Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Loveless Suna ❯ Chapter 53
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Honestly I've long had mixed feeling about this chapter. But after rereading it, I finally thought it was good enough to post.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or make any money from this.
I was quickly done with packing since we hadn't bought that much during our stay. At the same time Sasuke had packed the few things that were Gaara's. “I'm done…” I said leaving the bathroom going to shove the last stuff in my bag and stared stupidly at two earth ANBU's. “Sasuke!” I called my daddy who quickly showed up behind me.
“We're here to guide the demon out of the country.” One of the newly arrivals said matter-of-fact. I glared angry at the guy and was ready to contradict him but I held my mouth shut.
“We're leaving.” Sasuke said from behind me ignoring the new arrivals. His hand guided my towards the door only stopping for a couple of minutes to let me pick up my bag. While walking towards the front door I kept close to the Uchiha. Glancing backwarts I found the ANBU's following us to close for comfort and my heartbeat increased a little. I didn't like this. Once outside I could see the others ready to leave. Sakura immediately dashed towards us when our eyes met.
“I'm okay, don't worry…” She took my hands and pulled me away from the ANBU's. In the corner of my eye I could see Shizi. She was standing with her arms crossed to the left of me in front her father's tower. Sakura pulled me towards Sai and with Sasuke stopping behind us I was caught in the middle. I couldn't help myself and glared at Shizi who glared right back.
“Onee-san!” Our glaring contest got interrupted and surprised I turned my head around to see a girl. She looked a couple of years younger than me but she moved as an adult.
“Who's she?” I asked Sakura who shrugged. The girl walked towards Shizi but suddenly stopped only two steps away from her. She was looking shocked at the front door of the tower and when I followed her I saw Gaara with the Tsuchikage behind him. Also Gaara stood still and stared back at the girl. I could feel myself getting jealous. `Just how many exes does he have running around here?' My redhead seemed to feel my anger as his eyes shifted to me. He received a glare from me as he stepped closer. Shizi immediately pulled her little sister, who seemed frozen in fear, behind her. The Kazekage simply ignored her and speeded up towards me eyeing the ANBU's who still were standing pretty close behind Sasuke.
“Leave!” Was the only thing he said as his sand made clear he didn't want the two anywhere near me.
“We're moving out?” Sakura asked and got a nod from the Kazekage. She was still holding my hands and start pulling be away from the tower. I glanced backwards for a last time and let my eyes rest on Shizi and her sister. Her sister had come out of her paralyzed state and was now talking to the eldest sibling with big hand movements. Shizi tried to calm her down and her little sister looked in panic at me. When our eyes met she seemed to come to a conclusion and took a step towards me, but Shizi stopped her.
“Shizuka!” Gaara's voice was one of authority, he wanted me gone from this place as soon as possible. We started to walk away only going over into a run when we were far enough from the village. We only stopped when evening was falling and camp needed to be made. Sai and Sasuke got the first watch. They left immediately to find a good spot to watch us and our surroundings. I settled my back against a tree trunk and watch Sakura walk over to sit beside me but she suddenly changed directions. I scowled already knowing who would take her place. “Shizuka.” Gaara started once his butt touched the ground and I moved my body away from him. Running away wouldn't help my case, if I annoyed the redhead too much he would just use his sand to make me listen to him. “She…” I glared at a stone in front of me.
`Shizi!'
“…I did something to her that I don't want you to know.” He said in the end and in disbelieve I turned back towards him.
“You kissed her to keep her quiet?” I asked in disbelieve. “What could you have done that you don't want me to know? I knew you've killed millions…”
“I did something worst than killing!” He interrupted me while clenching his fists. He looked so troubled a small part of me just wanted to pull him in my arms, but I kept myself at bay.
“Did you do something to her sister?” I remembered how the girl had looked at me. She had seemed frightened for me. The redhead nodded shortly. “W-What did you do?” I asked and got a look that said enough.
“You'll want nothing more to do with me if you know.” It was definitive. He really believed I would leave him.
“You really think that? You don't trust me at all.”
“No, I trust you…”
“Yeah, you trust me enough to actually kiss another woman in front of my eyes and think I'm okay with it.” I attacked.
“I didn't know you where there…”
“Your chakra!” I reminded him.
“I wasn't thinking!” He yelled to my surprise. “I miscalculated. I thought I could shut her up before you came. You were getting closer and she was going to tell you. And… I wouldn't be able to stop her.” He whispered the end. Now I felt bad, he had been in a pinch.
“Still, I don't like it.” I mumbled stubborn. `He kissed someone else, I shouldn't be the one feeling guilty!'
“I'm sorry.” Gaara reacted while lovingly caressing my cheek with one finger. Oh God, how I wanted to give in, but that one memory brought me too much pain.
“You could have stopped her another way.” I mumbled slapping his finger away.
“How?!” He really didn't see another way.
“I don't know, you could have… knocked her unconscious…” A look told me that wouldn't work. “… and you could have told her father she walked into a wall or something?” I tried but the look turned for the worst. “Well, I don't know! The only thing I know is that you kissed her and it hurts!” I yelled angry with tears brimming in my eyes. I got up wanted to be anywhere but around him. The redhead grabbed my arm and looked a little scared at me. “I…” I sighed feeling my anger decrease, “I need a break.” I said in the end and alarms seemed to be going off in his head.
“No!” He forcefully pulled me in his arms and locked me against him with his arms.
“Gaara!” I said ignoring just how safe his arms always made me feel. I sighed again when he stubbornly kept his hold on me. “Maybe… I could go back to Konoha.” I wasn't planning on letting him win. “There are people who I want to tell the truth… about who I am.” He didn't move. “Sakura and Sai of course. Kakashi, Iruka, the Hokage… Well, all of Naruto's friends…” I summed while making myself comfortable against his chest. I wasn't going anywhere so why not make the best of it? And it was the best spot if you asked me.
“They'll be invited for Temari's wedding.” Gaara mumbled in the end and I sighed again.
“Don't be so stubborn!” I mumbled back with my eyes closed. I had enough of this conversation. I was confused as could be. Him kissing Shizi hurts, but the way he tries to bind me to him, makes me feel special. Deciding to forget it for the moment I let darkness take over me.
-
“Shizuka-chan?” Sasuke woke me. My eyes opened with restrain and I stared dumbly at my daddy. “It's your turn to guard.” That woke me up. A part of me had expected Gaara to not give me guard duty so he could watch over me, but I appreciated that he had thought about my feelings for once.
“Who am I replacing?” I asked after yawning.
“Sakura. The Kazekage is on the other side and will be replaced by Sai in a couple of hours.”
“Sai has two guards?” Sasuke had to smirk.
“He has only done half the hours Sakura and I have done.” I let out a `oh' while getting up. I got directions from my daddy and after ordering him to get some rest, I left. Sakura seemed on the break of falling asleep and was more than glad when I showed up. She gave me a couple of tips before departing. I would be on guard for the next hour and a half.
-
I straightened myself and felt my back crack a little. I shifted my leg a little before leaning backwards again. I sat up in a tree and my legs where killing me. It felt even worse than sitting ten hours on a plane. “A plane, I'll probably never see a plane again.” I mumbled and sighed. It were the small things that I missed. I let my head hang and caught red locks in the darkness. Sighing again I called out. “Gaara, I know you're there!” Like a good boy the Kazekage immediately came in the open. “Your hair is a dead give away!” I yelled downwards as he stopped in front of my tree. He was standing there like a little lost boy and my sighs kept coming. `He really doesn't want the lose me.' “Just sit down and sleep, you need it. Don't worry, I'll be watching over you!” I yelled down and saw him follow my orders without a second thought.
-
After forty-five minutes I woke Gaara up, if he really had been sleeping that is and left for the camping site without waiting for him. “Rise and shine, honeys!” I yelled to wake up the two sleepers. Sai was already making his way over to us from the other side. Quickly camp was broken up and we moved on towards Suna.
-
“I want to talk with Sai. Could you keep Sakura busy?” I asked Sasuke as I was jumping between him and the pink nin. He gave me a look but with one pout he nodded while rolling his eyes.
“Sakura!” The woman turned her head towards him. “Switch with Sai!” My eyes widened surprised.
`She isn't going to listen to that, is she?' Apparently she did as she jumped backwards and Sai joined Sasuke and me not much later. I looked questioning at my daddy but his eyes had turned forwards. In the end I just shrugged my shoulders and called Sai. I explained him my weird theory on love and overprotectiveness and he seemed to buy it as he kept stealing glances at Sakura afterwards. With trying to stay away from Gaara, which wasn't easy since the guy seemed to have glued himself to me, and seeing the start of the newly romance of Sai and Sakura we arrived in Suna before I knew it.
-
“You're back!” I could hear Temari's voice run through the whole village and found the woman running towards us. The first one she caught was her little brother, then me before ending with Sakura. Sai and Sasuke got a nod with a radiating smile. While I had been plastered against her I had felt her stomach and was now looking at it expectantly. “I know, I know, I can't hide it anymore. I'm a pregnant woman.” She pressed her stomach forward to emphasize and I couldn't help but laugh. Kankuro was also coming our way with Matsuri and Kakashi next to him. The silver-head waved happily at us seeing our surprised faces.
“Let's go to my office.” Gaara interrupted everyone and laid his hand on my back pushing me forward.
“I know the way to your office, Gaara!” I hissed and slapped his hand away. I could see Temari and could guess also the others also frowned at my reaction. The Kazekage clenched his hand before looking me in the eye.
“Lead the way then.” He had probably wanted to let it sound as an order but he failed. I was a little surprised with his reaction but nodded shortly and grabbed Temari's arm pulling her with me.
“What did he do?” She whispered.
“He kissed his ex!” I answered feeling my anger rise again.
“Shizi?” The pregnant blonde asked surprised and I nodded looking at her. She knew more about this Shizi thing. “Why would he do that after everything he did to get rid of her.” My pace slowed down a little and my eyes told her to spill it. “The council forced him in that relationship and after,” Her eyes looked apologizing, “he was done playing with her, he wanted her gone.”
“She didn't want to leave?” I asked carefully and Temari shook her head. “First she was head over heels and later she didn't want to refuse the councils of both countries. The purpose was to get the two countries to reconcile afteral.” That got me thinking. The earth country would have been a good ally for Suna.
`And because of me the relationship got even worst.' I groaned a little before turning back to Temari. “He did something to her little sister?” The blonde nodded seeming surprised I even knew that. “We ran into her when we left.”
“Oh, what was her reaction when she saw Gaara?”
“Instant paralyze.” I mumbled and she nodded. “What did he do to her?” I had to ask, making the blonde put up a debating face.
“I only know rumors, but they aren't for me to tell.” She refused to say more on this topic.
-
Once in the Kazekage's office Gaara took his seat, frowned at a plate with cookies on his desk before turning back to all of us in his office. “Where are the prisoners?”
“In the dungeon.” Kankuro answered and got a questioning look from his baby brother. “The one Eho didn't know about.” Gaara nodded approvable.
`Do we have a new dungeon or something?' I frowned a little, they clearly were talking about stuff I didn't know about. The meeting went on like that and in the middle I zoomed out of it. Until Kaeda suddenly busted through the door panting heavily.
“The seer…” She started and I wasn't the only one who gave her a weird look. “She saw the Kazekage's dead!” My eyes widened while everyone started to panic, except the five of us who had just returned. Kankuro and Temari started shouting orders and calling ANBU's before sending them off again. I got pushed against a wall with Sakura next to me. She gave me a look asking me if everyone had lost their minds. This chaos continued until Gaara put his hands on his desk, stood up and yelled. Shocked everyone stopped with what they were doing.
`That was probably the loudest I ever heard him.' I thought. It was kind of a turn on. `No, now isn't the time!'
“Since when do we have an seer.” Gaara asked calmly.
“When the five of you were in absent.” Temari started carefully. “She asked for sanctuary after rescuing an team of genins.” I frowned at her explanation. Something just didn't feel right and I wasn't the only one who felt that way.
“Bring her!” The Kazekage ordered as he sat down again. I had expected a woman of age with bodyguards but instead a young girl completely in ninja attire stepped inside.
“It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Kazekage-sama.” She greeted Gaara but ignored the rest of us.
`She has the stuck-up attitude like some child-star.' I thought unpleasantly. The redhead only acknowledged her by studying her.
“How am I to die?” He asked in the end and immediately her eyes flashed to me.
“You'll die protecting the woman you love!” My eyes widened shocked as did everyone else's.
Stephke23: The seer actually told Gaara he loved Shizuka. Wonder if he noticed. R&R
