Chapter 10: Wait Patiently for the Sword to Strike

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The group of four arrived together at Kakashi's apartment, their leader had brought them here because he felt most safe divulging the details of the mission in his place of dwelling more so than any of theirs. Both Naruto and Sasuke had a gaggle of fanclub girls (and some guys) peeking in the windows at all hours of the day. Kakashi had meant to tell them that they had to harden their hearts a little and set some traps to stop the peeping toms, but knew that neither would probably take his advice. Naruto adored the attention, especially after his childhood where he never got any recognition for the other villagers (let alone members of the opposite sex). Kakashi knew that Naruto even went as far to put on a show for his fanclub every now and then, pretending to casually not notice the people hovering in the tree or hanging from his roof as Naruto parading around naked in his bedroom.

When Kakashi had been over during one of their encounters the blonde had actually wanted him to leave the blinds open while they had sex, fully knowing that there were three kunoichi sitting drooling as they perched on a precarious looking branch. Thinking about it irked Kakashi to no ends since he was one that took years to open up to people and did not like people knowing the intimate details of his life. Sasuke just could care less about the peeping people…maybe he would care more now that he had more private matters to hide.

This left the option of Sakura's or Kakashi's places, both highly secure locations, but one of them seemingly a bit dangerous to Kakashi. This wasn't because of the lack of precautions taken by Sakura, but because Kakashi could vividly remember that the entirety of her apartment smelled just like she did. Kakashi didn't need to let her have any advantages over him that he didn't give to her outright. The group waited for Kakashi to disarm his traps and unlock the door before entering in front of their former sensei. Kakashi followed them, reactivating the traps before he shut the door and added a few extra ones inside for good measure. He entered the living area of his one bedroom apartment and found Naruto's staring at the apartment with his jaw nearly dragging on the floor pointing at the carnage that speckled the walls.

“What in the hell happened here?” Naruto grilled. He was of course referring to the shuriken that were lodged in the walls and the three intact sake bottles sitting on the floor. The shattered bottle had been the only thing that Kakashi had time to clean up earlier before a messenger was sent to summon him to the Hokage. Sakura stifled a giggle as the silver haired ninja looked completely unaffected by Naruto's question and give slight shrug. Naruto reached for his kunai just in case enemy were present but stopped when Sakura laid her hand on his and shook her head while trying to hide the laughing that was racking her body.

Sasuke went up to the wall and tried to retrieve one of the embedded throwing stars, finding it irrevocable stuck. “Sakura you are lucky you aren't dead.”

With that Naruto put two and two together and shouted at the kunoichi, “What? I thought you said that you said that you weren't going to make it worse when you left last night.”

“She didn't,” Kakashi said as he pointed at the table and chairs on one side of the room motioning for them to sit as he pulled a map out of a nearby bookcase. Sakura caught Kakashi's eye as he gave a slight smile-like eye crinkle, reassuring her that she hadn't upset him. The look he gave did neglect to mention that though he wasn't angry, he was becoming a bit unnerved at her ability to weasel her way into highly emotionally intimate situations concerning him. Kakashi realized that every time she crossed the line in the sand that he had drawn, instead of recreating the previous boundary he drew a new line just a bit farther back and a lot closer to him. Soon she would trap him and he would have no where else to run. This wasn't something that Kakashi could not worry himself with at the moment though, there were more important tasks at hand.

Kiba loved the being able to fall a bit behind his lovely female leader. This way he was able to protect her back as she led them at a furious pace through the wooded area. But also because he got to watch her beautiful figure as she moved gracefully and easily through the dense brush. He wanted to take a hold of her, tell Shino to…well he would simply tell the bug man to bug off (Kiba knew the other male in the team would understand) and he would just ravish her over and over. Seeing that they were in their twenties it surprised him, even though it WAS his overly shy teammate, that he had never sensed the smell of sex masking her. Arousal yes, but never mingled with the scent of another. He liked the idea of this, because he wanted to be the first to show her the unbearably pleasant world that she had been missing out on for so many years.

Hinata noticed that Kiba's pace had slowed a bit, even to the point of leaving him straggling behind her and Shino. She worried, he seemed distracted, too distracted for a mission of this importance. This was not only a danger to him, but also to her team. If she were to honor the promise that he asked of her in their embrace earlier she knew that she had to do something to stop his wandering mind.

Hinata fell to a sudden stop, surprising Shino and catching Kiba completely off guard as he slammed into the stopped Kunoichi only a fraction of a second later. The collision sent her and him tumbling to the ground. She had expected him to be surprised, but not to the point of completely oblivious to the team's movement. She summoned the best version of anger she possibly could, imitating her friend Sakura (who was known for disciplining her team in the manner that Hinata was going to try). One swift blow to Kiba's head and a very Sakura-like “You idiot!” brought a look of complete confusion to the dog ninja. Akamaru who had been defending the group's left flank ran up to his very perplexed partner and even gave a small consoling whimper. Hinata's hands immediately flew to her lips to cover her look of regret. Anger and physical discipline were not her style and she blushed furiously at the situation. “I'm…I'm sorry, Kiba.”

“Don't be sorry, he deserved that,” Shino said with a raised and accusing eyebrow pointed at Kiba. “But please, let me.” Before Hinata knew what was happening Shino landed a punch to Kiba's face and growled at him to focus on the mission and not on less worthy quests that should be shelved until their return to Konoha. After giving Kiba a good pummel (and though Akamaru didn't like it, he too sensed that Kiba deserved every bit of punishment he received) Shino offered a hand to the shinobi sprawled on the ground. After helping him up, Hinata watched as Shino very quietly told him, “I cannot die because of your stupidity. I have a family that I have a duty to and a wife and children that I love. So help me Kiba, I will not tolerate your idiocy for one more moment.”

It was clear that the beating had done him good as Kiba was now able to easily follow his team, focusing on their mission and the mission alone. Hinata sighed, it would have been nice if Kiba would have brought this up at a non-crucial time, because now she was afraid that he would see her as disinterested…something that she was definitely not.

Sasuke's fists balled up tightly against the material of his pants as Kakashi explained the details of the mission. At the mere mention of his older brother the younger Uchiha's blood seemed to boil. Kakashi, under the orders of the Hokage, left out some of the more crucial details of their mission. These specifics were never to be spoken outloud and not to be relayed to Sasuke or Naruto until the precise moment that the information needed to be revealed. Kakashi did not tell them this, but informed them that whatever he ordered them to do must be carried out without question, no matter how odd that order may be.

Earlier in the morning during their interlude in the forest, anyone spying on Kakashi and Sakura would have seen a distraught man and a beautiful woman comforting him, leaving him with soft caresses and holding his hand to give him strength. Though it did really happen, during their brief discussion of the mission that followed his momentary emotional collapse, there was more dialogue occurring any spy would recognize. It looked as though Kakashi and Sakura were only holding hands, but what a spy would not know is the code that he relayed in small taps on the underside of her palm during their vague conversation about the upcoming mission. She responded similarly, letting him know that she understood the gravity of the full situation. Now Sakura was also familiar with most of Tsunade's secret scroll's contents, ensuring that if Kakashi were mortally wounded that there was another that could carry out their mission. It had been part of the scroll's instructions to share the contents with Sakura when he could do so securely. Kakashi was relieved that he was no longer the only person aware of the dangerous knowledge it contained.

“When do we leave Kakashi?” Naruto asked running a finger absently over his whiskered face.

“The day after tomorrow.” Kakashi's answer was followed by Sasuke rising from the table. All of them could feel the anger radiating off of last of the Uchiha clan as white knuckles balled themselves into fists so hard that his fingernails drew blood as they dug into fleshy palms.

“I want to leave now,” Sasuke growled in a dark and menacing way.

“That is not the mission Uchiha, you will follow orders,” Kakashi's firm voice was not that of a friend, but of Team 7's leader. There was no room for discussion as it became apparent that Sasuke would not win this argument.

“So help me Kakashi, if one of our friends dies because of this mission…” Kakashi cut Sasuke off with a wave of his hand before the Sasuke had a chance to finish his threat. Sasuke knew that there was more to the mission than was being revealed to him or Naruto, perhaps Sakura too (but she remained very calm so it appeared that she possessed more knowledge). Sasuke understood why some of this remained classified. He was sure that it had to do with his older brother's connection to the mission. It was probably dangerous to allow the younger Uchiha access to all of the knowledge (or Naruto who was sometimes a bit loose-lipped when it came to Sasuke). So Sasuke returned to sitting, allowing himself to steep in the anger that was overwhelming him. It was only when Naruto gave his shoulder a calming squeeze and a reassuring squinch of his hypnotizing sapphire eyes that Sasuke could relax at all. He let his mind wander to the thought of how many of his friends' funerals he would be attending on his return home after the mission to Sand, if he actually was able to return at all.

“What should we do in the time before we leave?” Naruto asked.

“Act as normally as possible. We cannot allow the enemy to realize what we preparing. That means that you cannot go around furious for the next two days, Sasuke. You cannot let anyone know that there is anything out of the ordinary occurring.” Kakashi had far too much to worry about. Sasuke's furious tantrum might blow their cover. Not only that, but Naruto still remained a constant threat to the success of the mission. He seemed to be stable enough now, but in a battle he would need to draw on Kyuubi's strength and Kakashi wasn't sure that Naruto would allow himself to do so. Naruto's unlimited power had always come from his lack of fear, from this ability to know what was right and doing it without question of how. Now Kakashi was afraid that Sakura might have conjured a more cautious Naruto, and that would be very dangerous to them all.

Welp, its official…Hinata and Kiba are sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G...first comes love, then comes smut, maybe marriage and baby mutt. :) That is the dumbest thing I have ever written in my life…really, it is. I refuse to erase it though, because it is also damn hilarious.
