Chapter 10

It had taken Iruka a bit of time to stretch and work out all the soreness in his body, but since he only had the mission desk for one shift that evening, he had pretty much nothing else of importance to do, and it would not look good to go to work with a sore ass, hissing in pain everytime he sat down or got up. He already knew everyone knew his sexual orientation, but he did not make it a habit of throwing it in thier faces, and showing up with a sore bumm would definitly be like waving a red flag. The other Chunin not to mention the Jounin would defenitly not let him live it down. They would pounce like rabid dogs, teasing and cracking profane jokes while they tried to get out of him who his newest conquest was. Iruka always winced when they said something like that. He did not have emotional relationships with his lovers, but the sexual ones he had, he never once considered them conquests, trophies or notches to add to his bedpost, and he hated when others assumed that of him.

After going threw some body relaxing Kata's and eating a late lunch, Iruka got dressed in his uniform and headed out to the mission room, to start his shift. The night shift was not bad. The morning one, the mid afternoon one and the early evening ones were pretty hectic. It usually required at least three Chuunins if not more, if there was a influx of missions and plenty of availalbe ninja to do them. The morning is when they usually handed out the most missions, it was when they gave the genin their D rank errands to run, while they had chuunins doing C rank and a few B rank ones, the Jounin usually took most of the B ranks but they were specificly for the A rank ones so sometimes Chuunins did B ranks when needed. Then when eager genins finished thier first task they came back for more, which would be why the mid afternoon was busy as well, then early evening was usually the culmination of all the mission within a days work usually came into to be filed. But the fourth shift was usually just manned by one or two Chuunin, depending on when certain Shinobi would be reporting in after longer than one day missions. Sometimes some of the higher level mission would get completed later than the time line specified due to unforseen reasons and came in late, then there were others who completed thier missions earlier than expected and reported in as soon as they came in, wanting to turn in thier reports as soon as possible so they could go home, clean up and go to sleep.

Tonight would be no diffrence really. There wasn't alot of uncompleted mission, about six or so and some were not due in for a few days, but since the room had to be open for the just in case reports, Iruka wold be manning the desk, alone. He didn't mind, it would be nice to just relax and concentrate on what he wanted to do with Naruto once he came home. He soo missed his hearts son, he would let his mind wander to what Naruto looked like now, if he was still the same loud, hyper kid he always was, or if he had mellowed some. Iruka hoped he hadn't mellowed out much, the town had been way to quiet since he'd left, it could use some of Naruto's brand of infectious noiseyness.

Iruka arrived as the last Jounin left, giving him a slight bow as he walked in to find Kotetsu filling the report that he'd just been given.

"Hey Kotetsu..how was your shift?" Iruka asked setting his satchel with consisted of some light reading from when he got bored and some ungraded papers he had not finished grading yet, down on the floor next to the chair he was to occupy.

"Long...and boring, I feel sorry for you though, as far as I know there probably wont be any early returns and all the ones who were a bit late, came in earlier just when I started my shift...the only thing you will have to do is collect any reports that have yet to be turned in yet, or if someone comes from thier mission early, which I doubt will happen, but hey, shit happens, this is a ninja village and anything is possible..later Iruka." replied Kotetsu with a wave seen from behind as he walked out of the office, no doubt wanting to get to what ever business he had after his shift ended. Iruka knew Kotetsu liked to hit the clubs and flirt with women alot. Iruka could always find him and Izumo at some bar or dance club, surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women. There was just something about a ninja that turned civilian girls on. Go figure.

Kotetsu had been right. Nothing had been happening in the mission room. Iruka found himself grading papers, reading scrolls, and doing some non important filing to kill the time till his shift was over and he could lock up for the night. He wasn't dissapointed or anything really, he had expected this and Kotetsu had warned him about it maybe being almost deserted, so Iruka had expected it, but what Iruka had not expected was the insane boredom. Hell most times grading papers and reading was enough to keep his mind occupied, but tonight for some reason he could not seem to get into his reading material and all the papers had been graded, TWICE. He was bored and he just couldn't find anything to keep his mind occupied. He was getting frustrated. He looked at the clock, which was proably like the thousandth time since his shift started. Half hour to go. Thank GOD. Iruka thought. He would be able to leave soon and grab some dinner before heading home. Maybe stop by one of the bars and have a few drinks with Kotetsu and Izumo if they were there. He wasn't particularly looking foward to going home. Everything he needed to do was done. House was clean, laundry washed, kitchen stocked with food for a month, or two weeks if Naruto decided to spend a few nights as he was want to do on several occasions. Iruka just loved when Naruto did that, it made his heart happy and made him feel not soo alone in the world.

It was about five minutes till Iruka's shift would be over and he could lock up. He sighed and started the mundane rituals he had to complete to lock up for the night. Just as he was putting assignment sheets into a locked safe, he heard a poof and smelt the not so fragrant smell of smoke that accompanied a teleportation jutsu. Iruka turned around and groaned inwardly and refrained from rolling his eyes. There sitting on the edge of his desk was non other than the infamous Copy Nin of Konoha, Hatake Kakashi. Iruka's ever loving pain in the ass. Kakashi was just sitting there are lazy and all casual like, reading that stupid orange porn book he always walked around with. He didn't even bother to look up at Iruka, as he approached his desk.

"Kakashi sensei may I help you?" came Iruka's calm civil tone, although he was thoroughly annoyed. Why the hell was this man here? It was almost closing and Iruka really didn't want to deal with the man, especially if he was here to just fuck around with him to get a rise from him. But he would keep his calm, he would be professional and he supposed as nice as he could be, he did owe Kakashi a little for letting him know about Naruto's return after all.

"Yo." came the lazy reply from Kakashi as he still neglected to look up from the page he was reading, giving Iruka a two finger salute. Iruka sighed. The man could soo wear on his nerves sometimes.

"Kakashi sensei, I am about ready to close up, is there something you needed?" Iruka asked yet again, he wanted to close up and go grab a bite to eat and a few drinks. He knew this nice drinking spot that had a really good selection of what he termed bar food. They had music and the people there were more along the shinobi type than civilian, so he was bound to run into someone he knew. Some company sounded nice tonight.

"Whats this?" Iruka asked, coming out of his slight daze, thinking of a few drinks some food and some company, not sexual company that is, he was still sore and he was not in the mood to go looking for a one night stand right now. He looked at the piece of paper that Kakashi held under Iruka's nose. It was so close to his face his eyes almost crossed trying to read, what ever it said on the parts he could see.

"Mission report Iruka sensei, what else?" Kakashi said without looking at him, his damn nose still buried in that stupid book. Iruka itched to just snatch that book out of his hand and toss it at his thick skull. Instead he refrained and grabbed the report and looked it over. Oh Iruka wanted to strangle the man.

"Kakashi sensei? you do know this report should of been turned in a week ago right?" Iruka asked, seeing that it was a report for a D rank mission Kakashi had completed last week. It had been the only thing available at the time and Kakashi had said he was bored, so he had taken the genin level mission of ridding some pesky vermin from a woman's herb garden, a garden that the Godaime usually got her medicinal herbs from. As usual with D class mission and a few other higher ranking ones, Kakashi tended to turn them in late. The only ones he seemed to turn in on time were the the more tougher B and A rank ones that he usually reported to Godaime-sama to personally.

"One of my nin dogs ate the first one and then I just sort of forgot about the second one I wrote out, then I found it under one of my Icha Icha books and thought I should probably turn it in." Kakashi stated, liesurly and with no remorse. A small tick emerged around the corner of Iruka's left eye. God how he wished he could just bean this man hard over the head just ONCE! Maybe it would jog something loose in the mans head, make him more NORMAL. And less annoying. Sighing Iruka looked it in the books, filed it and then looked at the clock, it was fifteen past closing and Kakashi was still sitting on his desk reading that damn book.

"Thank you for the report Kakashi sensei, but the mission room is not officially closed, unless there is anything else I can help you with, I need to ask you to leave so I can lock up." Iruka explained, hoping the man would hurry and leave. No such luck, as Kakashi finally closed his book and stuffed it into one of his vest pockets and stood up, looking at Iruka with his one visable eye.

"Actually I was wondering if you wanted to grab a bit to eat and a drink?" Kakashi asked him casually and ooh so emotionless. Although that damned eye did seem to crinkle with amusement. Iruka was not amused though.

"Are you asking me out on a date Kakashi sensei?" Iruka asked. The tick growing bigger and his face getting a bit darker with anger. What the hell did this man think he was doing?

"Actually I was asking you to join me for a quick bite and maybe a drink or something as comrades, fellow shinobi, but if you want to take it as a date then so be it, I can go with the flow." Kakashi replied, that damned eye, turning into a large highly amused looking U shape, the mouth under the mask unable to hide the grin upon his face. Iruka was going to hit him, really he was. He was tired of being teased by this man. When would Kakashi find someone else to pick on and tease? To annoy the shit out of? But then again Iruka didn't wish that upon anyone he knew, but then again, he was desprate for it not to be him, he figured he could make that sacrafice, after all you had to do things you didn't like, when you were Shinobi.

"Comrades and shinobi who go out for a bite to eat or drinks together are usually considered friends and we are not friends Kakashi sensei, so I do not see any valid point in why you would ask me such a thing, and NO, I would like to NOT consider it a date thank you very much." Iruka replied with gritted teeth. Kakashi's smile, or at least what was visable of one uder the mask, left and he looked at Iruka thoughtfully, seriously. That unnerved the poor Chuunin just a tad.

"When are you going to get over it and let it go Iruka?" Kakashi asked with a bit of an edge to his tone, and the fact that he had left off the sensei did not go unnoticed by Iruka. Iruka tensed.

"Get over what?"

"Blaming me for what occured between us when I nominated team 7 for the chuunin exams."

"I've already gotten over it Kakashi sensei..you were right, they were not my students anymore but yours, I had not right to question you." Iruka replied, although you go soo tell he didn't mean it really. He did blame Kakashi for what had happened to team 7 and for the way he had disregarded Iruka's feelings for his students. He had been harsh and rude and Iruka, a forgiving man most of the time, couldn't seem to forgive THIS man for the slight.

"Bullshit...You haven't gotten over it, you still blame me for saying what I said that day, but if you think about it Iruka, I should be the one angry with YOU, after all, YOU questioned my decision, you called my ability as thier sensei into question in front of the Hokage and my fellow shinobi..how would YOU have taken it if someone had questioned YOUR teaching methods and your decision to pass a student in one of YOUR classes?" Kakashi asked. It was time they cleared the air about this, Kakashi was tired of feeling the chuunins dislike for him when ever they were around each other. He was sure others felt it as well and it irked the shit out of Kakashi. After all, everything he said was true. Iruka had over stepped his bounds, and it was Kakashi who should be pissed, not him.

"Your right, I wouldn't have taken it well at all." Iruka stated, already knowing that it was all true, he had thought about that several times, and he knew he was in the wrong for his outburst, but he still blamed Kakashi for what happened to team 7 during the chuunin exams. He wasn't ready to let it go just yet. Why? He didn't know, but he WANTED to hate Kakashi. It was irrational but it was how he felt right now.

"I can tell you mean that, but you still hate me for it anyway don't you?" Kakashi sighed.

"Actually no...I was wrong about my outburst, you had every right to chastise me like you did, I was in the wrong there...but it doesn't mean I have to like it, or like you." Iruka replied honestly and Kakashi sighed yet again.

"Look Kakashi sensei I really don't feel like talking about this right now, or ever, its over, shit happened, always does. Right now all I want to do is close up and get something to drink before turning in for the night." Iruka explained, feeling all of a sudden really tired.

"Can I join you for that drink?" Kakashi asked and Iruka looked up at him, with narrowed eyes.

"Didn't we just go over the whole, only friends get drinks with each other thing?" Iruka asked with annoyance.

"So we are not friends, fine I accept that, but I don't think ONE drink with me will kill you Iruka sensei." Kakashi replied, that cheerful crinkle back on his visable eye. Iruka sighed. The man was really impossible.

"Fine, what ever, one drink, let me just close up and then we can go grab that drink if you wish." Iruka responded with a defeated sort of look, as he finished the ritual of closing the office. Once they were in the hall, both were silent as Kakashi walked beside Iruka as Iruka led the way to where he was headed for that drink. Iruka thought by the end of the night he might need more than just a few drinks. Being around Kakashi was frustrating and annoying. Why he had agreed to this he was not sure, but he was not in the frame of mind to think over it much right now. He just wanted that drink. Badly.
