The third day, Sakura gave him permission to go out exploring for an hour, and he reveled in such freedom. Feeling like he was walking on sunshine, despite the gray sky, he pranced about the territory, noted all the hazards and protective points, and made mental notes on the good hiding places. Before he knew it, he was fifteen minutes past the “curfew,” and he yipped unconsciously as he raced back toward the cave/den.
He ran up the back of the stone structure, registering the sounds of a high-pitched bark and a low, deep growl beyond the sound of his clicking toenails. Standing at the top of the entrance to the cave, he saw the pregnant Sakura trying to ward off a coal-black wolf that was larger than any animal he’d ever seen, who had strangely yellow eyes with snake pupils. Fear shivered down his spine. He flinched when the black snapped at Sakura, but she danced back with amazing speed and grace for one that was pregnant. They spent five minutes dodging and snapping in a sort of feral dance, Naruto crouching, body tensed to attack if he needed.
Then the black charged, heading to attack the bulging belly, and before he could thing twice about it, Naruto pounced and landed on the attacking wolf’s neck, four paws gouging at his face, and fangs latching onto an ear, holding on for dear life. He was proud for how long he was able to hold on before he was shaken off roughly. He twisted in the air and landed seven feet away on his feet, lip curled and bloodied fangs bared, fur standing on end and tail bristling and bushing out further. Snarling, he watched with narrowed blue eyes.
Suddenly, forcing forth a skill he’d never been taught or tried, he hissed, “Leave. Her. Alone.” He sensed Sakura’s surprise but ignored and suppressed his own in the face of his enemy.
“Ahh, such a fiesty kit. Such naïve bravery is refreshing form one so young,” the rogue drawled. “I am Orochimaru. What is your name, pray tell?”
“Naruto, get away form him,” Sakura ordered, panicked and anxious.
“Naruto? Such a pretty name for such a pretty fox. I have heard your Master is quite adamant to have you back home. He’s very worried. Why have you abandoned him to live with the Whore Pack?”
Anger snapping, Naruto raced quicker that either wolf could see, slamming so hard into Orochimaru’s side hard enough to literally life him off his feet and flip through the air, and said rogue landed ten feet from his original position. Dizzy from the impact, he maintained his footing. Then he danced sideways to put himself squarely in the wolf’s line of vision. He’d promised to protect Sakura, and by God, he would do it. The entire pack had taken care of him when he needed help; he owed them with his life.
“You insignificant whelp!” the rogue wolf roared. “I’ll kill you!!” He sprang to his feet and charged.
Naruto turned tail and raced away form the den’s premises, ignoring Sakura’s pleas. She let out a call to her pack for help before the kit disappeared from sight completely.
Fear and adrenaline made him run faster than he ever had before. He was quick and agile as he dodged and conquered obstacles such as trees, felled logs, boulders, ditches, other animals, etc., with ease. He somehow managed to stay for feet ahead of the laboring wolf. He had completely memorized his new pack’s territory, the mental map still fresh in his mind, whereas the rogue had no clue where they were going; the black wolf was only focused on catching his prey. Working harder, trying to predict his obstacles now, he led the damned wolf out of his territory to neighboring lands, which he had yet to explore.
All his senses were alert now, helping ot keep him out of trouble. Unconsciously, he used some of the skills and exercises Sakura had taught him. His eyes caught sight of a felled tree propped on a boulder like a ramp with a close-by tree, strong and tall so that the lowest branch was two feet above and one foot to the left of the “ramp.”
He shot straight for it, feeling his muscles burning, heart pounding, and a blood rushing. He needed oxygen to feed his lungs. Bark flew form his scrabbling claws on the felled tree, and at the right moment, at the peak of his energy, he leapt and found purchase on the branch above. He felt a snap at his tail before he climbed three branches higher.
He rested on that branch, panting, watching the irate and exhausted rogue wolf below pace and growl in agitation. Before the fox passed out from exhaustion, he watched in despair as the wolf pushed the log down so that the gold had no escape route and trotted off in search of his way back home. Luckily for said fox, he managed not to fall out of the tree as Naruto lost consciousness.
~*~~*~*~*~~*~
Dagger: Awww, poor little Naruto. What will he do now? How will he get down out of that tree? Will he ever see his newly found pack again? Will someone rescue him? Or will a hungry, tree-climbing animal eat him before anyone can?
Knives: And will you ever shut up, stop writing, and make us supper? Or will we all mob her out of temporary, hunger-induced insanity?
Dagger: Will Danny-boy ever cut your tongue out so there will finally be peace and quiet? Or do I have to do it for him?*brings out scissors*
Danny-boy: How many times will I have to save my boyfriend’s life before he learns? REVIEW, or she won’t write anymore.

Chapter Four: The Rogue
The first two days were rather uneventful as the days were gloomy and the nights cold. Sakura began working with him on how to increase his growing speed since they had nothing better to do, and she couldn’t change to human since it would hurt the babies; apparently, she was going to have triplets, though what gender she didn’t know. She was due at anytime, and Naruto prayed the rest of the pack was there before she went into labor, but he kept the thought ot himself, mostly because he wasn’t able to communicate as of yet.The third day, Sakura gave him permission to go out exploring for an hour, and he reveled in such freedom.
