chapter 3- Imagining
A young boy with sunbleached blond hair and large, blue eyes lay back against the grass, starring up at the sky. To one side of him sat a young girl on a log, twirling a kunai in her slim fingers. Her hair was just as pink as the blossom she was named after, and her contemplative eyes were seafoam green. Sighing, she looked to her right, eyes settling on the stoic profile of a serious adolescent, who wore an acidic air of hatred around him like a shield. The glowering message in his black eyes was clear- stay back or face anihilation.
The blond sighed, stretching lazily, and closed his eyes.
Moments later, a kunai whizzed over his head, landing in the dirt next to him. His eyes snapped open, and he shot forward, "What the hell was that for, bastard?" He called out, eyeing the kunai as though it were a snake ready to strike.
The black haired boy looked over at the blond calmly, smirking self-righteously, "Don't fall asleep, Naruto."
Naruto groaned, "But Kakashi-sensei is even later than usual!"
Sakura glarred daggers at Naruto, "Stop whining Naruto! He'll be here soon, I'm sure of it!"
But hours passed and the sun dipped low into the horizon, and still, no Kakashi. Naruto groaned, "He's not coming."
Sakura rolled her eyes, standing to brush the accumulated dust of a day spent sitting in the forest off her outfit. "no duh Naruto, I think we'd figured that out. Anyways, I have to get home. Today's mission was supposed to be small, and my mom was expecting me home by dinner. If I don't get back soon, she'll start worrying. You know how parents are."
Naruto's eyes darkened and he layed back down on the ground, "No...I don't."
Sasuke watched the exchange with half lidded intrest, keeping to himself as always.
Inner-Sakura slapped herself, 'good job fool! you hurt his feelings!'
The pink haired girl winced. "Oh, I'm sorry Naruto, I guess it just kinda...slipped."
Naruto scoffed, "Yeah, yeah, whatever."
Inner-Sakura sighed, 'great...just great...'
Sakura brightened, scooting closer to the crestfallen ninja. "I...I bet your parents were great! Don't you Sasuke?" Stealing a glance at Sasuke, Sakura sighed, "right...you don't care."
Naruto blinked at Sakura, "Really? You think so?" Sakura smiled, "I know so! I bet your mom was, uh, really pretty, and your dad was very handsome! Right Sa-" Sasuke glarred at Sakura, "right, sorry."
Naruto chuckled, "Yeah, I bet they were. I mean, they were MY parents after all, so they had to have been great."
Sakura sighed, "Naruto..."
Naruto's blue eyes turned serious just then, at the sound of Sakura's voice, and he muttered, "What do you think they were like?"
Sakura, after a moment of thought, answered back slowly, "I bet your mom...uh... was really fair skinned, with long, curly blonde hair, and, uh...big, blue eyes! And your dad was...uhm...dark skinned, with...spiky black hair, and green eyes! Yeah, that's it, that's what they looked like, I'm sure."
Sasuke snorted, and spoke up, "They were probably both ramen loving morons too!"
Naruto pointed an accusing finger at Sasuke, "Ramen is awesome, you ice-prick!"
Sakura bunched her hand up in a fist and whacked Naruto over the head, fuming, "Don't talk to Sasuke like that!"
Naruto, hands over his head, grimaced, "It's always Sasuke!"
Sakura sighed, "In any case, I have got to get home! I'll see you guys tomorrow, okay?"
Tsunade looked up as Shizune peaked her head into her office shyly, "Hokage-sama, there's some one here to see you." Grumbling, the older woman asked, "Who is it?"
Shizune was about to answer when she was scooted to the side, and a woman poked her head in, smiling softly, "Hello..."
Tsunade gasped, "I-it's you! You came back."
The woman smiled, "Yes...after twelve long years, I've come back."
