This was written originally as a gaming post for an RPG I was in for the anime series Naruto, called A Shinobi's Tale. When the game collapsed, I began working on the story as a possible full-sized fanfic. For now, I'm putting up this first part of the story, to guage interested. There are several spoilers to the series involved in the writing as well as a major departure from the show. I will admit to two massive influences on my story, one being a story on Fanfiction.net called "Kyuubi's Gou" by UrufuKiba22, the other being "Training for the Job" by David A. Tatum on both Fanfiction.net and Mediaminer.org. Each of their stories have given me some ideas on ways to allow Uzumaki Naruto to grow and come into his own.

Be aware - this story begins about two years after the "Time Jump" which is being built up to in the anime and has already happened in the manga. At this point most of the Naruto crew is around seventeen years of age, most of them having reached Chuunin status, a few are Jouunins including Naruto, and Neji has become an ANBU, and Sasuke is still missing in Sound territory. Alot more will be told as I write the story. Please leave critiques if you like it, as well as any questions and/or ideas you may have.

Naruto stands amidst a series of trees, with Jiraiya watching over him, scratching notes onto a scroll.eyes were covered by a blood red forehead protector, the symbol of Konohagakure freshly polished upon the bandfeet slid apart for him to take a stance for combat.as Jiraiya called it was training for him to control the Kyuubi once and for all, and prove that he was not just a mindless monster, a human shell carrying the essence of a demon within him without a human soul.smiled as he watched Naruto prepare himself, he continued to make the sounds of making notes while he executed a genjutsu around Naruto's body.Naruto's world would change, and before him was a simple target... Uchiha Sasuke.Level Two Unsealed creature before him would cackle slightly before launching for Naruto.words were needed as the two engaged each other.had set this up to reenact the fight at the Valley of the End, trying to force Naruto to take that form he'd kept secret from everyone at the time of the fight, though Jiraiya had seen it for himself four years prior, and still bore the scar from it's advanced form.

The battle raged heavily as the Uchiha boy attacked the Last Uzumaki.practically painted the cliff faces as Sasuke began to take the upper hand against Naruto using his fully-realized Sharingan.Naruto began to gasp for breath, he considered his options... Kage Bunshins would be pointless at this juncture of battle, as Sasuke knew every weakness they had.other powers, short of a summon, had proven fairly minor to the boy who for all intents and purposes was the next Snake Sannin like Orochimaru.there was no way he was going to sacrifice Gamabunta or anyone else to a fight that was his and his alone.but not least, surrender was not an option.promised Sakura-chan he'd bring Sasuke back to her, and it was the Promise of a Lifetime.his friend Lee, he took his promises seriously, even used the "Nice Guy" pose that Gai and Lee did when he made it.was no turning back, but how could he move forward?would slowly hear that voice in his head once more, the one he feared most...

“Come now, boy, it's time that you realize that you are useless against this thing... Loose me within you, and I will give you all you need to destroy this thing once and for all...” Suddenly, the entire Genjutsu changed.longer were they in the battle, but inside Naruto's mind.boy looked as he had in those days, in that blue and orange jumpsuit, standing before the gigantic gates of Kyuubi's confinement.was what Jiraiya had been waiting for, and warned Naruto that he needed to get to.was where Naruto could prove his resolve, and needed to tame the Kyuubi in order to grow stronger.was then that the gates began to rattle, the seal almost looking like it was going to rip itself in half.blood red eyes of the nine-tailed fox gazed at Naruto with a hunger for blood."What are you waiting for??????” The cage would rattle again.

Now Naruto... Jiraiya would say to himself, seeing the sight within the genjutsu.Now is the time to prove yourself.

"No..." Naruto would frown at the Kyuubi, his eyes growing slightly cold.because of you that I have been driven away from my precious ones... it's because of you that my dream of becoming Hokage is becoming unattainable..."began to approach the cage, glaring.I swear now the second promise of my lifetime... I will humble you, Nine-Tailed Fox... and you will trouble me no longer!"Kyuubi began to cackle as he heard the little boy talk.

"YOU will humble ME???? I AM THE KITSUNE Kyuubi, THE NINE-TAILED DEMON FOX, AND LORD OF ALL BIJUU!!! YOU THINK YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO EVEN SCRATCH ME????"out of no where, a ninja-to appeared in his hand, it's grip that of a fox itself, the blade slightly serrated and slightly longer than the traditional ninja sword.I will!"

Jiraiya's eyes went wide as he saw the blade.Kitsuken...

Naruto slowly spun the blade in his hand, glaring at the Kyuubi.weapon felt just right in his hand as he didn't even think twice about it.what now, Kyuubi?"

"NO!!"fox would snarl seeing the weapon in Naruto's hand."That weapon was destroyed!! I was there!!"

"Well... then let's just say it's been resurrected.will be the instrument of your humbling!"Naruto would pass into the cage of the Kyuubi now.

"NARUTO!"had wanted to cry out to his student... didn't he realize just how universally stupid stepping into the demon's cage was?did that kid think he was doing???

"YOU FOOL!" The Kyuubi would laugh now as he moved to pounce on the container."I wondered when you would..."

His thoughts were cut off as suddenly he was struck in the belly.came the cry as standing before Naruto was Hinata, her hair long and down her back, gasping slightly as she would turn to him, her eyes surrounded by the telltale veins of the Byakkugan Kekki Genkai she bore

"Hinata!!"would cry, moving to her side as she stood ready to protect him.are you doing here??"

"Following... my way of the ninja..."blinked abit turning to himmy precious one."

"Hinata..."gave pause looking at her.

"And you're far from alone!" Came another voice from behind him, as well as the sound of cracking knuckles.would turn to glance behind him, and there were Sakura and five of the other members of the Rookie Nine, standing as he knew them to look these days; Ino-Shika-Cho close together preparing their usual defensive style, while the Green Beast of Konoha and the tensai Neji stood in prominent offensive fighting stances.seemed to be crouched on top of Akamaru, watching close for their chance to strike.

"You honestly didn't think we would allow you to burn the springtime of your youth in such a fashion before blooming again, did you, Naruto-san? Lee would give that classic Nice Guy smile.

"Now is the time for us all to come together." Neji would add as he activated his own Byakkugan, dropping down beside Hinata taking their family's combat stance.

"Do you know how troublesome you make things Naruto?how much more troublesome they would be if you lost here and now to that thing."would say boredly as he slid into his thinking pose, considering the enemy. "Exactly!"would join in with Shikamaru, smirking some.who would keep Forehead Girl in line if you lost?"would toss a now-empty bag of barbeque chips to the side, tightening his forehead protector.all show that thing what happens when it tries to take the last bite out of our friendship!"then smirked, popping a specially designed Soldier Pill into his mouth.

"Come Akamaru!show this thing just what a true beast is!"ARF!"Akamaru's reply, as the two both took on the form of Kiba.

"Minna..."would smile, realizing just how many of his friends were here, accepting what he was and being willing to stand at his side.Kyuubi would roar again... as Naruto would turn back, there he would be... but this time, he looked more like his old self.

"Getting scared again..."would smirk slightly looking back.cat?"grin would form over Naruto's face as he focused his chakra now, igniting in blue chakra waves as he moved.a whoosh of chakra, he'd be his full age once more, the sword feeling even more correct in his hand.a chance, Sasuke-temme..."

"Then what are we waiting for???"would adjust her bracers and glance at the Kyuubi.show this thing what the Rookie Nine of Konoha can do!"

"None of you have ANY hope of achieving victory here!!"Kyuubi snarled and snapped, his nine tails lashing out at all of them in turn.

Ino would focus her chakra and execute her Shintenshin no Jutsu, taking full possession of one of the tails and holding it at bay as if it had a mind of it's own.would turn his arms into their oversized form from Bubun Baika no Jutsu, grasping another of the tails in his hands and holding it as far from the others as possible.Shikamaru!!"took his stance and let the shadows all around the Kyuubi give him the strength to wrap a full shadow over one of the tails.Full Tail Bind, Formation Complete."

Meanwhile one of the tails would work it's way to lashing out toward Rock Lee, but the Green Beast had dropped his leg weights, allowing him to move faster than the Kyuubi had ever considered possible, even for him.of the Kibas would leap upward, before becoming human drill bits."GATSUGA!!!!"would slam down to strike the tail in two different spots.

"Hinata... "would come back to back with Hinata as two tails moved at them.are now..."our divinations..."would complete the phrase as the two began to execute their individual version of the sixty-four strike technique, Hinata's hands turning to twin beams of chakra lashing out at the tail moving at her.Rokujûyon Shô!"meanwhile went on the offence, dancing between the beams Hinata would fire forth to strike out at the nerve endings of the tail he was responsible for.Hyaku Nijûha Shô!"

"Why is it you flies insist on fighting me??me, your "friend" Naruto would not even exist!!!"Kyuubi would send a tail thrashing toward Sakura.

Sakura would smirk as she launched herself into the air, and began to strike out at the tail with hard kicks and punches using Tsunade-enhanced strength.are not Naruto!! Naruto is not the demon!!"

Llastly Sasuke would turn on his Sharingan Eye, and bring his hand down and low as the sound of a thousand chirping birds could be heard, the energy gathering for his best strike.my friend... for my rival... for my brother Naruto... I will not let you take away his dreams!!He would fling that hand with Sharingan control into the eighth tail, leaving the last for Naruto.

"ENOUGH!!!!"Kyuubi would cry as he would flare his chakra, causing everyone in Naruto's party including Naruto himself to go blind.Naruto could see again, he was in the flaming ruins of Konohagakure, the tower of the Hokage split in two.opon the rock face of the town, every Hokage's face had been slashed through with demonic claws, the chakra residue from the blows still lingering in the form of flame.eyes seemed to well up with tears before steeling themselves as he heard a laugh come from behind him.

"Welcome home..." There before him was a man in blood red armor, the chest of the armor looking strangely like a stylized Kyuubi head, one hand bearing a large mailed glove with long talon-like claws.other hand bore a wicked cat of nine tails, the lengths of the whip longer than normal with little flames and spikes upon the end of each lash.then there was his face... he was a handsome man, in a twisted sick sadistic sort of way, his crimson hair wild like a mane around his head and flowing down to the middle of his back.the worst part of it all were his eyes... there was no white to them, only blood red with the slit of a black lupine pupil.

"Like what I've done with the place?is what should have happened seventeen years ago... and what will happen once I beat you."

"Then you'll be waiting a long time for it, Nine-Tail..."would zip his Chuunin vest up over him some more and heft the Kitsuken in his hand.Yondaime beat you once... and that was before most of your chakra was absorbed into me. You'll be beaten again, by me, Uzumaki Naruto, the Sixth Hokage, future Frog Sannin, and the Hero of Konoha.""Heh... spoken just like your father..."words caught Naruto by surprise as the Kyuubi took this chance to make his move, the first strike in the biggest battle between Naruto and the Kyuubi.would be broken from his stunned stupor to backflip from the incoming lash of several of those massive tails from the whip of Kyuubi.would scar the ground, nearly letting loose flames from the slashes upon the ground, separating Naruto from the Kyuubi's sight before the flames came back down.would bring the Kitsuken up before him, two fingers against it's spine.

"Have you not yet realized, child that it is hopeless to fight against me?"would laugh as he began to spin the whip before him, as if creating an absolute defense.sneered and lunged forward this time with his large claw-armored hand.drew up the ninja-to and readied himself for the blow, bringing them into a deadlock.grit his teeth as the fang-like spikes of the cat o' nine tails would rend into his flesh, tearing away strips of it.unlike normally, his wounds did not begin to heal on contact, but began to bleed.

"If you honestly believe that a simple slash of your whip would be enough to deter me from my goal... then you've gone insane while trapped in my belly for the past seventeen years.explain yourself... what do you know of my father???"cackle would pass the Kyuubi's lips as he pushed off Naruto's blade, sliding back slightly as the flames began to engulf even the Ichiraku.tails of the whip would suddenly spin upwards and straighten to become a large broadsword, with a thick tip made of all the spikes at it's end.

"You act so surprised, child... did no one ever tell you who it was that sacrificed you to become my jailer?""Don't be so stupid!knows the Yondaime was the one who sealed you within me.did it for the good of the village!"was really getting upset now, what right did the Kyuubi have to bring up the Yondaime now.

"And would the one who sealed me choose any child in the village to seal something as savage as me in?would slowly stalk closer, knowing the moment the child knew the truth, it would be the one chance he had of defeating him.course not!Hokage could never ask anyone to give up their only child!picked an orphan, someone who didn't HAVE a family!"

"And the question is... were you an orphan before the sealing... or made an orphan because of it."eyes in the Kyuubi armor almost seemed to blink, waiting for the chance to strike.would I know??? I was a baby at the time!!"

"And yet you never have been allowed to see pictures of the bastard have you?"

"Only his stone face on a cliff... why?don't know!!!"was getting frustrated now, as he began to back away from the Kyuubi, backing toward the cliff-face where the images of the Hokages were all slashed through."Because they didn't want you to see the family resemblance."Kyuubi knew this would be his one chance, once Naruto put two and two together as even his slow brain would.sword was swung back behind him now as he watched understanding come into those blue eyes."The resemblance... to Uzumaki Arashi, the Yondaime."

"What...?"eyes would blink... he had once recalled seeing an image of the Yondaime, among Jiraiya's things when they were traveling together... the blonde haired man with eyes like his own.at Naruto's current age, if he were to add whiskers onto the face of that man, it would be like staring into a reflection.Arashi..."

It was then that the Kyuubi struck, slamming his whip into the belly of Naruto, right into the center of that seal that kept him contained.then opened the whip up inside of the boy, to rend him into small pieces as the whips lashed out. Unfortunately what would normally have been a rain of blood was nothing but splinters as a Kage Bunshin with a log placed within it was destroyed.a tree near by exploded, revealing Naruto with a golden chakra aura around him, a single tail waiving behind him.I guess I should thank you properly, Kyuubi... or should I say... Hachibi!"

The fox-demon would snarl as he pulled back his whip... and freeze as he realized one of the tails of his whip was a golden color."WHAT LIES ARE THESE????"

"You forget don't you?"spun Kitsuken as he slowly walked forwardpoint of you being sealed within me was to cause your power to ultimately be merged with my own.the true gifting could not begin until I could have a place to trace my lineage.that Uzumaki Arashi was the Yondaime, and my father, it unlocked a portion of your seal my father had hoped would be unlocked the day I became the Hero of Konoha as your container.the people shunned me instead, and gave you time to martial your own strength.that's no longer the case.everything I have been through, I've done more than enough... to earn my first Kitsune tail.time, I will achieve all nine, and bring the Uzumaki clan... the Clan of the Kitsune, back to a place of honor in Konoha.that time however..." Naruto raised the sword then brought it back behind himthat your days are numbered!"his free hand, his Rasengan began to swirl, but this time with a golden light."KITSUNE RASENGAN!!!"

He would throw the orb forward; instead of maintaining it in his palm, and the Rasengan's energy would change, taking the shape of a small fox-like creature, rushing forward to strike into the chest armor of the Kyuubi.would spin in mid air, it's muzzle acting like a drill to slowly crack then utterly shatter the armor.would smile weakly, before slowly falling to his knees.would hear the voice of Ero-sennin weakly in his ears.

"Naruto... Naruto..."eyes would slowly blink as he looked up, seeing a worried Ero-sennin above him.Itai..."rubs his head as Jiraiya had smacked him upside the head.

"WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING???? GOING INTO Kyuubi'S LAIR LIKE THAT!!!know you could have gotten yourself killed!!"

"If I hadn't... I'd not have found out what you and everyone else knew... that the Yondaime sealed the Kyuubi into his own son."began to sit up, as Jiraiya's face got serious.surprised it took you this long to figure it out..."began to remove the scroll he carried on his back.I assume that you’re knowing that and that you're alive means that the Kyuubi is still contained."

"Contained, yes... but I wish I knew how."

"I saw exactly how you did."that Jiraiya would tap the scrollscroll would dissolve into a sword in an orange-laqured saya.but isn't that the Summoning Contract with the Toads?"had always seen Jiraiya carry that scroll with him, though he never understood why.

"I gave that to Tsunade to hold in trust for you till the day of your 18th birthday.can't keep carrying it anymore... but this on the other hand; I've been keeping hidden in various genjutsus for you till the day you were deserving of it.your inability to break genjutsus, it made my life easier."handed the orange-sheathed blade to Naruto; the fox handle seeming made for Naruto's hand.is the Kitsuken, the Sword of the Uzumaki Clan.of several artifacts of your clan spread to the five nations since the dissolving of your clan.armor, bracers, helm, sword, and the actual crest of your clan... this was all that I could keep a hold of when Arashi died."pained him to say the name of his student as he conveyed the sword to Naruto.time you learn a new style of combat... kenjutsu, the Art of the Sword.I have no talent in that... you'll need to seek an ancient swordmaster during our travels... Mirumoto Tasuki."

Naruto's hands caressed the fox grip of his sword, nodding.Tasuki..."looked to Jiraiya. “You think there is anything else of my father out there for me?"

"Of that... I don't know.one can only hope.rest because you look like you've been through hell..."looked at some of the injuries Naruto had sustained in the genjutsu.

"Alright Ero-sennin..."lay down in his sleeping bag, holding the sword close to him.Some day father... the Uzumaki Clan will rise again... when I am Hokage.
