Tears In The Night

What had come over him?
Kakashi’s long fingers were still wrapped around Sakura’s dainty wrist, his eyes watching the expressions crossing her face. Sakura’s inner mind was in a frenzy blaming Kakashi for the awkward moment between the two of them.

Sakura ripped through the tension laced silence when she tugged her arm away from his.

“Stop acting like this! You have no control over who I date!” she huffed stepping back and shot an angry look at him.

‘Sakura open your eyes! He’s going to hurt you!’ Kakashi’s mind rambled but his mask covered lips stayed silent. Looking back at him one last time, she took off in a blink of an eye.

Genma smirked in the mirror as his messy brown hair was now tame and sleek, the same old senbon resting between his lips. His hazel eyes glanced at the clock, it was almost time to pick up his date.

He left early as to pick up his traditional rose for the night, yet as the flower shop grew closer to his vision, so did the sight of his old friend.

“Kakashi!” Genma smiled, greeting his long time friend.

Kakashi’s one eye looked up at him and he set a cold hearted stare at him. Genma stopped in his tracks, taking a step back and giving a friendly wave as to calm the tension.

“Stay away….” Kakashi warned. A puzzled look overcame the other man’s features.

“Hatake, what are you rambling on about?” Genma questioned, picking up a small white rose that was alone in the bunches of flowers outside of the shop.

“You heard me, I said for you to stay away from her! She’s not going to be able to handle the heartache you’re sending her way.”

“You have no idea what your saying, Hatake. You think you know me all too well. How do you know this isn’t for real? How do you know I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with her?” Genma ranted off to his best friend. There was a silence that lingered in the air after Genma’s harsh words penetrated through Kakashi’s head.

The blonde haired kunoichi poked her head out of the shop noticing the small white rose in Genma’s hand.

“It’s free… Take it to her,” Ino smiled and went back to doing her work inside. Kakashi’s visible eye landed on the rose Genma had in hand. Anger flooded him and he swatted the flower out of his old friend’s hand watching the petals break off and flutter to the ground.

Genma stood there with a blank expression. What had truly come over his friend? The hazel eyed Jounin looked up to see Kakashi gone. Genma sighed, Sakura wouldn’t be getting a rose tonight.

There were soft, hesitant knocks on her apartment door in which she flew to the door excitedly twisting the knob and opening it.

“Genma!” She smiled her sweet brightest smile but it soon fell the moment her eyes linked with his.

“Sakura….” he whispered, stepping in to her apartment and wrapping his arms around her waist, burying his nose in to her pink lochs. Sakura stood there, rooted to the floor like a Sakura Tree. She didn’t move at all, a sinking feeling formed in her stomach as her mind replayed the words Kakashi viciously spoke. Genma ran his hands over the smooth silk of the blue dress she wore that hugged her body ever so tightly. Her heels were the right size for him to hug her with out towering over her. She was beautiful to him.

“….W..What took you so long?” She asked as her eyes landed to the clock behind Genma as he hugged her.

“Kakashi did the strangest thing…” he started. Sakura pulled back looking up at him seriously.

“What did he do!” she demanded, her tone wasn’t its normal sound.

Genma raised an eyebrow. “What has gotten in to you?” he cocked his head back staring down in to her emerald eyes.

She shoved him back some demanding her question be answered. Genma looked shocked for a moment then lifted his hand up pulling the sebon from his lips and sighing.

“He told me to leave you, basically.”

Sakura was livid. There was no room for any other emotion at this moment in her mind. She shoved Genma aside whispering her apologies and disappearing out the open front door of her apartment. She was too angry to tell Genma to leave or lock the door behind her.

The overwhelming desired to choke her ex-sensei began to take over her mind as little flashing images of her strangling him were not enough to satisfy her. Why did he care so much? It was her life, hers… Not his.

She felt the tears trickling down her face but she hastily wiped them away to angry to care about smudging her make up. Sakura landed silently on the cobblestone road in front of Kakashi’s apartment complex. Looking up, she saw his lights on and a slim figure pacing back and forth. Clutching her small hands into fists, she trudged up the steps in her heels and reached his door. She didn’t bother to knock, she just marched in like she owned the joint.

Walking to and from one side of the room to the other was Kakashi with a small handful of clothes in his hands. Sakura didn’t even notice the suitcase he was packing as she ranted to him. Her shrieking words echoed off the empty walls of his small apartment.

“How could you! I told you to stay away!” she yelled tears streaming in rivers down her pale cheeks.

Kakashi didn’t flinch nor did he bother to even look up at her. He kept packing, silently listening to her rant.

“Kakashi, you’re not even listening to m--…. Why are you packing?” she questioned tilting her red tear stained face to the side.

He looked up at her with his mix-matched eyes and sighed. “Mission Sakura.”

“I can see that, but where?” she asked. “How long?”

“To Suna…how long? I don’t even know that.” and with that said, he kept packing.

“Kakashi! Stop looking away from me and tell me how long!” she snapped. He looked up at her again and zipped his suitcase closed.

“Sakura….” He said walking over to him. His footsteps were un-even and Sakura could tell he had had a sake or two. Leaning over her, he stared her directly in the eye before pressing his masked lips to hers. Widening her eyes Sakura stepped back and stared up at her ex-sensei.

“How could you?” she whispered.
