright light woke me and even with my eyes closed I could tell I was lying on a bed somewhere. `Since when can the sun pass through my byline?' I questioned myself. Then a stumbling sound made me lose track of my thoughts.
“Ow! That hurts!” I heard a slightly familiar voice yell.
“Kankuro, you idiot!” A woman's voice hissed.
“What? She didn't wake up, did she? Unfortunately...” He mumbled at the end.
`Kankuro? That name's from Naruto. And that voice... I'm starting to lose it!' After calling myself nuts, I decided that the voice was somewhat similar to the character ... the character himself was not... I repeat myself... not present in this room... and at last opened my eyes.
First I everything was blurry, but eventually the two silhouettes became clear. The moment I recognized those silhouettes my eyes flew open.
`Kankuro and Temari!' I stared stunned at the siblings before me, while they were verbally fighting. They hadn't discovered yet that I was conscience.
Temari rolled her eyes at the next words her brother had just made up, but they both stopped when she saw me.
“You're awake!” She exclaimed as she knocked Kankuro unconscious. “Everything's alright?” She asked politely as I heard Kankuro's body fall on the ground. I crawled up towards the end of the bed and stared concerned at the unconscious body lying on the floor. The other woman followed my eyes.
“Don't worry, in a minute he'll be up again.” She said with an innocent smile. I decided then and there that Temari was way scarier in real life than she ever was in the anime. I also noticed that she appeared older. A small glance at Kankuro confirmed that he also looked much older.
`What is going on?' I wondered, but the words that left my lips were: “What happened?”
“Oh dear, you poor thing you don't remember?” Temari looked shocked at me and I shook my head. “I don't know the details, only that the Kazekage returned from his... walk with you in his arms.” I knew for a fact that Gaara hadn't come from a walk, but decided that I didn't need to know what he really had been doing when he found me.
`But what exactly happened that has me here now? I went to bed, just like every other day, but suddenly I wake up here. However I have the nagging feeling that I'm forgetting something..., but what?” I thought to myself.
“Hey, it doesn't matter if you don't remember.” Temari tried to put my worries to rest. “Oh, I still haven't introduced myself. I'm Temari and that idiot on the ground is my brother Kankuro.” I saw that she now expected the same from me.
“Shizuka.” I said quickly. My real name would only cause too many questions. It's so not Japanese.
“Nice to meet you, Shizuka!” Kankuro yelled after jumping back up. I let a little scream escape from my lips as Kankuro got another beating from Temari.
“How old are you?” I asked before I knew it. Temari blinked, but still decided to answer. “I'm 21 and that idiot is 19. You?”
“18.” I said quickly and a twinkle appeared in her eyes.
“That is the same age as my youngest brother, the Kazekage.” Just as quickly as the twinkle had appeared it disappeared and was replaced with a sad expression that also quickly disappeared.
`That look... Did something happen to Gaara?' I decided I urgently needed to meet the redhead.
“When could I meet G... the Kazekage... to thank him?” Temari stared suspiciously at me.
`That'll happen when you almost call Gaara by his birth name when even she only calls him Kazekage.' I secretly hit myself.
“I'll let him know you've woken up.” Temari said with her usual serious voice and left the room.
I let my eyes fall back on to the ground and looked at Kankuro. He was more muscular than at 16. His muscles were now visible under his clothes. The purple lines on his face were still present, however I had the small presumption he had applied them differently.
Carefully I slid from the bed and when my feet made contact with the ground, a cold chill went up my spine. Ignoring the cold floor and walked toward the man lying on the ground and kneeled down beside him.
“Kankuro?” I called softly, but got no answer. `I guess it'll take a little longer for him to recover.' I decided. I walked back over to the bed and picked up the pillow I had recently slept on. Carefully I raised Kankuro's head and slid the pillow underneath him.
The moment Kankuro touched the pillow, he snuggled into it and I couldn't suppress the smile on my lips. He was so cute.
“Shizuka...” I heard a frightened voice that held a warning underneath come from behind me. Stunned I turned myself to the door after recognizing that it was Temari. I stared into black surrounded blue-green eyes that had narrowed themselves in my direction.
“What! Are! You! Doing?” A terrifying voice came from his lips.
“I simply laid a pillow under Kankuro's head.” I said stunned while a little bit of fright caught in my heart. His eyes slide from my face to Kankuro's and back to rest upon me.
“Kazekage-sama, she has amnesia. She doesn't know anything of the new law.” Temari intervened. Gaara seemed to calm down and changed his expression back to being emotionless.
“Amnesia.” He said tonelessly. I nodded and he turned away from me. “Inform her, Temari.” He ordered before leaving the room. I followed him with raised eyebrows. Temari sighed and walked up to me.
“He wasn't always this way... hmm... short version... The Kazekage has grown up without love. He thought that he was stronger without it until he was defeated by Uzumaki Naruto. Then he went searching for that love, but didn't find it. Now you must know that Uchiha Sasuke, Naruto's best friend... if he was not more...betrayed his village, Konoha to become stronger. Naruto had given everything up to bring him back, but eventually that had lead to his death.” Sigh. “His death caused some heavy consequences for Ga... the Kazekage... He has given up on love and has decided that in the whole of Suna love was prohibited.” I looked at her shocked.
“Naruto... is... dead?” I asked in full disbelief. She nodded sadly. “And that new law is that love is prohibited in Suna?” She nodded again.
“And absolutely no affection can be given, like you did just now with Kankuro. If you do that then...”
“What! I gave him a pillow so his head wouldn't be lying on the ground. Has Gaara lost it?” I interrupted her. Furiously, I left the room.
“Euh... Temari, did you give me this pillow?” Kankuro asked, hopefully looking at his sister, but she only gazed shocked at the open door.
“She called him Gaara... shit, Shizuka stop!” She quickly left in pursuit.
“Temari?” Kankuro looked confused.

After asking a maid where the office of the Kazekage was, I was still a couple of meters away from the door. I stormed in the office, only to see Gaara sitting at his desk.
“How can you, in Kami's name, have given up on love, Gaara? Have you lost it?” I screamed in his face. I saw Gaara's invisible eyebrows rise for a second, but as quickly as that his emotionless face was back in place.
“You know the law now, obey it.” He ordered me.
“No!” I yelled back and saw his eyes narrow.
“No, then you accept the consequences.” He determined.
“Consequences?” I looked at him confused.
“The death penalty.” I heard Temari whisper from behind me. I turned to her with wide eyes.
“The death penalty?” Temari nodded and I looked back at Gaara.
“Have you completely lost your mind, Gaara?” I asked still with wide eyes, but naturally I got no response.
“The people will be glad with a little entertainment.” Gaara said more to himself, than the two women before him.
“What? What! You're going to assassinate me in public?!” Fright started to catch my heart again.
“Not assassinate, punish.” He corrected me.
“What?!” I stood desperate before him and saw that he considered it a closed case.
`I must do something or I'm going to be `punished'.' I looked desperately at Temari, but she refused to look back. Then my eyes fell on Gaara's gourd in the corner of the office and I got an idea.
“I challenge you.” I whispered, but Gaara had heard me. He raised his hand.
“Alright.” He said and his sand started to leave the gourd. I directly understood my mistake.
“Wait! I don't challenge you to a fight!” The sand stopped, but Gaara eyes didn't leave mine. I saw just a glimpse of amusement in them.
“I'm going to make you fall in love.” I said determined. “Or are you too scared to accept?” I attacked his pride. His eyes continued to capture my own and didn't waver until, he could determine if I was kidding or not.
“Alright, you have a year to make me... fall in love.” He said after a slight pause. I nodded happily, but he signaled that he wasn't finished yet.
“If you don't succeed, I can do with you whatever I want.” I looked at him stunned, but eventually nodded my approval.
`At least he didn't say he was still going to kill me. But is that a good or bad thing?'
-
“Sign here.” Temari gave me her kunai and I made a small cut in my finger. I planted it on the scroll before me on Gaara's desk. My finger remained on the scroll for a few seconds, leaving a bloody imprint behind. I returned the kunai to its owner and Temari gave it to her brother. Gaara cut his own finger and left a bloody imprint on the scroll, afterwards letting his finger heal with a simple healing jutsu.
“Let's go, Shizuka. I will escort you back to your room.” Temari said while she opened the door. I glanced one last time at Gaara, but he ignored us. I let out a sigh and followed Temari. Closing the door behind me, Temari was already disappearing around the corner.
“Temari?” I called surprised and followed her quickly. I reached her just as she reached my room.
“Tem...”
“What were you thinking?" She interrupted me while entering the room.
Kankuro looked back from the bed, but lay back in his pillow when he saw his sisters face. “You can't just go and accuse Ga... the Kazekage for being insane and then go challenging him!” Kankuro's face appeared from his pillow.
“You've called Gaara nuts and challenged him ánd you're still alive?” He asked with large eyes.
“She didn't challenge him to a fight, you idiot. Otherwise she wouldn't be standing here.” Temari told him before I could.
“And you know that when you talk about Gaara you need to refer to him as Kazekage.” She corrected him.
“Why?” I questioned them and Temari turned back to me.
“He feels that if someone calls him by his birth name it shows too much affection.” She made me impatiently clear.
`And just know, I've done nothing else but address him that way.' I thought ironically.
“So, what was the challenge?” Kankuro asked and I saw now that he was sitting with his legs over the edge of the bed.
“She's got a year to make him fall in love.” His sister said.
“In love? Gaara?” Kankuro looked at me in full disbelief and I saw Temari's eye twitch.
“Kazekage." She mumbled, but Kankuro ignored her.
“Alright, you look fine enough, let the seduction begin!” Kankuro yelled after taking in my appearance.
“What? No... I'll make Gaara fall in love, but not with me.” I said making it clear to him.
“Oh, you've already got a boyfriend?” Kankuro asked with suggestive eyes.
“No!” I answered
“What then, my little brother isn't good enough for you? I know he doesn't look as great as me, but he's still a catch. He's my brother after all...”
“Kankuro!” I interrupted his ranting.
“Gaara certainly is a catch.” I said with a small blush. “But...”
“I knew it!” Kankuro exclaimed. “You like him!” I got another shade of red and was glad that Temari had enough of her brothers ranting to beat him unconscious. To my relief he fell down on the bed.
“He's an idiot.” She stated while stretching her hand. “Let's go and explore Suna. Then you can see what kind of candidates we have running around here.”
“Alright.” I said and we left the room. Leaving behind, an unconscious Kankuro, lying half on the bed.
Stephke23: Well, I hope you liked it. And don't hate me for killing Naruto. I hate it myself :(, but it was necessary for the story and don't worry he's still going to be in it.
