Dagger: Hopefully this will bee longer than last chapter…..
Knives: I don’t believe in you.
Dagger: I’ve half a mind to feed yo to the alligators.
Knives: That would be fratricide.
Dagger: Yep. It would also be dinner for the giant lizards. And that’s the only big word you know.
Knives: No it’s not!
Dagger: Say another then.
Knives: Ummm…..
Wandering aimlessly, Naruto started searching for shelter for the night. Thunder cracked loud and suddenly, startling him so that he skittered forward, tripped over a root, and tumbled down an embankment and into a stream. He lay there a moment, stunned, allowing the wave of agony to roll over him before struggling to his feet. He shivered as a cold wind dipped into the hollow he’d fallen into and blew across him.
Great. I’m wet, cold, lost, have three broken ribs, and it’s about to rain. My life sucks. He stepped on a piece of glass. Aaaaand now I’m bleeding. Lovely.
Limping on both sides now, he managed to messily clamber out of the stream, aware that the dirt and mud in the cut would eventually cause him some major problems with infection. Moments later, the sky opened up and dumped out all over the entire Konoha area, soaking the little, orange-gold fox almost instantly. Whining at his unfortunate circumstances, he trudged on until he found a tree that had a tangle of roots above ground, making a sort of alcove. He wriggled under and through the roots to the little hole in the middle, curling tightly. The ground was covered a little in grass and was drier there. His ribs protested his position, but it didn’t last long. An angry badger uprooted the tree the rest of the way, and Naruto squealed to escape.
He ran for two minutes before returning to a miserable walk. He considered just laying down and let himself be vulnerable to hungry animals, he was so wretched. Sighing, he sat with his ears drooping, tail limp, and head bowed while his respirations shallowed.
A strange noise only elicited a twitch of one ear from him, and he caught the scent of a wolf. A part of him panicked and urged him to flee, despite his less-than-satisfactory condition. The other part, however, thrilled at the chance of having someone end his misery.
To his surprise, a pale-skinned, raven-haired human came into view rather than the predator that the fox could clearly sense. The man was tall, taller than Gaara, with blue-black hair and pale skin. The eyes were black-obsidian and mesmerizing, and he was naked except for tight jeans cut off at the knees.

Knives: Yum.
Dagger: I’m telling Danny-boy you’re lusting after another man.
Knives: No! You can’t! I love my Danny.
Dagger: Then stop interrupting me!

Alarmed at the possibility that this man could be a part of a search party Gaara might have sent out for him, he scrambled back, only to hit the forelegs of a dark brown wolf. He yelped and cringed, submitting instantly to the two stronger creatures.
“Neji, don’t be so intimidating,” the man commanded in a cool voice. Then he reached out and picked up the small fox, hesitant, waiting to be snapped and clawed at. When nothing happened, Sasuke blinked and leaned down to sniff at the soaked, golden head. “He is like us, Neji.” He noticed the tattered leather collar with the blue, round nametag and lifted his lip. “He is a pet.”
About to toss the fox away, holding no fondness for the Halflings that allowed themselves to be used in captivity, he stopped when Neji’s cousin, a blue wolf named Hinata, changed to her human form and gently touched the fox, who whined. “He was born into captivity, Sasuke-san. It is not his fault, and he would much rather be otherwise. He is an abused pet,” she said in her soft, kind voice.
Neji changed as well. “Three broken ribs and a sliced paw,” he reported.
“The abuse is why he is so small. He was not allowed to flourish or play or change to human form as often as he should have as a kit. He should be twice his size now, but he has not grown beyond the half-kit stage.” There was sadness in her tone now.
Sasuke unconsciously began stroking the head of the trembling fox in his arms while his packmates spoke, and when he realized his actions, he stopped. Hinata glanced at Neji, who shrugged.
“Sasuke-san, let’s take him to Sakura so she can heal him. If you don’t want to be around him, we could at least heal him before abandoning him.”
Sasuke’s body tensed, and he stopped short of clutching the little fox. “Okay.” He nodded and stood, cradling the small fox more protectively than he should.

Chapter Two
It was hard to tell just how long he ran or how far he traveled, but Naruto eventually slowed, then stopped. Panting, pain racing through his entire right side where his broken ribs were located, he sat before slowly laying down. He caught his breath, but still didn’t move. He didn’t know where he was, and once he realized this, fear lanced through him. Whimpering in combined fear and pain, the little fox rose to three feet, holding the right forepaw up to reduce the strain on his ribs.Wandering aimlessly, Naruto started searching for shelter for the night.
