3 Her Whispers In The Wind

Sakura sat on the end of an old tree branch, her pink hair flailing in the wind. She sighed for what seemed the millionth time in that short time she had been sitting up there. This mission wasn’t what she had hoped it to be. She wanted action, a chance once more to show her shinobi skills. Not act like a mother to some snob who wanted her as an escort.
The brat was hardly sixteen and he had been skating on thin ice with her.

She took a deep breath trying to channel all her anger in to positive chakra. She had delivered the brat to the village of sound without any real danger aside from passing borders in to other villages. Life was currently boring for her. Her gloved hands gripped the bark beneath her as she heaved her body up and jumped down from the cherry tree. Her sandaled feet landed gracefully and she walked casually towards Konoha.

Upon entering the large old rusted gates she smiled and waved to others who returned her gesture. Everyone just about knew who she was, she was the little girl who trailed after Sasuke confessing her love and all. Sakura hated to admit that, that had been her years ago. Now she was different. Now, she had skills and now she had Genma.

He had been watching her from the front of the flower shop. Ino had gone in side to fetch him a fresh rose. He knew she was coming home. He had watched her sitting in the tree and all. Not that he was stalking her, Genma had just been passing by to see if Hatake

Kakashi was at the old memorial. Shock was, Kakashi wasn’t there.
The pink haired girl jogged over to him and threw her arms around his neck. He greeted her with a hug and a sweet kiss, that deepened with a tilt of his head. Sakura felt like melting in his arms as he kissed her. The two probably would have continued if it hadn’t been for Ino. Genma paid her and handed the yellow rose over to Sakura.

“Yellow?” Sakura asked raising a thin eyebrow. Genma shrugged.

“It’s supposed to mean Desire.” He muttered placing a sebon between his lips. Sakura giggled and plucked the metal toothpick from his mouth.

“Hey!” he objected but she merely ignored him and rolled her hair up in a bun while securing it with his sebon.

“You like?” she asked twirling around in a mini circle as the two walked down the street.

“Oooh, sex hair…” he teased watching her cheeks flame red.

“Genma!” She whined elbowing him slightly. She couldn’t help the small smile that touched her lips. He winked at her and threw his arm around her petite frame.

“So, where do you want to go to dinner tonight? Since you just got back and all I wanna hear about your mission.” He reasoned. Sakura blushed and just shrugged.

“I don’t really mind where you choose.” She stumbled slightly about her words a small butterfly feeling still setting in her stomach.

“Alright then, I’ll be at your place by six, dress casually and don’t wear any underwear.” He teased. She swatted him on the back of the head and giggled along with him.

The two’s laughter died down shortly and Genma swooped in for a kiss. The two stood there in the middle of the road locked in a passionate kiss. Sakura melted in to him loving his kisses. The couple broke apart unwillingly as he was first to open his mouth.

“I’ll have to see you later my cherry blossom. I’ve got to go see Tsunade.” And with that he kissed her on the cheek and vanished. Sakura was slightly sadden to see him leave but in a way slightly relieved. Sometimes she didn’t know how to act in front of Genma its not like she had never had a boyfriend but something deep down inside was just not feeling right.

Sakura brushed the feeling aside and ran her fingers along the edges of the yellow rose. It was so beautiful and delicate. She leaned in and inhaled its sweet fragrance while continuing down the road to her apartment.

“I can really go for a bath…”She muttered only to have an audience listening to her. Sakura shot her eyes to the left staring at the silver haired jounin who had just popped up next to her.

“How long have you been around?” She asked not bothering with formal introductions of any sort.

“Welcome home.” Kakashi said looking over and down at her. Sakura sighed, she was never going to be getting any alone time soon.

“Sakura, can I talk to you?” He sounded serious which was some what of a shock to her.

In the eight years of knowing her teacher, he only sounded serious in a good battle when he pulled his headband up to fight serious.

His hand had gripped the upper part of her arm tugging her off in some direction towards an empty ally way.

“Kakashi!” She squeaked as he dragged her in to the darkness. Her heart sped up wondering what he was going to do. This was her teacher, he wouldn’t hurt her. Her mind was in a frenzy trying to think of what was going to happen.

Kakashi stopped dragging her and let go of her arm and bent down to her eye level.

“Sakura, you need to break up with Genma.” He was blunt and Sakura took a step back.

“I need to what! Why?” She snapped at him. This was not the time to lecture her.

Sakura’s body ached and her head was pounding from the mission. Why was he doing this to her? Her fingers squeezed tightly around the rose in her hand, the thorns pricking her skin. Small bits of blood trickled off her hand. She didn’t seem to notice, anger and confusion was flooding her entire system.

“You just need to Sakura. You’re going to get hurt in the end! Genma isn’t one for long term relationships. You see this!” He whispered fiercely at her picking up her hand that gripped the rose and he pointed to the rose.

“He gives these out to….” His words fell silent as he watched the blood drip from her fingers.

“Sakura….” He started only to have her angry voice cut him off.

“Why does my personal life concern you?” She tried to yank her hand away but he wouldn’t allow her to.

Instead he tugged her out of the ally and towards his apartment silently. Some part of him felt guilty for ordering her to leave Genma. His best friend meant good but he didn’t want him to hurt his Sakura. Kakashi helped her to his apartment where he brushed through the unlocked door and deposited his ex-student in his small kitchen.

He vanished off leaving her in there. Her jade eyes roamed around the small kitchen, his simple décor. She had always known Kakashi to be simple. He appeared once more with a white box in his hand. Sakura sighed.

“Its nothing too serious, I’ll live.” She snapped pulling her hand away from his fingers.

“Hold still…” his voice was low and serious. Something it rarely was. Why was he so bent on making her and Genma and spilt up.

He carefully unfolded her hand and dabbed at the crimson liquid with a cotton ball that quickly turned the same color. She only winced slightly as he rubbed antibiotic cream on her cuts and placed a bandage over them.

“Thank you…” She only whispered as he stood up straight looking down on her. He placed one of his gloved hands on the top of her head and slid his fingers in to her silky tresses. Sakura’s head tilted back ever so slightly her bright eyes closing and her lips parting.

He threaded his fingers in to her lochs and wanted so desperately to do more. A wave of warmth flooded over him. This un-explained emotion that always over took him when he was around his former student. His fingers slid free from her hair and fell to the nape of her neck. Sakura blinked her eyes open staring up at her former sensei.
A deafening silence fell between the two as they stood there gazing in to each others eyes.

‘Sakura…’
